Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
rachelfruitloop · 26/05/2010 06:05

Kaffa, poor you! I know exactly what you mean with the stitches. I experienced the same thing with DS1, the first week I felt like I'd never heal but by the end of the second week the stitches were feeling much better. I'd advise to keep eating as much fibre as you can or get some lactalose (sp?) if you haven't already to make sure your poo is as soft as possible.

homebirthmummy4 · 26/05/2010 08:24

hi all. 6 days past edd now. so fed up. have been having breathtaking but painless twinges from 6pm every night for last 2 weeks. was told last thursday that baby engaged up to its shoulders - i thought so as i could then fit a hand between boobs and bump. this morning i can fit TWO hands between boobs and bump (where has baby gone ). have been feeling pressure in whole pelvic area for ages but STILL NO BABY! at least i havent thrown up today, first time in months. sorry for the grumble but i am soooo fed up now.

AliMouse · 26/05/2010 08:54

Morning all,

Working on the premis that if there is ever a day you're least likely to give birth, it's your due date, so I stayed up really late and had the best night's sleep. Even my DS2 didn't wake me up early for a change. I really needed it - I'm too old for this caper. I think I'm the oldest mum on here! And at 40 I'm feeling it.

Taking my little guy to an indoor play place this afternoon so he can burn off some energy while I read a brainless magazine and mong out with a cup of tea. Yes, it has come to that.

Hope you are all well. Poor sassles - hope she gets better, must be scary.

AliMouse · 26/05/2010 09:39

KaffaCakes - great birth story - sounds like you are on the mend. Out of interest - how did the pethedine help? I had a bad experience when I had it but I'd like to know if you thought it was useful. I'd forgotton about The First Poo. Terrifying.

Hope your stitches ease a little soon and your DP does a couple of earlies so you can sleep.

MoggMum · 26/05/2010 11:46

Sorry for 'me' post but feeling bit upset following home visit by midwife this morning. 40+10 today and although baby no longer back-to-back, head is not engaged and cervix still too posterior to perform sweep. MW doesn't think this baby is going to come out without help so looks like induction is inevitable and I'm worried I'll end up having C-section now

Hope all the other overdue ladies are fairing a bit better!

Carikube · 26/05/2010 13:28

Moggmum sorry your MW visit has upset you. Hope that head engages soon and you can avoid too much intervention.

Kaffa am very impressed that you only had G&A for your episiotomy. I remember with DD1 the pain I was in for days after my labour due to all the stitches and not being able to sit down. If it's any consolation, I had a tear this time and have hardly felt a thing - I can't get over how different it is so there is hope that sometimes stitches down there don't mean unbearable pain.

Alice is 5 days old today so has been weighed and had her heel prick test. She is 1 oz above her birth weight which I'm very pleased about as DD1 lost over a pound. She also managed to not cry during the heel prick test.

And after having babyblues last night and crying for no particular reason, today I am all positive - back to pre-pregnancy weight and in to some pre-pregenancy clothes so long may it continue!

Look how short the list of us waiting is getting! And I'm still on it....SOB!
nimk big congrats! And thanks to Mr Nimk for updating us

angel thanks also for updating on sophie, what amazing weights for twins! I can also massively sympathise with you - pressure on pelvis, achey hips etc I am sooo fed up and weepy, let's both go cry in a corner!

I'm thinking James must have given birth she's gone v quiet. Anything on facebook?

Poor sassles not nice not to be able to get home with her lovely boy...Mr Sassles if you're reading please send her our love!

pigley I am so impressed at you getting out and about so much supermum!

katey glad you are feeling happier about the feeding bless your ds! Also, it was you who had the awful itchy bump wasn't it? The last week or two the stretch marks under my belly button are SO ITCHY it's driving me insane. Did you find anything that helped?? (Though of course I'm hoping not to be pregnant for much longer )

kaffa thanks for posting your birth story, eek sounds horrible about the post-partum-poo! Get lots of dried apricots and figs in!

homebirthmummy you can join mine and angel's crying in the corner if you want..I also have big sympathy for you! Horrible isn't it

ali happy due date! Hope you enjoyed the gossip mags and tea

mogg I can just picture me writing that exact post on Saturday after my supposed sweep cos I'll be 40+10 then too. Induction doesn't always mean c-section. One of my NCT friends was induced and only had a 5-hour labour it was her first baby too.

