Hi neenz was wondering where you had gone to!

dh is out on the town tonight (very very rare occurrence for him - he values his early morning running sessions too much!). So I've decided ds and I are going to have fish and chips - stuff the cooking!

CazEM · 20/05/2010 16:00

Hi all!

Course finished at 2.30 which was lovely! So nice to be home early!!!

Spoke to surgery about blood results today, hospital had flagged them as needing monitoring - apparently my iron levels are only just above fine and I am actually borderline anaemic... and although I don't need iron tablets (like the MW had said yesterday) at the moment if they drop a little bit more I will need tablets - so they want me to make sure I'm getting plenty of iron in my diet (must remember to healthly eat!! lol) in the meantime and then retest in 3 weeks to see what level they are at then. Strange the MW didn't tell me that yesterday... she just said iron levels ok, no tablets needed, but as I'm borderlining anaemic it explains why I've been feeling dizzy/faint and a bit off on and off doesn't it!!

And talking of sickness again girls I haven't actualy been sick but I have had mild nausea in the mornings again but fine as soon as I've eaten. I hope it stays that way, I do not want to go back to how I was the first 12 weeks - its was really awful! All day, every day, getting up in the night etc! My sympathies to those feeling terrible.

I went to the pool after the course for a swim, and it was closed! - first time ive been inspired in yonks to do anything and its shut! I'm obviously meant to be slobbing on the sofa! lol!

DH finally has a letter from the hospital - not an appointment but a letter saying the waiting list is 10 WEEKS and that the best would be done to fit him in in that time scale, and he would recieve another letter with 5 week notice of an appointment in due course - 10 weeks is what they call urgent?!!!! And besides that this just can't keep going on for another 10 weeks, because a) I'm now currently stretching out and massaging his hands every evening because his fingers are getting stiff and stuck in one position because he is struggling to move them/bend them/stretch them etc properly... and b) Belle is due in 11 weeks - so could technically already be here 10... I don't want him to still be having trouble when she is born, I want him at least already being treated for whatever this is! Really - going to have to make a fuss again and get DH to get the GP to really push for him to be seen sooner. Stupid bloody NHS, gunna have to find the money to go privately at this rate.

Ahhh anyway, gunna have a tidy around quickly as my house is a tip (again) and then enjoy some lazy chill out television time, might even indulge in a nap as I'm home much earlier than normal!!

neenz · 20/05/2010 16:38

Caz, sorry about your DH's op. Under the last Tory govt he probably would have had to wait 2.5yrs tho . It might be worth ringing the hospital, speak to the consultant's secretary and explain your situation and that your DH is in a bad way - they might be able to do something. When my DD had a hernia at 9wo I was told initially it was urgent and would need to be operated on within a couple of weeks - when I got referred to the hospital they said 3mths just for an initial appt! But I rang and spoke to the surgeon's secretary to say I thought she really needed to be seen earlier than that and he saw us that very same day and operated the next week. It really is worth ringing and pleading your case cos they might not realise how bad he is. Referral letters can be a bit vague!

girlsyearapart · 20/05/2010 20:49

hi all just an update from me
The 'braxton hicks' which started on monday night continued and I was admitted tuesday avo to hospital and only just got out!

Cervix looks fine though and despite contractions being painful they didn't make me dilate.

Had to take steroid injections to develop baby's lungs every 12 hours four times.

Anyway lots of monitoring showed that there were contractions but baby is fine.

Now have to rest for 48 hours and go back in if things get worse or contractions pick up but otherwise carry on as normal though no going for walks. Dog will be thrilled

Anyway the girls - and the dog who had an op and was also 'hospitalised' last night- are all at the IL's and dh has gone to work.

catch up more soon- am not all there still, antenatal wards with 6 beds + contractions + steroid injections at 2am do not make for good night's sleep

Emster30 · 20/05/2010 20:51

I keep feeling like I should be doing something this evening but am just slobbed out on the sofa. It's been a long hot day at work...

