New thread to welcome some more new babies! Let's have a flurry this weekend please!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
AliMouse · 24/05/2010 07:12

Congratulations to all the new mums! There seems to be a few overdue ladies gone off the radar, so I'm hoping that is good news for them.

SK my first boy had colic (which is what it sounds like your little one has). We could do nothing for him except vigorous bouncing (good for the thighs) and he rather enjoyed Dean Martin (which now reminds me of vigorous bouncing and sore thighs). It will pass, but I do sympathise - every hour feels like forever when they cry, especially when you are so tired. Baby massage might help too. And earplugs .

Looks like another scorcher today. My big boy has gone off to a PGL (parents get lost!) action holiday in Dorset with his school this week so I'm a bit bereft, but excited for him and it's cleared the decks a little for the birth. DS2 at nursery all day, so I'm going for a brisk walk to see if i can't encourage some movement.

Look forward to all your updates later!

thegauntlet · 24/05/2010 07:29

am i too late to join this? Im due with my first on the 31st, so sort of fit in with the may babies theme.... lets hope i dont go overdue. i am feeling very nauseous this morning. As with everying; im hoping that it is a sign of pre-labour...

Hollyoaks · 24/05/2010 07:31

Morning all, been up since 5am watching Lost and I'm still none the wiser.

Congratulations Sheep and Peaky

Congratulations Mollybob, very impressive to post the birth announcement a couple of hours after the birth.

SK - sorry your having a tough time, no advice unfortunately but hope things improve.

Well, I've been having painful contractions every 15-20 mins since I woke this morning. Not getting too excited and dh off too work, but fingers crossed something is starting to happen.

Hope everyone has a good day.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 24/05/2010 08:50

Wow, so many new babies now! Congratulations to all new mums.

SK - sorry you're struggling, I hope things improve for you.

Hollyoaks - hope today is the day for you

Thegauntlet - welcome to the thread!

Rachel - so glad you had a good birth! at the weight!

Corin is feeding like mad here, seems to be attached almost all the time. I think he might be wanting more because of the heat? DH is back at work today so will see how it all goes.

homebirthmummy4 · 24/05/2010 09:38

please can i be added to the still waiting list, 4 days overdue with baby no 4.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 24/05/2010 09:50

Well done mollybob! I just love the name you've chosen, it's really pretty. Sometimes contractions don't follow the textbooks do they, they may never get longer or more regular, doesn't mean they aren't doing their job necessarily!

Hollyoaks fingers crossed this is it for you.

Welcome to the thread thegauntlet, it's never too late to join! Although I'm 40+10 and if you pop before me, I will cry.

So for all you ladies with stop start contractions like me, I was reading about it in a Sheila Kitzinger book last night and apparently it's called prodromal labour or pre-labour - it's sometimes called false labour but that's not right because even though the contractions disappear after a bit while they're there they are doing work to efface, soften and maybe even dilate the cervix. I had this for several days with my first, it was very frustrating but when things kicked off properly it was a reasonably fast textbook labour, so I'm hoping the same will happen this time.

Just thought this might give some of you hope if you're fed up of all the stop start business and starting to doubt your body!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 24/05/2010 09:58

Also welcome to homebirthmummy4, we seem to have quite a few mums on here having their fourth or even fifth babies, I've got nothing but admiration for you mad women I have no energy for the one child I have right now, really don't know how you do it!

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 24/05/2010 09:59

Morning all!

Congratulations mollybob and peaky - more good names! Mollybob - it's quite easy to name-change - instructions are here. Don't forget to tell us what you've changed to so we know it's still you!

Welcome thegauntlet, never too late to join in!

Pigley - sounds like you have a fantastic weekend. We're off to a wedding next Saturday with Felix - one of our uni friends is marrying one of my law school friends, so we'll know loads of people at the wedding. As a bonus it's fairly local too, so we're really looking forward to it. No idea what I'm going to wear though. I have some clothes I saved from a few years ago when I was 1 dress size bigger than my pre-pregnancy size, so will have to dig those out and see if there's anything suitable. I don't dare to try on my immediately pre-pregnancy stuff yet, although my bump has almost completely disappeared. (Can't believe I thought I was going to miss it!!!).

