Camping

Our UK Camping forum has all the information you need on finding the right equipment for your tent or caravan.

I wonder if the camping topic should be expanded?

To include outdoorsy stuff too, like walking, proper walking with walking boots on and an OS map in your extremely goretex coat that has an OS map pocket. Maybe climbing too (not that I'm a climber) and other outside activities and kit that don't quite fit into sport and exercise or a holiday as such.

See I want to ask about proper walking sandals, you know with hearty straps and anti fungal properties. I can't ask in style and beauty, or in sport, the dog people were helpful on the wellies front but I,m not sure sandals comes under the jurisdiction of dogs.

Products makes me think of micro fibre mops.

It could make this topic could be a bit more exciting and happening through the winter months when it gets a bit sad and quiet. We could discuss circular walks in the lake district and dry stone walls.

What do you think?

Sounds great and another reason to spend lots of time lusting after stuff working.

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 01/03/2011 15:05

rofl @ the idea of asking about walking sandals on Style and Beauty.

you could ask in Feminism, plenty of sensible expertise on there judging by a thread we had once, but people might think you were taking the mickey Grin

of course, the advantage of calling it Camping and Outdoors is that if people wanted to know about Cobbs merely for taking to the beach, they would come here.

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 01/03/2011 15:05

sorry, that should have said 'plenty of sensible SHOE expertise'

catinthehat2 · 01/03/2011 15:07

I think you need to get out more

DuplicitousBitch · 01/03/2011 15:25

[shudder]

SlubberKongWubba · 01/03/2011 17:30

arf @ cat

Seth, exactly I'm sure the lure of the Cobb extends beyond those who just want to use them chez tent. In my Venn diagram of sensible sandal mn topics I never thought to include the feminists Grin

yy PP. I love all those climbing gadgets, special shoes and chalk bags. I will never in a million years climb up a rock but I think I would enjoy lurking on a crampon thread.

OI DB, what's your shudder for? Sandals or the threat of the spread of further Cobb evangelism?

OP posts:
sethstarkaddersmackerel · 01/03/2011 17:36

it's probably both - she's thinking 'Sandals? Pah! Just what I would have expected of a Cobb-lover.'

DuplicitousBitch · 01/03/2011 18:00

yes to sandals - no amount of technology can every make those things not stink

SlubberKongWubba · 01/03/2011 18:02

yeah you are probably right seth.

I can just imagine cadac owners tottering about in their strappy wedges adjusting the gas carefully so not to chip the nail extensions.

OP posts:
SlubberKongWubba · 01/03/2011 18:05

I believe not DB. I believe there are sandals out there that are totally impregnated with anti stink molecules.

I need to know about them.

OP posts:
DuplicitousBitch · 01/03/2011 19:09

i refuse to allow the camping topic to enable you in your frumpy footwear. yes the crocs make sense but the stinky sandals are an affront to nature

SlubberKongWubba · 01/03/2011 19:34

I KNOW they are an affront.

No one likes a stinky sandal

But where else shall I go? What other topic will have me on my sandal quest?

AND

If it is Camping and Outdoors we can talk about Pink OS maps vs Orange OS maps, and geocaching and pub walks in Cumbria.

It's not just all about the sandals.

OP posts:
DuplicitousBitch · 01/03/2011 19:37

i don't like geocaching either, it smacks of cheating imo

DuplicitousBitch · 01/03/2011 19:38

why do you need these sandals? can't you just wear nice shoes?

MegBusset · 01/03/2011 19:41

You can do geocaching with compass and map if you want to be really hardcore...

SlubberKongWubba · 01/03/2011 19:44

cheating??

Oh I see re using a sat nav thing and not a compass?

We have yet to do it but don't you think it sounds fun? I was supremely shit at orienteering but this to me sounds feasible, and you still have to find the little cache.

YES I do need sandals. These will be the only shoes I take away (apart from flip flops for the shower). I walk the dog for 2 hours a day too. I need good supportive sandals that let the air in but with good grip.

OP posts:
SlubberKongWubba · 01/03/2011 19:45

Look LOOK

If this was Camping and Outdoors there could be a whole special thread for geocaching.

Now it will all get mixed up with sandals chat.

Meg i have ishoos with compasses. i think I might be partially magnetic. I have a bionic knee.

OP posts:
DuplicitousBitch · 01/03/2011 19:47

you should talk to teh gimmers on uk campsite about sandals, they would LOVE it

DuplicitousBitch · 01/03/2011 19:49

these are almost inoffensive

SlubberKongWubba · 01/03/2011 19:53

[grr]

I want to talk about sandals HERE dammit.

If I ask on ukcs all I will get is sandal links and smilies. I want sandal anecdotes, maybe with someone falling down and a rescue. And some cursing. Perhaps a suggestion or two of what cheese and chutney to eat on your cracker whan you are wearing your sandals.

I want a sandal CHAT fgs

why is this so hard to understand?

you sound like my mother "why don't you just ask at John Lewis"

OP posts:
SlubberKongWubba · 01/03/2011 19:54

Those are nice DB, but i cannot see anti stink technology.

OP posts:
DuplicitousBitch · 01/03/2011 20:04

i believe you would be escorted from the shop if you ask about body odour in john lewis

glitterkitty · 01/03/2011 20:08

AgION antimicrobial protection is what you need.

There are some seriously ugly shoes available with this kind of stuff in, if you are prepared to pay.

DuplicitousBitch · 01/03/2011 20:09

wear socks?

SlubberKongWubba · 01/03/2011 20:10

LOL

yes just imagine the assistants trying to cover up their horror and revulsion behind the top notch never knowingly undersold customer service smile of helpfulness.

"I'm sorry madam, maybe DB sports would be more appropriate"
