Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
growingbump2 · 22/05/2010 21:23

evening all, just sat down in house after a lovely day at the beach then out in the garden! cherry, what a shame for your DD if she has to get a ga for dental treatment, I understand what you mean though I would be a mess if I went with DS for something like that. Having lots of BH today, ouch why do we need to practice so far in advance for something I've done already! Have moved to the Isle of Man this week and just found out baby is due during the Manx Grand Prix, basically the race track is based around the Island and closes all day, the only route to hospital is via helicopter! Argh!

girlsyearapart · 22/05/2010 22:06

alice wow you and me both then!

Did they give you 4 steroid injections cos of national shortage of the two dose one??

Thosse injections are not pleasant are they..

Nice to be home though v difficult not to do anything.

contractions have mostly stopped but am still feeling decidedly abnormal. Never even heard of this irritable uterus thing before. Irritating uterus more like!

Alicetheinvisible · 23/05/2010 08:34

GYA is that what they decided you have too? I only had 2 injections - thank god! I seem to be ok if i literally lie down and do nothing, but as soon as i sit up, go to the loo etc they start which is rubbish, so just going very slowly. I wonder how much of me feeling rubbish is down to low iron though, so trying to get my iron levels up Was in a lot of pain last night (bearable, but not wanted at this stage!) but luckily after going to bed it had stopped. Even if i get that everyday, each day brings me a bit closer to a healthier baby. Started leaking milk now too. the fun just never stops!

CazEM · 23/05/2010 09:52

GYA and Alice - how scary for you both! I hope your babies decide to stay put for a while longer yet!

How is everyone enjoying the weather? I coped far better yesterday than I thought I was going to, don't think I'm going to do as well today as the only thing I have left to wear is a dress but it is high backed and has short sleeves! Haha! Yesterday I was in little sleeveless vest and skirt. Enjoyed nieces birthday party, just as well there was good weather so we could use the garden!!

Having a productive morning so far today - cleaned and tidied kitchen, another load of washing on, general tidy around downstairs and when I've finished on here I'm going to do the very desperate looking bathroom!!! Hoping to persuade DH to do a tip-trip with more stuff from baby's room today too!! Bacon sandwhiches for breakfast will probably do it! Haha!

Have a lovely day everyone!

Alicetheinvisible · 23/05/2010 15:54

Hey Caz

Got my handheld fan with water spray ordered last night, and the crib too (starting to feel a touch of urgency ) Because we are slightly more flush than expected atm, we have gone for this and as it is a good price and i can get points back it seemed a good deal.

Emster30 · 23/05/2010 15:58

Hello all, isn't it lovely?! We went into central London earlier to meet friends for a coffee and sat outside at a cafe just by Southwark Cathedral. It was sooo lovely to be able to sit outside and sip a cold drink, just like being on holiday. Now DH and I have brought our laptops out to the park across the road from home and have found that we are within range of our wifi connection which is good!

Yesterday we went to a one-off antenatal class run by the physio dept at the hospital. It was really good, it covered breathing techniques, pain relief options, massage, optimal foetal positioning, pelvic floor exercises, back care etc etc. Very useful!

CazEM · 23/05/2010 22:24

Alice that crib is gorgeous! I'm adding handheld fan to my hospital list after this weekend!!!!

Had a nice day - house v tidy and clean - although was totally shattered after doing the bathroom! Recovered by relaxing on the sofa for a few hours, popped to Mothercare to look at their baby monitor range and use DH's barcode app thing on his Iphone to find ones we like cheaper, visited my Grandma and went for a lovely evening drive over the mountains!

Came home and ordered the monitor I liked the most online for £50 cheaper than in mothercare, just because it has a different brand name on it but otherwise identical! www.shop.co.uk/101719/binatone-bm500-digital-video-baby-monitor-bm500

So I'm super pleased! That's nearly all our big purchases done - only got to do the bedroom furniture now, which is waiting on nursery being ready to have furniture in!! (Oh and a swing and playmat but they are 'treats' and coming out of DH's May Petrol Expenses claim as we're making nearly £100 off them this month!!)

Emster we've opted for the normal NHS antenatal classes - 6 hours over 3 weeks starting 3rd June. I hope they are as useful as yours!

Right have my consultant review tomorrow so I better go off and make a list of questions and make sure all episodes are recorded down for them!!

Night all x x

bouncingblueberries · 24/05/2010 08:59

alice that crib is divine! Very jealous!

