New thread

We really are getting through a thread a month lol!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
neenz · 01/07/2010 19:29

For post-birth snacks, make sure you take things with lots of fibre in! The first post-birth poo is not a pleasant experience, you will want it to be soft (sorry TMI!). Figs and dried apricots are good. When I had the DTs they had All Bran on the ward for breakfast so take advantage of that if they have it at your hospital.

My bump is massive too! I was at a friend's today and a woman arrived who I didn't know and she took one look at my bump and said 'Oh my God!' and couldn't believe I have 6wks to go. But I am not as big as with the twins obviously. I swear at the end people would stop and stare if I walked down the street! At 6mths PG a woman said to me 'Not long to go now!' and I said '3mths!'. She nearly fell over

Alicetheinvisible · 01/07/2010 19:30

Contractions have started up again this evening going to see how things go, sure they will ease off after a shower and bed though. Really got backache too, think baby is back to back (today)

girlsyearapart · 01/07/2010 19:59

marzi try anything by sophie kinsella they are funny.

alice hope you're feeling ok. Am having similar- just want the baby out now. If my mum or mil says to me one more time that the baby is 'better in than out you don't want it 4 weeks early' i shall faint.

Started raspberry leaf tablets today. Only 1 a day this wk then 2 from 36 wks.

Loving the post birth fantasies

ElusiveMoose · 01/07/2010 20:12

Wow, Alice, good luck if anything does happen!

Sorry to worry you first-time ladies with the 'jellified' comment, but I'm afraid there's no escaping the fact that the post-birth body is not pleasant. (Plus, once the bump is no longer huge, you can see all the stretch marks every time you look down.) Oh, and for goodness' sake, take maternity clothes into hospital for your coming home outfit. Someone I knew decided she wanted to feel good about herself when she came home, so she packed a pair of pre-pregnancy white jeans . Given the massive stomach and the considerable bleeding, that's just wrong on so many levels...

The book question reminds me that I still have to decide what book(s) to pack in my hospital bag. I'm a bit of a bookworm, so this is a major decision for me . Last time I took one of the Harry Potters, which was perfect - long, page-turning, but incredibly light. I'm considering the Steig Larsson books this time - has anyone read them? I think they'd fit the page-turner bill, but maybe a bit gruesome and violent for my delicate condition at the moment. In terms of light-reading recommendations, I don't really do trash (sorry, that sounds incredibly snobby, but I just don't really enjoy chick-lit etc!), but there's plenty of very good and easy to read stuff out there. One of my very favourite modern books is The Rotters' Club by Jonathan Coe (very funny, though it does have sad bits in it). Or the Time Traveller's Wife, which is sort of sad but also incredibly moving and lovely.

cazzybabs · 01/07/2010 20:12

well several people asked when I was due today and when I told them the end of the month they said "Ohh you are hiding it well"...sadly I think because I am fat all over it hides the front bit because I am measuring fine

cazzybabs · 01/07/2010 20:13

BTW i loved the Steig Larsson books

Alicetheinvisible · 01/07/2010 20:49

Cazzy i am sure you look fab.

Contractions have eased off now having spent over an hour sitting down with my feet up.

DH (who is a vet) had a really good feel of the bump and says it feels like baby is back to back as all the kicks are at the front of the bump.

Hoping for a decent nights sleep, as we are off to ikea tomorrow (love ikea!)

Chulita · 01/07/2010 21:38

37 weeks today! Hooray This is when I start telling everyone 'any day now', even if I've got ages. I keep telling DH it's 6 days (5 tomorrow)

I've ordered an abdominal binder to wear after the birth - they're supposed to help hold you all in after having your LO and are supposedly very good even after a cs. Anything to try and get that post-baby belly a little firmer is worth a try in my book!

I've been getting very uncomfy bh every single night without fail. They don't hurt, they just make me breathless and my bump is soooo tight. Today I've been getting twinges right in my pubic bit which have been pretty painful. I keep saying it's going to be early just cos it would be so convenient for the house-move. I've been seriously nesting too so that's always good

alice of your Ikea trip, haven't been for ages!

star glad you're back home, are you going to try to birth a breech? A friend of mine had twins, one head down and the other breech and she had them both naturally so it is possible! (they didn't realise the other was breech til she'd squeezed the first out and she said there was no way she was having a cs after doing one properly!)

littlemiss this LO was transverse until last week (36wks) and still wriggles a lot so there's always time for it to turn!

I need to wash up after mil, sil and DH had a huge curry feast. There's a big pile of stuff, (I had it too, not blaming them) then I'm off to bed - I'm absolutely shattered!

Chulita · 01/07/2010 21:39

Ooh, we're getting close to the end of the thread, any thread title suggestions?

thedogwalker · 01/07/2010 21:49

Chulita

Do you want something corny like 'the home stretch' or something hopeful like, Bottle Glass of wine here we come!!!

Sorry its late and my suggestions are pants. Good luck thinking of something to use as the title

thecoffeelady · 01/07/2010 23:39

Evening Ladies,

I had my growth scan at the hospital today, all looks good baby is within 'normal' range and is head down.

I then saw the consultant who is a cow and she told me that I have to go back in 3 weeks to check that the baby is in the correct position. This is a total waste of time and NHS money. A midwife is able to tell me what position the baby is in so what is the point in going back?!?!?!