SK - Jacob sounds a bit like Felix in his eating and nappy changing patterns. Felix always falls asleep on the boob (he unlatches himself then rests his head on the boob), but he also tends to do a poo mid-feed (he does about 6 poos a day!), so needs a change after feeding, which wakes him up, and then he wants to feed a bit more. He doesn't cry much, fortunately (just when he's having his nappy changed at the moment, but I'm not counting my chickens yet...). In the daytime if DH is around and can bring me food, drink, laptop, mobile etc., then I'm happy to let Felix doze on the boob (he always makes me think of that Cornershop song with the lyric "everybody needs a bosom for a pillow"). But at night, when I want to sleep, it's a bit frustrating as he wakes up and wants more food when you try to put him back in his basket! We have found the pampers nappies fine though, to be honest, although he has been in the micro newborn size, which are quite a snug fit.

Yesterday my breast pump melted in the microwave steriliser !!! I've no idea how that happened. DH has gone out this morning to get me a new one, and we're going to get a new microwave too, to be on the safe side, as ours is a bit temperamental and old.

Ali - enjoy your day of peace!

Hollyoaks - fingers crossed that your contractions are the start of labour proper!

Heffa - Felix has been feeding like mad the last two days as well, I think it must be the hot weather - they must be feeding to keep hydrated as much as for the food aspect I guess.

Hope everyone has a good day. It sounds like it's the last hot one - cooling down from tomorrow.

alle01 · 24/05/2010 10:26

hi all,
can't keep with this thread, great to hear about all the new births,...well done, everyone!, everybody waiting: don't dispair, i know going overdue is horrible, and i didn't have this heat...no tips from me, i'm afraid, i just suffered, only good thing, two weeks after the birth, i can hardly remember that now...
oscar is getting a bit better with breastfeeding, less formula now, but getting colics, i think, he can't settle, i am changing to anticolic formula, any tips any one? also how you sleep a baby who won't? maybe the health visitor will know...

AnAngelWithin · 24/05/2010 10:33

welcome to the newbies!!! Never too late to join in the chatter!!!

Well, due date is today. Got the midwife later. Might try and beg for a sweep, otherwise next week I will have all 4 kids with me (as its half term week!) and thats NOT the time I want it doing!!! I actually slept last night. ALL NIGHT!!! Couldn't believe it! DH commented on how much better I look this morning for it!!! haha. Maybe baby will put in an appearance now I am refreshed?! Was nice to be able to breeze round school this morning not looking shattered and people commenting on how well I look considering I am due today haha.

Yes MDM, cooling down this week. Thank goodness! I have been a hermit all weekend!!Useless with the heat at the best of times let alone when I am the size of a whale.

TomlinTowers · 24/05/2010 11:19

Hi all

Firstly, many congrats to all the new mummies - there are so many now! I love reading all the different birth stories, the variety of experiences are just amazing.

Carikube - the retained placenta sounds scary but it seems like you are taking it in your stride - make sure you take it easy for a few days!

Rachel - 11lb 2 - I bet that stung a bit! Much respect to you! Was this your first?? You do know the old wives' tale about second babies being approx 10% bigger than your first....?!

Alle - good news on the breastfeeding

Good luck to all those with contractions/shows/etc - hope something happens soon. Much sympathy to you all in the heat!

Lovely to read about everyone's weekends - pigley, sounds like a good party! MDM - I've never heard of a breast pump actually melting!! Enjoy the wedding at the weekend.

We aren't planning much at the moment, just soooo hot! DS1 has spent all weekend in the paddling pool with DH. He is at softplay at the moment with DH which at least has air con so hopefully will not come home boiling hot! Sophie is still doing well, starting to be a bit more awake in the afternoons now, but still sleeping really well (touching wood furiously as I type!) and feeding like a dream. We have different favourite boobs though - she loves suckling on the right, which is the one that is still quite sore when she latches, whereas I feel she has a better latch on the left, so we are having a battle of wills to make sure she is getting even amounts of milk from both, otherwise I end up looking lopsided!

Also, I don't want to brag or anything, but I have actually managed to do up a pair of pre-preg linen trousers today. Woop woop! It took me weeks to get back into pre-preg clothes after DS1, so am feeling very pleased with myself! Just need to lose a stone and then can buy some new clothes - I have promised myself that I am not buying anything new for myself until I am back at pre-DS1 weight/size, and as I love shopping, that is a big incentive for me!

