As suggested in AIBU I've started a thread here. Anyone who wants to join for support that would be great! Going to weigh myself tomorrow morning. I've planned my food for tomorrow. Aiming for 1600 calories a day, 10000 steps as a minimum. 3 gym workouts a week.

I have just gone back onto my mfp account and I have gained nearly a stone since I last went on there. Awful!!

Pollyforever · 22/08/2022 08:14

15.4.6 this morning so 0.4lbs on. I'm actually OK with this because I'm due on my period in 4 days and my boobs feel like bowling balls!

@Fatasbuggery

I hope it goes well for you this week. It’s all so difficult.

I ended up eating half a packet of crisps and a glass of gin last night. I’m disappointed with myself for not being able to cut out the crisps and alcohol, but was feeling quite pleased I’d only drank one glass and only eaten half a packet of crisps, which for me is very good.

After reflection this morning, I realised it’s because I didn’t have anymore mixer left, now wine or lager, and no more crisps either! Still, I didn’t start eating cheese, which I would often do…

Fuzzyduckduckyfuzz · 22/08/2022 19:12

Scraped a 0.8lb loss this week.

Stupid medication for anxiety makes this so much more difficult

Trug · 22/08/2022 23:40

Well done and congratulations on any changes made or steps in the the right direction!

I’ve lost 2 pounds and had a real mindset shift. Losing the 3 stones is non-negotiable for me now. The excess weight is going and I am committed to that. It may take longer than planned but that’s OK. I’m going to enjoy the process of getting fitter and healthier and treating my body to nutritious foods and plenty of water (plus the occasional pizza/wine night too).

Good luck for the week ahead everyone.

TimWasMeanToMe · 23/08/2022 06:51

Hi. I’m back from my trip. I was pretty good with food, but I drank way too much wine. I hit 10000 steps 3 out of 4 days. All in all I think I did ok. I’m not expecting a loss, but I don’t think I’ll get a huge gain either…
Anyway, back to strict calorie counting for 3 whole days before I go to a festival. I’ve been looking online at the food outlets there and they all look mega unhealthy (very fried, loaded with toppings, lots of carbs). I’ve made note of the places that look slightly healthier. I’ll also take some food myself, but it’s not set up for cooking or anything and without proper storage there aren’t a lot of options. Oh well I’ll do my best and I’ll have a good time!

@Trug what a brilliant attitude! I am going to copy it!

Welcome @Fatasbuggery and@SprinkleOfSunak .

TimWasMeanToMe · 25/08/2022 07:45

I weighed in this morning and have lost 1lb this week - which I’m absolutely chuffed about as I’ve only been within my calorie allowance for 2 days. It brings my loss to 7lb in 2 weeks.
I hope you’re all doing well :-)

Trug · 25/08/2022 22:40

Well done @TimWasMeanToMe !! That’s brilliant. The festival sounds fun too. It’s such a good idea to have a look and see what might be available before you go (but also very important to have a good time!). I’m still managing the 10000 steps a day and have been wildswimming today which was amazing.

grumpypug · 04/09/2022 07:58

Hi everyone. Well, I haven't been doing too well over the last couple of weeks. Im back at work tomorrow so starting again. We have a wedding to go to next summer so I'd really like to be back down to a 12/14 for then.

I'm going to do a healthy packed lunch shop so I'm not tempted to get school dinners and have a proper go this week. Small steps!

I'm aiming to drink water, my 10k steps and no crisps or chocolate during the week. I've slipped back into bad habits of snacking on rubbish.

I think I'll weigh in on Saturday morning, hoping for a loss this week (and a bit of will power if there's any going spare!)

Trug · 04/09/2022 09:48

Have a great week @grumpypug there’s no shame in starting again, just keep your eyes on the prize! It’s great to have an event to focus on. How’s everyone else getting on?

I’ve been exercising up a storm and started doing Parkrun which is fab (who knew a middle aged woman could sweat that much - even mostly walking!!). I am getting fitter fast but I am still finding it difficult to actually lose any weight. So I’ve rejoined SlimmingWorld for some accountability.

Tootyfruity · 05/09/2022 00:25

Hi all can I join I have 3 stone to lose in 12 months, started a weight loss class on the 27th and have lost 3lbs so far. I am currently 13.8 and 5'4" and have until September next year to lose weight and tone up for my best friend's wedding she is 5'1" and a size 4 I really don't want to be her FAT bridesmaid

Fuzzyduckduckyfuzz · 06/09/2022 08:00

Morning everyone sorry I've been rubbish at posting. This is my graph as of this morning - the total is from last year but I'm down 8lb now since I first posted here.

Hopefully I've regained control now

Lose 3 stone by the end of 2022
Fatasbuggery · 06/09/2022 09:44

Morning all

I am going to cook up a storm when I get in later and trawl through healthy recipes. I need to keep busy otherwise I want to reach for the snacks.

Weirdly when I am cooking I am not bothered about eating.

Day 2 into a new term and I am questioning my life choices 🙄😎

SprinkleOfSunak · 07/09/2022 12:36

Hi all, I finally decided enough was enough last Wednesday morning, and decided to go what for me would be the equivalent of ‘cold turkey.’ I haven’t been doing any exercise yet. One thing at a time for me.