Baby is doing what I can only describe as 'rummaging' it is so active, much more than DD ever was. In a way it is nice as it is a constant reminder that baby is ok and I feel very blessed but it is really quite uncomfortable.

I really should go to bed as I have an early start tomorrow but it is still too hot to sleep.

Catch you all tomorrow ladies

girlsyearapart · 02/07/2010 07:50

marzi I also love anything by Emily Barr. Her books are very easy to read but not too fluffy and are easy to relate to in general.

Hope everyone ok this morning. Last night I had an uncontrollable urge to wash the front door

Hopefully this is pregnancy induced lunacy not onset of middle age..

Didn't even do very good job of it!

My sister coming at lunchtime to pick the girls up for a sleepover and mum picking them up in the morning so I'll have around 24hours to myself

Chulita · 02/07/2010 08:32

Eek! cherrypie had her LO! Hoping for a birth story soon!

Maybe the thread title should be - August 2010: we're popping already!

aendr · 02/07/2010 08:42

wow, congratulations cherrypie

Sorry I haven't been on in a while, been a tad busy here. Got my growth scan - about the only good thing about having gestational diabetes, the extra scans - and obstetrics consultant appointment today. I'm really suffering in the heat too.

ElusiveMoose I'm having similar book problems. And I read about at 200 pages an hour. I'm thinking of re-reading the Clan of the Cave Bear series by Auel, as the last one's publishing date has finally been announced for next year! That will total around 3700 pages for all 5 books. (Last time, I was in hospital for 5 days due to Group B Strep antibiotics and lack of feeding.) I'll only pack the first one two though - if I'm staying in longer, my DH can bring more in. The advantage of re-reading is that though they're not fluff, less concentration is needed to be available than reading for the first time.

loobyt · 02/07/2010 08:43

Wow, big congratulations to cherrypie! Babies arriving already, how exciting (mine can stay put for another 7 weeks though!)

Chulita - that should definately be the next thread title!

thedogwalker · 02/07/2010 08:50

Congratulations cherrypie Looking forward to the birth story. [congratulations smiley face]

Wow almost a month early. That really means any of us could pop at any time...eeek...am I ready?????

Good morning to everyone, hope we are all okay

babyducky · 02/07/2010 08:57

congrats cherry pie, so exciting!

I agree on new thread title!

catch up later, hope everyones ok xx

girlsyearapart · 02/07/2010 08:57

Yay to cherry! wow looking forward to hearing all about it.

Does anyone know what she had??

Nikalah · 02/07/2010 09:00

Congratulations Cherry That's so exciting - I am soooooo packing my hospital bag today!

mrsZaC · 02/07/2010 09:04

I'm so excited cherry has popped out her little boy super dooper congrats darling, glad he arrived safely Can't wait to hear all about it.

Another busy night last night, can't WAIT for the weekend, week 3 down now and only 2 to go before I'm on Mat leave

My list of jobs for when I'm off is growing... I need to fix my 2nd had changing unit as the bottoms keep falling out of the drawers I hate drawers that do that, think I'll have to get my tool kit out. Absolutely nothing to do with me having so much stuff it won't fit in the drawers

on the jelly belly front I've already been warned about this by a friend who did the same and brought her pre-pregnancy jeans with her to the hosipital - doh! she screamed when she was in the shower after birth and touched her belly - ewh! I have to say, not looking forward to that but will just have to concentrate on my lovely baby instead

chulita I like the thread title
alice hope your contractions have chilled out now and baby gets a move on to get the right way round!

Jaysfourth · 02/07/2010 09:06

Hi all

stranger here!

Cherry had a baby boy, i don't know any more details but i am sure she wont mind me saying, as its posted on her FB page.

Guessing there will be more details to follow

ElusiveMoose · 02/07/2010 09:12

OMG Cherry how exciting!! And congratulations!! Can't WAIT to hear all about it.

(Fuck. I really need to pack my hospital bag . I did at least pack my labour bag yesterday, but post-birth bag isn't done yet.)

aendr I'm glad it's not just me who thinks the labour book is such an important decision. Have you read Wolf Hall? I absolutely loved it and it's seriously long (though the chapters are quite short, so you can digest it easily). Another option for me would be to reread A Suitable Boy, which also has nice short chapters. But I think I might give the Stieg Larssons a try (thanks for the endorsement cazzybabs).

Aussieng · 02/07/2010 09:13

Hey everyone. I've had no time even to read your messages so I'm really sorry. I scanned very quickly to make sure no major incidents or anything and all seems well... Sorry to those who worried about me. 2 weeks to go to my due date, three weeks after my maternity leave was supposed to start and I am working at least 15 hour days and very stressed at the though of how I will ever manage this job and a baby when the time comes so worrying over the prospect of being the world's worst mum.... Anyway, I really hope I can get out of here today [Quick prayer offered up as I am exhausted].

Anyway - quite a long post given that I only popped on to say that I will make my contribution to Caz's rose at the weekend (sorry to be so late) and wow - congrats to Cherry. My LO has been instructed to be at least 10 days late. I need a bit of chill out time after this project.

Will catch up properly with all your news at the weekend. Take care everyone. xx

Emster30 · 02/07/2010 09:29

Congrats to Cherry! How exciting!

soontobefatnat · 02/07/2010 09:34

Wowzers - congrats Cherry! Cannot wait to hear more!!