Nearly the weekend. Looking forward to antenatal class on Saturday, pram shopping Saturday afternoon, and then I'm going on holiday on Wednesday! Not long to wait.

Chulita · 20/05/2010 21:02

gya sorry to hear about your hozzie stay, how scary! Hope the contractions calm down and make sure you do have as much rest as you can.

I'm having a weepy moment so I won't stay on here and bore you all.

Hope you all have a good night's sleep and sweet dreams!

Aussieng · 20/05/2010 21:31

GYA - that does sound scary. Hope all stabilises. Gosh been a bit of a scary few days for some of you.

Pales in comparison to baby worries but I got home from work today to find that a fox had got in the chicken enclosure and killed two of them. Bloody awful and I've been really upset. Our remaining girl was quite distressed too although she was fine once I let her out of the enclosure and into the main garden but I don't know what to do with her tonight for the best since the enclosure is clearly not fox proof. Am tempted to put her in the conservatory overnight Can't wait for DH to get home tomorrow - I need a cuddle.

I'm having some revised thoughts on fox-hunting right now.

Glad to see you back Neenz - you seemed to disappear around the general election time

CazEM · 21/05/2010 07:25

Well ladies, as much as I love good weather the start of this heatwave made for a very uncomfortable evening didn't it!

GYA - sounds very scary, make sure you rest up properly now! I don't think we're quite ready for our first arrivals quite yet!

Aussie - sorry to hear about your chickens! I would be v upset too, especially without my DH around. I'm quite sensitive when it comes to animals and pets and really empathise, I'm sure its cuz I've been completely inlove with my cat since the day I got her and would be devastated if anything happened to her! Main reason she is a house cat because I can't bear the thought of her being injured by a car or something! Before I had her (my first pet) I really didn't get what all the fuss was about with pets!

DH is going back to the GP again today to insist that things are pushed along because his hands just get worse every day. I've told him to get a number to ring as the only one on the letter was a general booking enquiries number not department specific. I also told him to asked to be referred privately but he is saying no and that we can't waste money like that at the moment - we are differing on our opinion of wasting money obviously!

I (and my staff) have my (our) performance management observation today - basically means the head is going to come and watch my morning circle time this morning, and then we'll discuss class targets in the follow up meeting. I'm not bothered by the obs - been through inspection already this year and everything was glowing, and these performance management things are a bit "routine" if you know what I mean and I don't really think they mean a lot. We do this every year, and then its forgotten about until the next year. Paper trail project basically to say its done!! My current target is gaining further qualifications so until my Grad-dip/MA is done I'm sure thats the way it will remain! Haha!

Anyway, better get on. Have a good day everyone!

biddysmama · 21/05/2010 14:46

hello pregnant ladies, hope its ok for me to joing in... im 27 weeks, i have a 13 month old bf dd and an 8 year old (not bf, even i'm not that hardcore )

and you know what?? i'm bloody boiling!!!

i ahve a gtt next friday becasue i'm fat this time which is nice lol

growingbump2 · 21/05/2010 15:03

hello, I would like to book in for the third trimester please. I was on the thead for the first but have been so busy in the past twelve weeks moving house and everything just have not had time to post. Can't belive how quick this pregnancy is going in, am very unorganised as well! How scary for those with contractions so early on, hope plenty of rest improves things for you. Currently trying to potty train DS who is two before baby arrives.

My stats are
growingbump2, #2, due 24th August, surprise, Isle of Man

Dibbydab · 21/05/2010 17:00

Afternoon girls,

Welcome Biddysmama and welcome back Growingbump2

I have finally emerged nearly unscathed after 6 weeks without a kitchen. Good news is kitchen is finished, bad news is I have anaemia (obv. 6 weeks of fish suppers and McDonalds don't contain enough iron). If this baby comes out coated in batter asking to be drenched in vinegar, I wouldn't be surprised.

