Hi,

My first child is due in Nov and I live in Greenwich. I would love to get together with some other local mums to be maybe compare bumps, pregnancy and chat over a coffee?

Anyone else locally due this Autumn?

xx

Woohoo! How very exciting!

Really looking forward to this....

I'll keep a look out for the ladies with bumps... I don't really think I have a bump... Maybe a leeeettle bumplet, but a whole lotta feeling fatter and frumpy

veryruthy · 07/07/2010 23:27

Hi everyone

wow! I have just registered to mumsnet to see if I can find other local mums-to-be to meetup with. and here you go!! i live in lewisham and i would love to join you on the 15th. is that ok?

Stickhasgrownup · 08/07/2010 13:52

Welcome veryruthy, when are you due? I'll add you to the list!

londonbump · 08/07/2010 20:42

Ruthy it would be fab to see you there. :D

Hope you girls are all ok? I have had hideous lower back pain for a few days. Ended up at physio then dr! Been ordered to rest and if no bettter a trip to A & E....

Nightmare!! Think baby wedged itself somewhere tricky! Ouch!

Glad it isn't tonight our meet up!!

Really looking forward to next Thursday!

Am also thinking of starting the aqua natal classes at the Arches if anyone is keen?

londonbump - When are they on? May be interested...
Poor you with your back... at times its no fun this pregnancy thing! Hope it clears soon!

veryruthy · 08/07/2010 21:08

ohh that's great! I am due in early December - the month that's missing in your group .

hmmm londonbump that back pain sounds not good. hope your physio is competent and can sort that out.

thought about aqua aerobic as well though it's not really my thing. will see, everyone recommends it...

Much looking forward to meeting you all

londonbump · 09/07/2010 09:55

It's not really my thing either but it comes highly reccomended in pregnancy as exercise because the water takess all your weight. Meant to strengthen, tone etc and physio said will def help with my back pain! Which is probably baby wedged where pelvis meets spine. OW! Also she said studies show babies in womb respond to being in water and helps them change position.

I'll give anything a go once to ease lower back although need to buy a pregnancy swimsuit first!! if nothing else might be a nice way to meet some other mums or a good excuse for a drink after!

It is on Tuesday - 10am - 11am
Thursday 7pm - 8pm

They also do Antenatal yoga 12 - 1 on a Thursday.

Due to full time work I can only do Thursday night until I finish for the summer (I'm a teacher) and obviously not nxt week! Might try the week after.

Hi all,

I'm off work (resting the back on Dr's orders, which is much improved thanks!) and in the boredom I decided to research mum & baby things locally (Abit early I know!). I thought you'd all like to know what I found!

Basically there is LOADS to do! and choose from:
These are mainly Blackheath / Greenwich but tonnes of the same in Charlton, Lewisham, Eltham and surrounding areas.

  • baby and toddler rhyme time at the libraries.
  • songs and stories in spanish
  • boppin bunnies songs and music
-Baby sensory class
  • Greenwich picture house do a Parent & baby screening every week.
  • baby bounce at lewisham library
  • Salsa babies
-messy time play -caterpillar music
  • running mummies (or slow walking with coffee and muffin whilst gossiping in my case!)
  • monkey music
  • sing and sign
  • the Vanbrugh pub do weekly mums and babies lunch.
  • aqua tots
  • mum and babies yoga
  • little voices
  • stay and play centres

So there are tonnes of options when we are ready to take our little ones out and about!

Exciting times!

If anyone knows of other things available do you mind posting them on here so we can all pick and choose what suits when the time is right!!x

Updated list:

FlorCampestre Aug Blackheath
Stickhasgrownup Sept Eltham

Londonbump Nov Greenwich
FlorCampestre's Friend Nov Local
veryruthy Ded Lewisham
Leepod Jan West Greenwich

Aqua isn't really me... to the extent that exercise isn't really me! However I have tried it before and it was fun (hopefully the water will hide my lack of co-ordination!) May be able to do Thursdays.... will have to butter up dh as ds does beavers at that time and will need collecting at 7.15. So will let you know! Mind you haven't organised for him to collect ds next thurs either so I best get my baby brain into gear!

Things with babies....

  • The Rhyme time sessions at libraries are fab and they are free! Recommend the one at The Eltham Centre on a Friday.
  • Also Toddlers world (from 6m+) at the leisure centres are great. Basically soft padded blocks to climb/crawl through etc.
  • Would recommend getting kids a greenwich membership card. Costs £1/year and gets you money off each time you take them.
  • Baby and mother swimming lessons at leisure centres - singing and splashing!

I have tried most things so can give my opinion on things if wanted!

I guess the more isolating bit is when you first have the baby and they are not really old enough for all the groups... Thats when you need mummy friends to drink lots of coffee with and shop!

Sounds brilliant! Just what I need certainly! It will be fab to have local friends to support each other.

