my oh keeps saying to me how long are you going to have this sex ban for and i keep saying i want to get to second trimester and see baby is ok on scan. I feel really mean but i will just be thinking of baby constantly, am i mean? Well i went to slimming world to get weighed today and managed to maintain my weight in 2 weeks so i was really happy because ive eaten loads of junk food.x

A knitting question. Following advice from a fellow knitter on this thread, I'm going to try and make a blanket (link below)
tlc.howstuffworks.com/home/free-knitting-patterns-for-baby-blankets2.htm

It says I need to order worsted weight yarn but I'm not sure what this is and am struggling to find it online to buy. Can I just use any cotton/wool yarn so long as it's noot too thick? Any recommendations for websites to buy yarns from? Thought I might do it in a green colour, as works for girls and boys, and is DH's favourite colour

angels1 · 13/07/2010 13:05

www.englishyarns.co.uk/acatalog/Rowan_Fine_Milk_Cotton.html

Following on from last message, have found these yarns and am thinking of getting the 'apple pips' colour. Is this the right type of yarn? I'm wondering if cotton might be a bit chilly and wool might be a better choice for a february baby.

KnitterNotTwitter · 13/07/2010 13:28

Yarn weights are SUCH a dark art especially as the americans like to use different terms. Basically Worsted is similar to DK wool see here for more details

Cotton might be a bit cool... I would go for something warmer myself... I've used this wool by Debbie Bliss for a baby blanket before and it was lovely.

Cashmerino DK

The only problem was that you had to knit it holding two strand of yarn at once which was a fiddle until i'd got used to it.. Looking at the Debbie Bliss site I think you could use this wool one ball at a time as it's thicker...

Cashmerino Chunky

and here's a link to the blanket I knitted [smug/proud emoticon]

Well I've had my booking this morning - I have a lovely community midwife but since we'll be moving in the next few weeks, it's irrelevant! Hopefully my new comm mw will be just as nice.

Spoke in depth re screening tests. I can expect a nuchal scan with blood test between 11-13 weeks. If the combined risk is high then they refer me to the local regional hospital for a cvs if that's what I choose. She says I wouldn't be able to go straight for the cvs as they need a risk factor so hey ho.

However she didn't seem to batter an eye lid when I mentioned the fact I'd prefer an elective section... 'it's your choice so that's fine'. I've also chosen my consultant so I'm feeling really quite positive!

Just need to wait patiently now for our nuchal scan. I've just looked in my pregnancy day by day book and it shows a 12 week fetus measuring 2.4"! That's only a month off and I'm gonna look huge! Infact I've a wedding to go to when I'll be almost 11 weeks so i think there's going to be a lot of growth by then! Eek, no hiding then to close friends!! And my husband still doesn't want us to disclose! Haha, I think it may be out of our hands by that time!

Symptom wise, I'm feeling I'm done with the worst of it. Amazingly I'm feeling better today and am actually considering going for a short walk to the post box - big achievement for me as I've barely left the house in 2 weeks! Not due back at work till next w.e so hopefully I should be back to normal by then.

Anyway, have a good day peeps, and good luck with the knitting! A bit fiddly for me so I think I'll stick to the cross stitch tho i never found one for twins! Would anyone know of a pattern for twins??

angels1 · 13/07/2010 13:50

Love your blanket knitter

Like the cashmerino chunky (and don't think I'd cope with the DK and having to to do 2 strands - too complicated for me!), but I'm sure someone here said to stick to natural materials only in yarn (wool/cotton etc) and not sure about the microfibre in it - does it make a difference in your opinion?

KnitterNotTwitter · 13/07/2010 13:57

tabby glad the booking in when so well, and that you're feeling better...

what sort of cross stitch pattern do you like? Animals, Geometric, Traditional etc...

angels1 · 13/07/2010 14:03

tabby I found this twins sampler

www.busylizziecrafts.co.uk/twins-sampler-cross-stitch-kit-16-count-fabric-p-923.html?zenid=uf 4pqge4pflbnsrr7q2ar2gbo1

which is cute, but not free It's really hard to find something isn't it?

I'm so glad you're symptoms have got a little better. I've become more jolly in myself this past week too (new medication definately something to do with it) - eating a little more variety and even thinking about a trip to the supermarket tomorrow to top up on bits (my first trip out other than to the doctors in weeks). Hopefully things will get better....

Honeywitch · 13/07/2010 14:22

Am spotting.

