The Glass of Wine, The Campfire and The Awfully Big Adventure

We've all blethered on pleasantly on Seashells' lovely previous thread and, with the school holidays approaching, lots of us are about to start our summer adventures( not all of which are in tents....!) This thread is for us all to check back in and generally keep in touch. So we've packed up our Icey-Teks and our Tarps and our Death Socks, gently doused the burning embers of our planning campfire and rinsed out the wine glasses.

We're ready for our Awfully Big Adventure.

Come and talk about yours here (even if you're staying put!)

MissSal if we have a meetup and I suggest the Sambuca you have missed the boat to get me back to my tent without falling over as you will already have had the ever increasingly redder flags of dancing singing and other spirits (g&t doesn't count)! And I am sublimation woman - I go from sober (seeming anyway) to hammered with no middle ground! Grin Especially post kids when my tolerance is dreadful.

Have to admit getting hammered is a very rare event these days so don't be scared you will be meeting up with an alcoholic or anything!!!

MisSalLaneous · 14/08/2011 23:56

[grainy Grin ]

I think a hangover might kill me off at the moment - am such a cheap date, couple of glasses and I'm ready for bed. Maybe I should try and embrace the karaoke...

brambleschooks · 15/08/2011 08:00

Fantastic. We have our own portable campfire!

The things I miss when I'm bidding on hatching eggs on eBay (score!).

I made the mistake of watching 'the inbetweeners' camping episode on 4od last night with ds1. I think we've bonded over it, v amusing, but very ner the knuckle. I'll never look at a trench tool the same way again.

brambleschooks · 15/08/2011 08:01

By portable campfire, I mean one powered by sambucca.

Shuffles off to polish slubber's bins.

lovecat · 15/08/2011 08:23

Morning all! DH says I spend too much time on here but this thread still moves too fast for me to keep up...

I have bugger all alcohol tolerance these days, although drinking outside for some reason doesn't seem to get me as bladdered as doing it indoors - perhaps because I'm more relaxed, so take it slower...? But yes, Karaoke is a Very Bad Sign that too much drink has been taken. Particularly if I'm caterwauling singing Bad Touch by The Bloodhound Gang...

According to DH (I, of course, maintain that I am perfectly respectable even when drunk), I become very over-affectionate. Does anyone remember the Men Behaving Badly episode where they go to the pub and Martin Clunes comes home and starts crawling up Caroline Quentin's duvet singing 'I love you'? DH pointed at the screen and shouted 'that's you, that is!'. Apparently Blush.

JetLi · 15/08/2011 09:23

Morning

Kings - have the most fab time [grain]

Having been either up duffed and/or bf for the last 3 years has also made me a lightweight in the booze department. This is probably A Good Thing tbh as I was in the habit of caning the booze and fags when stressed.

Got to go and look at a new nursery today. Bit complicated to explain but we just found out that DD1 can't stay where she is after September 2012. Am bloody gutted as I LOVE her nursery and really wanted DD2 to go as well. The staff are brilliant & she always seems to have such a good time.

Sambuca/Tequila I try to steer well clear of top shelf drinks now Wink

Have a good day all! The washer beckons.

Kingsroadie · 15/08/2011 09:24

Yellow - I also can't smell tequila without retching - 17 year old disaster at an 18th birthday party - they had water pistols full of tequila for God's sake! [grain] Sambucca is my shot of choice...

Not sure if should admit this but I love karaoke - have been known to do it stone cold sober too Blush. Our group of friends are big fans! Not sure what my "too drunk" sign is - think it's just spiralling out of control and it suddenly hits me as I get more and more manic that I am about to pass out... Doesn't happen very often though - have honed my drinking skills to a fine art, regular practice is my method! Grin

Departure time looming (what am I doing on MN?) - off to shower and get dressed (having nearly packed the car - blind faith that it will all fit in the end?!)

notwavingjustironing · 15/08/2011 10:56

Morning all! PC Notwaving of the Karaoke Police here!

