Camping

Our UK Camping forum has all the information you need on finding the right equipment for your tent or caravan.

I wonder if the camping topic should be expanded?

To include outdoorsy stuff too, like walking, proper walking with walking boots on and an OS map in your extremely goretex coat that has an OS map pocket. Maybe climbing too (not that I'm a climber) and other outside activities and kit that don't quite fit into sport and exercise or a holiday as such.

See I want to ask about proper walking sandals, you know with hearty straps and anti fungal properties. I can't ask in style and beauty, or in sport, the dog people were helpful on the wellies front but I,m not sure sandals comes under the jurisdiction of dogs.

Products makes me think of micro fibre mops.

It could make this topic could be a bit more exciting and happening through the winter months when it gets a bit sad and quiet. We could discuss circular walks in the lake district and dry stone walls.

What do you think?

I particularly like the random (official) caps.

Why AgION?

What does it mean?

SlubberKongWubba · 01/03/2011 20:14

SlubberKongWubba · 01/03/2011 20:15

Ag is silver isn't it?

And silver is antibaccterial iirc

or is that lycanthropy

maybe it's both

I have a feeling silver is deffo good for killing bugs.

Yes, let me be Outdoorsy too. But I think that some of the camping on here is towny camping. You know tents with windows, and tables and chairs and things. What would they make of "what's the best way up Snowdon - Miners or PYG" type threads? Should it be more exclusive. Next to Camping but not camping?

I've got some Keen sandals - they have (whisper) some pink on them. But they are great for walking. And I used to have some rock boots/rock shoes - see I can't even remember what they're called. That was a couple of boyfriends ago. Sorry, realised you want antistink. Not sure if they have that.

Feel like I'm being a bit earnest here, but if there is one thing MN lacks it's an awareness of outdoors. I would like more outdoorsy stuff. I used to hang out on uk.alt.walking or whatever it was called about a million years ago. 99% of it was blokes. I like blokes. I even live with one. But I like MN too.

DuplicitousBitch · 01/03/2011 20:21

you are making jokes about anti-fungal technology - see where this leads, get some nice cotton socks

DuplicitousBitch · 01/03/2011 20:22

nonsense DOWNY proper outdoorsy people don't wear sandals walking, you will get ticks. [shakes head sadly]

glitterkitty · 01/03/2011 20:31

Thats right, DP.

SlubberKongWubba · 01/03/2011 20:32

Thank you Downy. I will check out your suggestion.

I don't mind if they are together or separate tbh. The campers are generally good sorts though so you might get some crossover action. I agree though, I would love some more outdoorsy threads.

DB thank you for your tick concern. Would it make you happy if I said that with my walking boots, and walking shoes and wellingtons I wear socks (cotton). No to sandals and socks. Even I'm not that bad.

SlubberKongWubba · 01/03/2011 20:33

What about river walking, and shoreline walking?

You can't wear shoes then.

OP posts:
DuplicitousBitch · 01/03/2011 20:34

i wear a canoe in that instance

SlubberKongWubba · 01/03/2011 20:39

Lolol

OP posts:
SlubberKongWubba · 01/03/2011 20:41

Downy, some of the Keen sandals look great. No mention of anti stink though.

FairyBex · 01/03/2011 20:48

How about Keen sandals. Handy rubber toe bits that stop you stubbing toes. Although I love love love my teva sandals for camping, I've had them about 5 years and they're still fab and give me 'interesting' tan lines.

Oblomov · 01/03/2011 20:50

oh, you lot, now come on.
Laugh at breaking nails on cadac.
I don't have nail extensions, but we do have a mother wammer of a cadac, with all the covers, nonb stick liner, wok, etc etc.
And I sit there, drinking rose in my plastic huge winer glass, while dh cooks ribs.
You lot with your itchy wool socks pulled up to your knees, give us all a bad name.
I'm not talking wag here. But theres no need for all this. I have some very comfy, snazzy looking plastic , slimline crock sandals thingys which are fab.

SlubberKongWubba · 01/03/2011 20:55

ooooooh another Cadacian. Hahaha @ plastic glass of Rose

Fairy there are a zillion sandals on the Keen site Confused

I do like those tevas DB linked back there.

Fennel · 01/03/2011 21:03

I could be quite comfy in a Feminst Campers thread Smile.

I used to belong to an academic feminist reading group where walking boots were popular footwear (for a very urban city). so you could nip straight from seminar to mountaintop. Kicking ass as you went.

AitchTwoOh · 01/03/2011 21:09

got the sims today, slub. kids bedded down in front room to celebrate. VEH excited about summer now...

SlubberKongWubba · 01/03/2011 21:15

Grin Fennel. I think an outdoors academic feminist walking topic might be a bit niche (although Seth might be up for it)

Aitch, great! Did you lie on them also? Are they to your liking?

OP posts:
Fennel · 01/03/2011 21:21

I'm used to being niche, I could just talk to myself in a corner, and glare at anyone who describes tents as "2 man" etc.

SlubberKongWubba · 01/03/2011 21:28

Nobody puts the walking boot academic feminists in the corner.

OP posts:
greenlotus · 01/03/2011 21:28

Outdoors academic feminist walker Grin

I think I will put that on my Facebook!

I think it would be a great topic, totally agree about the problems of trying to source walking stuff on Style & Beauty, why not suggest it? So is it to be in Travel or Sport or In the Club or Fun & Games? and what should it be called?

Are Keen those sandals which kind of go over the toes?

SlubberKongWubba · 01/03/2011 21:35

Greenlotus, dunno Grin I'm no good at coming up with clever names. Maybe it should go in Other Stuff, next to Off the Beaten Track.

Maybe it should be called ON the beaten track.

Har