Well, that was rather a sweaty weekend! Finally had to take off my wedding rings as my fingers are now sausages, but (touch wood) my ankles aren't too bad so far. Just as well really as we're going to a wedding on Friday and I'm planning on wearing a dress. Don't really want to have to think about a last minute wardrobe change to cover swollen ankles!

Starting to get a bit worried about how ds is going to react to the baby. He was a real monkey yesterday afternoon and behaved so badly round at our friends house that we had to leave Not sure what's going on at all. When I asked him why he was misbehaving he replied "it's because I'm just so excited about the baby and being a big brother". Cue hearts melting. I don't know, maybe it was the sunshine or something. Even nursery have commented that he's very excitable at the moment. Sigh. Need to find some creative outlets for all this extra energy of his I think...(just wish I had the energy!).

Anyways, have a lovely day girls. Hope we don't all melt too much!

pamplem0usse · 24/05/2010 09:09

Morning girls.... feeling alot cooler today (yay!) but my hayfever is still bad. Have loads of work to do today before a run through of my big presentation on Thursday

blueberries know the swelling feeling, my rings are now on a chain around my neck but keep forgetting to put them on so they end up lying around the house. May be slightly paranoid but considering just putting them in a safe..... My feet are also pretty swollen (they seem to have gone up a size and they were already huge )... ah well! I hit the 3rd trimester this week, yay!

Have a good day all!

Alicetheinvisible · 24/05/2010 10:28

Morning

29weeks today! If i can just get this week over and done with then i will start to relax more.

I thought it was meant to be cooler today it is hotter!

Friends have taken DD to playgroup with them this morning so i can rest. Was thinking of packing a hospital bag (more a general one in case i have to stay in, than THE hospital bag iyswim?) but so bloody knackered, i might just sleep.

My fingers have got a bit fat too, still got my rings on, but for how much longer i don't know. Think it is more the heat than anything else tbh.

mrsZaC · 24/05/2010 10:34

Morning ladies!

wow what a lovely weekend, so surpised I managed to stay cool! think it was mostly to do with being in the air conditioned car most of the weekend. Hope you all had a lovely time sunning yourselves

alice & GYA hope your both doing ok, tell those babies it's not time to come out yet and they will just have to wait!

fan= immense idea for hospital bag, will need to start my list soon.

I had a very productive baby weekend, bid on and got the matching changing unit to go with my gumtree bargain mamas and papas savannah cotbed and wardrobe so cuffed to bits Also got my nusing chair yesterday, now my favourite reading chair, bargalishious at £99 and soo comfy I'll forgive it for being a bit ugly

So a happy mummy to be with my changing unit in what might be the nursery full of my colourful nappies and other goodies I've picked up so far

Was worried about baby this morning because I didn't feel it moving for a couple of hours and didn't remember feeling baby before going to bed or when sleeping but I've felt a few wriggles in the last hr so think we're ok, I think I've just been so busy that baby was having a lie-in!

cherry super jealous of your 15 days left I've got 8 weeks, and counting everyday!

Really worried about not getting my HIP grant, as I've spent it already on my hypnobirthing I'm due to see the midwife on the 15th of June (I'll be 28.5 wks) and she said she will give me my form then, do you think i'll still get it?

Aussieng · 24/05/2010 11:17

No mention of HiP's that I can see on the speech today (CTF's confirmed as exed from the end of the year) so it is looking good so far MrsZac(disclaimer - have only skimmed so far).

Thanks Caz/Cherry for comments re the chicks. I know they are not quite the same as indoor pets but it was still awful and I had been really looking foward to pottering in the garden with them running around this summer. Think we are going to get a couple of ex battery hens now (once happy the coop is secure).

Finally got the nursery furniture ordered - hurrah! Got a really good discount at the baby show and DH won a course with the red cross on first aid.

We're also just doing the NHS classes. I have one whole day next week on my own then 4 saturdays in June with DH so they seem pretty good. I was going to do the NCT classes then one of my friends commented that she and her DH are doing the NCT classes and not the NHS classes because the "NCT classes are more for people like us". Horrible snobby attitude which I want no part of.

pamplem0usse · 24/05/2010 11:32

You should, there's been no announcement.... but why not ring up and ask her to sign it when she's next in the surgery so you can pick it up.

