Been to hosp. Baby fine , I def have some mixture of SPD/PGP , was limping this morning & registrar talking about crutches but he does seem fussy. I managed to distract him from my ( normal) BP at least. Baby fine, hated being poked and I'm suffering for it now. Registrar also said my climbing stairs at work will have exasperated it so am debating saying something as I had no risk assessment later on and my supervisor didn't really listen. The building doesn't have a lift so isn't great for access anyway

Had a bad night baby wise too as they wanted to trampoline all night & I went to the toilet about 8 times.

Ooh Nymph you're really being put through the mill aren't you? What is PGP? Did you have this with your previous pregnancies? How are you feeling in yourself most importantly?

Thats pants Tyson have you got a number you can call to chase up? Perhaps you're mw has been called away and hasn't had the chance to let you know. Its very irritating as its not as if we all swan around with all the time in the world to wait around.

RooBear · 24/08/2010 11:36

Hope you seeing your MW as I type tyson Blimey nymph think you are due a easy labour after all this!

just listening to my colleague discuss her son's gcses, he got 1 B, 2 A's and the rest A*s but shes not happy! I would be over the moon if my (unborn!) child got that! She seems proud but keeps saying 'a B' over and over like its not good enough

DillyDora · 24/08/2010 11:44

nymph for PGP and especially SPD no stairs!!! Or, you have to walk up one step at a time and put both feet on each step, sorry Hon but it's the only way. There is lots of physio you can do and it really does help and doesn't take too long each day.

O Shieldbug how lovely is that story?!

My most random belly touch was a girl I was interviewing for a place on the course I teach on - totally just touched my tummy out of nowhere! O well...friendly.... I don't mind really.

Hello and hope you're well to everyone else
xx

nymphadora · 24/08/2010 12:42

Elsa- not had it before

Roo- having a section which adds another complication as they recommend staying mobile

Dilly- I do stairs like that anyway cos I have a bad knee. The problem was work and was on 3rd floor no lift! I only saw Physio last week so had no diagnosis before finishing workalthough I had mentioned the pain to my supervisor. My house has four floors too but am sticking to the middle two! We also have steps in& out !

Tyson- did she turn up?

Hi, just popping in for a catch up.

Roo I've had protein twice- they have sent it off to be checked and then just looked again at my next appointment. I haven't been to babies r us but I know my SIL was really pleased with some of the bargains she got there.

Floozie am very Envy of you finishing work tomorrow. Enjoy!! We are back after the summer hols next week- then I have still got 3 and a half weeks before my maternity starts.

Shield that is a really sweet story. Some people are so nice Smile

Tyson hope the mw has shown up. Slapped legs I think!!

nymph that is pants- hope you feel better. At least all is well with baby.

I had the health visitor come to see me yesterday. Has anyone else had one? It wasn't really very useful to be honest though she was really nice.

Been internet shopping this morning- got a oven, hob, fridge freezer, washer, dryer, dishwasher and trying to get a car seat. Feel like I am getting more ready for the new arrival. Also got my new more baby friendly car at the weekend- though was very sad to see my convertible go Sad

Still in lots of pain from pulled muscle in my back- anyone got any tips on how to ease it?

Sorry about the long post xx

SamanthaB123 · 24/08/2010 13:56

Haven't read all of the posts yet so can't name check but have some news... I went to see the consultant and have a scan today as part of monitoring my cyst. It is the same size as always which is good. The pain that I am having in my bump and back is in an area where there are a number of things all competing for space - the placenta, the feet, the cyst, my ribs and my lungs. It is probably caused by a combination of too many limbs and things and not enough room. It may be aleviated if the baby engages as she will be lower down, but she will be bigger/be getting bigger, so it may not make a difference. I may not be able to go back to school next week as the pain is probably not going to go. I am going to the hospital again in four weeks (at 36 weeks) and if there is no change I will be induced. And this means that I could be having a baby in four weeks time. Four weeks! Good job I did all the shopping early. I am a little in shock and feel slightly delerious (sp?). She is expected to weigh about 6lbs by then and not considered to be at risk in any way. Four weeks. Shit.

Will name check later when I have recovered!

DillyDora · 24/08/2010 13:58

Gordon Bennett Sam12 I didn't know I needed a new oven for bub! Wink seriously sounds like you've been on a mish. Massage for the sore back?

Nymph I remember now about your tall and narrow house, so annoying about those stairs, your poor pelvis!

