I was boobing up my DS today, and I thought to myself "Who are all these wankers that hate that phrase?"

Perfectly good expression, IMO.

misdee · 21/10/2006 23:08

boobing up?

i prefer norking

AlfredAitchcock · 21/10/2006 23:08

i am one of those wankers, i think, although hate is perhaps too strong a word. what are the alternatives? (apart from breastfeeding and bitty, of course }

soapbox · 21/10/2006 23:12

'boobing up' not a phrase I have ever heard TBH!

AlfredAitchcock · 21/10/2006 23:14

(me neither but i took an instant dislike to it, actually to the 'up' more than the 'boobing' now that i think of it... very aggressive).

oops. too aggressive on the post button, methinks.

hunkermunker · 21/10/2006 23:17

I do say "I'll just boob DS2 to sleep, then I'll meet you at the pub" kind of sentences. Makes it fairly clear I can't come out any earlier because I'm "needed" But not said as a "oh and obviously I'm bragging about being able to do this, because I want to make you feel bad, because I hate you". Because that would be fucking odd.

Spidermama · 21/10/2006 23:20

I've never heard it before today. It's not my favourite expression but I wouldn't comment unless invited.

I prefer 'feeding' or 'breastfeeding' but then I'm boring.

misdee · 21/10/2006 23:20

i say, 'i'll be out after 8 as serena has a feed before bed' 'cant dh do that for you?' 'no his nipples arent very useful in that respect'

actually, why do men have nipples?

80sMum · 21/10/2006 23:22

Men have nipples because all foetuses are female until the y chromosome starts to produce testosterone - or something like that, I believe.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 21/10/2006 23:22

Ah, see now, men have nipples for a very good reason.

They are for twisting with each contraction during labour.

it sure would. which is why i stayed well clear of those threads today...

so if i have just stepped right into the middle of something that i do not understand then let me pull my size fives out of the mire and back away now...

VeniVidiVickiQV · 21/10/2006 23:23

Is "slipping him some boob juice" acceptable?

harpsichordcarrion · 21/10/2006 23:23

lol misdee
there was once a police cordon across our street and I said I needed to get home to feed my baby (dd2 was about 3 weeks old)
policeman said, is there noone there with her?!??
so I said - I have to feed her with my breasts

I think he would have let me do anything to sotp me saying the word breasts again

AlfredAitchcock · 21/10/2006 23:24

'it sure would, hunker', i meant to say.

misdee · 21/10/2006 23:24

lol

AlfredAitchcock · 21/10/2006 23:25

lol, harpsi.

harpsichordcarrion · 21/10/2006 23:25

sorry if this is upsetting to anyone...
aitch, why do you hate it btw?
(I am pretty neutral about it tbh, but I thought the original thread was just a bit .... oddly odd)

80sMum · 21/10/2006 23:26

Maybe you should have said you had to get home to do a bit of 'boobing up' harpsichord!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 21/10/2006 23:30

I must remember that one actually Harpsi...if anyone ever questions me about having to be somewhwere at a certain time....

I might just use that phrase FOREVER.

"Excuse me a moment, I just have to feed my toddler, with my breasts"

OP posts:
AlfredAitchcock · 21/10/2006 23:32

oh no, i don't hate it, don't feel strongly at all about it.

i suppose that i think of 'boobs' as a pejorative term for what are rather marvellous things, after all. and the 'up' is a bit full-on, too. makes me think of f*ing up.

nothing to do with my continuing (but waning) guttedness about the bfing not working out, i promise. i don't mind hearing about people feeding their babies at all, just don't like it when people tell my i'm feeding my child crap.

what slang terms are there for breastfeeding? it would be interesting if there aren't actually that many, when you consider how many slag terms there are for breasts themselves.

i really can't think of any, but god knows it doesn't indicate that as a society we are respectful of bfing.

AlfredAitchcock · 21/10/2006 23:33

slang terms, not slag terms! that's gotta be freudian...

hunkermunker · 21/10/2006 23:34

I might use it for other purposes too.

I just need to park in that parent and toddler space With My Breasts.

I need to eat these grapes as I go round the supermarket With My Breasts.

There's a good chance I have a tablecloth secreted about my person along With My Breasts.

harpsichordcarrion · 21/10/2006 23:34

well if you feed long enough your children get to call it by its own special name. round here it's called More or a Bit More
I also say "top up" e.g. I will just top her up before I go out.
but I don't know of any generally accepted terms.
