here's the logo

sma site

way to get round the new advertising rules, which forbid them from saying "close to breastmilk" &c
anyone like to complain? I would like them, very much, to have to change their logo and slogan again. especially as they have clearly spent quite a bit of wonga on it.

Cod, I will NOT stop talking about this because it MIGHT make some mythical woman feel guilty

Ponce · 15/04/2007 22:20

If a woman cant give birth naturally - should she pay for a c/section?

How should she choose? By the surgeon who looks the prettiest?

hunkermunker · 15/04/2007 22:21

That's NOT saying I don't care about her. Why are you trying to stifle this conversation? Have you started a thread about mascara that's not had many posts?

Ponce · 15/04/2007 22:21

harpsichordcarrier · 15/04/2007 22:21

zippi - the government? why not? I mean the nutrition of babies under six months is massively important isn't it? why shouldn't we invest in it?

the implication as i saw it (maybe i was just being hyper-sensitive) was that formula should only be available on prescription. hv's promote bf, mw's promote bf, most gp's promote bf, pg books promote bf, anyone with half a brain cell is aware of the benefits of bf. what about the alternatives? should they not be promoted too? i used SMA because that was what my SiL used, not because i was under any illusions that ff is anywhere near as good as bf

SHE'S MYTHICAL though
that's the point.
I care about actual women and babies
mythical women, I have less time for. they are often sleeping with Greek Gods and being chronicled and so on. which is very tiresome

hunkermunker · 15/04/2007 22:24

And as for the "mythical women" who think ff is the same as bf, I know them! I have sat and listened to them! I have defended myself against their attacks on me! They near as dammit made ME feel guilty for bfeeding!

Formula companies, in common with other business enterprises, are in it to make money. They do that by grabbing as much market share as possible. (And of course, by gaining maximum revenue whilst minimising costs) Is that really such a shock to anyone? A few of the postings seem to suggest they are almost altruistic enterprises, whose sole purpose is infant welfare .

Article below about marketing of formula in the US, although a lot is relevant to the UK.
Warning: don't read it if you don't want to believe that formula companies are evil in their practices. The opening paragraph is worded in extreme terms, and could be very upsetting for some.

lissielou · 15/04/2007 22:27

women have it crammed down their throats during their pgs how much better bf is for their child, the benefits for them, the importance for bonding, their immune systems etc, women are not ill-informed they are made to feel like failures for having to ff and pariahs for choosing to. and before you all say that you dont see that, go back to prev bf/ff threads and re-read. for every woman who feels alienated for bf in public there are ten who feel like failures for being unable to bf