Just had my work appraisal - went well Grin and did I tell you we've got 0.4 mat leave cover for me? I'm ft but still, better than nothing and should shut up the people who've been narky about taking on cover.

SamanthaB123 · 24/08/2010 14:28

Nymph You are having a torrid time of it. Have you got a date for your section yet? Presumably you won't go to term, how early will they/are you happy for them to operate?

Tyson I assume that you are quiet because you are with your midwife..! The lacksidasical (sp?) approach that I have found in a number of healthcare professionals has been quite staggering. We see these people so infrequently I don't think that they appreciate how important it is to us.

Sam12 Sorry to hear about your back. I'd go to the osteopath personally but it depends how bad it is. Tiger balm is good but I'm not sure about using it in pregnancy. It's probably terribly dangerous.

Vikks I'm glad that Harry is ok. It's so worrying and lousy when you have to wait for the scans. At least you can relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy - and hope that he is a little early so as not to get too big Wink!

Hermya Hope you are feeling better today...

RooBear · 24/08/2010 14:41

well done on your work appraisal diily I can't get cover because of the recruitment ban, luckily my colleagues are fab.

Have you finished work now nymph?

sam12 we've just treated ourselves to a fridgefreezer and dishwasher, should arrive next sunday. Ask your dh for a massage for you back!

jessebelle · 24/08/2010 14:44

Blimey!

Gonna take me ages to catch up - so sorry in advance for yet another epic post! Been away at Green Man Festival - DP was working on a stage there so I booked a B'n'B for me and the DD (a LOVELY b'n'b which kept me sane - in the middle of nowhere & just room for one family to stay - the owners were grandparents and became surrogate grandparents to DD, taking her to feed the horses, pick blackberries, feed the birds, etc etc).

Was seriously pouring down and muddy by the first evening we got on site - can promise that it's NOT advisable terrain for preggy ladies holding excitable 4-year-olds who are into Peppa Pig! Ha ha ha ha!!! By Sunday it had dried out a bit thank goodness.

I totally did too much walking there - as I was expecting - so by 7pm each day I was a wreck physically. But it was such a lovely atmosphere and although I knew it would be child friendly it really took me aback just how many kids & families with babies etc etc there were - kids' area was superb as well. Highly recommend it for any of you who like going to festivals as a good one for next year. Only downer really was the 7 hour drive on my own (with DD) there and back - knackering.

My scan revealed that my placenta is still low (and baby is fine, on the big side & still hiding his/her face behind hands). So another scan in a couple of weeks (week 36) which is also when the obstetrician will give me the low down on what they think to my VBAC birth plan... Feels weird it all being so up in the air. It is anyway, for most of us, but I wish I knew whether I HAD to have a caesarean or not, so I could plan my life a bit better!

Moonstorm & Seashells
Hei Hei! I was born in Ã…lesund, then moved to Oslo when 4, then to England when 10. Rest of family have moved back so have no Norwegian family here now. My big brother and sister are actually from Bergen! DP is English.

Yes, my DD is already bilingual - although she stopped talking Norwegian for a while around the age of 3 (but understood everything). I think she was having too much fun building a rich English vocab at nursery etc. She's coming back into it now as I think she's figuring out it's quite cool having another language & perhaps her English 'base' is now complete and so her brain can cope with a new onslaught of Norwegian.

Interestingly her first words were mainly in Norwegian (so DP had to learn some Norwegian to communicate with her, as he is actually really reluctant to try learning it properly) and she was a really early talker (from around 10 months) so it doesn't necessarily slow their language down - although now she's going to start school I can see it being a bit of a dilemma in terms of learning to read - I will have to help her with her English reading homework at the same time as trying to keep her Norwegian up (& hopefully some Norwegian reading too - although the phonics are so different).

It's REALLY hard work - especially when they get older and you have their friends round and you're torn between speaking Norwegian to your child but at the same time everybody has to be able to understand what's going on & you're also chatting away to the mums in English. They say you shouldn't let yourself say a word in English to the child but I haven't been able to do that - but we talk on our own almost exclusively in Norwegian, at least I talk to HER in Norwegian whatever she replies in. And we always read books together in Norwegian. And sing songs. What I do wish is that I'd got hold of more DVDs in Norwegian earlier on - they have all the popular UK titles translated, including Teletubbies etc... after watching a few episodes of something like Maisie in Norwegian she's much more ready to instigate her own Norwegian conversation.

