How many books do you read in a year?

I saw someone on fb post at new year that their resolution was to read 12 books this year which got me wondering how many I get through a year. I have started writing them down out of curiosity, to see.
I'm guessing it'll be around 60 or so....probably because I don't have kids yet so I have much more time on my hands 😄
I'm curious to know how much my fellow book lovers read!

Usually around 50-60, but I don’t have children of my own and DSD is almost 18 now so my free time has increased and so I’m able to read more now. I’m in a book club too, so that gives me at least one a month. I’ve always enjoyed reading though.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 12/02/2024 07:18

I've almost finished my 13th book. Last year I read 71

Hoglet70 · 12/02/2024 07:18

If you join Goodreads you can do the yearly challenge. I challenged myself to 75 this year but am already 8 ahead of schedule. The trouble is I end up reading physical books and forget to log them whereas with my Kindle it's all linked.

AuntieMarys · 12/02/2024 07:23

75 last year. On my 20th of the year. I'm aiming for 100

TheNameIsDickDarlington · 12/02/2024 07:37

I'm doing the goodreads challenge with the aim of reading 30 this year. I'm on book number 8 now so doing well.

Before I had children I was an avid reader probably read about 100 books a year. Now with 3 Small children I feel like I never get time to myself so am trying to make a conscious effort to do something just for me.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 12/02/2024 08:00

Oh and for context sorry I have a 10 year old and go out to hobbies in the week but every spare moment I get I read and go to bed early to read as well. She likes to chat to her friends and play roblox quite a bit so I get more time these days 😂. The other weekend DH was out and she was busy so I read an entire novel lol

Jemimapuddleduk · 12/02/2024 08:14

Around 30

Londonnight · 12/02/2024 08:17

I read constantly and can easily get through 3 books a week. During lockdown in 2020 I was furloughed for 6 months and read 200 books in that time!

onemoremile · 12/02/2024 08:20

Ive done the Goodreads challenge for a few years now and generally read at least 100 books a year. I have always read a lot and now have teenagers so it is much easier to fit in!

BreakfastAtMimis · 12/02/2024 08:23

Last year I read 30 books, which is a slow reading year for me. This year so far I've read 6 so I'm hopeful I'll do better than last year.

Gottoloveatakeaway · 12/02/2024 08:43

I have insomnia and a job that involves lots of train travel and hotel stays, so average 250+

Chasingsquirrels · 12/02/2024 18:21

Mine are all on kindle and you can check via reading insights.
2019: 39
2020: 68
2021: 114
2022: 100
2023: 90
2024: 14 to date

I read a lot more again now my kids are older (late teen and young adult).

RollOnSpringDays · 12/02/2024 18:24

I read average of around 15. Would be more but I took up crochet and spend time doing that instead. Only really read when I go to bed now.

Lizzieregina · 12/02/2024 18:30

Usually around 40.
I do the Goodreads challenge but my current book is 800 pages and taking forever so I’ll be “behind schedule” when I check in again.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 12/02/2024 18:30

2022 i read 172

but i was doing it to see if i could beat the previous year and 2020 when all i had to do was read

i found that i was reading books just to read, i wasn’t reading books i wanted to read because i know they would take me longer

so last year even though i noted down what i read i didn’t add them up 😀

i also have a job three days a week during which i can’t read (unlike my last job) so that has slowed me down. I probably read 2/3 books a week

ZebraPensAreLife · 12/02/2024 18:37

From my Kindle and Libby apps, which make up the bulk of my reading:

2023 - 374
2022 - 331
2021 - 450
2020 - 300
2019 - 856 (but actually more than that as this was the year I did the Goodreads reading challenge and got to 1,000 books)

I’m on 36 so far this year.

Natsku · 12/02/2024 18:40

I tracked for the first time last year, I read 68 books, and I read about the same as I normally do so its probably average for me.

LindorDoubleChoc · 12/02/2024 18:40

I read very slowly because I don't like to miss a word, and I have other hobbies which take up a lot of time, and an almost full-time job.

I like to read fairly dense books, often non-fiction, so I am for 2 per month - 26 ish.

OhVienna24 · 12/02/2024 18:43

25-30
so about one a fortnight

LindorDoubleChoc · 12/02/2024 18:43

I would never challenge myself to read more books just for the sake of it. I read most days but not every day. I fall asleep quite quickly and I don't often just sit and read, don't have the time for it. I don't watch a lot of TV either before anyone says!

Hijinks75 · 12/02/2024 18:45

Probably around 15, I’d be interested to know how many books people start but don’t finish as it’s just not for them, since using a kindle I find it’s far more than when I bought actual books, maybe because I’m more inclined to try unknown authors when the cost is nothing or negligible

EleMar · 12/02/2024 18:46

I read around 25-30 books per year - no children but long hours as a corporate lawyer. It's inspiring to see lots of Mumsnetters reading so many books!!

Wictc · 12/02/2024 18:47

I read 2/3 books a week. I work full time and have a toddler, but read most nights before bed, any commuting (have the kindle app on my phone so I’ve always got a book on me), and any downtime at home. I have kindle unlimited so can churn through a lot, but find it difficult to search for good ones and the same ones keep popping up. Wish there was a ‘I don’t want to read this, please stop showing me’ button!

BlueFairyBugsBooks · 12/02/2024 18:47

2021 - 6
2022 - 35ish
2023 - 87

2024 so far - 38.

Bookwormmumuk · 12/02/2024 18:49

Mine changes year to year last year I read 98 this year though as I'm due a baby I'm only aiming to read 50 as my free time will be massively reduced.
