Welcome one and all Smile

Pinkponiesrock · 19/02/2013 02:52

For the first time in a few days I'm awake enough to post, you know it has been bad when 4 hours sleep makes you feel better!
Larle I hope things go alright leave baby larle with MIL. I do wonder what goes through my MIL's head at times, my own mother too sometimes but then I think that they raised DH, myself and our siblings and we turned out alright!

Jemima fab advice from stitch, that is what we do. I only use the cot for bedtime sleeping and once they go to bed that's it, no downstairs until morn.

Was going to write a big post but baby pink has fed quickly and seems asleep so going for transfer will be back to finished said long post in a second

MrsNPattz · 19/02/2013 03:17

First feed here - no sleeping through tonight!

Sorry you have had bad nights Pink! Hope you get a bit more sleep tonight.

Larle I am the same with my MIL - although it is getting easier to leave him with her. I always wanted him to cry when he went to her - how awful is that Sad but as I said it's getting better, and I'm sure it will for you too. Enjoy Pilates!

We are the same re dark and quiet room - he definitely knows the difference between night and day!

Poor baby Brain, hope he's better soon!

BrainGoneAwol · 19/02/2013 03:34

larle I sympathise too. I'm dreading the day that mil wants to look after babybrain. So far she has just done cuddles during visits. She's of the cio school so I'll be using every excuse in the book not to leave him with her! hopefully without upsetting her but aware it might just happen

Obviously up again here. Poor babybrain. Feeling a bit sorry for myself too as dp has a nasty cough and kept me awake just as I fell asleep after last waking Sad. Tonight is clearly going to be a No Sleep Night©.

Hope others are doing better...

larlemucker · 19/02/2013 04:08

Been up since 1.30, baby larle falls asleep on me and wakes up 10mins after transfer.
Just spilt class of cordial all over floor, really need sleep Hmm

funchum8am · 19/02/2013 04:10

Hi all, larle I hope mil turns out ok even if ok equals her never looking after baby again iyswim! My MIL was a qualified nanny back in the day and while a bit old skool I am happy leaving babyfunch with her for short periods. PIL have never sought to have her overnight or anything so I am lucky.

Terrible night here, waking every 45 mins and taking ages to settle (cc suspended at present in case it is teething) so back to the old days of hours of time awake in the night for me Sad . DH did the early shift though (i still ended up awake though, need to get some serious earplugs!)

mrsn I only had 2 teeth out at a time and was ok soonish after but a friend had hers done last year and was off work 2 weeks in total, I think.feeling exhausted too. Will ask her, I am off there on Weds. Hope you feel better soon.

jemima86 · 19/02/2013 04:52

Brain thanks for the tip wish I'd read it before now! Will look it up.

Awful night, again woke as I got into bed when should have slept another 2hrs, went down again at 12 up at 1 back down at 3 gave bottle hardly had anything, back up at 4, changed nappy, filled nappy as started feeding, still feeding yet to tackle nappy!

Seriously how on earth do you do nights on your own, this is only my second one alone! Huge respect to you all!!!

jemima86 · 19/02/2013 05:11

Must remember to refresh feed before posting! Thanks Stitch and Pink too! Will try the darkened room as we currently move into the front room when she wakes.
Where do you let them sleep in the day though if not in their bed, she is still in Moses basket so I bring it into the front room during the day. She will fall asleep anywhere I only move her to her basket if she's on me and I need to move or on the sofa and I need to leave the room.
She tends to feed around the same time most evenings about 7, she will then sleep for her 3 hours and feed again but then that's when she's wide awake.
She was cluster feeding from about 7-10 but she now just seems to be feeding longer on each feed which is better.

larlemucker · 19/02/2013 05:39

Don't have a choice jemima, I'm breast feeding. Dh back at work and shift this week means he starts at 6am so can't expect him to help although he wakes up everytime I get up and refuses to sleep in the spare room

MissingMyMarbles · 19/02/2013 06:26

Not a horrendous night. This is the fourth, and last feed, before we get up in probably about an hour. Haven't attempted transfer yet though. Seems to have a nasty cough developing.

