Anyone want to join me in losing weight?

Mrsramsayscat · 30/06/2018 10:18

I lost weight last year and more the year before. But having fallen off the wagon a bit lately, I now need to lose another stone to get back into my BMI (health reasons).

Anyone care to join me?

Hi yes!

Def want to join you! I have been going for a month and have lost 5lb. Slow progress but I have been doing eat less and haven’t really managed much exercise.

I have a 14mo and a 3.5 yo, work 4 days and look after them on my own a lot as DH works shifts as a doctor. I struggle to exercise and am very tired as I don’t sleep much (14mo’s sleep!).

Need some encouragement as am starting to feel like I’m wasting my time. I have quit chocolate and crisps as I just lived on those and only eat salad or soup for lunch.

I want to be 9st and am currently 10.2.

:)

Mrsramsayscat · 30/06/2018 17:00

You're doing amazingly well , given you work and have two toddlers.

What are you using? I use MyFitnessPal, and find that works well for me.

I tend to have salad or soup too, though I focus more on healthy food and making sure I save 500 calories for dinner than anything else- so have the occasional sandwich.

I'm 11 9 and want to be 10.5.

I was 10 10 at Christmas and 11 1 in January 😳

10 10 is a size 10 on me, which I'm more than happy with.

OP posts:
ImogenTubbs · 30/06/2018 17:17

Yes please. I'm using MyFitnessPal as well. I am 6ft tall and have always been curvy but recently bought a pair of scales that actually work and discovered I was16 stone! I've been messing around for a few months and lost a few pounds but in the last week I've really gone for it and am 15st 3lbs as of this morning. I'm not sure exactly what I want to be. Ideally around 13st 7lbs, but I'd be delighted to get back down to 14st. A lot of my clothes would fit my a lot better.

Feeling veeeery hungry today but determined not to give in as have a night or tonight and have been saving some calories. Have been eating salads with eggs or beans and snacking on almonds. Totally cut out crisps, chocolate, cake, and have massively cut down on booze.

Mrsramsayscat · 30/06/2018 20:54

Welcome! Wow, that's a huge amount of weight in a short amount of time. I'm sure you'll get there.

Your diet sounds very healthy, though.

I find I have to have 3 meals a day. I lose weight very slowly (0.5-1lb a week). If im lucky 😄

Chosenbyyou · 01/07/2018 07:03

Imogen that is amazing!

I don’t get big weight losses either in a week and if I get a lb I’m really happy haha!

I’ve slipped a bit the last few days - nothing major but just not as strict. Will weigh tomorrow and update!

Is anyone doing exercise? I really really should lol!

:)

ImogenTubbs · 01/07/2018 07:31

A pound a week is a really good healthy weight loss. And much more likely to be sustainable than dramatic shifts that you put back on easily.

How do you manage with family meals when you're trying to cut down what you eat?

ImogenTubbs · 01/07/2018 08:06

Just to be clear - I didn't lose 11lbs in a week! I had lost about 7lbs over several months and then turbo charged things this week and lost 4. 7lbs in a week would be a bit much!

beardymcbeardy · 01/07/2018 08:10

Count me in. I'm 11 12 and ideally would like to be 10 4. Was 10 6 last year but weight has just crept back on. Have 3 weeks worth of a vlcd that I keep meaning to begin to kick start weight loss. I'm a 12/14 atm and wanna got into my size 10s again.

Mrsramsayscat · 01/07/2018 09:27

Welcome Beardy. We share similar weight goals.

Chosenbyyou, I wish I did! I do walk and garden, though. It's hard to keep a routine going.

Imogen, 4lb is plenty and healthier, too. When I had gallstones I was told that losing large amounts can cause them and that losing no more than two pounds a week usually is best. I don't imagine the odd time matters.

In terms of family meals, it depends what we're having. Sometimes I skip one of two elements and add others and sometimes I have something else. I did well when I made a big recipe of eg bean and veg casserole and kept it in the fridge for three days. Or I freeze recipes and defrost a portion, if the family meal won't work. Mostly I have the same but with a huge size salad, or veg, or they have additional courses.

My tip tip is to develop positive attitudes to healthy foods or swaps and try to internalise them as habits. What works for others?

I'm in, I just done my first week low carb but also calorie counting. I was told I shouldn't be counting on low carb but my brain doesn't work like that.

I'm finding that but cutting out carbs I have lots more calories to play with re protein. So far so good. I will officially weigh on a Monday morning but am a daily weigher so I have been down to 11st 3 days in a row. Would love the scales to start with 10 but I've lost 5lbs in the first week so can't complain. I know it'll slow now on!

I'm the kind of person who has one healthy meal then can't understand why I'm not skinny!

I'm 5'5" and was 11st 5lbs, now 11st but would like to be 10st 3lbs (ideally 9st 10lbs but I'm doing one step at a time). 10st 10 would be top of bmi and take me out of "overweight".

Lastdanceagain · 01/07/2018 12:38

I'll join! I'm 12 stone 8 and want to lost 2 stone. Over the last year my weight has crept up over a stone due to family illness, bereavement and new job, and me basically not focusing enough on myself.

I'm motivated as we are taking the DCs on their first holiday to a warm country in October and have promised myself I'll be wearing a bikini for the first time in 30 years.

For everyone's sake this needs to happen!