Damn the CTF ruling. I doubt baby flutter will be early.... and we'll be considered amongst the 'better off' for no better reason than the fact that we get studentships rather than taxable income, which basically means that despite we're pretty low earners we get screwed on anything that's means tested. Yay. So that'll be £50 then....

Seems so arbitrary. Surely if you're pregnant already / at least in the system you should still get it!

girlsyearapart · 24/05/2010 12:04

alice yes had to have 4 injections of the steroid as they didn't have any 2 dose one left- apparently national shortage.

All at 12 hour intervals but as I was contracting the whole time I'd have been staying in anyway.

We got the hip into the bank account very quickly- maybe a week after sending it off.
Haven't got anything specific to spend it on it has just been sucked into the bank account.

blueberries we have a wedding to go saturday but will be away fri-sun as it's up north. Here's hoping baby won't put in early appearance whilst we're there!

Emster30 · 24/05/2010 12:18

I was just looking at the FAQs about the CTF announcement (www.hmrc.gov.uk/chancellors-statement/ctf-announce-qa.pdf) - looks like it will still be £250 for babies born before 1 August (wasn't sure whether the change would rely on birth dates or what). So I'll have to hope I don't go too overdue if I'm to get it for my baby! Sorry that most of those on this thread will only get the lesser amount...

mrsZaC · 24/05/2010 12:18

cool thanks for the info girls, will phone the midwife tomorrow and see if she is able to do that. I was going to make an appoinment tomorrow as I've not felt baby moving much last 24hrs but no appointments anyway, will wait and see how baby & I get on today before I start worrying too much.

pample I agree I think if you've been told about these sorts of things (HIP & CTF) then you should get them. However I'm in agreement that if we are making cuts then things like this should be put on the back-burner, especially since we have the freedom with the HIP to spend it on whatever we choose too, good idea in principle but not much control over wether it's actually being spent wisely.

CherryPie3 · 24/05/2010 15:00

Hi girls, thank the lord for air conditioning!! How the hell I'm going to cope in the heat of full summer I'll never know...

Another one here who's had to remove all rings - feeling a little bit naked without them.
Also MrsZaC - not getting too many movements here either, thought maybe it was because of the geat somehow, with me not exactly moving around as much as I normally would? No idea if that would even affect baby-movements but I have my weekly monitoring session tomorrow afternoon so we'll have a little listen then.

It's felt like a pretty crazy weekend all round even though I haven't really done much . Was working Saturday and went to an engagement party Saturday night.
Yesterday was a nightmare with the heat - even thekids wouldn't go outside, their trampoline was burning their feet and hands. Gonna have to get a grip cos it's gonna be a hot summer apparently.

Hope you all had lovely weekends and are not sunburned
xxxx

summerymummy · 24/05/2010 15:55

Hello ladies, can I be a late joiner please? I'm due 2nd August so 30 weeks today, hurrah!! This will be my second baby, first dd is 3.5 yrs and was a whopping 10lb 6oz (I know, giant) so am preparing myself for an 11 pounder this time, eek! If all goes to plan will be having it at home, have had an independent midwife the whole way through as find the NHS ones so unsupportive of home births (esp for big babies) around here. At 4d scan at 28 weeks baby was breech, obviously still plenty of time to turn but am now starting reading up on vaginal breech deliveries, what fun
My stats for the list:
2 August - Summerymummy #2, Berkshire, 29, 20 week scan all fine, SURPRISE (but think it's a boy)

mrsZaC · 24/05/2010 16:05

welcome summerymummy

cherry must be a quiet baby day for us today, wish I could see in my belly and see what it's up to! It will probably start leaping around during relaxation at yoga tonight! I LOVE the A/c in our office, don't even notic it's hot outside :D

weehector · 24/05/2010 16:54

What a bugger re the CTF. I sent off the HiP form last Monday - just checked my account and nothing's there yet so one week and counting for it at the moment. To make matters worse - the DWP have sent me a letter today to say they are stopping my Jobseeker's Allowance as of last week (but suggest its to do with my NI contributions rather than a change to MA which is weird as I haven't claimed for 6 months - I've been registered as self employed and paying NI for most of the last 6 months bar maybe 4 or 5 weeks) and I still haven't heard re my entitlement to MA...it should kick in this week so I'm starting to get anxious...that's approx £3500 over the next 6 months that we really need. I would be so angry if after 15 years of working solidly, they didn't pay me a penny of MA AND stopped my Jobseeker's Allowance.