My DH is working too. As I have to be up to bf, and I don't change nappy unless I have to anyway, we figured there was no point in us both being up, knackered. Plus, someone needs to be coherent enough to look after DD1 Wink and he is very good with herSmile

GoatBongosAnonymous · 19/02/2013 08:04

Not a horrendous night here either, in fact Kid managed to self-settle quite a few times. Demanded feeding twice them took 50 mls Hmm and still won't drink much this morning. Is very happy though, bouncing away in his jumperoo and giggling madly!
larle sympathies about your mil. Hope it works out. And re spilling things, a couple of nights ago I wanted to check that the milk in the bottle was warm enough so I unscrewed the teat and turned the whole thing upside down. Over my leg. Confused
Sorry about the crap night funch I hope this sorts itself out before Monday!
stitch yes it was cetraben we got given. Not good for us. Sad I also reluctantly had to use the hydrocortisone as he was ripping his head to shreds (looked like something from Friday the 13th). Cleared it up no end but need something long term so back to the drawing board. He does have an appointment with the allergy team in May too.
Hello everyone I have missed out (on phone)
Lovely sunny day here.

MrsNPattz · 19/02/2013 08:24

Up at half 7 here! Thanks Funch it would be interesting to know, I only had one out but I'm wondering if the anaesthetic is still effecting me.

WW here this morning, then Water Babies this afternoon - looking forward to mum seeing him.

Jemima - you get used to it! It will get easier Smile

BrainGoneAwol · 19/02/2013 09:18

jemima this is what I posted before for getting wind out (bottom obviously!)

  1. Diagonally opposite arm and leg stretch flat out and then brought in to crouch hand to toes (or knee) x5 (each side)
  2. Lift under the tummy into a mini crab arch x5
  3. Rub tummy clockwise x5
  4. Bottom cheek massage (with him still on his back, so lifting his bottom a tiny)
  5. Leg bicycling, getting full stretch x5 each leg
  6. Repeat 2.
  7. Tummy crunch, legs stretched straight and then both knees straight up to chest. Like a partial backward roll. At this point he usually blows out anything!
  8. Since and repeat until we've had two run through with nothing coming out.

It may or may not help of course but I've found it works 90% with babybrain now - though he is a bit older so perhaps it's easier these days.

Babybrain now mostly naps in his bed or buggy if we are out. Sometimes he sleeps on me if he's not had good naps in the day so far and otherwise would be exhausted. I think etting them used to sleeping in their bed/moses basket when they are young and will sleep anywhere is a good idea. Using a worn tshirt like a sheet will help her settle.

It really does get easier. Although the waking is still really hard, not having to do changes of all their clothes as well when they poo everywhere certainly helps.

Sleep improved for us. Another dose of calpol and babybrain slept from 4.30 til 7.30. Still trying to get through to the dr. I do hate the way they are always engaged these days. How are you supposed to make appointments?! Angry

Sorry for the bad nights larle and funch. Hope you get some rest today.

StitchAteMySleep · 19/02/2013 09:23

Goat :( it might be worth trying Aveeno, you can buy it, but if you push them they will do it on prescription. We recommended it to a friend whose baby has eczema that was raw and cracking over their whole body recently. Saw her the other day and it has improved a lot. I guess it will be a case of trial and error with the emollients to find one that works for you.

My DH works too and walks around 30 miles a day for his job, so needs his sleep. I breastfeed so not much point in him being up. I did make him go to dd1 when she was screaming because of a nightmare at 4am this morning, but only because I was already feeding Stitch.

:( Brain, both of my two teethed their first teeth back to back, but get him checked for ears, poor mite.

Jemima once the pattern has settled you can put them in their cot, but using the moses basket at first is a good idea as you can bring put it wherever you are.

Sorry to hear of bad night funch

Larle have you got a sling? I have slept sitting up with Stitch in the sling before when desperate for sleep.

My MIL sadly passed away when I was 3 months pregnant with Stitch. I would have valued her input as a mother of 5 and grandmother of 14, she was brilliant at dd1's birth (my mum couldn't get there in time).