Well, I am 40+7 today and the nesting instinct has finally kicked in Have scrubbed kitchen and bathroom, hoovered and dusted and planning to bake some cakes this afternoon. I then had a 20 minute cry lying on the bed feeling sorry for myself as I am getting nonstop texts/emails/facebook messages asking for news & some practically having a go at me for not getting a move on! Don't they think I'm sick of waiting too
Also feeling stressed by family members/friends' plans to visit baby & now because it's not here yet they'll all be descending during half term (next week) when it would have been spread out if baby had come before Think I need to go shopping and stock up on teabags and biscuits!

Sorry for me rant hope my fellow overdue-ees aren't in quite such a tiz!

cupcakefairy · 26/05/2010 14:01

Aaaaargh and just as I posted that, another text has arrived "any sign yet? If not this is getting a bit silly now"
Wish they'd all just bugggeeeeer OFF!

Sorry

Carikube hooray for positivity; can I borrow some?

OP posts:
rachelfruitloop · 26/05/2010 14:23

Carikube we seem to be living parallell lives! 5 days on, I also have a tear this time that is surprisingly painless after the episiotomy with DS1. I'm also feeling better today (got mandarin oil going in the burner) had a bout of the blues last night. Eric was also so good for his heel prick test today, didnt cry much at all! He's also put on 2 oz, now 11 lb 4! Glad to hear Alice is doing so well too!

rachelfruitloop · 26/05/2010 14:37

cupcake I feel your frustration, I was so fed up waiting for DS1, the texts are so annoying, as if it's not on your mind enough! I'm really shocked I'm not with you overdue ladies still! I hope it happens soon for you all! Sending positive vibes!

LuckyC · 26/05/2010 14:50

Hollyoaks! Rachels! Gils! Carikube! All names I remember from teh early days. CONGRATS!

And congrats to all other new mums!

Matilda is asleep during the day without being attached to me in a sling or cuddle for the first time since she was two weeks old. See, watch me type with 2 hands! Watch me make a cup of tea!

Bugger, she is waking up. Watch me sing and rock and go sh sh sh sh sh sh like a loon.

I am actually a bit hallucinate-y and high from sleep deprvation. we have BAD NIGHTS at the moment, la la lalaaaaa.

alle01 · 26/05/2010 16:19

hi all
kaffa, in can sympathize with you, i also had an episotomy with stiches and it hurt like hell for the first week, the second week, it hurt but was more tolerable, this third week is just a bother but doesn't actually hurt, but it all being healed for more than a week, so the mw says, it will pass, it's better than a c-sec, imo. but don't let me talk about the first poo, still hurts thinking about it...

congrats to all the new mums, hope you all getting help from the dh, i will bragg about mine, as he is back to work, still gets up at night (last night he didn't sleep until 2 am) so i can sleep a little, taking care of a baby is harder than i thought, cooks dinner when he gets back from work, leaves my lunch ready for the next day, to make sure i eat, does the washing up, as i can't be arsed, does the laundry in the morning before going to work and cleans the house in the weekend,... how good is that!, my friend has a 3 months old baby, and she wants my dh to tell off her boyfriend as he does literally nowt!
to all those waiting, specially overdue, i can feel for you, hope everything turns up well in the end, this time in 3 years time we won't remember a thing and most of us will be willing to get pregnant again... can't wait till the time when i don't remember...

RacquelWelsh · 26/05/2010 16:30

Hello ladies.. congratulations to all the new babes that have arrived lately. It's great to read all the stories.

cupcake I feel the same as you re all the texts/emails/FB enquiries - am only 3 days over my due date - but if anything important was happening I'D LET YOU KNOW NOW LEAVE ME ALONE! Grrrrrr!

Saw my midwife this morning, she is coming to my house on Sunday morning to do a membrane sweep. If nothing's happened within 48 hours after the sweep then I'm being booked into the hospital an hour away for an induction later in the week.

At least it's cooled a bit here, the heat was getting to me over the weekend.

A friend of mine who's into planting and harvesting crops in harmony with the moon (!???) reckons they'll be a glut of babies born tomorrow as it's a full moon. Grasping at straws - me?!

Wishing everyone well.

Carikube · 26/05/2010 16:51

cupcake don't stress about the visitors - number one rule is that they shouldn't even come if they're not at least going to make their own tea (and a cup for you of course) and if they are even halfway decent they will do something else useful whilst they're there. Anyone who expects you to get things for them should be given short shrift IMO. And turn your phone off/ignore emails etc as you really don't need anything to get you more stressed out.

alle it sounds like your DH is a complete star. Mine is not too bad but he's not doing too much at the moment as my parents and MIL are staying. The real test will be next week when we're on our own and he's off work as he does like his sleep and I don't know how easy he will find it getting up with DD1 in the mornings if I'm focusing on DD2.