Cherry & MrsZac - definitely fewer movements here too but so far, just when I start to notice I haven't felt anything for several hours, Baby Weehector comes going with a few kicks.

MrsZac that is an amazing bargain you got with the chair. My rocking chair looks great downstairs (and its been pointed out that it might not be practical when the baby starts to walk) so I may have to swing by the Pram Centre when I'm in town tomorrow.

Off to fire up the barbie again! Commiserations to those of you workng! It really is glorious out there

CazEM · 24/05/2010 17:09

Welcome summery - your name really suits the current weather!!

Had a long wait at the hospital today - my appointment was an hour and a half late but totally worth it when we finally got in there! I had unexpected treat - another scan! Not sure why the consultant decided to scan me, I think it was the check presentation of baby but I wasn't complaining! So lovely to see how she is growing, amazing how much bigger she is since 20 weeks and definately a girl as he kindly had a look again for us! Haha! Regarding my heart the consultant has decided to refer me to cardiology for a more recent check up with them, and for them to give advice regarding birth/labour - when I have seen cardiology I will have another consultant appointment at antenatal to look at birth options based on cardiology advice. I'm glad they are being thorough so I don't mind the extra appointments.

I finally left the hospital at just gone 1.00pm and phoned work to see what they wanted me to do - come in or not and they said to still come in... was quite annoyed and irritated because hospital is an hour away from work (which they know), I had to get dinner before going back to work so didn't get into work until almost 2.30 and I just didn't see the point - kids leave at just gone 3!!! Thought they were taking the mick a bit, especially as I'm not one who usually has any time off at all!! Anyway, DH picked me up again at 3.30 cuz he just hung around in Cardiff for an hour cuz he said there was no point him going home to come back again to waste even more fuel so that was the biggest waste of an hour and petrol ever!!!

Hope everyone has had a super day!

growingbump2 · 24/05/2010 19:22

Evening all, another lovely day. DS in bed and DH at work so about to enjoy a relaxing soak. Blueberries my DS is acting up a bit at the minute too, I can' really blame him we have moved him 400 miles from all he knows he is settling in great just very excitable. Glad you had a nice surprise at hospital Caz! at your bargain chair Mrs Zac. GYA ouch at your 4 steriod injections I had 2 with DS and my arse was sore for weeks! Your symptoms made me go to the nurse today as I have been experiencing similar tightings she dipped my urine then got the doctor in as protein levels + 2 and high BP, have to go again tomorrow and if still up and no signs of UTI then I am to have a trip up to the maternity unit for investigation, the fun never ends!

bouncingblueberries · 24/05/2010 19:57

Hey girls, hot and bothered here with a grumpy dh to contend with (no idea why he's being grumpy - maybe he's coming out in sympathy with us ).

Anyway, have sent the grumpy bugger off to the allotment to give our poor veggies a good water.

Re everyone experiencing quiet baby days - I read on another thread that if you get dehydrated it can slow the baby movements down, so off you all go and have a nice big drink of water please! I've drunk loads today and hardly peed at all, so must have been heading towards dehydration myself! (will probably be up all night peeing now!).

Caz that's rubbish you had to go in to work buy yeah for extra scans!

weehector hope you get your MA/NI stuff sorted out soon. Doing my accounts and my tax return makes my brain ache!

Welcome summerymummy

Just scoffed a cornetto - yummy!

CherryPie3 · 24/05/2010 20:54

Hey all

Welcome summerymummy - have addedyou to the list

WeeHector Exactly how fast do you think we can run to chase you?

CazEm Yaaay for your unexpected scan!! And boo to your boss telling you to go back to work for an hour!! I wouldn't have have even called....I just wouldn't have gone back . I'm pi55ed off enough with my employer tho hence the reason I do it.

GYA Also ouchy at your 4 steroid injections, I also had to have the normal 2shot dose. I'ma bit about the national shortage tho - is everyone having early babies??

GrowingBump Hope the appointment tomorrow goes well and your bp/protein has settled down

Blueberries Thanks for the info about dehydration and baby movements - will keep that in mind - I think I probably just have a lazy baby tbh , s/he's not even reacting to pokes/prods or chocolate/sugary things. Will be glad to get on the monitor tomorrow.

Welcome summery MrsZac* at your nursing chair, just had a peak at the website and there's only a few left, I think I might drop a few hints to the family.
