Thanks all! Meant to say hope the moles are alright Nypmh and that the scan goes well vikks

Elsa123 · 23/08/2010 13:17

A**e the M&P cotbed is now not available until 20 Oct. I'm due before that and want to have all this squared away. Although of course the baby will probably loathe whatever I get and only sleep when on a shoulder....

Roo- I had the same thought when the stuff I'd got from Asda said up to 9lbs and the label inside said 9lbs. I was a bit concerned as I found out the other Friday that the baby is small and likely to weigh around the 6lb something mark- then I thought, hell, it'll just look cute in big stuff and scans are notoriously inaccurate anyway!

Good luck with your scan Vikks!

Hermya321 · 23/08/2010 14:22

Vikks Good luck with the scan.

Elsa What type are you looking for? Have you tried John Lewis at all (sorry if you have), we got a Rachel Cotbed from there whih was very reasonable and it's available in white and dark wood.

I've been upto maternity unit today, I've had really bad headaches and pain in my ribs. They've checked me over and everything seems to be ok, just waiting on some bloods to be done. In the meanwhile they've sent me home to rest. Oh well, beats doing housework.

shieldbug · 23/08/2010 14:32

hermya hope you are feeling better soon. Could the headaches be due to lack of sleep or hasn't that been too bad recently? Glad there wasn't anything wrong. Have a good rest.

Hermya321 · 23/08/2010 14:55

Shieldbug To be honest, that was my first thought and I wasn't going to do anything. But I was speaking to someone on another thread who mentioned about rib pain in the centre of the chest and headaches together being symptons of Pre-eclampsia. So I gave the midwife a call and she said to go in and get checked over just to be sure. The hospital is only a few minutes away so it wasn't that bad.

RooBear · 23/08/2010 15:16

I've just returned from the MW. she said there was protein in my sample but then didn't say anything else just that they'd check next time, is that normal?
on another note has anyone been to Babies R Us? we are planning to go there on sat for a 'big shop'

shieldbug · 23/08/2010 15:26

hermya It's always a good idea to get things checked out in case. Thank goodness it wasn't pre-eclampsia.
Roo I think protein in the urine is a possible sign of a uti but if they are waiting until next time to check it's probably present in very low quantities and so not to worry about. Not been to babies r us yet, but my sil did a fair amount of shopping there and seemed pleased with it.

nymphadora · 23/08/2010 15:26

Roo- I have had a little protein everytime, they just send it off to check for infection and it always comes back fine. So unless its a lot I don't think its significant.
Re babies r us ,sorry but we went when we went to Ikea and basically laughed our way round at the prices and what crap you could buy , though we also did the same in mothercare Blush Babies r us did have a V cool high chair but was v expensive & impractical!

Thanks Hermya I have looked at JL but i can't remember the Rachel cotbed, so I shall look again Smile.

The nursery is white and the wardrobe doors walnut- so I was hoping for something darker to go with the doors (sad I know) and failing that, white.

I hope your headache and rib pain starts to feel better. Have you taken any paracetamol?

Roo we went to babiesrus at the weekend and in Lincoln, it was a small corner within toysrus, not that helpful. If I'm honest (and displaying my snobby tendencies) I did not like the shop as it was full of threatening signs about theft, bag searches etc. Although that could of course just be Lincoln Grin.

BackAgain · 23/08/2010 16:00

Hi elsa don't know what your budget is, but we have just bought a lovely bedroom range from aspace for DD and I see they do nursery ranges too www.aspace.co.uk/nursery/shop/nursery_ranges

They were really quick at delivery and were very helpful. Might be worth a look.

Will catch up with posts and post properly later

Hermya321 · 23/08/2010 16:14

Elsa I've taken some paracetamol and if anything its gotten worse. I'm going to wait and see what the midwife says when she calls back. Shouldn't be too long now. Here is the link to the Cotbed we got from JL in case you wanted a nosy.

I also got my car back from my super lovely garage, exhaust was sort of bent so they fixed it for me at a very reasonable price. Was quite pleased with that one.

RooBear · 23/08/2010 16:20

damn I thought it was supposed to be quite good, there's not a lot of choice in north yorkshire! and I've already spent a fortune at mamas and papas Smile

Elsa123 · 23/08/2010 16:38

Thanks Hermya I've just looked at it and I'm after one with solid ends (fussy I know Wink).

Backagain- it just so happens I saw that website today and I really like the dark wood/white modern type ones but they are pricey. I've also found a solid walnut one with matching dresser that I really like but it is dead expensive and I'm rather anxious about spending money at the moment- but my DH isn't!

Roo don't let me put you off! How far North in North Yorks are you? I've heard that the Newcastle ToysRUs is really big.

RooBear · 23/08/2010 16:45

I'm very north, on the edge of the dales so newcastle isn't too far, I was going to one in teeside park which has a separate store attached to toys r us so it might be ok?

