How fast they went from blaming the ‘boats' to just outright racism against Black people. I’m now genuinely done on this site.

It’s disgusting.

I started reading one this morning and stopped. It’s quite scary how open racism is being readily accepted.

I did, it's disgusting. It went from "if this turns out to be an immigrant we should close the borders" to "well they're British but the [racist] point still stands".

MN needs to be far more pro active and take these threads down, discussion yes but this stuff, if said in most work places, would lead to disciplinary action.

Far beyond "Free speech"

They are also arguing what makes someone truly british. Doesn’t matter if we, our parents, grandparents were born here. We’re not white so not a true brit

So if its a black person we must blame all the black people band wagon.
Of theyre muslim, we must blame the whole Muslim population band wagon.
Very sad.

I am white British and am equally appalled by the comments I’ve read and some others I’ve seen on social media. The assumptions made about the attacker(s) before any details were given beggar belief. Some of them genuinely made me feel that they wanted the perpetrators to be non-British to fuel and justify their hatred. Genuinely worrying times and I completely agree that MN needs to be significantly more proactive in taking posts down.

One thread got filled up, there is a second one going, that is currently close to a 1000.

No I am not reading any of those threads, as experience has taught me, that I need to protect my mental health, and seeing the naked racism on threads like that, does nothing positive for me. MN has a habit of ignoring the blatant racism that goes on, practically daily on its site. There is no safe space here.

Yes, this. Protect yourself mentally. It is not good to digest such hate. It is ongoing, and becoming so overt, as to be quite worrying, imo.

I’m white, a native English speaker, but only British by birth. The only member of my family with a British passport. I’m sure they would say “Oh, we don’t mean you!” It’s depressing and shaming. I’m sorry.

It's outright racism and Mumsnet management should be ashamed of themselves allowing the site to become a cesspit of hate speech.

@sunshinemango I do feel social media has got completely out of hand, where people, feel they say anything, with no repercussions.Some very sad pathetic individuals spreading misinformation and
hate.I’ve also seen many threads now, discriminating against disabled people, these threads are, very upsetting, full of misinformation.
Agree @jasflowers MN needs to be acting swiftly with these threads and taking them down, not leaving them up, when it’s obvious it’s causing distress to others and are clearly prejudicial.These posters are hiding behind their anonymity, it’s so wrong.

I saw your thread and I'm white. I wanted to comment that I completely agee.

Misinformation is the core problem. Using that Misinformation against any one group is even worse. No one group of people are responsible for the mess the current government and the home office are making . Yet, they are managing to fuel the 'them against us' rhetoric. In my area, a 15 year old killed a man by punching him so hard in the head, the man died. That 'boy' is now 17 and has only just been charged with manslaughter. Is it all over the papers? No. Did his mum get given a new house and a new life? Yes.. they are an all white, middle class family. There has been much talk about the boys mental health.
We all break the same bones, we all bleed red.

As am I - in fact I don't even hold a British passport anymore. I'm still pretty sure they would decide they don't mean me. Let's call it out for what it is. I apologise for jumping on a board not meant for me but would like to add my voice to calling out Mumsnet for allowing threads like that to run. They are very fast to deal with threads far less objectionable than this one.

Completely agree, I’m white. I do understand why they have clearly stated British and the ethnicity, it was due to what happened in Southport, but unfortunately the racists take this and as always turn it into a racist situation. I hate racism in any direction, so horrible!

I completely agree. I'm white British and am fucking horrified by what's been allowed to stand. The threads need taking down, the usual posters are goading each other into more and more revolting rhetoric.

I was trying to counter it this morning, then got too upset and had to stop. No idea why I came back actually, it's not good for mental health to think it's representative of society.

I'm really sorry, I'm white and I would never normally intrude into this topic, but I've just had a look at one of the Huntingdon threads and it is indeed horrific. I've posted there but it will do fuck-all good given how rabid so many posters are on that thread.
It must be frightening and infuriating for Black mumsnetters to read.
