Camping

Our UK Camping forum has all the information you need on finding the right equipment for your tent or caravan.

I wonder if the camping topic should be expanded?

To include outdoorsy stuff too, like walking, proper walking with walking boots on and an OS map in your extremely goretex coat that has an OS map pocket. Maybe climbing too (not that I'm a climber) and other outside activities and kit that don't quite fit into sport and exercise or a holiday as such.

See I want to ask about proper walking sandals, you know with hearty straps and anti fungal properties. I can't ask in style and beauty, or in sport, the dog people were helpful on the wellies front but I,m not sure sandals comes under the jurisdiction of dogs.

Products makes me think of micro fibre mops.

It could make this topic could be a bit more exciting and happening through the winter months when it gets a bit sad and quiet. We could discuss circular walks in the lake district and dry stone walls.

What do you think?

Gosh there are so many people around who have been here for an age but whom I don't know from Eve.Sad

Outdoors cooking seems to lose the confining female stereotypes just in virtue of the fact that poking a barbie with tongs is like running around a bonfire with a spear, so I'm sure that outdoors crafting can be similarly ungendered. Think of it as stretching a bison hide on a frame

i don't know anyone any more either, eleison, dinnae fret. Grin i feel like an old auntie at a party these days, wanting to ask 'and who are you, dear?' but unable to because i should know that it's norman's son's daughter from his first marriage.

Grin Like the Pauper and the Prince.

Lol at the idea of a whole old folks home of amnesiac oldies, happily accepting Brew and Biscuit from other inmates that they once swore undying animosity to.

I have been around for years, under the radar.

But if we were on FeministAcademicCampingMumsNet. Then I'd be royalty matriarchy.

Is Slubber around? I'm about to fire up the Cobb for focaccia and caraway shortbread.

I'll bring the shortbread if it is edible. It may taste a bit odd though - smoky focaccia is one thing but smoky shortbread may be bit funny.

yes please!
ok, lesson one, don't attempt to cook too big a loaf in your Cobb - I did my usual 500g flour and it is massive and I think preventing the heat from reaching the top!

Seth-how did you get on?

Engelbert-MWR? Are you all academics? We really should form a breakaway group at this rate!

ChippyMinton · 03/03/2011 17:31

seth - are you cooking outdoors? Brrrrr.

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 03/03/2011 17:34

I am very smoky and I burnt the focaccia and one batch of shortbread.
I mean really burnt, the biscuits were carbonised black discs and the focaccia was a centimetre of carbon with vile-tasting bread on top.

this Cobb baking is harder than I thought.

still at least I have a steep learning curve and will not disgrace myself on a campsite Smile

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 03/03/2011 17:52

batch 2 - not bad
batch 3 - perfect Smile

SeaShellsHasSandInHerShoes · 03/03/2011 19:37

Very impressed :)

re the tins for the bread, I used a round pizza tin that fits neatly in the Cobb with a small gap through which hot air can rise, but I hadn't reckoned with the bread expanding and blocking the hot air.
hence burnt underneath.

the same tin was fine for the biscuits.

SlubberKongWubba · 04/03/2011 14:57

Oh I missed a live Cobb thread Sad and such advanced cobbery to boot [double Sad ]