Hope everyone has a good day and will try and keep up with all the posts! Love the new thread title, cupcake!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 24/05/2010 12:37

MDM - glad Corin's not the only one feeding lots with the hot weather! It's a bit cooler today and he's been asleep most of the morning Probably doesn't bode well for tonight!

Tomlin - congratulations on being back into pre-preg clothes!

Angel - glad you had a good night's sleep!

Alle01 - glad the breastfeeding's getting a bit better

Homebirthmummy4 - welcome to the thread!

booboomonster · 24/05/2010 12:50

Just a quickie to say congratulations mollybob! And welcome to the newbies. I am happy to wait til hot weather goes... Labour is tiring enough! But good luck to those on the cusp - James , hollyoaks etc

cupcakefairy · 24/05/2010 12:51

Hello ladies..hooray for more births! Big congrats to peaky and molly! Fantastic

hollyoaks I am of things starting for you...but happy for you too obviously

ali hope the walking gets things going! My feet are really swollen & the right one hurts so much when I put weight on it otherwise I'd be out power walking too to get this baby out!!

angel also of a full night's sleep! I'm up 3 times for loo trips now but suppose it's nothing compared to what life with a newborn will be like!

james so sorry you're still here but glad those contractions are actually doing something! I really desperately want some contractions...40+5 today ho hum. Hows your mil holding up?? My sister has this week off & is poised ready to visit when baby comes so I reeeeally hope it does soon

MDM enjoy the wedding we have one when lo will be around 4 or 5 weeks old I'm excited about showing baby off

Carikube hope you're recovering ok. A friend had a similar experience to you recently except part of her placenta was retained & they didn't know..2 weeks after birth she started hemorrhaging all over the place in a restaurant toilet absolutely horrible & she was rushed to hosp etc so really hope you're ok as it's v traumatic.

pigley you're another one I'm of my due date buddy who has a lovely dream baby & I am still waiting, sob! (I know you were overdue with dd1 though so won't begrudge you too much )

Welcome to the newbies too...I will add you to the list

Welcome to the newbies

James - i read your link and that sounds like what I'm having. Still having painful contractions but not regular. It's very frustrating as my last labour started with regular contractions every 5 mins apart from the beginning. None of this faffing around. Just hope the link was right and all of these niggles are doing something so when labour hits its short.

MDM - good to hear from you, glad everything is going well.

Alle - good to hear bf is going well.

Angel - funnily enough I have now had three full nights sleep in a row!!!!! Didn't want to put it on here for all those up with newborns but despite the cold and earache I've got I feel more energetic than I have in weeks. Good luck for getting your sweep.

Tomlin - well done on the weight loss, I'm sure the bf will help you get the next stone off and then happy shopping

Cupcake - thanks for updating the list again, sending positive labour vibes your way. You may still beat me yet, contractions are still coming but very irregular and really spaced out. It will probably all amount to nothing.

Weather is very overcast here but still very hot. DD in nappy only but looks like its going to chuck it down so keeping her inside today. A good old thunder storm would do wonders for clearing the air and my headache.

memorylapse · 24/05/2010 14:21

glad to hear that some of you ladies in waitocing have managed a decent nights sleep..stock up while you can!

I am now a milk donor to the local hospitals via the milk bank..I wanted to give something back so its lovely knowing that my breast milk will be helping sick and prem babies at the hospital where Olivia was born

AliMouse · 24/05/2010 16:01

memorylapse that's such a nice thing to do!

I just did a bit of garden pottering and nearly fainted in the heat. Then had the idea of positioning the sprinkler so it hits my legs when it swings around as I read the paper. Genius! Glad cooler weather is on the way though.

Just saw the midwife and have been booked in for my 41 week visit on DS2's 4th birthday. I dearly hope the baby comes before that! Can you imagine - 'here you are darling, we got you something for your birthday - a brother!' Anyone else got two children with the same birthday? I'm imagining a rivalry of biblical proportions...

myfirstbump · 24/05/2010 16:28

James & MDM - still no more signs... Still getting the same twinges. Can't call them pains - they're way more bearable than period pains. I've basically been getting them every half an hour or so today. James, thanks for that link. It's very reassuring. Hope you're feeling ok too and things start to get moving for you soon.