Vikks · 23/08/2010 16:47

Thanks for all the well wishes. Harry is very healthy and just a bit bigger than your average baby, nothing at all to worry about! The consultant said that I had a very difficult tummy to measure accurately because my muscles were so strong. I think I?m gonna be needing them to get him out if he?s gonna be a whopper! ShockWink

SeaShells Enjoy finishing, you sound like you?ve got plenty to do though, take some time to relax.
I?m on the iron as well, not the most pleasant affects downstairs IYKWIM!Blush

Nymph Funny you should mention your mole. I?m going to the docs on Friday about one, could it just be PG hormones? All my other ones look darker too. I hope it goes well for you.

Hermya Hope you?re feeling better. x

Roo I?ve had protein a few times too and they didn?t seem too worried, a trace amount must be normal.
DH and I had a good shop in Babies R Us, and are really pleased with what we got. We bought all Harry?s bedding from there and it?s very cute and was reasonably priced. Enjoy your shopping!

Vik x (32+5!)

nymphadora · 23/08/2010 16:56

Vikks-hormones do make things change but cos of the dodgy one last time & this in the sane place I've got to be more careful. Spent 5 years under hospital last time & nothing changed. I have a lot thathave changed but non look Particularly rough around the edges/ blacker which were what I was told to look for. It's the position rather than what they look like IYSWIM

elsa forgot to say when I requested a catalogue from aspace it came through with a 15% off code. They are pricey though - it ended up at over £1000 for DD's bedroom range (bed, mattress, wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside table) but we think it will last her into her teens as very solid and we went for a very simple design.

DD was in her cot/cot bed for 3 years and it should last the same for this one too - so 6 years use hopefully (that's if we haven't lost any of the bits to turn it back into a cot!). The cot bed is a mamas and papas one - but bought cheaper from the Glasgow Pram Centre

floozietoozie · 23/08/2010 21:21

Elsa, we've got a mamas and papas cotbed which is third-hand, ds is 6th child in it, and it's in very good condition so if you were thinking of having a few I would recommend them. I know you probably just want everything ready but if you're using a Moses basket you won't need the cot for months anyway. We didn't get ours until ds was ready to move into it at eight months (six adjusted).

Happy shopping Roo.

Last day at work tomorrow. I felt a bit ambivalent about leaving today bizarrely. I'm not sure if it's because it's making it more real or what and because we are having a difficult time with ds at the moment I'm getting more daunted at the prospect of dealing with him and a newborn if he doesn't settle down before the birth.

I'm on the phone and can't remember the rest of your posts sorry.

ILoveGregoryHouse · 23/08/2010 21:32

Hi. Elsa I agree with floozie about waiting ESP if you're anxious about spending. Floozie, did you get any help on your ds post? I read it but was stumped. Sorry you are having such a difficult time. Everything is so much harder now isn't it? I don't know how I'll survive the next 9 weeks or so but will just have to keep calm and carry on.

AbFabT · 23/08/2010 21:56

Hi All, and welcome back to those who've been away!

Roo, I've been to BabiesRUs and found much of it decent - competitive prices on certain things, however, on other things, they are not competitive at all - e.g. that swing/bouncer thing I had my eye on, MUCH more expensive at BabiesRUs, but I think things like muslins and blankets etc were well-priced. Hth!

Had my 34-week check. All fine, and baby is head down, though the m/w did say my baby could well somersault back to head up, so not necessarily settled, but felt encouraging.

And I had my first stranger belly touch today! Well, she was an old lady at my gym, I'd seen her last week in the pool and she said hello then, now today she stroked my tummy and said 'still in there then?'. Bless her, I didn't really mind, she's harmless and sweet.

Hermya321 · 24/08/2010 07:36

Morning all!!

My little one has discovered the value of a good kick in the ribs when HE wants some more room to play about when I'm in bed. He's not even born and he's already trying to kick me out of my own bed Hmm. Really, he could have waited until he was born.

Abfab Awwww that lady sounds really sweet. I haven't had a randomer touch my belly yet, not that I mind at all.

shieldbug · 24/08/2010 09:19

hermya how are you feeling? Have the headaches gone? Your LO obviously has a sense of humour already!

I had the loveliest thing happen this morning. There's a lady I say hello to sometimes on the train, but didn't even know her name. This morning she gives me a beautiful hand-knitted white cardigan for sproglet out of the blue. How kind is that? I was so touched. I've still got a smile thinking about it.

Elsa123 · 24/08/2010 09:41

How lovely Shieldbug! Hope you're feeling better Hermya.

ILGH and Floozie- good points but 8 months down the line I will have even less money! Also, I have a lovely, but totally empty nursery and I'd like to have some furniture in it. But I get your point and will try to relax about it, because it won't matter for the first few weeks anyway.

I actually slept pretty well last night straight through from 0200-0650 so I actually have some energy! It feels such a shame ot be wasting it at work.....

Congratulations on your scan Vikks you're in the same boat as me but the other way round iyswim. I'm 32+5 today with smaller than average baby! It will be very interesting to see what sizes they both are as scans are meant to be not totally reliable indicators of size.

Gosh AbfabT 34 weeks! I'd forgotten how far along you were.

Tyson86 · 24/08/2010 10:52

My MW is an hour late so far! I have waited 6 weeks for this app and it is a different woman coming round and she's late. :(

shieldbug · 24/08/2010 11:02

tyson how frustrating for you. Hope she turns up soon and the meeting goes well. fingers crossed for all being on for a home birth.