Lucky hope it gets better. DD2 has slept so much today and although it's lovely, I just keep thinking the whole time that I would rather she was doing this at night rather than during the daylight hours - she went 4 hours without stirring today but of course we won't be likely to get a repeat performance at night...

Rachel we do seem to be living parallel lives - let's just hope one of us gets to 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep at night soon and passes the vibes on to the other one

rachelfruitloop · 26/05/2010 16:59

Hi again ladies,

Just seen on FB that MyFirstBump had her baby girl this morning!

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 26/05/2010 17:18

Congratulatins Den, Luckymiller, NimK and MFB Tomlin, Carikube and Pigley - fantastic news about getting into your pre-pregnancy clothes! I can wear some of my jeans - but they are ones I saved from a couple of years ago, before I had my personal trainer and lost 7kgs. I can't get into my immediately pre-pregnancy trousers yet, but they are all size 8 , so it will be a while yet before I can get back into those, I think!

Hollyoaks - v jealous of your 3 full nights' sleep! Hope it continues all the way up to the birth so you can bank some for afterwards!

ML- being a milk donor sounds like a fantastic thing to do.

Morph, Ali and pigley thanks for the tips for getting Felix to settle in the moses basket. Funnily enough, since I posted about it, he has been no trouble at all! He still likes falling asleep on me, but isn't fussing so much when I transfer him to the basket now. Will definitely bear your tips in mind in case he goes back though!

Kateyjane - sorry about your b'feeding problems. I hope you feel much happier having made the decision to switch to formula. Our breastfeeding lady on the NCT course said that after your baby has fed on the colostrum, every additional day you manage to feed for is a bonus, and it sounds like you managed well over an additional week, so I think you should be proud of the days you did do, and not worry about switching. I may well be interested in the Medela Swing, will contact you on FB.

Squirt - what a traumatic birth story, you sound remarkably cheerful now. Your DH sounds fantastic, and how wonderful to come home to a lovely clean house and lots of nice presents! I hope you're recovering well from the birth and enjoying motherhood.

Rachel - thanks for posting your birth story, I found it absolutely fascinating. It sounds like you did brilliantly, and I completely agree with you that the midwife's comments were really unreasonable, especially given the fact that she had access to your notes, and you had warned her about the quick progression of your previous labour. My community midwife last week made a comment about me having had a traumatic birth, which shocked me a bit, as I thought it was really easy (apart from the last 10 minutes when they got the forceps involved!). I guess maybe they have a different interpretation of an easy birth!

Booboo - fantastic news about baby not being breech after all. I hope all the turning tricks work out!

sassles - hope you get well soon and get to go home and enjoy your time with baby Samuel.

Kaffa - your comment about your lavender and tea-tree oil bath reminded me that I wanted to say a big thank you to whoever it was that recommended lavender and tea-tree oil baths a while ago (was it Rachel and Sweet Kitty?). They made such a difference to me in the first week after the birth, really soothing and relaxing on the stitches and bruising (I had a forceps delivery with episiotomy and 2nd degree tear too). I echo what Alle says - the stitches and bruising hurt like hell for the first week, but calmed down after that and now, two weeks later I feel pretty much completely healed. It's the knots at the end of the stitches that really kill! My recommendation for making the post-birth poos easier is to eat dried apricots and drink smoothies.

Cupcake - hope you don't have to wait too much longer, it must be so frustrating waking up every day and wondering "will this be the day?". Who will update the lists while you're busy with your newborn though?! We'll all fall apart without you to keep us organised!

We haven't heard from Littleowls for a while. I hope she and Joel are doing OK.

Quick question - does anyone who's breastfeeding find that their LO is a bit more restless if you have drunk caffeine just before a feed? I can't work out if it's my imagination or not.

Better go. Felix has been sleeping since about 3.30 and I want to go and raid my wardrobe before he wakes up, to see if I have any outfits that will fit for the wedding I'm going to on Saturday!

pigleychez · 26/05/2010 17:33

Sassles- You poor thing Hope you feel better soon and you get to come home. Thanks Mr Sassles for updating us.

Great news about Sophies twins What fantastic weights! She must of been huge!

Katey- Glad Thomas is doing well and that you had a good first day alone.

Kaffa- Hope the stitches improve soon. Re poos- with my 3rd degree tear from DD1 I was sent home from hospital with laxatives/ stool softeners which really helped 'Soften the blow' so to speak

Moggmum- Sorry your feeling down. Im sure youve tried everything but bouncing on a gym/ birthing ball is suppose to help baby engage. Shout at me to shut up if you want

Carikube- Glad to hear Alice is doing well

Cupcake- I remember those overdue days very well along with all the texts and calls..... So very frustrating! Do they think you have had the baby and hidden it away, stuffing a pillow up your jump and judt not told them!! I feel your and all overdue mummies pain! ((hugs))

Rachel- Glad Eric is doing well too

Alle- My DH is another fab one. He cooks and cleans without having to be asked and is very domesticated Very lucky!