They have booked me in for an early scan on Thursday morning and told me to try not to worry.

Am working to try to to keep mind off it, but am very worried. Hope it's not tmi, but I had pinkish goo with a few little red spots. I haven't dared go to the loo since.

angels1 · 13/07/2010 14:30

honeywitch if it helps, I had spotting on sunday, but a scan on monday showed all fine - I read about 20% of people have spotting in first 3 months. Just take it easy and try not to worry too much (easier said than done...)

knittakid · 13/07/2010 15:26

angels1 the yarn snob was me. I would deff. use that debbie bliss, what I'd steer clear off are yarns with polyester or nylon, or a much higher percentage of those. Beautiful blanket Knitter!

Honeywitch it is just sooo scary, I had spotting on the weekend and went to the EPU early on Monday, nothing will reassure you until you have teh scan and know, so try and keep calm! (I was lucky it was the weekend, so i just slept through it, you might want to give that a go if you can...)

Honeywitch · 13/07/2010 15:35

Unfortunately have to give a presentation tomorrow night (scan next morning) at 8pm with a long journey there and back. Work is soetimes good for taking my mind off things and sometimes not!!!!!!!

Will go to bed early tonight with the seven siamese kittens - now that's a better distraction! I'm not going to get into this knitting lark - can you imagine the chaos?!

Have just been to the loo and nothing this time, but feeling periody if you know what I mean, so please keep your fingers crossed for me.

leelteloo · 13/07/2010 16:21

Got everything crossed for you honey. Did you say 7 kittens!!!! How cute, I'm crazy cat woman, I've got Burmese, i did breed some kittens about 8 years ago, oh they were so cute! They will definitely keep your mind off bad things
Re knitting, i do tapestry, not done one in a while and no energy for anything once dd gone to bed and she would think it very odd if mummy started to sow, but you have all inspired me to go to get a nice one for the baba's room, but think I'll leave it till 12 weeks, hopefully have more energy and will know all is well.

Lulabel27 · 13/07/2010 16:28

Hi All
Thought I'd give a quick update after yesterdays excessive throwing guts up vomiting. I went to A&E despite protests of feeling like i was wasting their time and they put me on a drip straight away! They were so lovely said I was clearly dehydrated and put me on some anti-sickness meds. I was there for a few hours and then came home v v late last night and feel absolutely FINE this morning. Its so weird its like it never happened!

The positive thing is that I lost all the 6lbs that I'd put on in the past 11 weeks so am quite pleased and as I'm 10st (BMI 23) its not like i'm thin anyway so its a good weight.

Cler well done you for staying same for past 2 weeks. I think its good to monitor but not be obsessive about it. Angels don't worry it'll probably even out between now and 20 weeks.

Honey I hope you're ok and the spotting is just a natural thing like others on here have had. Fingers are crossed for you!!

Bye for now (Skips off in MS free skippy mode)

tadjennyp · 13/07/2010 17:09

Good luck honey.

I had lots of saucy dreams with both previous pregnancies! With dd it was Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol and with ds it was DJ Spoony and most of the dreams revolved around his size . The dreams seem to have started again the other night but with noone recognisable yet!

Lulabel27 · 13/07/2010 17:20

Oooh I think I dream of Gary Lightbody even when not pregnant! Totally normal

tadjennyp · 13/07/2010 18:07

He is lush, isn't he? Maybe we could add the object of our saucy dreams to the stats?!

tabbycat76 · 13/07/2010 18:10

Hey thanks for your suggestion angels re twin birth cross stitch pattern. In my hunt for one I did actually come across that one but my husband doesn't like it There are so many fun ones for singletons... toys, animals, traditional etc but very very few for twins. So not fair. My husband says why don't I try designing my own one but heck that sounds like a mean feat as I've never done that before! I like all sorts of style really but not twee! haha

Glad you're feeling better too. I wandered out to the post box this afternoon, my first trip out like you in weeks, other than to the GP. Wow, it took me soooo long to walk a normal 10 minute walk, and my, did I feel it afterwards! Felt so rotten I had to lay down again! Was feeling so much better too. A mw friend of mine said that of course I'm feeling better, I'm in my own home, can rest when I want and can have a drink and something to eat when I please.....could I do that at work tho?!?!? Hahaha, NHS staffing wouldn't allow it!! Ha

Honey hope everything clears for you and your spotting stops soon. Glad to hear you have a scan booked so lets all keep fingers crossed for you! Keep us posted. Btw, I'm cat mad but my husband is more a dog lover so damn! I'd have loved to have a cat/kitten but we've kind of agreed no cat unless he can have a dog and since I don't want to be the one left to walk it everyday (esp now with twins) I can't see a purry feline addition any time soon!

