IMO

There is no BF mafia on MN.

There are people who are very strongly in favour of BF. They are right to be, it is better.

There are people who haven't BF and are upset and/or guilty. This is very sad.

But there is no mafia.

OK -I have been sucked into this in the few minutes before bed.

I have bf all of my three. It wasn't always easy, but it worked in the end. I am very pro bf.

I am also a really pc bleading heart liberal lefty who believes in rehabilitation over castration and all of that. I come from a kind of hippy background in some ways

I try to stay away from alot of these threads because it was easy for me, and also not really a choice but a presumption.

I know that when I open my mouth I will be saying something wrong, about how much easier I found it than making up bottles. Either that or I will piss someone off who had difficulties and couldn't continue.

I think that may be part of the BF mafia - people who are trying to help, or to put a quite understated opinion across are read as being judgemental.

Writing things out with no tone of voice etc does that.

And just to clarify, I didn't post that link because I thought it was an example of the bf "mafia". Just that it's a good example of the kinds of things that have upset people like me in the past.

Twinklemegan...why would you assume there are hurtful cooments about ff'ers on extended bf threads...I really think that just like those that ff for a while the whole importance tends to change...the only time extended bf threads get "nasty£ I would think, is when yet again one gets a negative comment...along the lines how disgusting it is to feed a walking, talking child the boob....because society can't handle the normatilty of it, because it's made out to be a weird thing, ossibly even pervy....

Twinkle - well insults are insults. attacks are attacks. insulting breastfeeding is not like the closed season or anything. attacking and mocking a woman for bf is very hurtful.

Sorry Weasley, you'll have to wade through it I'm afraid. I think it went a bit belly up on Wed 17th Jan if that helps. But actually, in order to understand where some of us are coming from, I really would recommend you read the whole thing and several other threads as well. You could narrow it down by searching since October last year. That's when I joined MN and there have been several robust discussions since then.

Oops, I try very hard IRL and on MN to be open minded - in other words, to change my opinions in the face of better evidence.
