dh freezer bags are fab you can wedge them in all over the place. Also our local chinese takeaway does everything in plastic boxes instead of foil so I save a few and use them in the freezer, I am so anal I love seeing everything stacked up and labelled nicely . I'm hoping to nick a beanbag from my dad's "den" in his loft, failing that I have my gym ball which is probably not going to be as useful when baby arrives! Lovin your gran's wisdom, if only!

mlic we've still not ventured abroad with dd - she's 4 If we weren't having dc2 we probably would have done this year but I'm not good travelling when pregnant (a good excuse to not go 4 hours to visit the outlaws!).

WickedWitchSouthWest · 24/06/2010 21:35

mlic re your tomatoes, you'd be surprised... the fruit might split but it's still edible! I've got all sorts on the go this year; strawberries, blueberries, carrots, herbs and french beans. Planning on putting some potatoes in for early next year although this may all be good intentions!

gracie I need a laugh tonight - off to investigate!

Gracie123 · 24/06/2010 21:38

DS and I made a trip to South Carolina in october (he was about 20 months) and it was a freaking nightmare.

I will not be travelling now until this LO is much older than that (much to the annoyance of family in South Africa!)

Shame really, as I do so love the sun. Especially winter sun...

Wonderstuff · 24/06/2010 21:54

No, no, no travelling with children is very easy, with newborns vvv easy?? We are off to France in Sept!

Actually taking dd on the train to Aberdeenshire (from Hampshire) was awful, especially when dh got flu - we aren't planning to do that one again until children are much, much older. We did Spain when dd was about 18mo and that was fine, she has always been good at staying up late and eating out and stuff - although now at 2.5 if she is tired she really plays up so we have to be more careful about taking her out than we used to.

Wonderstuff · 24/06/2010 22:05

Anyone else being driven mad by Braxton Hicks? Never had them with dd, so went into labour, thought is this it? and it was all straight forward, this time I'm on tenter hooks, it all seems to be starting, then it stops, its so stressful, just ordered a guided meditation cd, hoping it will help me switch off and sleep.

Jojobil · 24/06/2010 22:11

We flew all over the place with DD since she was a few months old, Europe, States, New Zealand etc... And she is a great traveller. I think as long as they have their needs taken care of it's fine. This summer heading to Suffolk beaches in August and venturing to Portugal in October. But we are already discussing, the Indian ocean next year - I can not wait!

Jojobil · 24/06/2010 22:13

Wonder I have no idea about Braxton Hicks, but my lower back, front lower tummy and sides are hurting like hell every now and then, I have had none of those with DD...

Gracie123 · 24/06/2010 22:26

Yeah, bh are driving me insane too.

I think sc was bad because a) 9 hour time difference b) 10 hour flight with no sky cot (despite booking one) overnight with DS on my lap crying because he had been awake nearly 36 hours!

Never again!!!

WickedWitchSouthWest · 24/06/2010 22:26

wonder the bh seem to have slowed down here but I have definite period pain and my boobs are absolutely killing me

On a slightly tmi note, anyone finding sex v uncomfortable at the mo? I'm a bit concerned that dh is slamming into my cervix, and baby is 1/5ths so is probably getting a headache. Not sure whether to keep trying or just tell the old man that there is none of that now til I go overdue! I mean how much of the prostaglandin will actually make a difference?!

When we went to NY without dd it was bliss, no way would I want to take her on a longhaul, Spain was 4 hours, and she slept for 2 of those, I was still breastfeeding and I definitly think that made travelling easier, on the train to Scotland I could not get her to go to sleep, had she been on mummy milk it would have been easy to get her to nap, if shes had a sleep the world is a nicer place. I think they are probably most portable in the first few months, while they are small enough to fit in a moses basket and still able to sleep though almost any distraction you can take them anywhere, much more worried about taking dd to France than travelling with dc2 who will be about 8 weeks old.