Heartburn is still awful, but it takes my mind off the leg cramps

Start my short weeks at work next week - after working full time for 18 years I'm going down to 4 days a week until I leave (in 6 weeks!) which is going to seem a bit strange - might get myself a paper round or something otherwise I might start watching Jeremy Kyle -

Got my hypnobirthing books and CD's today, so going to have a listen this weekend. My HiP money was in my account within about a week of returning form.

Have a good weekend all.

CherryPie3 · 21/05/2010 17:05

Hello everyone, how are you all?

15 days left at the office for me - HOW EXCITED AM I?!?!?!?!

Welcome to biddysmama and welcome back growingbump2 - I have your stats on the list, biddy if you post your's I'll get you added to the August exclusive list too

GYA How scary for you!!! Hope they've settled down and that you are resting

Aussie Your poor chickens . Hope you're ok!

CazEm Hope your observation day went well!!

Chulita Hope it's just hormones that are making you tearful at the moment. Anything you need to talk about we're here

I had to take the kids to the dentist today, ds was an absolute star!! DD not so much. she started off well then she clamped her mouth shut and despite an hour(!!!) of coaxing and sweet talking from me, the detist, ds....she wouldn't budge! So she's had to be referred to a specialist child dentist to try and do exactly the same thing. Bless her, I guess she was kinda chucked in at te deep end - check up last week which she was fab at, 2 fillings needed this week which, just, weren't fab! Oh well....the joys of being 5years old. Wish the dentist was all I was afraid of!

I'm sorry I haven't read through everyones posts, I intended coming on here yesterday at home as it was my day off but there was soooo much to do. Roll on mat leave so the washing doesn't pile up!
Was also a little bit sad yesterday as it was the due date of my miscarriage . I know it wasn't to be but just seems strange that I should either have a baby, or be very close to having one...
Anyway....dh had some fantastic news yesterday being that he's been accepted onto a management training programma course thingy!! Out of 3 Nationwide call centres there was only 10 places and he got one - can't express how proud I am of him, it really has been a long time coming!!
Wasn't enough for the sex rules to change in our house tho . We've gone 3 mornings a week to a 5 minute fumble once a month if he's lucky

Anyway, I'm off for now - will try to pop back later

Oh, before I go here's the list with growingbump2 on it :0

biddysmama · 21/05/2010 17:10

i'm due 18th august but pretty sure it will be another 41 weeker with a boy we had a 3d scan last week and everything looks good we live in lancashire

dd was 8lb 14oz and this 'little' fella has been estimated as 9/10lb

booked in for another home birth (had one with dd) maybe with a pool this time

neenz · 21/05/2010 17:54

Hi biddysmama, I'd like a homebirth this time too

Yeah, I disappeared around election time cos I was so depressed lol. No, my parents got back from 8wks in Oz and were staying with us cos their house was being renovated so not much time to MN or FB.

The Dts turned 2 a couple of weeks ago so i thought I'd have a go with some potty training. I just put them in pants and when they had an accident said 'oh you've done a wee/poo, next time you can do that in the potty' - but we had no success at all even after 3-4 days! So I am going to hold off until the new baby is about 3mo. They should get it pretty quick then. My mum said all us four were trained by the time we were 2 (using the method I described above!) - not that she was pushing me to train, but when she said that i thought maybe I am not giving the Dts enough credit thinking they are not ready. Er, no, I was right - they're not ready .

Sorry to hear of prem birth scare stories - hope everyone's LOs stay put for at least another couple of months.

CazEM · 21/05/2010 18:00

Evening ladies!

Observation went well as far as I know Cherry thanks - haven't had feedback yet but head was all positive on leaving my classroom! Big congratulations for you DH - that is great news! and hope your DD does better at the children's dentist, bless her. Sorry to hear your feeling sad today - it must be a really strange sort of feeling for you, missing the baby you lost but looking forward to one about to arrive. I can't imagine how that must feel.... I am very of your 15 days left though! I have 8 weeks, 1 week of which is half term so I'll discount that, so it works out at about 35 working days left! lol!

