here's the logo

you tube clip here

sma site

way to get round the new advertising rules, which forbid them from saying "close to breastmilk" &c
anyone like to complain? I would like them, very much, to have to change their logo and slogan again. especially as they have clearly spent quite a bit of wonga on it.

did you talk to christine too?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 16/04/2007 21:51

I emailed asking for the data that backs up their graph, and got the following email response:

"Hi VVVQV - Thank you for your query about the research around the Pre-biotics.

If you are a Healthcare Professional and you can provide us with an address we can certainly send you some research papers supporting Pre-biotics.

Either email us with your information or go onto the Healthcare Professional website on www.in-practice.co.uk where you should be able to access all the information you require. You would need to register to enable you to access the information.

Kind regards
Eileen Cook
Baby Care Advisor"

moondog · 16/04/2007 21:53

VeniVidiVickiQV · 16/04/2007 22:09

harpsichordcarrier · 16/04/2007 22:12

I get a little digest every month.
Why Babies Need Jars Of Expensive Puree Otherwise Their Jaws Will Fall Off etc

It defies belief that there are hpcs out there who actively seek advice from these companies.

I can never understand why this is allowed.

hmmm not sure pruni, maybe it is to do with promotion to the public?
moondog, cos you get a lot of free stuff/leaflets/posters you can give out about weaning &c to save you having to explain it?

OP posts:
moondog · 16/04/2007 22:44

Yes,but they have logos on them surely?!

I complained long and hard about SMA being involved in some very good leaflets put out on normal speech and lang. development.
I use them as handouts but Tippexed out sma bit and photocopied.

Twinklemegan · 16/04/2007 22:47

Tiktok - no of course it doesn't mean we don't care about them. But I refer you to my earlier post - thinking formula milk is "as good as" or "nearly as good as" breastmilk is not the same as thinking it is "the same as/nearly the same as". And they shouldn't lump together those stats either because there is potentially a world of difference between those two opinions. Maybe only 5% or less think it's as good as - who knows.

yellowrose · 17/04/2007 08:25

may be they think only health profs. are intellignet enough to understand their "research" and the rest of us need to hear it from mv/hv/gp because we are too thick ?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/04/2007 10:22

got the 'info' this morning.

Its packaged in a lovely glossy booklet covered in pictures of C&G products.....naturally.

Am off to read.....

moondog · 17/04/2007 11:42

Oooh VVV.
Report back to base asap please.

Still waiting for Chrisitine to return my call.

yellowrose · 17/04/2007 12:23

vvv - did you get any free samples you can flog on ebay ? lol !

moondog · 17/04/2007 15:53

I've had a phone call from a woman from 'regulatory affairs'.
I asked her again to tell me when a baby 'might not need breastmilk anymore.'
She said that people eventually go onto a mixed diet and that they show the baby is growing by giving him a t shirt and pull ups.
I said my baby had teeth, was ptty traiend and ate a mixed diet well before the age of 2 s o could she explain to me again when a baby might not need breastmilk.

Shew said something about a mixed diet being 'what people do'so I asked her if the purpose of the website is prescriptive or descriptive.

She told me she would send me info. on the pretty graph.

I told her the website 9and others0 were the subject of much discussion on a parenting website,She asked which one and I told her I would let her find out herself.

She replied
'So you want information from us but you wont give us information yourself.'

lol

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/04/2007 18:12

ROFL!

Well, lots of fascinating apparent facts. Need to go through it again really this evening. Have had a mother of a headache all day and struggled to retain information.

yellowrose · 17/04/2007 18:56

"regulatory affairs", she is probably a fecking lawyer, in which case ignore anything she has to say !

moondog · 17/04/2007 19:00

Well I thought so too.
She wasn't even attempting to sound knowledgeabel on feeding, just told me how her job is to ensure company works within regulations.I asked her what they wwre and she cited the standard stuff.

She told me she would give me an e mail reply to other question too.

The more I think about it,the more bothered I am about the 'he may not need breastmilk anymore' which is said over a cartoon of what is obviously a small baby.

the regulatory person sounds like she could do with some breastmilk, they say it raises IQ

yellowrose · 17/04/2007 20:07

moondog, dunno about this lot, but most large companies have in-house lawyers, a lot of it will be bog standard, bog boring making sure that the company "complies" with legislation, regulations, etc.

she probably knew more about the law than infant feeding, because they are in fact MORE concerned about not getting sued than the health of babies, cynical but true

moondog · 17/04/2007 20:08

Oh yes,I know that Yellow and in a way it is good for them to be watching themselves.

It would be interesting to see what they said to someone with the same query....
