Oh my goodness CherryPie amazing! Can't wait to hear more! I had my first NCT class last night - what a nice bunch! Have you started yours?

LittleMissSnowShine · 02/07/2010 09:40

Congrats Cherry!! Wow, so exciting that the August ladies have started to pop - good thread title Chulita. I'm (allegedly lol) not due til 28th Aug so I keep thinking it's MILES off, but the weeks pass quicker and quicker, def inspiration to finish packing hospital bag and get plenty done in the nursery/around the house over next 2 or 3 weeks!!

Elusive - I'm also a complete bookworm and I listened to loads of the Stieg Larsson books on audiobook in December cos I was doing a 120 mile round trip commute to work once a week. Even when I got home I just wanted to lie in the bath and keep listening!! But some of the stuff is a bit gritty and none too pleasant so it might not be ideal labour material!! If you liked Harry Potter have you tried any of the Garth Nix books? or Lisa McMann's Wake? Or (dare I suggest this??) Twilight? Something exciting but not too strenuous to read might be better than heavy going Swedish crime fiction

Transverse baby seems to be wedged between rib cage and lungs today so feeling a bit breathless and since the sun returned yesterday pretty damn hot as well! Lots of work to get through though so going to try and bury myself in that for a few hours and then take the afternoon off to go and see Letters to Juliet with my mum and sis . Well it is Friday!!

LittleMissSnowShine · 02/07/2010 09:53

PS) Chulita - What abdominal binder did you order? I was going to buy a belly bandit off ebay cos I saw a few American pregnancy magazines that raved about them as a must have but I haven't done it yet so looking for other recommendations!!

Hey Guys

Congrats to Cherry-so exciting!

Aussieng you will be a fantastic mum! I hope you manage to finish early and have a relaxing weekend.

I have been in overdrive the last few weeks- have packed my hospital bag, bought last few things on the list, washed all the baby clothes and sorted the nursery, made and frozen meals....erm what will I do in my mat leave??

Starting my antenatal classes on Tuesday- quite excited!

I feel like my bump is huge too- probably because I'm so short! Had my fair share of weird comments (woman in canteen calling me fatty etc) and randoms trying to touch my bump but also had lots of people smiling at me for no reason and the bus driver let me on the bus for free just for being preggers!!!

Chulita · 02/07/2010 11:41

littlemiss I got this one I had a look at the belly bandit but a) it cost a fortune and b) reviews said it was quite long on short torsos and I'm 5ft 2 so didn't want to have it all bunching up on me!

I'll start the new thread here

ElusiveMoose · 02/07/2010 13:10

Snowshine I was considering Twilight, but having been very sneery about it I feel a bit embarrassed at changing my mind now . I think I will go for the Stieg Larssons; I'm not generally a terribly sensitive soul, so I'm sure I can cope with a bit of gore even in labour.

Joey, I'd forgotten I was going to do loads of cooking for the freezer . Lucky my mum's brought me a few meals, bless her.

LittleMissSnowShine · 02/07/2010 15:57

Elusive - I liked Stieg Larsson AND Twilight - don't know what that says about me lol - I'm a romantic soul that loves a bit of violence and political intrigue too perhaps?? I'm trying to think of a good book to bring into hospital myself, tho everyone keeps telling me I'm mad and I won't be able to concentrate on reading anything, so I'm glad you're doing this too!!

Joey - Just put that on my to do list today. Must shop for and cook some meals for freezer a bit nearer the time. The heat is completely putting me off going anywhere near the kitchen at the min tho, so hoping that if I don't get round to this that family will help out on this front! V jealous of your organisational skills tho!!

'is that nerves I'm sensing?...things are getting exciting'.

Hurrah for cherry. Sounds like there's going to be a good birth story considering she was only commenting on lack of sleep on FB at 4am - must've been quick.

Back after Andy Murray hammers Rafa Nadal. Or not.

cazzybabs · 02/07/2010 18:45

All i can say Cherry I told you so

ElusiveMoose · 02/07/2010 20:23

Snowshine, newborns sleep a lot, particularly just after birth, so if you're in hospital for any length of time (I was in for 5 days) then you'll definitely have plenty of reading time. I not only finished my HP but also played endless games of cards with DH (another tip for the hospital bag, by the way). And as for concentrating - actually, I found the beauty of a good/absorbing book was that it really did allow me to think about something other than the baby for a few minutes, whereas a magazine would never have been able to do that.

It's very different once you get home, though, when you've got cooking and cleaning and washing and everything else to do - at least in hospital you don't have to worry about all that nonsense. I know it's terribly unfashionable to say it, but I'm actually quite jealous of our mothers' generation, who had 10 days in hospital as standard (only first time round, though - obviously with a toddler at home I want to come out quickly to be with him).
