The Glass of Wine, The Campfire and The Awfully Big Adventure

We've all blethered on pleasantly on Seashells' lovely previous thread and, with the school holidays approaching, lots of us are about to start our summer adventures( not all of which are in tents....!) This thread is for us all to check back in and generally keep in touch. So we've packed up our Icey-Teks and our Tarps and our Death Socks, gently doused the burning embers of our planning campfire and rinsed out the wine glasses.

We're ready for our Awfully Big Adventure.

Come and talk about yours here (even if you're staying put!)

Oooh, off camping to Devon with DD1 6yrs and DD2 4mo, for a week in 10 days time and forecast is for 6 days of rain!!!Shock

Also feeling a bit sad as DD1 will have just come back from 2 expensive weeks in the sun with her father. Camping in the rain to follow....mmm....:(

Funtimewincies · 14/08/2011 17:21

Grin at karaoke. I've disturbing memories of being in a bar in Singapore when serious business types started murdering the local pop songs and being very serious about it!

Ds2 was sick in his cot and then all over the bedroom floor last night Sad. He seems alright today but dh had to suffer a marathon of recorded Baby Jake at 4am while I cleared up the carnage. I still reckon that he got the better end of the deal, despite what he says Hmm.

MisSalLaneous · 14/08/2011 18:32

Yellow, you made me post in AIBU. If they shout at me, I'm coming over to yours for fine!

On Benidorm... Man, I'd love to be somewhere 30+ degrees now. Only on holiday though, it's hard living and working in those if not used to it. On holiday, however, bring it and factor 505 suncream on.

MisSalLaneous · 14/08/2011 18:33

Uhm, for wine, not fine. Fine wine is good, however.

SeaShellsInTheMoonlight · 14/08/2011 20:21

Evening all!

Jetli-no idea of name, but it's near rock/padstow and my friend's photos look fab!

Funtimes-sounds like bad times Grin the incredible vomiting baby, yuck.

WeesaD I hope the sun shines for you :)

Country file is in Dorset tonight-I love my home (20mths in ans I hope I'm here for life!)

Kingsroadie · 14/08/2011 21:19

Evening! Hope everyone is well tonight! Funtimes - misery - I hate it when they do that...

I have loaded the roof box and will finish the rest of the stuff tomorrow. Having slight packing panic as we have A LOT of stuff (def wouldn't manage without roofbox and think it will be a squeeze as it is - this in a Landrover Shock ) I have even had a look to try and lose some of it but can't really see what not to take... Hmm

Keep having loads of things going round my head in spite of my millions of anal lists - some things can't be done until the morning you leave (packing dog stuff and coolboxes etc) and I invariably sleep badly thinking of them all and trying not to forget! Fingers crossed for no more holes in tent when we pitch tomorrow, successful mending of existing small hole and good weather - forecast isn't looking as great as it was...)

Hope anyone else going has a fab time!

SeaShellsInTheMoonlight · 14/08/2011 21:25

Have a fantastic trip! Please post some pictures and a review when you get beck, I'd live to know how your emporer gets on, they look fab :)

brambleschooks · 14/08/2011 21:39

Safe journey all. Ew at sick and more ew at baby Jake!

YellowDinosaur · 14/08/2011 21:41

MissSal Smile thanks and you are welcome to wine! Quite a tame AIBU thread - everyone seems to think I should say no! I guess it helps that when I started I didn't actually know what to think so its not one of those threads where the OP says AIBU but clearly thinks they are not and just wants justification!

Kingsroadie good luck! Hope you managed to mend your tent satisfactorily and that you have a fantastic time.

Funtime hope your ds is better now. Funny how they can do that isn't it? Vomit profusely everywhere then be totally fine. Personally I'd prefer to clean up vomit than watch repeated Babyjakes - it is rubbish!