Welcome to Biddysmama and growingbump2 Chulita hope your ok and I echo what Cherry said - we're here to listen if you need us! I love MN for the opportunity to openly rant and rave or be upset about something! This thread has been so supportive and uplifting at times!

Went with DH to see Dr - and I must be fair he (the Dr) was fab! Finally I feel my faith being restored in the NHS! (Same Dr I saw him in the earlish days of this pregnancy when I kept bleeding (13-16 weeks) and he was lovely then, I was apologising for being paranoid and overreacting the Dr was lovely and said pregnant women are never overreacting and I could go and see him as many times as I needed to for reassurance about anything however little the problem)

Anyway, he was really thorough with DH and completely understood our concerns regarding the 10 weeks waiting list and DH getting worse in the meantime with a baby due any day then! He has referred DH to another department at the hospital - orthepedic as well as general neurology, and has tried to speed things up for us, but at least he was honest and said we'd still be looking at 6-8 weeks, possibly 4-5 if we were really lucky. He agreed that the waiting lists were a bit of a joke even for urgent patients.

In the meantime DH looked into our medical insurance today and we're covered for an initial private appointment so we're going to go down that road too and see where we are after that - Dr said just to let him know the private appointment time and he'd have a referral letter ready for us for that too. Naughty I know but I'm hoping if he gets seen quicker privately the rest of treatment can be done more quickly on the NHS - or if not we'll suck it up and just use our savings to pay for the as much as the private treatment as we can, and my parents have offered help with private treatment too because they are so worried about him, and concerned for me and baby with all the stress coming up to her birth. Bless, they are great my parents! DH is finally agreeing this can't go on to my due date without treatment!!!

I've been boiling all day and I'm really not looking forward to the heat this weekend! I have very few summery type clothes either, so next weekend = payday = new clothes for me!! I found that one of the beach dresses I wore last year on honeymoon is very stretchy and looks ok as a long skirt for this evening. DH has likened me to a hippy - I'm not normally one for long flowing skirts, (I do knee length stuff normally!) but I can't cope with trousers around my legs anymore today and not a lot else fits me and wanted to save my one maternity summer skirt for tomorrow and our nieces 3rd birthday party!

Anyway, hope everyone has a lovely start to the hot weekend!

CherryPie3 · 21/05/2010 18:00

Aww, a home birth how lovely. I'm not allowed one cos I had an early baby (35wks) and my blood pressure isn't settled enough - I was gutted at first but I'm over it now . Anywhere's good if it gets the little wriggler out

And you are on officially on the list!!!! can you believe we have 57 babies on this list????

Hey girls!

Nine weeks till mat leave for me! Cant wait! Work has been strange this week - we were making balloon animals yesterday to teach us about new skills ( I think)and dressing up for charity today- and I've still lost interest!

Big Welcome to Biddysmama and Growingbump2 GYA I hope you are getting lots of rest

Cherry congrats to your hubbie and a big hug for you-I hope you are feeling better today

Does anyone want a copy of Shiela Kitzinger "Breast Feeding your baby"?- I have ended up with 2 from amazon some how! It a bit 80s but is supposed to be good- read about it in the mumsnet book. There are 2 "how to" and how not to" piccies that are driving me a bit mad though... I keep looking at them and they look the same! If you do let me know and I can give you my email address to send your address to

neenz · 21/05/2010 19:46

Caz, I got some mega bargains from ebay this week - two pairs of shorts for £10 and two vests (new) for £12 inc postage. When I went in mothercare one pair of shorts was £24! Cheeky buggers. I did get two vests for £12 there tho and they are great for this weather, hence my buying two more on ebay (mcare a bit of a trek to go back to!)