Well in the end I had to go over and ask them to stop, but by that time I was a bit pissed so I just kept repeating "loud", "very loud".

It didn't help that the DS's decided to have a screeching competition the next morning at 6am and I was very hungover tired. Packing up did not fill me with thrills.

Fortunately, DH is of the "bung everything in the car" packer, whereas I am "lets put everything in" really carefully. Due to my reduced brain activity I went with his solution. I think it might have actually cured me of my Camping OCD tendencies as I rolled a wet tent into a black bin bag and threw it in the car with gay abandon.

Have enjoyed catching up, particularly like the fact that there was limited concern that I might have been locked up for crimes against EHU. [grain]

Tequilla and blended whisky make me heave after overdoing it when younger.

Ds2 had a better night (no vomit) but has had very runny nappies today and also has a runny nose. As far as we know, he's got all of his first teeth so not sure whether it's just a bug or what. Desperately keeping everything crossed that:
a) no more vomit and nappies improve, otherwise we won't be able to go camping on Thursday.
b) ds1 doesn't start with it.

And I've bought those little G&Ts in the cans (which I only do when camping) and EVERYTHING Sad.

Funtimewincies · 15/08/2011 17:05

Oh and have a top trip Kinsroadie Grin.

Funtimewincies · 15/08/2011 17:06

Bugger, I mean Kingsroadie! Is it time for wine/bed yet?

MisSalLaneous · 15/08/2011 17:12

Fun, on the upside, should camping be cancelled, at least you can drown your sorrows in your stash of g&t! Seriously though, it's only Monday still, so hopefully it'll, uhm, pass, by then.

notwaving, which one did you get in the end? I'm picking my battles here as I've got a list of other stuff I still need to sneak up on dh so will be skipping the tent flag.

Funtimewincies · 15/08/2011 18:55

True MisSal, and a wine box Blush. I'm beginning to suspect that it's his 2nd molars which apparently come between 20 and 30 months. He won't let me near his mouth to check though Grin.

Which raises the prospect of a teething toddler in a tent. I'll be popular on site Hmm!

brambleschooks · 15/08/2011 19:07

Evening all. Do you think slubber would mind if I converted her drive and front terrace to a nettle farm? I have just made nettle and blue cheese toast on sourdough rye and it was yum! It's a fab camping meal, so maybe I'll be doing her a favour if I do. Smile

lovecat · 15/08/2011 19:30

I'm sure she'd be thrilled, brambles. It would give her something else to test her death socks/sandals/technical trousers against. Was it Yarg? (the cheese, that is) I seem to remember when we went round the farm where it was made (I had some wild and crazy holiday trips in my 20's) it involved nettles at some point in its production...

Oh, Funtime, poor little sausage... DD suffered horribly with her teeth, I was so glad when they were all through - she would get incredibly hot and come out in eczema all over. You did make me smile re the G&T though - I came back from Sainsbos yesterday with 4 little cans of premixed Bacardi & coke bought specifically for the girlie camping trip (friend doesn't like gin - I'll drink pretty much anything...), I don't buy it for any other purpose! Fingers crossed you get to go all right on Thursday.

Kings, hope you have a fab trip, if it's not too late :)

Jetli - what a bugger re. nursery - hopefully somewhere even better will be out there waiting for you and DD...

I have a hundredweight of washing to sort out before we go on Friday... waah!

5ofus · 15/08/2011 19:30

Hello! Back at home from three nights away at Lytton Lawn in New Forest with some friends. Probably going to be our last trip in the year in our tent so we made the most of it and had a fab time. We were home before 12 having packed up super quick this morning. Starting to think we are getting good at this [grain] Grin

School holidays are going very quickly and not in a good way. Can't believe we've been off three weeks already. DS1 starts school in Sept so we are running a count down calendar to the big day.

