@sunshinemango, I'm white British and I'm ashamed of the way the narrative has been seized whilst many of us who don't agree, including me, have stood by, shaking our heads and refusing to believe that the racists could rise again. I saw the other threads and I'm appalled.

I’m white. There is an argument for saying yes support, but you don’t need to talk about it on Black MNers, a space for Black MNers to share. If a lack of thanks stops you supporting, you weren’t supporting anyway.

He was just picked I assume because of the colour of his skin. As they already had the original suspect arrested, he was a victim who probably needed care not custody. So disappointing but not surprising.

I've said to racists in RL before now that technically I'm not really British as my Grandad is from Ukraine and my grandma is Spanish. And it always comes back to skin colour doesn't it 🤦‍♀️ ( I'm white )

I have half Mexican cousins who were born in the UK and they've been racially abused since children as they have darker skin and hair

One of the eye witnesses was quoted as saying “they are stabbing people” as he was running away” which probably contributed to the feeling there was more than one person. But yes, a lot of assumptions made based on skin colour.

And this is why the police don’t release names before they charge someone as I tried to explain on the other thread to someone who was saying it was suspicious that the names had not been released.

The levels of racism in the UK today are the worst I’ve seen since the 1960s and it’s horrible. I was trying to get across that most people don’ t feel that way. Clumsily, maybe.