Am nearly 34 weeks but nowhere near packing hospital bags etc - so impressed with others!!! We don't even know exactly where the new baby is going to sleep (some serious furniture jigsaw type moving around required). My mum's bringin a cot over in mid-October but we need something in between so scouring Freecycle every day at the moment for a Moses basket we can use in the interim. AbFab had a look at that Amby Nest last week and fell in love. I tell you, if we had the money and this was our first baby I'd be going for that - DD had colic/reflux etc and I think it would have really helped.

nymphadora · 24/08/2010 14:47

SamB- they haven't decided yet. 38-39 weeks depends on my health. 4 weeks sounds v quick though! Good job you've got all your shopping, though it may work out better if you finish work then straight to baby - no leave wasted!

I can't remember who asked but massage is good for the back!

well done Dilly re: appraisal and getting some maternity cover

Nymph hope you get a better night's sleep tonight. Are you still studying? Apologies if I have gotten you mixed up with someone else but seem to remember that you were studying with OU and had an exam close to due date - am I right??

SamB123 Wow! have you got over the shock? Hppe everything goes well and pleased to hear that you have gotten the shopping out of the way

Floozie hope you had a good last day at work. I finish next tuesday but have last day in office on thursday (work mostly from home). I will be made redundant whilst on maternity leave so hoping I don't get all emotional on thursday after being with company for 10 years.

Tyson hope midwife appointment went well

I had my 31 week check today and everything good - no longer measuring big for dates.

Hope everyone else is OK and getting some sleep

Elsa123 · 24/08/2010 14:54

Well done with your appraisal Dilly- mine's due soon too. Good thing about the 0.4 cover- not that I know exactly what it is!

Sam12 no I haven't had a HV come round. Crikey you have a long baby list of stuff- well done! What car did you get?

SamB123 Shock 4 weeks! So, how big is your cyst now?

I just nearly fell over at work Blush. I dropped a bit of paper on the floor, crouched down quickly to get it and tried to get up, turn and walk forwards all pretty much simultaneously having not really stopped in the first place when crouching iyswim. I then went headlong forwards and ended up doing that fast run to try and get my feet to catch up with my rapidly falling body- looking like a 100m sprinter in the finishing metres. It was very loud and I did that classic continue jogging to look like I was going somewhere in a hurry. I don't think anyone saw me....just an office full of people....

At least I didn't actually fall because I would have gone straight down onto my bump BlushBlush. Thank goodness I was in trousers and flat shoes to enable the running and thank goodness I was nimble enough to execute the manouevre although if I wasn't I probably wouldn't have tried to get the paper off the floor on the move as it was.....

nymphadora · 24/08/2010 14:57

Backsgain- not me that's studying can't remember who it was though

OP posts:
BackAgain · 24/08/2010 15:02

Nymph :) At least I knew my memory could be failing me! Good job I am finishing work soon!

Good luck to whoever is studying

jessebelle · 24/08/2010 15:10

SamB123 Sorry to hear that your in pain which is definitely NOT good but... wow!... that's actually quite exciting re: perhaps meeting your baby in four weeks (and you must be absolutely relieved your shopping is all done!). p'raps you'll be the first of us?

elsa123 oooh, scary - glad you didn't actually fall. i fell once in the mud at Green Man and realised i really shouldn't be walking around in it at night, luckily I fell on my bum.

workwise - i'm there now but not there. I really have got to the stage now where i can't concentrate and i don't really 'care' either. so not sure if i'm so much forgetful as just not paying attention anymore. I would much rather be totally focusing on the new arrival now. two more weeks to go!

SamanthaB123 · 24/08/2010 15:35

Thanks for the messages, it is a bit of a shock that it might be so soon, but it's all up in the air so there is quite a lot of uncertaintly. There is also the fact that I'm in pain most of the time too Sad.

Elsa The cyst is about 6x5x4. It's been that size since it was first spotted which is good because it isn't growing. It's in an awkward place and is all squished up. I noticed from my scan notes that the baby is averaged sized in all respects except the length of her legs. This won't help either. You are lucky you didn't fall over, sounds like you made quite a recovery Grin!

In other news, we ought to start thinking about a name for our new thread which isn't so far away. Something about the one where our babies arrive (but in a catchy, intelligent and amusing sentence, unlike mine...)?!

