Camping

Our UK Camping forum has all the information you need on finding the right equipment for your tent or caravan.

I wonder if the camping topic should be expanded?

To include outdoorsy stuff too, like walking, proper walking with walking boots on and an OS map in your extremely goretex coat that has an OS map pocket. Maybe climbing too (not that I'm a climber) and other outside activities and kit that don't quite fit into sport and exercise or a holiday as such.

See I want to ask about proper walking sandals, you know with hearty straps and anti fungal properties. I can't ask in style and beauty, or in sport, the dog people were helpful on the wellies front but I,m not sure sandals comes under the jurisdiction of dogs.

Products makes me think of micro fibre mops.

It could make this topic could be a bit more exciting and happening through the winter months when it gets a bit sad and quiet. We could discuss circular walks in the lake district and dry stone walls.

What do you think?

arf at on the beaten track
yes, i did, they seem comfy, and dh thrilled to be seeing the back of the airbed. now i just have to BELIEVE that i won't freeze to death so close to the ground.

SlubberKongWubba · 01/03/2011 21:44

Layers Aitch layers. Belief not required.

Glad you found them comfy.

groovy or gruesome sandals but both have in-built stink-repellant.

Merrell is the choice of cadacians though Wink

SlubberKongWubba · 01/03/2011 22:01

Ta Chippy. The groovy ones are nice, but don't look very, um, all day rugged tramp-about-able. I fear gruesome is where I'm at.

SlubberKongWubba · 01/03/2011 22:24

Engelbert, what a beautiful, heartwarming sandal story Smile

Did you see that DB, did you?

You'd never get a post like that on ukcs.

Engelbert do they have a name these wonderous sandals?

I have some sandalss like these. I love them more than i can say, though I can't vouch for their anti-stinkiness any more!!

SeaShellsDreamingOfSummer · 02/03/2011 13:51

I had a pair of merrell that lasted years, and I walked miles in them...they did stink though after one too many "it doesn't look that boggy" by dh Hmm

I like the idea of a more outdoorsy topic, as we camp to go trekking etc. What about "round campfire" as a topic suggestion?

(Slubber, I'd love to see style and beauty's response to your OP!!)

SeaShellsDreamingOfSummer · 02/03/2011 13:53

Sorry, "round the campfire" , not "round campfire". You can make your fire any shape you want (dh prefers a squarish design) Grin

notwavingjustironing · 02/03/2011 13:57

What about "The Great Outdoors" ?

all encompassing, (geddit?)

I'm better with tents than sandals though tbh but I'll try and fit in

Blu · 02/03/2011 14:04

Outward bound. We need an Outward Bound board
and
Wild camping
and
Camping with trampoline, gazebo, 8-speaker sound system and blow-up sofa on a site with a clubhouse bar
and
Fake Camping at Featherdown Farm.

I know lots of campfire designs. And names to go with them, things like Hunter (2 parallel logs), Trough, Pyramid. Thanks to a childhood in the guides and now an adulthood involved in Woodcraft Folk. But it doesn't fit in wild camping, nor (quite) in Feminist Camping. perhaps Institutional Hearty Camping?

Well yes, you could bring feminism into it (gets back onto soapbox), that is one reason that these days I am involved in woodcraft folk not guides, the woodies are very strong on gender equality Smile. but this is all getting too far away from sandals (woodcraft folk whittle and weave their own).

SlubberKongWubba · 02/03/2011 15:37

Thank you looking for your comfy birkies Engelbert, shame they are no longer doing them.

The Merrells are looking good with added antibacness.
Seashells the s&b people would all be gnawing on their fists. They wouldn't like it. Anything with shock absorbing capacity would send them into a tiz.

I like Outward Bound (sounds energetic) and also The Great Outdoors (more contemplative of trees and bridleway bylaws).

A thread about campfire designs should be saved especially for the new topic (if they let us have it)

No no Engelbert anything vaguely tenty should stay in camping. I don't want the lovely camping topic to fragment Sad.

mm

I think it is still called hiking. When I think hiking I always picture someone with a proper stick or maybe even two, and a LARGE rucksack.

And they are going up hill and down dale at a pace.
