Blimey!
Gonna take me ages to catch up - so sorry in advance for yet another epic post! Been away at Green Man Festival - DP was working on a stage there so I booked a B'n'B for me and the DD (a LOVELY b'n'b which kept me sane - in the middle of nowhere & just room for one family to stay - the owners were grandparents and became surrogate grandparents to DD, taking her to feed the horses, pick blackberries, feed the birds, etc etc).
Was seriously pouring down and muddy by the first evening we got on site - can promise that it's NOT advisable terrain for preggy ladies holding excitable 4-year-olds who are into Peppa Pig! Ha ha ha ha!!! By Sunday it had dried out a bit thank goodness.
I totally did too much walking there - as I was expecting - so by 7pm each day I was a wreck physically. But it was such a lovely atmosphere and although I knew it would be child friendly it really took me aback just how many kids & families with babies etc etc there were - kids' area was superb as well. Highly recommend it for any of you who like going to festivals as a good one for next year. Only downer really was the 7 hour drive on my own (with DD) there and back - knackering.
My scan revealed that my placenta is still low (and baby is fine, on the big side & still hiding his/her face behind hands). So another scan in a couple of weeks (week 36) which is also when the obstetrician will give me the low down on what they think to my VBAC birth plan... Feels weird it all being so up in the air. It is anyway, for most of us, but I wish I knew whether I HAD to have a caesarean or not, so I could plan my life a bit better!
Moonstorm & Seashells
Hei Hei! I was born in Ã…lesund, then moved to Oslo when 4, then to England when 10. Rest of family have moved back so have no Norwegian family here now. My big brother and sister are actually from Bergen! DP is English.
Yes, my DD is already bilingual - although she stopped talking Norwegian for a while around the age of 3 (but understood everything). I think she was having too much fun building a rich English vocab at nursery etc. She's coming back into it now as I think she's figuring out it's quite cool having another language & perhaps her English 'base' is now complete and so her brain can cope with a new onslaught of Norwegian.
Interestingly her first words were mainly in Norwegian (so DP had to learn some Norwegian to communicate with her, as he is actually really reluctant to try learning it properly) and she was a really early talker (from around 10 months) so it doesn't necessarily slow their language down - although now she's going to start school I can see it being a bit of a dilemma in terms of learning to read - I will have to help her with her English reading homework at the same time as trying to keep her Norwegian up (& hopefully some Norwegian reading too - although the phonics are so different).
It's REALLY hard work - especially when they get older and you have their friends round and you're torn between speaking Norwegian to your child but at the same time everybody has to be able to understand what's going on & you're also chatting away to the mums in English. They say you shouldn't let yourself say a word in English to the child but I haven't been able to do that - but we talk on our own almost exclusively in Norwegian, at least I talk to HER in Norwegian whatever she replies in. And we always read books together in Norwegian. And sing songs. What I do wish is that I'd got hold of more DVDs in Norwegian earlier on - they have all the popular UK titles translated, including Teletubbies etc... after watching a few episodes of something like Maisie in Norwegian she's much more ready to instigate her own Norwegian conversation.
Am nearly 34 weeks but nowhere near packing hospital bags etc - so impressed with others!!! We don't even know exactly where the new baby is going to sleep (some serious furniture jigsaw type moving around required). My mum's bringin a cot over in mid-October but we need something in between so scouring Freecycle every day at the moment for a Moses basket we can use in the interim. AbFab had a look at that Amby Nest last week and fell in love. I tell you, if we had the money and this was our first baby I'd be going for that - DD had colic/reflux etc and I think it would have really helped.
