And this thread is by about banning formula or making anybody feel like freaks, it's about formula companies profiteering by what so many babies depend to survive on! In other countries it's even more expensive that it is here and marketing only adds to that. Can you actually read what is being discussed or are you thinking all the people that want to help with breastfeeding are in a weird formula banning mode?

metalelephant · 10/06/2012 09:43

Isn't about banning

Finallygotaroundtoit · 10/06/2012 09:52

Blackswan,
where have you seen Tiktok

'want formula - food for babies - to be underground or non-existant.'
or
'advising women who are struggling to feed babies who are dropping off the weight charts to continue exclusively breastfeeding them.'

Both statements are so ridiculously wrong I think you must have made them up but I'd love to see if pumpkin can back you up Grin

Ps if breastmilk was unrealistic for 'a lot' of women, humans wouldn't have survived

EauRouge · 10/06/2012 10:01

Blackswan, I'm sorry if you've had bad experiences but attacking Tiktok is not on. She is extremely knowledgeable about breastfeeding, more so than anyone else that posts on this forum, and she takes a lot of her free time out to help people.

I've been posting on here for 3 years and I have never seen her post anything remotely dodgy.

metalelephant · 10/06/2012 10:13

When it looked like breastfeeding wasn't working out for us and I was in despair, tiktok gave me a lot of courage and reassured me that I can have just as happy and bonding an experience formula feeding my baby; that really helped me emotionally and even though we did manage to go back to exclusively breastfeeding I would never judge a mum that formula feeds.

Tiktok is a gem.

Pastabee · 10/06/2012 10:28

There are countless examples of tiktok saying she can't advise continuing to EBF without full background including weight and age presumably because she knows there are circumstances where it isn't the correct advice.

I also recall reading that she is qualified although given this is a forum where people express opinions this is surely a bonus rather than a requirement as has been suggested?

TruthSweet · 10/06/2012 11:21

Agree- I have read many a thread when a baby is losing weight/failing to thrive/serious questions about milk supply and I have never seen tiktok saying 'now don't give formula it's evil' Hmm Hmm - I have however seen her reassuring mums that in certain circumstances formula IS necessary to get baby healthy and well and that it doesn't have to be a permanent feature in baby's diet but to cross that bridge when baby is well (plus giving information on how to increase supply/protect supply while supplements are being given).

I have also seen her give reassurance to mums who will not be able to go back to bfing that they can still keep a close and loving feeding relationship 'even' if they are ffing not bfing as they wanted to and giving them practical suggestions for ways to maintain that closeness (which they are free to implement or not).

Not sure why one of the most empathetic and knowledgeable posters on this forum is getting it in the neck Confused

showtunesgirl · 10/06/2012 13:13

Woah, what the hell? Tiktok has helped so many women on here including myself.

I have never ever seen her advocate BF over formula if the health of the mum or baby would benefit from formula.

I haven't seen the posts which people are responding to as they have been removed. I have not been on line much this weekend. Thanks for the posters who have responded and explained that I never, ever disparage formula feeding or formula feeders and I never ever tell a mother to continue breastfeeding no matter what - a talkboard can never have the full facts, anyway. In fact I often point out that formula feeding is also part of a loving relationship between a mother and baby.

Would it be too much to hope that the poster(s) who have misrepresented me come back and apologise?

tiktok · 10/06/2012 15:28

Is someone saying I want formula to go underground or be banned??????

Not at all. Formula - as I have said here a zillion times - should be cheap, easily available, not on prescription (except for the very specialist stuff for the babies who need it because of serious allergies etc), and with full information on safe preparation and use. Mothers who use it need non-commercial info from informed people whose main interest is nutrition and health, not their profits.

They don't need 'free' cuddly toys, 'free' roadshows, fridge magnets with brand names on them, and whatever else is the latest 'gift'.

pumpkinsweetie · 10/06/2012 15:31

Very sorry tiktok, didn't mean to cause you any upset.
I should have read your threads properly before agreeing with BlackSwan.
Its sounds as though you are doing a truly amazing job by help the bf community, sometimes i should read things before i comment Blush.

pumpkinsweetie · 10/06/2012 15:31

'helping' not help

tiktok · 10/06/2012 16:02

OK, pumpkin.

tiktok · 11/06/2012 09:03

Bumping in case blackswan might want to apologise for the ridiculous and untrue things she said about me......
