Sympathies to wonder and TSC, I am now starting to feel all grumpy about being overdue as well. For some reason I know loads of people who have had early babies and I just thought I would have mine on my due date, despite everyone telling me how usual it is for 1st babies to be late.

Feel like I am in total limbo land, not able to plan more that a day ahead and going to bed every night hoping that it will start. Am also picking very irrational arguments with DH, then bursting into tears which strangely helps a bit as it feels like quite a release.

Am completely annoyed at all the "have you popped yet?" texts, calls and emails, I used to do this to people but now just want to be left alone and quite fancy taking to my bed with a massive bar of chocolate and just sleeping and eating until the baby appears

Lets try and keep our spirits up ladies, what are you doing to pass the time till B day? (apart from reading about the new mums like this !!)

MelissaM · 20/07/2010 14:39

hi ladies. Haven't had chance to catch up on what you have all been up to as been a little busy - will read later. Our little boy (name tbc) was borned yesterday afternoon at 1:40, weighing 7lb 4 1/2oz in the back of an ambulance outside the maternity hospital. Laboured at home (planned hb) for 13+ hrs, but was being transferred due to lack of progress as baby wouldn't get in a good position. Previous labour had been only 5 hrs in total, so this was abnormally long for the first stage of a second labour, which could have meant there was an underlying problem. The bumpy ride and adrenalhin managed to turn baby into the right position and out he popped just as we arrived at the hospital, pretty much breathed out. Home again 3 1/2 hrs later, and wld have been an hour earlier if dh hadn't had to get a taxi home to get the car and carseat. All doing well. Good luck to those still to drop. x

kkfairybrains · 20/07/2010 14:42

vik yeahy he understands why and he's just on the lookout for signs so he can step in and help which is brilliant. he's really proved himself since baby arrived. he's had all his leave as he's only in the job 3 months.he'l be off for a week in august but that will be to recover from an operation but it will still be nice to have him round! as for routine im bottle feeding so its a bit easier and she seems to be going the 4 hours. a lot more awake time during the day!so im trying to think of ways to keep her entertained during these times if anyone has any ideas?

DeeLite · 20/07/2010 15:38

Hello everyone. Quick update: Baby Sean was born weighing 8lbs9oz at 12.20 am on Sunday 18th July. He is a beautiful boy but labour was really tough and the first few days are proving fairly challenging too. This breastfeeding lark is not easy for something that one would think might come naturally. I am really having my eyes opened and look on mums with a newfound awe now. What a whirlwind!

I hope everyone is well and that overdue babies are getting their skates on. I haven't been able to catch up on the thread but hopefully things will settle and I will get some spare time soon.

I have just read the few preceding messages and am really sorry you are still waiting grumpypumpkin. I found the wait really hard and got really curt with innocent enquirers. It is just such a difficult time and the well intentioned enquiries seem to compound the frustration.

Chulita · 20/07/2010 15:47

viks the bras aren't padded at all - very comfy but you do tend to 'point' quite a bit
stac my mum's here now til lo pops out so DD's sorted. Lovely cos I wasn't looking forward to mil looking after dd.

Congrats melissam, at giving birth in an ambulance though! Poor you, well done for being home so quickly

I'm still having BH all the time, got a friend who's 8 days overdue with her 2nd and she hasn't had even one BH. I'm very but hey ho, that's the way our bodies are!

I get all my grobags off Ebay - they go for not so much and although they might still cost £8-£12 second hand I do find grobags to be better quality than some of the supermarket ones.

I second tsc - bf isn't easy for everyone. DD and I struggled for a long time. It was 8 weeks before I had a pain-free breastfeeding session and even after that I'd get blocked ducts at least once a week til she weaned herself. It does come naturally to a few but I never enjoyed it - still did it for 11 months and will bf this one but at least I know what I'm in for this time! And don't panic when it all goes tits (excuse the pun) up at around 10 weeks, they go through a huuuuuge growth spurt and want to feed all the time - it's not that your milk suddenly isn't good enough it's just that they need a lot more!

OP posts:
Gracie123 · 20/07/2010 18:27

Massively agree about the conspiracy theory! My friend is a bf counsellor, and I said to her it really hurt for a few weeks last time and then was fine and she said that is normal. She recommends setting yourself a goal of 'i'm going to feed for 6weeks then use formula' as most women can cope when there is an end in sight. Usually at some point between 3-6 weeks it settles down and stops hurting and women completely forget that they ever intended to give up!

I can only recommend lansinoh nipple cream/balm or whatever that stuff is called. It revolutionised bfing for me and I went from cracked and bleeding and cryin at every feed, to confident pain free feeding in one week!

Section date is 27th so in one week i'll have my LO! It's my birthday on Saturday, but not sure we'll do anything as we are all shattered. Take away again tonight as I still ahvent got round to doing a shop and the flipping Internet not being on yet means no asda online still, can't beat a good take out

grumpypumpkin · 20/07/2010 18:38

Congrats Dee and Melissa, lovely to hear of the safe if somewhat tricky arrivals!

Very interesting to hear peoples BF experiences, I was having a very strange dream about feeding last night so it is obviously on my mind!!