ML - I've gone all teary reading that. What a lovely idea!

Angel - thinking of you today. Hope you get on ok with the MW. Maybe we will run into each other at the hospital after all??

Congrats Mollybob and peaky Hollyoaks I got up at 5 to watch Lost too! ALthough I wish I hadn't - I feel so let down! So after all these years and intriguing and tangled up storylines, it's the theory everyone had at the end of episode 1...

I've had four phonecalls today to see how I'm doing. Don't get me wrong, it's great that people are thinking of me, but it almost feels like I'm letting people down. I know I'm not, and they're only being kind, but it's more frustrating knowing that I'm waiting for this to happen to my body, and for everyone else they just get to see the cute little baby without all the effort of getting it here. Whinge over. I'm don't even think you could call me overdue yet - it's only been a day!!

first1 · 24/05/2010 16:47

ML - thats such a nice gesture!

Mollybob/ peaky - congrats!

alimouse - genius discovery re the sprinkler! I managed to sit outside for all of 10mins with Closer before Id had enough.

Am I the only Brit excited by the cooler weather from tomorrow? 41 weeks today . Induction booked for Friday and so desperate for baby to arrive by herself, but really not hopeful.

cupcakefairy · 24/05/2010 17:05

mfb I'm totally with you on the people checking up thing! You feel like you're letting them down because they've made plans to visit or whatever ...and so so true that they just get to see the cute baby! I wish I could be someone who just gets to hear my news & see a cute pic rather than having to go through what I need to to get there

first1 lol, I am glad it'll be cooler by tomorrow but am also rather enjoying getting a bit more colour to me...have been bronzing the bump slightly in the hope that if it ever when it shrinks down it will be doubly tanned (not that anyone will even get to see it thanks to hideous stretch marks!)

ali hope baby does arrive before your ds2's birthday! Don't know anyone with siblings born on same day but I do know a Mum who gave birth on her own birthday! Not sure if that's a good present or not!!

hi all. feeling sore from being poked and prodded at MW Sweep booked for next monday afternoon at home. Bank holiday monday. DH will be working if baby isn't here by then. Had some strong BH this evening, they actually brought some tears to my eyes!!

MyFirstBump, yes we may! You never know!! are you going on the MW unit ?

Morph2 · 24/05/2010 17:52

MDM- my DS wouldn't settle in moses basket either and only wanted to sleep on me. One of mums friends gave me a tip which seems to have worked so far (fingers crossed). Roll up a little blanket and put it next to them in the Moses basket so it makes the edges of the moses basket narrower. Apparently it makes them feel more secure and closed in like they were in the womb, as the moses basket can feel quite wide for a little one likes yours.

Carikube · 24/05/2010 18:54

I'm just catching up with posts that I missed whilst I was away...I really feel for all of you still waiting in this heat and I hope that the promised cooler weather arrives and makes life more comfortable.

pigley I remember you saying you had similar problems to me with regards to nipple shape and feeding. I've been getting in to difficulty again this time round and was worried that it would go the same way as it did with DD1. I started using nipple shields this morning but then the MW came round this afternoon she convinced me that it is entirely due to latch and showed me how to get it right. To be honest the results so far have been great and I only wish I'd had someone this helpful first time round with DD1 - obviously we'll have to see if I manage to keep it up, but here's hoping

Den26 · 24/05/2010 19:29

Evening all, sorry no personals.

Rian (Ree-an) Alexander born 20.05.10 weighing 7lb 13 oz.

Planned for a CS on 21.05.10 but Rian decided to come a day early on his own!! ALl happened very quickly. Waters broke at 8am, contractions started straight after, having continuous contractions by 11am, cervix dilated and whisked in for an Em CS as he was breech. Feeling very shocked by thursday evening!!!

Got home yesterday, feeling sore and very sore boobs! Dreading feedng at the minute Can sympathise with those with baby blues, feeling very over whelmed and close to tears completly petrified something might happen to my little treasure!

He has an odd shaped head as he was stuck right under my ribs - MW thinks he has been breech all along.

Need to go for now - visitors!!

Be back later
