The Glass of Wine, The Campfire and The Awfully Big Adventure

We've all blethered on pleasantly on Seashells' lovely previous thread and, with the school holidays approaching, lots of us are about to start our summer adventures( not all of which are in tents....!) This thread is for us all to check back in and generally keep in touch. So we've packed up our Icey-Teks and our Tarps and our Death Socks, gently doused the burning embers of our planning campfire and rinsed out the wine glasses.

We're ready for our Awfully Big Adventure.

Come and talk about yours here (even if you're staying put!)

Think slubber was going north sea... But I've been away for a while and ended up skim reading a bit or I would never have caught up so mightbe wrong...

pmsl at going to the toilet and having a shower at the same time having more appeal than an xbox!!!! I think my boys would be pretty impressed with that too! Poo and wee and farting, in fact anything bodily function related, cause much hilarity in our house. Just remembering ds2 (nearly 4) describing how much shampoo he wanted (he didn't like it very much so wanted a small amount). He hummed and haaed a bitas he tried to think of something suitably comparable before concluding that he wanted 'same amount as a bogey' Grin

MisSalLaneous · 07/08/2011 23:03

I really shouldn't take 2 hours before posting!

Losty, I was about to beg and lie about changing my ways and everything to keep you here, was terribly relieved to hear you're just fed up with The Rest. The Rest if stupid and needs to grow up. In the meantime, we'll have our fun - and wine - here.

lovecat · 07/08/2011 23:07

DD is much the same, Yellow - anything bottom related is hysterical... she and her cousin spent some time in the tent at Latitude during the pissing rainstorm drawing pictures that DH then was ordered to write a story for - actually, between him and the 6 yr olds there's not a lot to choose from when it comes to toilet humour - and they then kept begging me, DSIS and DBIL to read it to them, then falling over giggling clutching their sides.

It included an alien queen, a stolen nappy and an evil potion... love the bogey-as-portion-indicator :o

MisSal, can you read my palm and tell me if I can be fated to be something other than a body-piercer, please? I can't face the thought of being asked to do Prince Alberts or flesh tunnels... even the words flesh tunnel makes my skin crawl!

Nearly 24 hours since I left our friend's 30th birthday do, my head/tum has just about stopped pounding....

MisSalLaneous · 08/08/2011 10:16

Lovecat, I thought you were just messing around earlier, but it seems being a Body piercer is an actual career. Shock I'm still too scared to search for Prince Alberts and flesh tunnels - sounds horrible. Hmm, so let's see. You can scale down your piercing skills and go into acupuncture... You and I can pack in this finance thing and go all alternative. Must be better than macros, surely!

Weather is so weird lately, isn't it? Sunshine one second, pouring the next. Really odd and makes planning difficult. I was very jealous of ds's waterproof suit the other day. If it wasn't for the fact that it would traumatize small children for life, I'd want one too. If anyone is looking for children's waterproofs, I can highly recommend the Elka suits. He's had his for ages, and as it's very adjustable, it makes it good value, despite the higher price.

It is SO going to rain all over us on Thursday isn't it?

Have looked at the medium range weather forecast and its precipitation all the way - I even watched Countryfile last night for a bit of inside info. But no, despite my positive vibes and the realisation that this really will be the last time DH comes camping with us, its going to ruin my trip isn't it?

I'm with Losty and co though. I'm not never leaving this thread, oh no.

Disclaimer (But everywhere else is a bit mad ranty).

I'm going to send out polite notices to the nutcases others, saying, in non-confrontational font:

MN IS BROKEN. Control Alt(er) or Delete yourself to restore order.

I would need you lot to shelter me from the reaction. Perhaps Bramble can take me to safer grounds in her canoe.

notwavingjustironing · 08/08/2011 11:23

Nah Sal, just ignore the madness. Remember what happened with Lovecat's packing thread?

It went Discussion of the Day and Viral and there were loads of nuttersrandom one-off visitors coming in and alerting everyone to our presence.

You don't want it. Honest.

