Anyone elses partners concerned about labour interfering with the World Cup Final? Aparently if I go into labour during the match I'm on my own! Don't think he'd really abandon me

grumpypumpkin · 13/06/2010 21:11

viksam Oh dear you are not going to be very popular at work!! That is going to feel awful. I found that I felt much more emotional and needy than usual- am usually quite a hard-arse! Hope it goes OK.

I can't beleieve we have not had an early arrival yet, I know so many people in real life that popped early. I would be happy to go at 37 weeks which is a fortnights time, then will have done what I need to in terms of a bit of R&R after finishing work, and also she won't be technicaly premature so dont feel guilty for wishing her out!!

Hope all those wishing for early arrivals get them- heres to raspberry leaf tea and sex!

Have not got that "sunday feeling" for a change- maybe I can get my head round this maternity leave shiz after all!

DesperateHousewife21 · 13/06/2010 21:16

memphis sometimes I wish that DP had a smaller family, or at least a sane one!

stac no it wasnt at least its over now and hopefully wont ever have to do it again lol ok wishful thinking but should def be last one before LO arrives, then at least Ill have someone to keep me company!

evening girls,
Just trying to catch up- i thought i'd get on way more with finishing work but i haven't stopped! Think i told too many people when i finished and arranged everything for the first week!

MLIC your gifts from work are amazing! and you thought you'd get nothing!!!

Grumpy it is strange being finished work isn't it? no more monday morning feelings

stac sounds like you are going through a lot- sorry to hear your shower needed to be cancelled- hopefully your friends will rearrange hope your taking care of yourself x

DH oh dear- more MIL nightmares! AGH!!!

wonder my dh has bets on that my labour starts right after kick off!!! No talk of abandoning me yet tho

Has anyone else been watching the football? This bump of mine has being going crazy during the games! Think its the hooter things going off in the crowd! Anyone else getting the same?
dh is convinced its a boy and knows the football is on! lol!

We got LOs room more or less sorted today- it is so lovely, i just want to sit in there and wait now! Got a few canvases that i want to do something arty with - will see if i can engage my creative side this week!

WickedWitchSouthWest · 13/06/2010 21:44

oh I tried mlic but she was a clever lady and wanted to see my notes I'll see how much money is in the account and might book myself a session. My poor feet are suffering anyway (they're very flat and bony so carrying an extra couple of stone is pretty painful!) and dh is useless at foot massages.

Congrats to your friend - 6lb 7 is excellent for 37 weeks

My husband is nesting now, we've decided to completely redo the front room and I've given him permission to buy a big tv which has focussed his mind pretty well. He gets a bonus at the end of this month so it's the only time to do it really! Am so pleased, our room really doesn't work as it is, we only have a 2 seater and a single chair and it's not enough.

WWSW at the redoing your front room- our living room could really do with a makeover but dh just about had heart failure when i suggested this happen before baby arrives! Think it will be a job for next year Are you doing major work of just redecorating/moving things around?

Hello all! Had a lovely last baby-free break in the sunshine in Wales.

I have been drinking RLT for the last week and I guess I should up it to 2 cups a day now that I'm 34 weeks. Am a bit bored of it now though!

A friend of mine just had her baby 2 weeks early - if that happens to me it would come on the day of the World Cup final! DH says I have to keep my legs crossed.

I'm surprised no one has had their baby yet on this thread, but it's good - let's hope we all have full-term, healthy babies.

WickedWitchSouthWest · 13/06/2010 23:05

Sorry becky It's going to be a paint job, removal of an electric fire and surround and patching up of dado rail, new sofa and tv storage. Oh, quite a bit actually. Husband has also been given permission to buy a new tv which will be on the wall if the budget allows. He's dead happy, bless. I'm not sure we'll get it done before baby arrives but at least we'll know what we're doing and being summer, am hoping to be mostly outside!

I've given myself backache doing the garden today but have been vegging in the bath for an hour and feel v chilled now. Most unlike me, I tend to get bored after 10 minutes but I obviously needed it tonight!