growingbump2 · 22/05/2010 09:54

morning all, its so nice outside and I have nothing suitable to wear so currently in DH pj shorts and a vest top - may have to go to shops like this neez, I have been potty training DS this week who is nearly 2.5 and he has taken to it great, tried when he was just two and he wasn't interested at all, can't believe the difference a few months have made. Cherry DS is also a nightmare at dentist, we went to see the special one for children he still wouldn't co-operate lucky its just for them to look at his teeth, think they would have to put him to sleep if he needed anything doing! I have been a bit sad this week to as my miscarried baby was due on the 11th May and I kept thinking I should be up all night feeding this week which sounds a bit silly I suppose as I will be in August anyway! Off to enjoy the beach!

Alicetheinvisible · 22/05/2010 10:43

Morning

Sorry, have been absent for a couple of days. GYA sounds like we have had very similar weeks!

Got sent to Hospital by nurse at GP's on wednesday and got let out last night. Baby hopefully staying put, but possibly still going to make an early appearance. Still have contractions but the hospital were happy for me to go home as long as i go in immediately anything picks up/any more signs. Have had course of steroid injections (ouch!) and baby is very healthy, and weighs aprrox 2lb3ozs according to scan atm, which is not bad for 28+4weeks pg.
Need to stay at home, drink some spatone (apparently my iron levels have dropped very low - wondered why i was shaky and breathless!) going to take it easy for a while and hope it all passes. Possibility of an 'irritable uterus' and if that is all it is, just a case of taking things easier.

Kcoffin i am so sorry i haven't sent those jeans off yet will try desperately to get to the PO on monday to post them.

On the plus side this week, i have made a few valuable additions to hospital bag list (bag will also be packed in the next few days!)

Magicool spray/hand held fan with water spray attachment (soooooo hot)
Very thick face and hand moisturiser (fans are very drying)
Lip balm
Short pyjamas
Flip flops
Ear plugs

Sounds like these babies don't want to miss the nice weather

Hope you're feeling better Alice and that baby has some second thoughts about coming early

Growingbump The dentist said yesterday that it's odds on dd will need to be put to sleep for any treatment . Dh has offered to take her as I'll probably fall to pieces. Dd is well chuffed that she's going to this new dentist tho cos it's the same place I was sent to have a night-brace fitted (lovely) when I was about 12.

I wish I was at home in the garden with dh and the kids. Although I have to admit, it's cold in this office cos of the air conditioning!!

Dh text me a little while ago telling me that apparently the pegs on the washing line are melting .

I want a fab lolly....

Wow, Alice & GYA...you take it easy, ladies. That's you on the Worry List along with Cherry. The June thread ladies have already had 3 babies but there's none for July yet - we need to keep all babies cooking (which will be the correct word to use if the weather keeps up) until at least the beginning of July. This thread and all your hospital visits must be front of mind for me as I find myself wondering whenever I get a bit of pain now...

Cherry and Growingbump2 - I'm so sorry about the babies that didn't make it, hope you can focus on the happy side of your understandably mixed feelings just now.

How great is it to be able to get outside? I'm super happy even if it means I'm looking like a complete state - all I can wear without buying anything is a pair of black harem shorts up over my bump with a black vest top. I look like a ninja martial arts expert crossed with a weeble.

Laters - back to another shift with the circular sander and the garden furniture.

Ok have read your post properly this time

I too have been having a nosey on the June thread, and they just got their 3rd yesterday didn't they? Am a teeny tiny bit jealous as I wish I was ata 'safe' stage to go into labour. Won't be long now tho - am 30wks already!!

I'm not sad anymore about the m/c baby. It just wasn't meant to be thats all, I think it was just because that was the due date I was given, but strange to think I should be propping my eyes open with matchsticks roundabout now tho due to night feeding .

Quite grateful that that part is yet to come lol.

When youdescribed what you were wearing I got this picture in my head of you with black fabric wrapped around your head and 2 swords crossed over your back