I've joined a cheap gym and am using MFP to count calories. Aiming for between 1200 and 1500 and 10K steps a day. Been at it about 2 weeks and have about 3lbs off.

ImogenTubbs · 01/07/2018 15:42

That's great Lastdance. M0therofdragons - I'm the same. I've worked really hard all week - why haven't I lost 2 stone yet??? Grin

Cheeseandapple · 01/07/2018 16:29

I'd love to join! When I got married 2 years ago I was 11 stone (I'm 5'7") and felt good. I managed to shift a lot of weight a couple of years before that when I reduced sugar intake quite strictly and began exercising more regularly. Eventually became more relaxed about sugar but also more sensible about food choices and carried on running/doing HIIT a few times a week.

My daughter was born at the end of May. Since I became pregnant and for the last 6 weeks I've paid no attention to what I'm eating and have been doing no exercise beyond very gentle yoga.

I'm now 13.8 stone 😱 I'd love to be 10 stone by next summer and that works out 1lb per day, so hopefully realistic!

Planning to cut the crap (no more taste the difference triple chocolate cookies 😭) and get more veg in. Want to start some kind of exercise but tricky to do more than a walk around the park with DD. Will aim for HIIT or a run each week but will be walking with the buggy mostly.

Good luck everyone!

Cheeseandapple · 01/07/2018 16:31

@Lastdanceagain that's brill! Such a good start to stay motivated! X

Mrsramsayscat · 01/07/2018 17:08

Motherofdragons, 5lb in your first week is a great start. You must be doing something right! Maybe it's the right time for you.

Cheese, I hope you mean a pound a week! That seems achievable, doesn't it? Does your child sleep ok? Tiredness and dieting is a tough combination.

OP posts:
Cheeseandapple · 01/07/2018 17:21

@Mrsramsayscat 😬 definitely meant 1lb per week! Ha ha!

My DD sleeps well enough that I'm not feeling sleep deprived but mostly sleeps on me for naps and during the night so I find it hard to use nap time to get much done.

I just remembered I've got a skipping rope and years ago was told 10 mins of high intensity jump rope = 30 min jog! Will try and build that in to our daily walk a few times a week.

Cheeseandapple · 01/07/2018 17:28

Why do we weigh ourselves in stone but talk about weekly weight loss in lbs? To me, it makes more sense to say I'm 193lbs and want to weigh 145. I've got about 50 lbs to lose so will be about a year.

Chosenbyyou · 01/07/2018 19:18

Cheese - I’m not really sure haha!

I’m going to go for it again tomoz! Back to strict!

Will weigh in the morning and report back. A chemist near my work has a posh weigh machine that logs your weight, BMI and body fat so I have been using that.....going to pray for a loss!

I’m 5’5, weigh 10.2 and want to be 9 ideally. I will feel like I’m getting somewhere if it starts with a 9 and not a 10!

90% of my clothes dont fit me atm :(

Go for it this week gang....we can do it! :)

Chosenbyyou · 01/07/2018 19:22

Oh and I was thinking maybe we should have a theme/moto of the week?!

Was going to propose....Drink LOADS of water for this week?! :)

BeetlebumShesAGun · 01/07/2018 19:24

Me please. I’ve been “doing slimming world” on and off but I just don’t stick to it and it’s just not working.

I lost 2st for my wedding using MFP three years ago so i’m Starting again tomorrow. I’m 30 in November. I’m 5 foot 1 and weigh 10st 3lbs and in an ideal world I’d like to be at least 8st7lbs. Need to really think about meals as DH has recently gone veggie, meaning my usual weight loss dinner of grilled chicken/fish and salad doesn’t work anymore!

PrincessPlod · 01/07/2018 19:26

Being forced to join you as dh is making not settle hints about the lack of dust in my diet

DrMadelineMaxwell · 01/07/2018 19:29

Yes please.

I have a mixed bag of weeks ahead.

3 weeks of good calorie counting (nutracheck works for me), fitting in 2 or 3 exercise classes a week and ditching as much sugar as possible to get me started.

Then a week in a hotel in London and sightseeing with DD2 while DD1 is in a history summer school. Lots of walking, but will need to take care to eat healthily there as no kitchen for self catering etc.

Then a week in Spain on half board! This is the tricky one but I did aqua fit in the hotel pool several times and tried to avoid the worst options at dinner and breakfast.

Then another 4 weeks where I can crack back on with it - and do lots of exercise as it's school hols and I am off with the kids. THey are teens so I nip out to do morning fitness classes while they enjoy their lie ins. THen do a few more classes in the evenings too. :)

I aim to have dropped a dress size by Sept. And to have my hol clothes a little less snug by Spain.

ImogenTubbs · 01/07/2018 21:39

You're right Cheeseandapple - for me it's just ingrained. If I think 200lbs, I can't quite visualise how much that is, whereas if I think 14st 3, it's easier for me to have a sense of what kind of weight that is. Anything after about 20lbs I lose track!

Had a good weekend, even including a friend's birthday night out. Managed to eat very lightly and even with four glasses of wine I still came in about 1600 calories for the day. I was frickin' starving on Sunday morning though Confused

m0therofdragons · 01/07/2018 23:54

@ImogenTubbs I know. I am actually an intelligent person but there's a really thick section of my brain that deals with diet! Grin