Though I do have a rose tinted view of newborns probably due to the fact I was in such a sleep deprived haze with dd I can't remember much. Dh keeps saying 'we did such and such' and I have no recollection of it.

stac14 · 24/06/2010 22:54

Evening ladies,

Just had to go back to babiesrus with cotbed as ours was all cracked. The one we got was internet only so i had to get another one thats a darker wood than our furniture but is cute. Oh well its built which is good. First baby thing organised yay. Feels good lol

I took ds on holiday abroad when he was 3 and he was great. Friends took their 4 month away last year and said it was far easier as she did loads of sleeping.

Braxton hicks are driving me mad too, didnt have them with ds either. Really getting to the stage were i cant wait till dd is here and its started to drag in. Would be better if we had a new arrival on here, cant wait to see everyones pics x

stac14 · 24/06/2010 23:24

gracie read that thread, woman was a fruit lol poor ta, hope your dh doesnt get crap like that x

memphis83 · 24/06/2010 23:47

dh i bought the foil take away pots and lids from the £ shop to put overs from meals in then its a 1 portion size if you want a snack or when dp is back at work plus you can write on the lid whats it it!
we went to see mil tonight as they are going away for 2 weeks, i so hope they come back to a grandson! for her birthday next year they want us all to go away together so thats abroad with an under 1 and i dont fly too well, but i suppose that takes worry out of me dealing with lo for flight as i will be high on tranquilisers!
i cant sleep, my legs are all restless so ive come back downstairs think dh thinks ive started from all tossing and turning im doing! also cant hold more than a thimble of pee! so up every 2 mins!
we stocked up on toilet roll and other bits and pieces tonight, i dont know what dh does with loo roll, i used to buy a 4 pack and it would last the month when i lived alone now its 4 a week and he works long days!

violetbubbles · 25/06/2010 07:15

Morning everyone!
I've been getting Braxton Hicks since about 25 weeks. Gets worse when I'm out and about or if I've done too much. It's always a sign that I need to sit down and relax .

So, that's me all booked in for my C-section on Tuesday. Got to be at the hospital for 7am...but might not have operation until much later in the day. I'll get DH to post a message on here later that night to let you all know! It's so, so exciting...and a little bit scary too. I'm not scared about baby being here...just still a bit apprehensive about the op!

I've just processed a big Tesco order too. I bought a lot of soup and frozen pizzas. I always planned to make up lots of food and freeze it but tbh it's not really high on my to do list for this weekend. Think we might take it really easy & preserve energy for next week. DH finishes up for 4 weeks paternity leave today so it's nice that we'll have a few days to chill before LO arrives. We can finalise the nursery and maybe even pop out to the cinema. .

X

Jojobil · 25/06/2010 08:28

So exciting Violet! We will be in the exact same situation on Tuesday! It's first come, first serve in my hospital too. And they told me to be there at 7am too. Worried a little about the non drinking could be hard if it's a hot day...

DesperateHousewife21 · 25/06/2010 08:37

Hi all,

Ive been getting Braxton Hicks since about 24 weeks as well and they are getting more frequent in the final few weeks now.

wwsw with regards to sex, Im finding certain positions quite tricky, its like its all changed shape 'down there' and something is getting in the way?! We tried it last night with me on top but it just wasnt working so I had to turn around and face his feet!

violet how exciting to know your going to have your LO on Tues! Id love to know the exact date. I think this means you will be the first to have a baby on this thread SO EXCITING!!

memphis yeah the 1 portion sized pots sounds like a really good idea. This is of course if I can be bothered to make up freezer food! I still need to get round to cleaning my bathroom

Im off to town with my mum today, shes going to buy us some baby bath towels and some cot bedding. She keeps telling me not to go into labour today as shes getting her sofa re-covered which she has waited months for!

violetbubbles · 25/06/2010 08:52

Jojobil - have you been told to fast from midnight the night before? I think I'm dreading this more than the spinal as I'm not good when I'm hungry...I feel really nauseous first thing in the morning! I'm hoping I get taken early so that I don't have time to psyche myself out!

DH21 - I know it's so exciting! I was just about to order something online there and realised that the baby would be here before the package arrived! . I can't believe you're still managing to have sex - well done! . I honestly can't remember the last time - oh no, wait...it was two months ago! Poor DH .