Jetli dh already has the Vuelta on sky+

Not done much here today. Watched Free Willy 2 with the boys this am and soft play this pm. I am totally and utterly depressed by the lack of sun. If I had enough holiday time and money (no to both!) I'd be off somewhere hot like a shot. Currently watching a somewhat bizarre grand designs in Oz - they are building a massive house around a tree that seems to have absolutely no doors or windows??!! Hope no dingos do a runner with their kids whose bedrooms are on the ground floor while they sleep on in bliss on the firstfloor Hmm

Must be time for a new thread soon? Taking ages for this one to open on my very slow computer

lostinwales · 14/08/2011 21:59

Coming to you from my friends field, sitting round the fire listening to the sea, who cares if there's work in the morning. [grain]

northender · 14/08/2011 22:00

Have a good time everyone who's off this week. Our quiet site was Wheal Rodney just outside Marazion in Cornwall. We loved it. Noisy pigeons and seagulls in the mornings thoughGrin

MisSalLaneous · 14/08/2011 22:00

Kingsroadie, have a good trip. Can't wait to hear all about your tent on your return. Btw, a tip someone one gave me (obvious, I guess, I just never did it before) is to write the things you don't want to forget down on a list. Leave a pen and paper next to your bed. If you wake up at night remembering something, switch on nightlight, write it down, go back to sleep. It made all the difference to me as I used to spend all night half asleep thinking I have to remember not to forget! Hmm

Funtimes, hope you've got a better night.

Yellow, how odd re treehouse! Some people really just don't think of the practicalities, do they? Sounds fascinating though.

Ooh, have to tell you this: Guess what I found out? I have found the most beautiful campsite on an island, and camping there is free. It is, however, also in Hong Kong! Well, 1 hr ferry trip from HK on on Lantau. With the price of camping in the UK increasing the way there are now, I'll see you all there for our MN camp next year! Wink

MisSalLaneous · 14/08/2011 22:01

Lost, you've got the perfect arrangement there, I'm very jealous!

MisSalLaneous · 14/08/2011 22:03

PS: I'm not actually seriously considering flying my tent all the way to HK, just thought it's pretty cool. Not even I'm that weird!

Kingsroadie · 14/08/2011 22:14

MisSal - just quickly - thank you! Yes am so anal that I already have about 5 lists on iphone notepad and frequently wake in the night to add more... Blush.

MisSalLaneous · 14/08/2011 22:31

Oh no Kingsroadie! Hmm, maybe we should starting removing some of your lists instead! [grain]

YellowDinosaur · 14/08/2011 22:55

Liking that my pissed typo [grain] is becoming an in joke! Grin

Lantau would be fab. Not entirely sure how I can fit all our kit that will only just fit into the car into our flight allowance but never mind about silly practicalities! Alternatively its free to camp on beaches in Mexico (or was when I was there about 15 years ago anyway!)

Lost I'm well jealous of you in your friends field looking at the see...

Me, I'm currently absolutely pissing myself watching the Inbetweeners top 10 moments. Hilarious GrinGrinGrin. Can't WAIT for the film!

MisSalLaneous · 14/08/2011 22:59

Mexico good! Ditch the gin and switch to tequila. Oh yes.

YellowDinosaur · 14/08/2011 23:10

I can't even smell tequila without wanting to vomit! Had some somewhat unpleasant experiences of tequila in my late teens and early 20s and never again! Its only recently that I have been able to drink Margeritas without wanting so sick them up again!

MisSalLaneous · 14/08/2011 23:14

Urgh. I've got the same for Sambuca. Just the thought is making me feel ill.

YellowDinosaur · 14/08/2011 23:26

Sambuca shots it in my mouth is a big red flag to dh that he needs to get me home an hour ago NOW before I start a fire or maim myself [grain]

MisSalLaneous · 14/08/2011 23:28

hahaha!

YellowDinosaur · 14/08/2011 23:28

LIT in my mouth even...

MisSalLaneous · 14/08/2011 23:29

Shouldn't be allowed out alone really Wink

YellowDinosaur · 14/08/2011 23:30

Never had any SERIOUS injury Grin/[grain]!!!