Welcome back emster! If you're getting bored of the tea get some capsules too. I'm doing both

Right, bedtime! night night ladies!

Jojobil · 14/06/2010 04:45

Poor Stac - not long to go now! Yes I was told the belly bandit is ok for c-section.

Could not go to sleep until late and up since 4am.... Not the best really. Plus have been in lots of pain and discomfort this weekend. LO is squeezing the hell out of me. Oh well! I hope you all have a lovely week

violetbubbles · 14/06/2010 07:52

Hi everyone. Just been catching up on the thread before I start work for the day.

beckyg123 My LO has been moving LOTS during the football too. I also thought that it was because if the horns!!! .

Stac - sorry you had to cancel your baby shower. Hope you are feeling better today.

I'm 37+2 now and still have a breech baby. Going for another scan on Wednesday so that they can see which type of breech it is. I'm doing lots to try to turn the baby, including seeing a chiropractor three times a week. I'd totally recommend a chiropractor to anyone suffering with back and pelvis pain during pregnancy. My sessions have been brilliant and I've even been able to walk again. So much better than the NHS physio! They just offered me crutches and a pelvis band!

Hoping to dedicate more time to Mumsnet when I finish up for maternity leave, hopefully today or tomorrow!

Hope everyone else is doing well! xx

DeeLite · 14/06/2010 07:55

Wow - this maternity leave business is amazing. Gorgeous weather, a week packed with yoga, aqua-natal, pampering and baby clothes shopping: this is the life!

I used to say I wouldn't want to win the lottery as I wouldn't trust myself with too much money and time but I'm changing my mind. This life of leisure is definitely for me.

Okay, I know this is my first day of mat leave and the enthusiasm may have worn off in four weeks' time when I've run out of money, energy and things to do but I can't see myself tiring of this for a few weeks anyway.

Dee

Spirael · 14/06/2010 09:04

Morning all! My first day of Maternity Leave freedom today. Though I wonder how I ever had time to go to work, to be honest... I have so many chores to get done, then so many appointments this afternoon!

Glad I'm not working though, I didn't sleep well last night. My subconscious is trying to scare me with dreams of waking up to find the baby gone and other such silliness.

Lucky you with nice weather, DeeLite. Up here it's very grey, a bit drizzly and not particularly warm. Hopefully the weather will pick up a bit during the week though. I'd like it to be nice next weekend when my parents are visiting!

Had a lovely day out on Saturday visiting SIL and her BF with my DH. Delicious pub lunch, followed by a saunter around a local gala. The weather was lovely! Visited a baby store too and tore their displays apart as we all investigated every single changing bag, trying to find a good one.

Eventually decided on the Mamas and Papas Mylo range bag. A little more solid than some and not exactly the height of fashion (neither DH or I are particularly worried ), but fits nicely into the basket of the Britax B-Smart, or over the handles, and seems to be very practical and easily accessible. Will make a good picnic bag too, for after!

I'm all excited at the moment to have been chosen for the Appletiser testing that MN are running. WickedWitch did I see that you had been chosen as well? Can't wait for my box of drinks to arrive! I didn't have any idea they did all the different flavours now, it'll be nice to try them all.

And finally, a few tiny tweaks...

Chulita · 14/06/2010 09:16

Morning all!

It's a bit crap, DH was working all weekend from 7am til 5pm-ish and is working again all week so I feel like I've been robbed of a weekend

Ok, I need your help please - a friend of mine has been looking after DD while I have to go and be monitored every week and she's said to call her any time of the day or night if I have to go to hospital and she'll take DD or come over and sleep on the sofa til either my mum or mil can drive down and take over. She's got a little'un too so it's not like it's super easy for her to drop everything. I want to get her something to say thank you but have no idea what to get. If I get her vouchers for Next or something she'll spend them on her DD and I'd like to get something for her really. Any ideas?

I'm unravelling my first attempt at baby's blanket which is very demoralising but it just looked horrendous!