Feeling bit better now after another boo on DHs shoulder, obviously regular weeps are the way through the overdue madness
He thinks I am going mad as I am normally quite a tough old boot, he is much more likely to cry at a sad film than me... Hormones eh?

wonderstuff · 20/07/2010 18:42

Had to go do cuddles with dd

I also think that some babies are more into bf than others, dd fed until she was 2 and loved it - my milk went 'not nice' when I got pregnant - which was convienent I set myself a 6 week target when she was born and never imagined myself feeding that long - a couple of friends babies never really got into it, they never had a problem weaning off the boob - one friend has now had number 2 and found bfeeding totally different second time round.

I had an awful morning and a nice afternoon - fell to pieces this morning - came down, having been up and down to the loo about every hour last night, and found washing up not done - cue uncontrollable crying for 2 hours - just soo tired and hormonal - anyway dh called and arranged to take the day off work and house is now lovely again and I even got time to make a cake - still haven't slept today. Seems like everyone on this thread is shattered atm!

I'm only doing it because a) I cannot be faffed with bottles, b) it's always there when LO's hungry so I can feed and get back to sleep and c) I lost most of my baby weight within 3 months and I'd like to think it was due to bfing (possibly not but I hope so!)

mlic I felt guilty when DD weaned herself at 11 months so I think whenever you choose to stop you feel guilty...hormones see to that!

gracie there's no harm in takeaways when you need them - and I reckon in your position you certainly do! Hope you get internet up quicker than they say!

Tonight I feel like if I sneeze I'm going to disembowel myself all over the carpet...my stomach is soooo tight!

James (not decided on middle name yet!) arrived on 18 July at 6.37pm, 9lb 4oz. he was bang on time by my original dates, though a week early by my official EDD. Fairly traumatic birth where I got to 10cm dilated slowly and surely in the birthing pool with gas and air, but then he wouldn't shift from a really awkward back to back position so it ended in a failed epidural, spinal block, episiotomy and rotational forceps. But never mind, he arrived safely in the end and he's gorgous.

will catch up on all your news soon!

viksam · 20/07/2010 21:53

chulita OMG that made me PMSL, disembowlement.......very funny, i so know what u mean!
emster hope ur feeling ok after ur birth story, James is a bonny baby, well done!!
TSC glad u have said what u said about BF i was starting to doubt that it was going to suite us, I like that Idea of setting a time limit, i think mine might be 3 months........just gota actually HAVE the baby yet, heres to us who havent hatched and another night of wondering and weeing!!

stac14 · 20/07/2010 22:41

congrats melissa dee and emster and welcome to the world lo's.
I have no idea about bf as have never tried it. When i had ds bf wasnt promoted as much and with the pnd i didnt feel able to. This time i take tablets that interfere with my milk and had an infected nipple during pg so i have no choice. Its good to hear your experiences though, think its encouraging for the others.

Not much happening here, Rileigh has an eye infection so was given drops. Mw discharged me as blood pressure is back to normal and we met the hv who was lovely. I am being watched a bit more closely due to previous pnd, but she knows i am back on my anti-d's.

How is everyone else? X

wonderstuff · 21/07/2010 05:09

Well I think I might actually be in labour - how exciting. Started having regular, but not v. painful contractions at dinner time last night - took some paracetamol and went back to bed - have snoozed and had 4 or 5 definitly stronger than bh contractions in the last hour. Also weirdly fancied a cup of tea for first time since became pregnant - so up having said cuppa and some bread pudding for breakfast. Have mw appt for sweep at 10.10 - wonder if I'll make it? Told dh who told me to wake him up when it got important and rolled over - so much more chilled second time round Still not painful enough to be sure - god I hope I'm not wrong got a feeling this could be a long slow build up.

Congratulations emster sorry about rubbish forceps - how frustrating to have that happen - hope you aren't feeling too sore.

glaston really hope something happens soon for you.

wonderstuff · 21/07/2010 08:08

And contractions have stopped again - how massivly annoying. Hopefully sweep this morning will kick things off again. I can not belive how different this pregnancy is from dd!
Positive thoughts my way please - today looks like a good day to have a baby.

memphis83 · 21/07/2010 10:16

congratulations dee emster and mel waiting for a while for more new babies then 3 come at once!!!
oh wonder how frustrating, im really thinking positive for you!!!
well i ended up going out last night, i cried as i left, when i got back at 9 Lyndon had been unsettled for about an hour dh couldnt believe it when i picked him up and 2 mins later he is asleep he woke at 2, 6.30 and is still asleep now he really is a dream, started playing with a little blanket and sucking his thumb, so cute! only thing is he wants a size 6 mummy everytime i try and eat tea he starts to cry no matter what time i make tea for, becoming a problem as i havent had an appetite since he was born! my ribs are still numb from epidural 9 days ago!! mw says this can last 6 months!!!!

wonderstuff · 21/07/2010 11:04

Oh memphis I remember constantly picking bits of my tea off of dd, as she ALWAYS wanted feeding as soon as I sat down to eat so cute he is sucking his thumb!

Well mw went quite well - I'm 3cm dilated - she thinks this happened last night when I felt contractions, she did a s+s and will do another at the weekend, induction booked for 31st - so there is an end point, but she says vv unlikely that I will have not given birth by then, hoping to do home visit for me and babs on Sunday . Recommends long walk today, and if I could possibly manage intercourse that would be great - the conversations you have when you are pregnant!