5ofus · 15/08/2011 19:34

Ooo forgot to say friend on camping was spotted by me wearing sandals and socks. This proves said friend despite being of the caravan type would be right at home here Grin

Funtimewincies · 15/08/2011 19:44

I always wondered what the green stuff on the outside of Yarg was!

Brambles - you could artfully drape the nettles with fairy lights and really make her day Grin.

Thanks for the kind thoughts about ds2 Smile. He's refusing food (not like him) and is VERY grumpy, poor boy Sad. No more exploding nappies so far though .

SeaShellsInTheMoonlight · 15/08/2011 19:58

Evening all!

Poor poorly boy Funtimes, I hope he gets better soon. It could be teeth, those molars really make them miserable. I hope you get to go on your hols :)

5ofus-I'm not sure where the summer has gone either, school comes round very quickly!

Jetli-what a shame regarding your nursery :( I'm sure another lovely place will be available somewhere.

Brambkechooks-after threatening to deck her bins in bunting and fairy lights, I should think she'll be relieved if you only turn her drive into a nettle farm...

YellowDinosaur · 15/08/2011 20:27

Well sod the poorly boy, the karaoke and the hangovers (and frankly everything else)...

YOU CAN GET PREMIXED TINS OF G&T????? WHY HAVE I NEVER DISCOVERED THIS?

That is seriously the most exciting thing tat has happened all day!

GrinGrin and clearly [grain]

notwavingjustironing · 15/08/2011 20:36

Poorly boy Funtime Sad

Hopefully he will be better soon. Would offering a pre-mixed G and T help?

Bramble, you are going to be in soooo much trouble with the elusive Slubber [grain]

Yellow - ready for a ruck then?

5 more sleeps till we are off again - where is everyone else off to before the summer hols end? I am even thinking of booking the Thurs-Sun before the boys go back to school at the beginning of Sept! I've really enjoyed my camping this year, although ask me again after a week on Anglesey .....

OP posts:
YellowDinosaur · 15/08/2011 20:36

Now for the trivial serious stuff...

Jetli sorry to hear about the nursery. That would really upset me so I feel for you. Have a

Brambles yay to the nettles! Only if artfully draped in fairy lights and bunting though Grin

notwaving glad you got the karaoke punters to shut the fuck up! I too am of the anally packing fitting small bits into nooks and crannies and dh is of the fling it in persuasion! I was suitably smug that my packing of the car wasmuch tidier than his (and would have got more stuff in!)

Kingsroadie have a fab trip!

Well I have been a veritable domestic goddess today! I have made homemade pizza for lunch (dough and all), PROPER rice pudding (not from a tin!), 2 loaves of bread (NOT IN A BREAD MAKER!!!!!) and boiled up the remains of yesterdays roast chicken to make soup! And all that acomplished with only 30 mins of tv, boys behaving like angels a trip to asda, some arty stuff with them and a friends visit! I am truely amazing!

Now I am not under any illusions that today will EVER be repeated, certainly not without tv and bribing anyway. I mean bread ffs. I don't think I've made bread since I was at school! Still I am basking in my haven of domestic bliss while I can and am fully aware that tomorrow it will be back to normal!

In fact tomorrow I am back to work Sad after 2 and a half weeks off. Feels like AGES longer though and not looking forward to it! Here's hoping I haven't forgotten it all! Grin

notwavingjustironing · 15/08/2011 20:38

Sorry forgot - Sal haven't bought either yet but ds1 wants a shark and it matches the tent Grin

OP posts:
Funtimewincies · 15/08/2011 20:40

Just for you yellow...

MisSalLaneous · 15/08/2011 20:45

You've got a SHARK TENT?? Wink Shark one sounds pretty cool!

Just so you all know, when if the weather goes horrible again and we're hit by snow in the next couple of days, I'm innocent this time - it's all Yellow's fault with her freakily perfect domestic goddessery.