For all you know they are all busy reporting us for the madness on this thread. Have you thought of that, huh?

Sorry to hear about those of you camping in crap conditions (sounds like the title of a book). I'm being very selfish and hoping that if it's pants now it'll be drier in the middle of the month as we're off to Shropshire. Sorry Blush.

Apart from having a little foot stamp about general incompetence of the competitions bit, I too am abandonning the rest of MN and hunkering down with you lot. I don't take up much space [short-arse emoticon] and brew my own beer.

MisSalLaneous · 08/08/2011 11:53

notwaving, you're right. Good heavens, I'd hate another influx.

In the words of Mad Murdock from the A-Team: "White paper, white paper, white paper"

notwavingjustironing · 08/08/2011 12:08

Sal, remember the Baldrick analogy ?.... Wink

MisSalLaneous · 08/08/2011 12:29

Blush I don't, and now I have to know. Tell me and help me out of my agony, please!

notwavingjustironing · 08/08/2011 12:46

It's from the last thread, when Lovecat's thread was up for scrutiny.....

"Adding one of Camping's threads as a discussion of the day seems a bit like sending Baldrick on a reconnaissance mission. It draws unnecessary attention to our presence, yet serves no discernible purpose".

MisSalLaneous · 08/08/2011 12:48

Hahaha. Love it, I somehow missed that!

Just got rained on during what looked like a blue-skies park visit. Sad Everything is totally unpredictable at the moment. I'm trying to find somewhere nice to camp for a few days next week, but if it's unremittingly miserable, I don't want it to put DH off going regularly (or me, for that matter!).

YellowDinosaur · 08/08/2011 13:46

'I'll be have a pint funtime. In McDonalds soft play withboys so need it! I taking ages to post on dh phones, though so back later

lostinwales · 08/08/2011 14:10

No beer for me thanks . How come I made it all round France and a bit of Italy without a hangover and one night home with my friend and I'm hanging today?

I'd forgotten lovecat's Baldrick analogy, this thread is pure class Grin

Right I'm tacking the boys to the park, I'll take on of those adult size all in one waterproofs too please MissSal.

Funtimewincies · 08/08/2011 16:56

Love the Baldrick analogy Grin!

It's the weather in this country causing the headaches lost . Hairy dog? Grin

brambleschooks · 08/08/2011 17:54

Packing some nice ham and a bottle or two of crabbies in the dry bag to take sal on a scenic canoe tour.

Surfing today. Mental. Five foot waves but very messy and coming in foamy and stacked on one another so slamming in terms of power, but no clean face on the wave to ride up on. Good tho.

Lifeguard buns report: toight.

MisSalLaneous · 08/08/2011 18:06

Ah now see bramble, if I knew such a lovely sounding trip was on the menu I would have annoyed people again ages ago.

Lost, just about to press the order button. You're getting a bright green all-in-one. Wearing of sunflowers in the hair optional.

JetLi · 08/08/2011 18:34

Did someone mention hoe brewed beer?

JetLi · 08/08/2011 18:35

Blush home - sorry fintime, you are clearly not a ho Blush

reshape - where in n.lincs? barton?

Funtimewincies · 08/08/2011 18:41

I do expect dh to make me a cup of tea in return at least Grin.

Tankard, pint pot or ladies' glass JetLi?

YellowDinosaur · 08/08/2011 18:46

Thanks for the sympathy beer funtime. Much appreciated. How old are your 2? Mine are 3 and 5 and while lovely most of the time certainly have good saint patience trying skills at times. Letting them exhaust themself while I MN use up some energy in soft play is always a good move!

brambles those waves are as high as me!!!

Funtimewincies · 08/08/2011 18:53

They are 4 years and 20 months, yellow.

People keep asking me if I'll have any more (because you have to have a girl as well, don't you Hmm) and I just want to poke them in the eye Grin.

notwavingjustironing · 08/08/2011 19:29

Another two noisy boys here - what is it with them all ?

And no, I don't want a girl either

(but a cold beer or Crabbies wouldn't go amiss .....) Grin