DillyDora · 24/08/2010 15:37

Sheesh SamB123 had missed your post! That's major major! Wow! Could be totally fab to meet LO in 4 weeks tho and have respite from all the discomfort - you'd feel better all over. Hope you're recovering from the news/suggestion!

elsa glad you're ok twinkle toes! It is hard to get used to this new shape...

0.4 cover is 2 days a week, but my job is a ft one Hmm never mind, better than nowt!

Tyson86 · 24/08/2010 16:02

Hello, mw turned up after waiting an hour and 20 mins, she was nice in the end though so just took her apology. Apparently the baby is measuring as though she hasnt grown in 6 weeks so got to have a growth scan in a week or so. My bump has def got bigger so i am not concerned as this happened with ds all the way through pg with him.

Will read posts properly later, just decorating my bedroom in prep for the mw's to see for the home birth :)

tiredfeet · 24/08/2010 16:10

hello all, I'm going through a really tired spell at the minute, have been reading but not had the energy to post! I managed a swim today but since then have done nothing except read and make DH lunch. I've been like this for a few days now, finding it hard as it feels like no amount of rest makes a difference.

Tyson I'm pleasd your midwife finally turned up, I know it can be a pain having to wait around.

Samb wow 4 weeks isn't far away at all! Bet that must take some time to get your head around. Still I can't wait to meet my little one now, so there are positives too Smile . Sorry you're in pain though.

right, better go and do something productive before another day is over!

DillyDora · 24/08/2010 16:21

tiredfeet anaemic? How many weeks are you? The mw said if I was cream crackered at 34 weeks they'd check for anaemia.

OK, so this is embarrassing...my tummy was itching so I got some cream out to rub in as that relieves the itch, lifted up my top ....and found lots of chocolate muffin crumbs which had fallen down my maternity bra and onto my tum and were causing the itch Blush

Elsa123 · 24/08/2010 16:34

Smile Dilly- I'm with you on that one- I'm becoming brilliant at catching food in my bra and said crumbs moving very quickly to the outer reaches, making rummaging hard. I can only assume my boobs resting on my bump is creating a lovely shelf!

Managed to get through to Mamas and Papas and the cotbed is available and is being despatched so not sure where the Lincoln branch got the not available until 20 Oct from. Pessemistic (not sure how to spell that) I know but I can envisage not all of it turning up or the wrong thing....

Glad your mw turned up Tyson. You seem to be the same as me with sizing vs dates. All was fine for me too.

tiredfeet · 24/08/2010 17:20

dilly I think I might be a little, my last bloods came back with the iron levels at the low end of normal, whereas they'd been very good at the beginning of pregnancy. But I've been on the iron tablets since then...

yep my bra/ bump seem to have become very effective crumb catchers too!

elsa glad there's been progress on the cotbed front. I can understand the urge to get things sorted, I have nearly everything on my list now because I just felt this sudden need to have everything ready. Just need to get some clothes / pyjamas etc for after the birth and then I think I'm done! although if I do decide to go with reusable nappies that will then keep me busy researching / shopping until I pop I reckon.

Hermya321 · 24/08/2010 18:13

I ended up on hospital yet again today, this time on the monitors. LO had been very quiet today, I didn't think anything of it really as he was jumping around like a hyperactive bouncy ball last night. I had my 31 week check today (all fine and dandy BTW) and mentioned that he had been quiet today and next thing I know I'm being sent off to the hospital to be monitored. It really freaked me out, it was all so sudden. LO was fine and was playing hide and seek with me and the midwife, he was described as a 'bouncy little bunny' and danced away like some sort of raver in a pub.

I dunno.

On the plus side, I got to look around my hospitals labour ward as no one was in at that point. My word, it looks fab. Also they gave me some toast and I have to say the rumours about labour ward toast are true. I don't know what they do to it, but it was lovely even when it was a bit cold it still tasted good (they offered me a slice and I thought 'why not, I'm not going anywhere for a while').

Shieldbug I still have the headache and pain in ribs, but they're not as bad as yesterday.

Tyson Did she turn up?

Dilly I have stopped wearing white t-shirts for that very reason.

Elsa Glad you didn't fall down.

Sam Wow, four weeks. That must feel so weird. I'm glad you have all your shopping done though.

Tired Seriously once you start with the resuable nappy shopping, you'll find yourself sucked into a world full of fluff.
