The Glass of Wine, The Campfire and The Awfully Big Adventure

We've all blethered on pleasantly on Seashells' lovely previous thread and, with the school holidays approaching, lots of us are about to start our summer adventures( not all of which are in tents....!) This thread is for us all to check back in and generally keep in touch. So we've packed up our Icey-Teks and our Tarps and our Death Socks, gently doused the burning embers of our planning campfire and rinsed out the wine glasses.

We're ready for our Awfully Big Adventure.

Come and talk about yours here (even if you're staying put!)

Lovecat Grin its ok, I've seen worse in gay clubs in London during rather drunk nights out with friends when I was young and could do such things Wink

Welcome back Lost :) enjoy your night of luxury before the final drive home!

Slubber-happy packing, I hope all your preparations go well (are you in the medical profession out of interest )

Sal thanks for all your efforts, we have had a gorgeous sunny day today again.

Notwaving-karaoke, uh oh!!

Chippy your trip sounds fantastic :)

Anyhow, not much report here, hangover was notnto bad as I am a lightweight, so managed not to make a fool of myself too badly, phew...

SeaShellsMyDogSmells · 05/08/2011 18:34

Book club = wine club. Our Dhs just refer to it as wine club now... Blush

Slubberdegullion · 05/08/2011 18:37

oh

aren't you all lovely.

I am feeling a bit low. It's the gin.

dds are at their grandparents for the night so had planned when dh got home lovely walk to the pub, dinner, few beers and a toast to the long awaited holiday. dh just called to say he has had to go in to do an out of hours session until midnight.

FUCK YOU NHS

Slubberdegullion · 05/08/2011 18:38

SeaShells I am/was a physio.

MisSalLaneous · 05/08/2011 18:44

Oh Slubber, how awful. Dammit.

Chin up though, soon you're on your adventures, breathing in clean mountain air, watching mosquitos go "pop", sipping a crisp Riesling, thinking how utterly amazing life is. Almost there.

SeaShellsMyDogSmells · 05/08/2011 18:49

Ah, I thought you had to be something similar! I've been doing lots of canine physio and rehab this week, really cool :)

Bloody OOH shifts Angry I'm so relieved that my new job is ooh except weekends. Can you get a good film on and have some wine instead? Long hot soak in the bath as you have the place to yourself? At least v v soon you will both be out ofncontact and they can't spring extra shifts on you!

SeaShellsMyDogSmells · 05/08/2011 18:49

I meant NO ooh, sorry

Slubberdegullion · 05/08/2011 18:54

Bloody bloody OOH.

but you are right SeaShells

this may be the last opportunity I have to watch a crappy girlie movie and have a bath in a long time.

Slubberdegullion · 05/08/2011 18:56

mm canine physio. I may have to pick your brains on my return. Unsuprisingly my desire to return to working for the national health service is not that great.

SeaShellsMyDogSmells · 05/08/2011 19:27

I'll do my best to answer Slubber!

Are you on maternity leave? I've got quite a few friends who work in the nhs and it sounds like a real mixed bag

Slubberdegullion · 05/08/2011 19:54

yes! Yes I am on maternity leave, a rather extended maternity leave of seven years Grin

Main problem with returning to work is that there are no jobs. nadda. Am probably going to have to retrain either in a different speciality or do something altogether different.

Rather fancy working in a camping shop.

notwavingjustironing · 05/08/2011 20:23

Do you know what Slubber, have a lovely proper hug from me

We will miss you - are you going to post while away?

I could sing Valerie by Amy Winehouse if you like to make you feel better ?

< deluded remnants of last night's triumphant singing escapade>

MisSalLaneous · 05/08/2011 20:51

Slubber, in case I miss you before tomorrow, have a safe and wonderful trip! Will miss you a lot, so please keep in touch when you can.

notwaving, I think you should sing a bit for us!

Oh, and SeaShells, canine physio and rehab? That sounds fascinating.

notwavingjustironing · 05/08/2011 21:06

"why don't you come over Vaaaaalerie" ??

OP posts:
MisSalLaneous · 05/08/2011 21:13
Grin
lostineurope · 05/08/2011 21:16

'Vaaaalerie, Valerihihee'. Sorry can anyone join in, love karaoke! Cheer up Slubber, think if the overtime money he'll get (the only thing that kept me going). Having been 'let go' from my bank work as a Radiographer (the nice helpful type not the stroppy type) I'm back in next week, woo hoo! Have a fantastic holiday Smile

It's very odd being indoors!

notwavingjustironing · 05/08/2011 21:22

< high five Sal and Losty>

I also do Adele, Jessie J and Ellie Goulding

< deluded>

I did have a lovely lovely time though Grin

OP posts:
SeaShellsMyDogSmells · 05/08/2011 21:41

Why dint you come on over valerieeeeeeeee

Losty youre a radiographer? Cooool. I've been playing with MRI and ct for the first time this week to, that's seriously fun (but I have no idea how to work it all, and shame it's not at my practice, sigh!)

Slubber have a fantastic trip, I hope the weather gods are kind and the Dutch elves friendly!!

notwavingjustironing · 05/08/2011 21:49

You've all got proper jobs !

OP posts:
SeaShellsMyDogSmells · 05/08/2011 22:00

Nah, I just pretend to Notwaving, someone will catch me out soon Wink

lostineurope · 05/08/2011 22:12

Not a proper job, I'm the person they go to when it's me or closing the department! I'm so part time I'm practically unemployed. I used to work in a huge teaching hospital using the MRI and CT and doing all the interesting stuff and in Paeds which was my main speciality but now I work in a cottage hospital sympathising with old people about the state of their knees Smile. As slubber knows proper jobs are few and far between, which is great because random camping weekends are hard to work around on call!

< wafts off the thread singing Carpenters melodies, my karaoke songs of choice>

brambleschooks · 05/08/2011 23:43

Wafts in playing the sax part. I don't play sax so it sounds a bit crap.

Good luck with all yr preparations slubber. Have an awesome time.

Had a bit of a speedo incident on the beach today. Killer waves so went surfing rather than canoe oddessey. Noted the two nicely groomed gents near me on beach helping one another with their suncream. Including a rather thorough massage of the 'upper thigh region'. There is not much you can hide in speedos when your beloved is hqving an effect and these were not smuggling budgies, more like African greys. The chaps were very sweet and lay there hooding hands, which was lovely. The family next to me went all daily mail and were positively imploding with outrage, but I don't think they could decide between racism, Islamophobia, homophobia or just sartorial outrage.

Canoes this evening with two seals. I am positively a selkie now.

Feels all left out and non nhs-y. I can coordinate a good multiagency meeting covering most of you guys though. :) chicken relaxation massages, slubber? I've already had to hold one over a bowl of warm water when she was passing a softie.

MisSalLaneous · 06/08/2011 01:43

"these were not smuggling budgies, more like African greys"
ROFL. And I don't do that often.

I feel a bit embarrassed about my job now comparing it to chicken yoga and the whole making-the-world-a-better-place of some of your jobs... I'm the nerd in the corner doing the accounts. And moaning about budgets.

Am about to join in in big sing-in, but being a Friday evening after 1, this is, of course, at your own risk. I have one huge fan who insists I'm the best singer in the world. He is, however, 3 and tone deaf.