It is my own mother I have to keep a check on. When I was still in hospital after having Stitch she said she was taking dd1 to a local park and would bring her back for lunch. DH had lunch all ready, she didn't turn up until 3pm with a hungry child and didn't answer her phone or contact us, we were worried. Turns out she had gone somewhere completely different in her car and got stuck in traffic. Words were had.

MrsNPattz · 19/02/2013 10:13

I lost 1.5lb Smile

Sorry about your MIL Stitch Sad

Pinkponiesrock · 19/02/2013 10:19

We never made it back as transfer succeeded :) sorry for everyone having bad nights, I feel your pain! The sun is out oop north so feeling very productive this morning, Baby pink was outside in buggy by 8.20! Walked DS1 to the bus, put all the ponies outside, cleaned out stable, hung out washing, go me! I love it when you get loads done first thing so if the rest of day goes tits up, pardon the pun, you still feel like you have done something for your day. DS2 off to rising 3's for the morn so peace for me and baby pink.

heff your little one has my absolute sympathy, I have majorly sensitive skin and it is just awful. Will he keep socks on over his hands, even if you can get then on once he is asleep, although sometimes you daren't touch them in case they wake, as I used to do a lot of damage in my sleep as a child. Hope you get some answers from the allergy tests.

brain hope you get an appointment today and baby brain feels better soon.

Susie has OH recovered from his red wine incident?

mrsn hope you have a good day at WW and swimming, I'm still trying to work up the courage to go to WW!

Good morning to everyone else and hope you are all getting some sunshine too :) Sunshine makes me feel ever so cheery tralalala!!

Ameybee · 19/02/2013 13:03

Hi everyone. We have a tooth! Found it very exciting! However tooth 2 is also on the way so last night was bloody awful! Think ill give ibuprofen tonight before bed. Anyway, he is very cheery so that's good!

Sunny up here too! It does make you feel good! Baby bee asleep in buggy so I'm sat in the sunshine! X

larlemucker · 19/02/2013 13:09

Missed Pilates in the end as so tired so baby larle didn't go to MILs, managed to catch up on some sleep this morn. Hoping to get out in the sun this aft.

ChilliBanana · 19/02/2013 17:44

Congrats on the tooth amey! Hope the next one slithers through painlessly.
Also congrats on the loss mrsn Smile
larle I would have cried over the spilt cordial, glad you got to catch up on some sleep.
Wow pink, I bow down before your industriousness!
brain I hope you get to the doctors, baby chilli's cough has started improving slightly just before I'd decided to go to the docs, so got to miss the fun of fighting for an appointment.

Another awful not last night, he kept waking crying, not sure if it's teeth, something he ate, something I ate Sad. Luckily DH was off so took him for an hour this morning so I could feel part way human. I am absolutely dreading going back to work feeling like this but he won't drink much of the neocate formula so I can't hand him over to DH for the night just yet. Will have to make an extra effort to express, but then I worry that something I've eaten is hurting his stomach because he's gone back to pooing after almost every feed. I also know lack of sleep is making everything seem a thousand times worse than it really is and I'm sure it will all wok out or I'll go insane

Thanks all for the reusable nappy info, I've started looking but I'm too tired to make a decision Wink

Macaroons · 19/02/2013 20:45

Sorry for not posting for ages as baby mac usually sleeps quite well between 12 and 4-5. Then when he wakes up needing a feed at 4-5 I put him by my side and feed him while I try to fall back to sleep. Usually both of us fall asleep and dont get up till 7-8.

Hope all is well, there's lots to catch up, can't believe there are 619 posts in this thread already! will take me a while.

happy that the teeth came out amey! How old is your little one?

Hope everyone's baby will learn to sleep through the night soon. Baby mac is kind of going backwards. Before he slept till almost 6. Now he gets up at 4-ish, not sure if that's because he's hungry? Have started him on solid hope that will help.

MrsNPattz · 19/02/2013 20:59

Bed time here - I'm glad as I'm feeling crap emotionally! I hope Water Babies will bring a full night but we shall see!

Hi Macaroons - those nights sound brilliant!

Night night all xx

MrsNPattz · 19/02/2013 21:30