I'm not an exercise girl either but willing to try ...... maybe! . I will have no excuse in summer hols when I'm off work!

salsa babies sounds like fun

londonbump · 09/07/2010 21:42

Yeah it does. It is in Blackheath (Myceane House I think) you need a baby carrier and you strap little one to you and learn some salsa steps! x

OP posts:
FingonTheValiant · 10/07/2010 10:58

Oh wow, I'd been trying to put together a list of things to do, that's brilliant thanks!

I'm going to try the aqua things at the arches on Tuesday (probably) so I'll let you know what it's like on Thursday. New Look actually do some fairly decent, fairly cheap maternity swimsuits, I got mine there.

LondonBump, I have bad lower back pain, I really sympathise with you on that one. Hope it's getting better. I have knackered joints from loads of sport when younger, so I'm really hoping all that water support will help.

I think there are also activities at the Greenwich plaisance at Westcombe Park. At the very least, it's always full of women with pushchairs at the tea and sandwich stall, and it has a play park and it's much less busy than Greenwich Park.

My friend has loved the cinema for babies, I think the one at the O2 does it as well. She says it's lovely and relaxed.

leepod · 10/07/2010 11:04

Welcome veryruthy and look forward to meeting you too next Thursday

londonbump - I am very keen to join you for aqua aerobics at the Arches. Perhaps we could go the first Thursday after we meet (so we know what each other looks like... :D )

Sorry to hear that your back has been sooo owie! Very unpleasant, but hopefully the downtime and rest has done you some good (and it's certainly done our collective knowledge of things to do in the area good - so thank you!)

I was also considering antenatal pilates which is available in Greenwich too.

I am very much NOT an exercise person, but this may be the motivation I have needed my whole life to gently get myself into an exercise routine... :D

Might skip out on the salsa though - I have two left feet, and almost got twirled right off them without even having a baby strapped to me!

stickhasgrownup - really look forward to hearing your experiences of all the activities you listed when we meet next week..

Anyhoo, enjoy the gorgeous sunny weather all and see you soon!

Stickhasgrownup · 10/07/2010 15:36

FingonTheValiant - Thanks for the tip on where to buy cheap mat swimsuits... will go have a look as mine is getting those see through patches in and I was trying to do without buying another, but if I'm going to do aquanatal maybe I should treat myself! Do all new looks have maternity section? Where did you find yours?
Hx

PS. Was also wondering... if its not too personal a question... how old we all are?! I'm 32.

londonbump · 10/07/2010 19:53

No not all of them have a maternity section unfort!! In fact very few places except the main oxford st stores stock much of anything. So far I've found the H&M, topshop and dorothy perkins there good for reasonable & nice maternity clothes. I also bought a couple of things in the mamas and papas sale (Too expensive full price!).

Blooming marvellous and Mamas and Papas have a BIG sale on at the mo.
I think Mamas and Papas have 50% off everything this week. Certainly worth a look at the website.

Sad I know but on Friday I made a more comprehensive list of what's on for mums and babies with times, days, cost, contacts etc (Can you tell how bored I was resting on Friday!!) if you want a copy send me a private message or let me know ad I'll bring some Thurs.

Back feeling easier today. Thank you for all your concern.

Looking forward to Thursday night. Shall I book us a table? How many for?

XxX

PS am 27

I ordered the swimsuit from the New Look website, it was on offer so countered the cost of postage. The New Look at Charlton, opposite Asda, has a couple of racks of maternity stuff, it's the biggest I've found outside of Central London or Bluewater.

Blooming marvellous might be worth a look, I think mumsnet has a free delivery code somewhere.

I'm 25.

londonbump · 11/07/2010 17:53

Blooming marvellous also appear to be closing down. I was in bluewater today and they said that's why everything on sale so keep an eye on website / shops.I got a swimsuit there today for £8! Bargain! Also had a look buggies / travel systems :D

Stickhasgrownup · 11/07/2010 18:26

Was looking at the costumes on the blooming marvellous website... unfortunately the largest they have is a 12. Admittedly thats what I was pre pregnancy but I doubt it now... may try bluewater store. londonbump were they all little sizes or did they have some bigger?
New look online only seem to have bikini bottoms now?! So no good.

Stickhasgrownup · 11/07/2010 18:28

Oh and it may be an idea to book... think there are 7 of us. You'll have to let us know the name, the table is under, though if you do!

londonbump · 11/07/2010 21:59

No they were mostly bigger. Not many little sizes. Some good reductions on their maternity wear as well. I bought my pre-pregnancy size but not sure it will last all way through. Got some growing room but not loads but next size up was too big on bust.

Will phone tomorrow and book - keep you posted.

Thanks for all your coordination Londonbump - really looking forward to Thurs this week.. I'd like a copy of your research findings if the offer is still open.

P.S. Stickhasgrownup - I'm 33

londonbump · 12/07/2010 22:19

No worries! I'd hate us to turn up and not

get a table!

I've booked a table for 7pm at Zero Degrees,

Blackheath.

www.zerodegrees.co.uk/location-blackheath.html)

In the name of Mary Edwards.

Not my real name (thought it would be

very silly to have that information on a

public website!) and felt silly booking as

london bump!

See you all then! x