Leeltloo - what kind of tapestrys do you do? I'd recommend doing one for your nursey - I did a cross stitch for my neice (a toy shelf style) and it looked so effective!

angels1 · 13/07/2010 18:26

Tabby - making up your own cross stitch pattern really isn't as hard as it sounds. You can base it on a birth pattern that you like and just add bits for the twins/move bits about to how you want. I really like doing presonalised ones as they feel so one off.

As regards to me feeling better - I wish I hadn't said it! Guess what? I've spent the whole afternoon in bed trying not to throw up I think it was because I had a frozen pizza for lunch (I didn't eat it frozen, I cooed it forst obv!) and maybe it was just a bit too greasy as have suffered ever since. Hope it doesn't last too much longer - anyone felt ill from something they ate which aggrevated their ms? did it last long after eating? I hope I'm not up all night with this - even my meds haven't helped

tabbycat76 · 13/07/2010 18:32

Aw angels you poor thing!! Just when you thought you were getting over it! It's really nasty isn't it and people who've never experienced ms (specifically the MIL and my mother) just can't appreciate how debilitating it can be! I'd probbaly just stick to bland foods for a bit longer since it may be the meds that made you feel up to eating something flavoursome! Oh dear, hope it soone eases.

Good idea re adapting one I like. I have a CD Rom Cross stitch designer so I guess I could have a go. It really would be lovely to have one for them.

earlgreyismynectar · 13/07/2010 19:35

Hi everyone
Honey, hope you can manage to relax until your scan and it's all ok. Spotting does seem to be very common place though little comfort when you're actually there I'm sure.
All this talk of cross stitch and knitting is inspiring! Not seen my crocheting friend yet! Maybe I'll look at cross stitch too!
Yes Americanexpat your not the only one having these dreams! Pregnancy just makes me SO up for it!!
Take care all oh & angels, hope your MS passes! Been too busy today to remember my symptoms but dog tired now!

smallblackflowers · 13/07/2010 20:11

Honeywitch just to reinforce the fact that spotting isn't always a bad thing - I had some a few weeks ago and was convinced that all was over (have previously miscarried), but have since seen little bean alive and kicking on 2 occasions, and where with my mc my spotting increased and increased it didn't this time. Just the one wipe and that was it. Fingers crossed it is the same for you. [hugs]

I've been feeling particularly nauseous today, but eating has sorted it out each time...steak and ale pie with chips for lunch and thai green curry with rice for tea (low fat, home made). Yummy. Haven't dared the scales in a few days......

I am tempted to learn to crochet - I inherited a crochet hook with my grandmother's knitting needles and have wool so might just have a look for some lessons on youtube later.

On the subject of DS - I am offered the combined screening - blood test at my booking appt. on Thursday and scan in 2 weeks, and terrible though it is we wouldn't go through with the pregnancy if DS was confirmed.

gigglet · 13/07/2010 20:20

Good luck honeywitch, I had spotting a couple of weeks ago which turned out to be nothing, I have my fingers crossed its the same for you.

angels1 I hope you feel better tomorrow.

Pebblestone · 13/07/2010 20:43

Hi all,
I haven't been on here for a while as we have been moving house and jobs. The last two days I have been so sick but needed to go in to work as I am a teacher but had to get someone to cover one of my lessons in the end anyway. Made an excuse about it being nothing contagoeus and that it was just a bad reaction to some tablets I was taking. It's so hard when nobody knows!

As to sex, although it does seem a bit wierd to me it is my husband that has compleetly gone off it. He had a dream that we had sex and that there was blood everywhere and he can't get that image out of his mind. I know this is compleetly normal but I hope he gets over it after our scan in a couple of weeks otherwise it might be a long 9 months He also can't get his head around the idea that although the baby is protected it must be close enough to feel it, I am being very patient and just smile when he comes out with these things.

Looking forward to the scan (although date not confirmed yet as I have to see the new midwife with moving house)hopefully it will all seem much more real then to both of us, we can tell everyone and life should start to settle down a little.

x

ledkr · 13/07/2010 20:47