I have a lot of weight to lose, and I just couldn’t make a couple of small changes as it was working for me. Instead I was inspired by the ‘chemical diet, in which you can apparently lose up to 1 stone in a week. I know, I know, it’s a stupid idea really, but I’ve not followed it to the letter, and you’re only meant to do it for 1 week. For me it’s really helped, as it’s been making me evaluate what I would be able to leave out from my diet going forwards.

I’ve cut out all alcohol (with the exception of a bottle of wine at my friends’ house at the weekend) and all crisps. I was drinking at least 2 glasses of alcohol every night, and eating a share size bag of crisps or cheese and crackers every night after dinner.

I’ve also cut out lots of salt - just the odd little pinch here and there now, and have only used a little scraping of butter once. I’ve also cut out all dairy.

I’m going to start going to the gym again from Saturday, and will gradually reintroduce dairy to my diet.

I weighed myself this morning, even though really I should do it tomorrow morning, and I have lost 5 pounds.

Pollyforever · 18/10/2022 06:30

Sorry I've been missing! I havent had a good time. Just got weighed this morning - 15stone 8lbs! I got up at 5.50am and did a workout, no post workout buzz, just feel like I'm going to throw up!! Planned my calories for today 1800 cals and 157g protein. Good luck anyone who is still following this thread!!

OP posts:
SpringIntoChaos · 18/10/2022 07:25

Following...I started my weight loss plan 4 weeks ago at the heaviest I've EVER been at 16st1lb. Even writing that makes me feel sick!!

I'm down to 15st already so I'm really pleased so far. Just calorie counting and tracking on MFP. I've joined an online support group through my GP, which has been a great way of meeting people on the same journey, and getting support from a group to spur me on.

Weigh in is tomorrow so I'm hoping to be under the 15st mark, as psychologically I think this will be a real boost 🤣

Pollyforever · 18/10/2022 15:05

@SpringIntoChaos that's amazing! Well done! How many calories are you having a day? Have you been very strict with yourself? What exercise have you done? All my friends are either slim and have always been and are very strict with themselves all the time, or big and either don't care or like me seem incapable of sticking to a diet!

Dentistlakes · 18/10/2022 15:41

I lost nearly 4 stone a couple of years ago and have kept it off ever since. Things that worked for me are:

  • log everything in MFP, even little bites. It’s so tedious logging small stuff I stopped eating them in the end as it was so much hassle!
  • prioritise protein and hitting your macros
  • prioritise resistance training. Cardio is fine but alongside. If you can afford it, get a personal trainer to get you started, even if just a few sessions.
  • if you mess up, just move on. Don’t use it as an excuse to give up. If you get a flat tyre you don’t slash the other three.
  • weigh yourself regularly. I still weigh daily. My weight fluctuates (I can be a couple of kg heavier the day after a big workout), but it helps me to see the trends.
I hope some of that helps. Obviously what works for me won’t for everyone, but I know how hard it is so wanted to share.

Above all, don’t give up!

Pollyforever · 18/10/2022 15:50

Thank you for sharing. What was your starting weight and what calories did you set yourself?
The reason I keep asking about calories is because I've worked them out on different sites and from a PT and get different figures from 1600 to 2000 a day!
I had a PT for a year and I've put 10 lbs on!!!

OP posts:
Dentistlakes · 18/10/2022 16:14

My starting weight was 14 stone 2 Ibs and I’m now 9 stone 12Ibs. I started at around 1400 calories but that varied 100 or so either way when losing and is higher now in maintenance. My PT advises me on calories/macros depending on what my goal is (e.g building muscle or fat loss).

Did your PT give you advice on nutrition? I have one now but didn’t when I was losing. I started running (c25k and then trained for a half marathon). I’m still running but strength train x4 per week. I ended up getting a PT because I wanted to start using free weights and had no idea about technique.

Pollyforever · 18/10/2022 19:47

He gave me calories but no other advice. And when I said I was struggling to stick to them He didn't really have any advice.
You've done so well! How long did it take you to lose the weight? I bet you feel great!

OP posts:
Pollyforever · 18/10/2022 19:49

I used to be very fit and since having my 3rd child just can't get my head in the right place so I've yo-yod for 3 years and then the last year just keep slowly and steadily piling on the pounds!

OP posts:
Dentistlakes · 19/10/2022 21:24

For me, I had to come to a point where I was ready to commit. I had reached a point of no return, a weight where I knew I had simply reached my limit. Diet is absolutely the key when it comes to losing weight. Exercise helps
faciltate, but the bottom line is what goes in your mouth matters and you can’t put exercise a bad diet. Your PT can advise on calories and macros but they aren’t with you 24/7. It sounds harsh but you are responsible for what goes
into your mouth, no one else.

If you take one thing away, let it be this. It’s like making a snowball. Starting is hard but one you gain momentum it gets easier and more motivating. Exercise will come into play the more weight you lose. Gradually the feeling that f being lighter and fitter will outweigh the desire
to eat unhealthy. That first bit is the hardest but once you get going it’s easier.

It may take you more than one go but you not fail and if you give up! Keep trying and you will surely get there!

Dentistlakes · 19/10/2022 21:27

To answer your question, it took about 9
months to lose the weight but I felt a lot better a few months in.