Hope you all have a lovely chilled out Monday

Jojobil · 14/06/2010 09:49

How about a Boden voucher Chulita? She can then decide if she wants something for herself or DD? Or I guess Next does both adults and kids clothes too. Silly me How about chocolates and flowers? That is always a lovely treat;)

beckyg123 · 14/06/2010 10:11

oohh appletizer testing- that does sound great! esp in the nice weather

chulita i'm rubbish with different gifts but was given a pressie a while back where they put together some bits themselves that they knew i liked- it included my fav hand cream, a couple of small yankee candles, an appropriate funny fridge magnet, a packet of novelty tissues- some other small bits and bobs and was wrapped up in clear cellophane with sparkly confetti inside and ribbon- felt like she put loads of thought into it, i loved it! i then copied the idea recently for a friend and she was thrilled!

I got my voucher through from boots for free changing bag, needed to buy a pack of pampers new born nappies to get it- it seems like a good deal to me and will go with our pram just not sure if it will be big enough, seems a little smaller than i'd expected however it seems enough to get started with!

kkfairybrains · 14/06/2010 10:11

chulita what about a little bottle of perfume or something? or some nice smellies?
anyone have any ideas for fathers day? hate picking out presents for dad because he has everything! prob just get him a t shirt or something.
so willing this baby to come now.everytime i sit on the toilet im hoping for a big gush! hae a real long busy day with work today and not looking forward to it but its my last long day i think so theres that to be thankful for! cant wait to finish!
how is everybody today? how you feeling stac?

DesperateHousewife21 · 14/06/2010 10:50

Morning all!

Cant remember if I said but DP and I went to look at a second hand Vauxhall Astra on Sat as we are looking to exchange our car (Seat Ibiza) and the salesman didnt think our car was worth the same as the Astra and we were a bit as its the same age, has done LESS miles and is in really good condition so we left feeling a bit disheartened but the owner of the garage called DP at work earlier and has agreed to a straight swap so this weekend we will go and pick up our new car which is going to be much more practical for the baby as its got 5 doors, big boot etc. Exciting!

This week Im going to wash the baby clothes and start getting things together for the hospital bag, looking at my list alot of the things I cant really pack til the last min. Ive bought 2 packs of those big maternity pads so thats 20 pads, thinking I might need more though!

What is everyone upto today? Ladies on maternity leave give me inspiration! Am getting cabin fever and baby isnt even here yet

OP posts:
Chulita · 14/06/2010 10:53

I've taken to buying DH different Lego models for pressies - he's got everything he needs and I'm of the opinion that you can never have too much Lego He's not into clothes/cars/footie so not much I can do there!
becky that's what DH and I like to do for wedding presents! We're so far from shops now that it'll all have to be online stuff. I might have a potter once DD's in bed.
I've still got so long to go, I'm praying for a 37weeker on the one hand but on the other if I do, my mum will be nowhere near and I might have to have mil round instead Don't want that!

Spirael · 14/06/2010 10:57

The list looks fine. Oops for missing some people out! I'll have to start going back and counting the number of rows to make sure people haven't accidentally been dropped off, rather than just neatening up the latest version. Fortunately I should have time now!

Maybe for your friend Chulita you could get her a voucher for a nice local restaurant, or theatre/cinema tickets, and also give her a slip of paper to redeem with you/DH for one free babysit of her DD for that evening?

I have the voucher for the Boots changing bag too, beckyg! I keep meaning to go down and pick it up at some point. I still have a whole load of money off vouchers that Pampers sent me, and none of them say I can't use the vouchers together, so the bag could prove even cheaper.

The bag does look a bit small, but I figure the Boots one will be good if just going short distances, like popping into the supermarket with LO put into a trolley seat rather than using the pram, or when I'm just dropping DH off at work. My plan is to leave it set up in the car most of the time.

Then I can save my huuuuge Mylo changing bag for days out or bigger trips into town or such. Though most of the time it can live downstairs as the second changing point, so I don't have to go all the way up to the nursery (one whole flight of stairs - the horror!) if LO needs changing while we're downstairs. [lazy]

I've just deep cleaned my bathroom and now I'm exhausted! On the plus side my bathroom sparkles.