My new changing bag just arrived. I love it! Treated myself to the SkipHop Dash Deluxe (stripe). Off to fasten it to the pram now!

Chulita · 25/06/2010 09:03

LOL sex...my goodness - that's only happened in my dreams for months now, freaking bits haven't been good for ages. Have cracking dreams though that give me good ideas for once the baby's here!

We travelled with DD quite a bit, first took her off to ILs when she was 4 weeks and last went when she was 9 months but it was a nightmare every time. She's not a good sleeper and that makes all the difference! On the plane to France she screamed the entire time both directions, wouldn't bf or sleep, just screamed there was nothing we could do about it either

Jojobil · 25/06/2010 09:06

Yes Violet unfortunately no eating from midnight before and no drinking just sipping... They gave me a tablet to take at 6am. I am sure we will be just fine! No nail varnish allowed - I removed mine yesterday. My feet look so bare! Doing my eyebrows today and had the dilemma to do my hair or not... But decided it's best if I can put them in a pony tail.. They always tend to cut them too short... Waiting in anticipation for our little ones! I am eager to share how it went for you. It would be funny if our LO are born the same time ;)
DH has given me the morning off and I love it! He has taken DD to school. I am also getting Monday of! Woohoo! Everything is ready. I think. Even the baby monitor arrived yesterday I got the BT 150, which was recommended to me by friends. All is packed and set up. DD is going for a sleep over Monday night, so that we don't have to wake her up and stress her Tuesday morning. DH just has to put the bedding in the cot whilst I am away and put the pram in the back of the car. I have lots of steps up to my house so decided it is easier for me if the pram just stays in the car... I am soooo excited now! And a little worried too. About is he going to be all healthy. How will I cope after the operation.. The few days in the hospital. I thought maybe to rent a room, but then I might get lonely. Anyway I am sure it will all be just fine. Sorry for long self indulgent post!

memphis83 · 25/06/2010 09:12

violet and jojo looks like unless someone pips you to the post you two will be our 1st mummy's!!! when my step mum kad cs her 1st was done before 8am then her second there were lots of emergencies so she got pushed back til 2pm!
wwsw still managing sex...just we had a few arguments at the start as he felt wierd about my bump and he was turning me down but now as im so stiff and sore by the time he gets back from work its me turning him down, my bump also really bothers me now its bigger!
dh have a good day, does that mean you will now be banned from your mums sofa until youve had baby, you dont want waters popping on it

Jojobil · 25/06/2010 09:29

It's still 4 days to go Memphis anything could happen ;)
Sex wise I think 2 weeks or a week ago was last time. DH Was on top and he pushed my leg up a bit and I was in pain for a while after that Not really into it at all. I feel like a whale and my pelvis etc is too much in discomfort. I am 38 + 3 weeks now though and LO was 7 and half pounds at 37 weeks so he is pushing there... I read somewhere they can put a pound a week in the last weeks?

WickedWitchSouthWest · 25/06/2010 10:10

Ergh I feel really sickly this morning, a bit loose too. Hmm. Either the chilli last night (which wasn't hot at all) was a bad plan or things are starting. With dd I had a bout of squits and she arrived 9 hours later. Well, you never know.

gracie I really enjoyed that thread last night - oh to have so little to worry about

violet & jojo so exciting! Just get plenty of rest now to prepare

dh that's basically the 2 positions that are possible here too, although being 2 stone heavier than usual I'm slightly concerned about squashing him

memphis you've just reminded me....I'm sat on the sofa which is currently on ebay. I really should move...if it's anything like my waters with dd then even a couple of those pampers bed mats isn't going to save the sofa!

Hope everyone has a good day

kkfairybrains · 25/06/2010 10:15

wwsw i feel the same today and very light headed too.feel real horrible and have to go get my brazilian wax done now

WickedWitchSouthWest · 25/06/2010 10:22

oh no kk...I think it's just the weather getting to me now but the last thing i'd want is a wax right now! My mum is coming round to dye my hair and the thought of having my head upside down over the bath for rinsing off is making my stomach churn. Gonna lie down until she gets here I think. Good luck with the wax...
