here's the logo

you tube clip here

sma site

way to get round the new advertising rules, which forbid them from saying "close to breastmilk" &c
anyone like to complain? I would like them, very much, to have to change their logo and slogan again. especially as they have clearly spent quite a bit of wonga on it.

im sorry but how do you expect these companies to market their products? "if you cant breastfeed and provide your child with the best possible start in life or just dont care enough to please choose our formula because it is very nice, obviously not as good as the natural milk that most mothers manage to provide for their children and nowhere near, but hey at least they wont starve"

would THAT be acceptable?

and when IS weaning ok? 6m? 12m? 4y?

zippitippitoes · 15/04/2007 22:11

not something i have seen

Cazee · 15/04/2007 22:12

Elasticwoman, I tell my son that Nestle are a bad company, in our house there are a lot of bad companies, so he doesn't ask any more! He is only 6, so I will explain more as he gets older.

hunkermunker · 15/04/2007 22:13

TIDF, am I scary then? Am I?

Cod, I will NOT stop talking about this because it MIGHT make some mythical woman feel guilty. I will support her, I will help her with her feeding if I can, but I will NOT not discuss something this important because it might hurt someone's feelings.

harpsichordcarrier · 15/04/2007 22:13

cod are you on a bf thread
lovely to see you.
but this thread isn't in any way about those less confident women. it is for people who might be interested in the dodgy advertising practices of a particular formula company, who might like to complain, if they agree with me that the logo and strapline is dodgy.
if they don't agree, or don't care, then that;s fine too. I don't think this thread hurts them and like hunker I don't think it is an answer to not oppose what we see as unethical practice on that basis.

OP posts:
Cazee · 15/04/2007 22:13

I don't think ff companies should be allowed to market at all, it should be available on perscription to all who need it.

Ponce · 15/04/2007 22:13

i knwo its nto
BUT when women who dont bf for whatever reason read this is mreel y makes em feel crap

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/04/2007 22:13

If you cant breastfeed, then, I feel the best way would be to go to your GP and get a prescription for unbranded, unmarketed formula milk, that you dont have to pay upwards of £6 a tin for.

Ponce · 15/04/2007 22:14

hunker
i am very very suprised at your stnace.

Ponce · 15/04/2007 22:14

really

and peopel wonder why peple dont breastfeed.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/04/2007 22:14

oh xposts cazee

harpsichordcarrier · 15/04/2007 22:15

lissielou, I don't give a flying fuck how they market their products, I would prefer they didn't. If someone needs formula, then it is perfectly easy to find it and use it. I don't really care about SMA's brand loyalty and I waste no tears on the terrible life of their marketing team

OP posts:
lissielou · 15/04/2007 22:15

cazee thats a disgraceful thing to say! we live in a democracy, people have the right to feed their child how they see fit without judgement. why should women be forced to bf if they dont want to?

hunkermunker · 15/04/2007 22:15

Don't understand you, Cod. Why are you surprised at me?

Ponce · 15/04/2007 22:15

and as for th mythical owman
where the mythcial woman who thinks bottle feeding is t eh same stuff that comes out of your norks

Greenleeves · 15/04/2007 22:16

Hello Ponce, nice to meet you

What's that....fishy smell??

Ponce · 15/04/2007 22:16

suprised you are so unsympatheic to some who care what toher peoepl think.

whther you wer breastfed or not is not on your cv

zippitippitoes · 15/04/2007 22:16

who pays for the formula milk development from this unbrabnded source?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/04/2007 22:16

Cod is just trying to get hunker to say "fuck off" again

hunkermunker · 15/04/2007 22:16

Lissie, I don't think Cazee was saying women would be forced to breastfeed? How do you get that from her post? She's talking about making formula free for those who need it.

I would do similar - and up support for women to bfeed massively (in an ideal world, which, I realise we don't live in).

Cazee · 15/04/2007 22:18

lissielou, we need to balance the right of a mother to feed how she chooses with the need to make sure they are allowed to make an informed choice. By at least involving a GP in the discussion, we can hope that all the info will be presented. Mothers should not have to look to ff marketing for advice.

Twinklemegan · 15/04/2007 22:18

I've been sitting on my hands for a while waiting to finish reading through the thread, but I can't wait any longer.

?36 per cent of new mums thought formula was as good as or nearly as good as breastmilk.? Thinking formula is ?nearly as good? as breastmilk is not the same as thinking it is ?nearly the same? as breastmilk.

There is also a big difference between thinking it?s as good as and thinking it?s nearly as good as, so to lump these two figures together is not particularly helpful. How do they define ?nearly as good?? It is certainly ?nearly as good? at nourishing the baby and keeping it alive.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/04/2007 22:18

Zippi - DD already gets formula milk on prescription because of her allergies. Her particular "brand" is £9 a tin. I'm pretty sure plenty of savings could be made in an unbranded formula.

Lissie, if a woman chooses to use formula, then, I'm sure she could choose to pay for it too if she wanted.

hunkermunker · 15/04/2007 22:19

I must go and resit English A-level because people read all sorts into my posts that's not there.

Where did I say I didn't care about the mythical woman, Cod? I've said I would support her, haven't I? But surely you can't think it's right not to discuss something just because it might make someone feel guilty? Can you? I might have to stalk you on style threads posting about how terrible you're making women feel who like crocs if you're not careful...

You know I'm not unsympathetic. Yet you're painting me like some kind of fucking monster!

zippitippitoes · 15/04/2007 22:19

national products don't have a very good history in any country....corruption and lack of investment short cuts
