How fast they went from blaming the ‘boats' to just outright racism against Black people. I’m now genuinely done on this site.

Don't you think all mass murder or, in this case, mass attempted murder, of innocent people in a public place should be deemed as terrorist. What has colour got to do with it?

No, terrorism has a specific meaning. It’s not just any violent crime. It has to have an ideological purpose behind it.

At this point no one really knows why or how this incident started. All the current eye witness reports are from people who were in other carriages and heard panicked people shouting about stabbings.

Presumably because the people who witnessed the stabbings are either injured or traumatized by what they saw so are not talking to the press.

There are eye witness reports of one man exiting the train with a knife and police reports that he was tasered.

Two men have been arrested but we don’t know if both had knives, what their relationship is to each other etc.

As a white British woman I’ve been really disgusted by the racism and bigotry on the threads in question. I do believe there are far more good people than bad in this country (and on this site), but the bad have been loud and proud today.

I started reading the thread this morning when there were only about 150 posts and gave up as it was absolutely disgusting. Lots of lazy, blatantly racist assumptions and accusations.

The racism on these threads has been absolutely shocking to me.

As you can imagine it’s even worse on Twitter where people are just making up ‘eye witness’ reports.

That thread should be deleted and a lot of the posters banned. Pure racism and bigotry but Mumsnet is pretty OK with that.

I’m white and agree that the blatant, unchecked racism on this site is appalling. I’ve seen people banned for calling it out.

If the stabbings had been carried out by white men? Then the threads on mumsnet will be full of condolences and message to the victims, how their hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to their families and loved ones involved. There will be a few comments about what possibly drove them to commit the crimes, mental health issues may come up a few times.

Do not pretend colour or religion does not affect the way white people react to atrocities.

Completely vile threads - foaming at the mouths, hoping and praying it’s a ‘boater’, Muslim, brown person who committed the crime to fuel their hatred and racism. Because white people never commit crimes and if they did it would be okay because ‘they’re white British’.

It's awful but I'm not even bothering to report these threads as @mnhq do jackshit about them. (See also the use of the awful dehumanising word "illegals" to refer to humans, which apparently doesnt contravene the Talk policies.) We're just told that the threads encourage discussion and to feel free to challenge and report comments. Not sure about anyone else, but if I was to go through MN with a fine tooth comb and report all racist comments then I'd be here till 2027!

The racism on Mumsnet has been escalating significantly the last couple of years, what’s happening on those threads today was depressingly predictable. It’s beyond me why MNHQ are ok with it all.

I am shocked but also not. My grandparents came here to prop up the NHS were actively recruited. But yet still I am not a true Brit!! Makes me sick. Its not like white extremists haven't done many attacks, even the MP that was killed he was white British. We are far too easy to scape goat! Racism is lurking in the fabrics of our "great British" society.
Turns out now there is only 1 suspect, but the seeds are already sown.

I was about to pose my situation. I am a first generation white person born to British parents in South Africa. I’ve lived here all my life and I consider my self South African.

There are some black South Africans who tell us to go back to where we came from from because my skin isn’t black but when I read these comments on MN I’m not sure I could rely on my British heritage to claim that either since nationality seems such a fractious issue. Except my skin is white so maybe that would appease a bunch of people regardless of where I was born. I often wonder what the world we live in would look like if we did a hard reset and all went back to where we came from. What an impossible task though considering our lineage and dna now crosses vast cultures and ethnicities.