MDM- Glad that Felix is settling better now

Went to the clinic this morning for a MW appointment. All is well with both me and Lucy so have been signed off and over to the Health visitors care. MW was suprised how quickly my uterus has gone back down to normal.
Have the HV coming tomorrow for the hearing test etc.

After that we took a trip to Ikea which is about an hours drive away. Bought tons of stuff for DD1's playhouse and spent a fortune. Then onto the huge Toys R Us where we got her a slide for the garden and gained ideas for her birthday presents for July. The playhouse now looks fab, with hanging wall pockets, a toy box for her toys and a little table and chairs. Very sweet
Lucy was fab and slept the whole time apart from a quick feed in the car!

AnAngelWithin · 26/05/2010 19:36

oooh might meet myfirstbump yet then....my waters have just gone!

rachelfruitloop · 26/05/2010 19:48

hooray Angel that's fantastic news! Good luck!

cupcakefairy · 26/05/2010 21:56

Hi racquel, I'm kind of glad there are still other overdue ladies left with me! I have a sweep this weekend too.

mdm haha, I'm sure someone responsible can be left in charge of the list; I'll start interviewing candidates

Thanks for all your sympathy everyone after my moaning! Gonna convince dh to dtd again tonight...come ON baby!

OP posts:
cupcakefairy · 26/05/2010 21:57

Oh nd huge congrats to myfirstbump and go go GO to angel

OP posts:
sweetkitty · 26/05/2010 22:12

Sorry not been on cannot get 5 mins am now typing lest handed baby on right boob.

Angel - oh how mega exciting go girl

Things a bit better here am now trying very dim lights and no nappy changes so just feed lying down and back to sleep, so far working well he's up twice in the night but straight back to sleep. Evenings still a bit hit and miss but cannot have everything. I am now having a huge guilt trip about having to leave him to cry sometimes, not playing with DD3 enough and not having enough time for DD1 and 2, feel very stretched right now

Anyway on a positive note Jacob is now in 0-3month clothes and you can see him really filling out, I am back in pre pregnancy jeans and have about 3lbs or so to lose.

Sorry for complete lack of personals so much I want to say about BFing/newborns sleep or lack of and even those first poos! You know me I am quite chatty, hopefully will catch up more tomorrow. Am off to bed with my new little man.

booboomonster · 26/05/2010 23:23

kaffa thanks for birth story - it gave me something to read at 4.30am when I couldn?t sleep this morning! Glad Albert is doing well. I remember the first poo worries, and I only had a graze so I can totally imagine your anxiety. hopefully, like others say - it will improve quickly.

ali was thinking about you today on our shared due date - assume nothing happened? Nor here - though like you, last time I planned stuff on the due date and ended up giving birth? no such luck this time! Though have been having tmi alert a bit of the runs today and yesterday so wondering if that means something or whether I?ve just eaten something dodge. Haven?t actually tried anything to bring on labour yet - my own personal due date is friday so I?m kind of not expecting anything before then. But have a long walk planned tomorrow when DH is around to look after DD.

Mogg I don?t think that baby not engaging or posterior position should mean caesarian - I?ve been reading up a bit on this as they told me yesterday baby is posterior. It also doesn?t make it impossible to perform a sweep, so perhaps it?s just that you are not ready to go yet? My first DD didn?t engage until labour had begun and this does happen with some women. I can imagine one gets increasingly anxious with each overdue day (I think I?m about to find out) and of course caesarian is a fear that many of us have. But try not to stress if you can. Good luck! and good luck to the other overdue mums and mumstobe - homebirth, ali, cupcake, raquel and co!

Congratulations to myfirstbump!

Good to hear how everyone is getting on with the newborns - making the whole thing a bit more real though I still find it a bit weird to think one minute there?s a bump, the next, a baby and a whole lot of work to do! So it?s good to be reminded of all the post birth stuff - nice and nasty!!

Someone said it was a full moon tonight - lets hope it does have some effect girls!

booboomonster · 26/05/2010 23:24

oh and good luck angel finally something is happening! you must be so relieved, hope it goes well.

AnAngelWithin · 26/05/2010 23:41

well wasn't much in the way of waters...a couple of sudden little bouts (hopefully not just wetting myself!!). been having contractions about every 15 minutes... I dont know what to do really, if i ring the hospital and have to go in its getting late. im coping ok anyway at the mo.
