fudge I'm so sorry to hear your news. You, your DP and Splodge are in my prayers. Like aly I have so much admiration for the strength you have shown over the last few weeks.

halo hope your scan gives you good news today

luckyseven · 03/08/2010 23:42

fudge like everyone else i am so sorry to hear about the scan. I echo what they say your strength and determination is amazing. I am thinking about you and hope things take a turn for the better.

Ozziegirly · 04/08/2010 01:25

Fudge I am so desperately sorry to hear that news. Splodge has proved the medics wrong in the past though so maybe there is still hope. Your family continues to be in my thoughts and prayers and I have such awe that you are coping with this awful time.

Ozziegirly · 04/08/2010 02:27

bunny on a side note, I don't know how you're going shopping wise, but I popped into Target yesterday, and they had loads of things on special offer.

I have also been looking for a nappy bag and had only seen ones over $120 in Myer. But found a perfectly nice respectable one for $30!

If you're a lover of posh handbags it won't be for you, but it's a functional, not awful, not too huge bag for a very good price.

Also, Big W have loads of maternity nightwear, again, nothing fancy, but serviceable and functional. I also got a lambskin liner for the carseat/pram for $25 which I thought was a real bargain.

Mind you, after this bargain shopping I rather blew it by buying a Hot Milk bra for $70....

bunnygirl80 · 04/08/2010 03:59

ozzie thanks for the tips. I've been meaning to get some maternity nightwear after an incident a couple of weeks ago involving me squeezing myself into my pjs, bending down to take my socks off and hearing the delightful sound of the bottoms splitting in two

Am now relegated to wearing DHs instead, but he's banned me from wearing them during/after the birth in case they get anything yucky on them

I'm becoming more and more convinced that despite having seen LO on 5 scans which seem to show only 2 arms and 2 legs that I am in face going to have an octopus baby, and the scans have just missed all of his extra limbs!! He has been wriggling constantly for the last 2 days, and the kicks and punches are all over my belly. I am actually wondering if he's had a go at turning head down, as there was an awful lot of movement for a day or so, and now the hard lump that I could feel if I poked the top of my bump really hard has gone. Maybe he got pissed off with me constantly poking him in the head

WorrisomeHeart · 04/08/2010 12:42

bunny lol re your octopus baby - maybe you could put him to work trying to guess the next world cup results?

luckyseven · 04/08/2010 12:42

hey halo just checking in to see how you got on this morning. I really hope all is ok.

MrsWajs · 04/08/2010 15:30

Just poking my head in to see if there was any news on halo and also to say to fudge that I was very sorry to read your news, all the frolickers are thinking of you at this difficult time.x

Hermya321 · 04/08/2010 16:46

Halo I hope things went ok this morning.

Really hope that you got good news today Halo x

haloflo · 04/08/2010 17:27

Hello all! Sorry this is the first chance i've had to get on MN. Scan went well. Measured 9.6mm and a little heart was beating. No reason at all for the spotting.

They tried for the external scan first and at that point I was terrified that there was nothing there as it just looked like a big black hole on the screen. When she finally spotted something tiny I was worried because it looked so small. Pants came off next for the internal (I wish we'd gone straight for this as during the external I needed to wee so badly I couldn't think straight) and there was the little bean with a small flicker.

The lady doing the ultrasound worried me when she said that I was measuring slightly under 7 weeks but then back in the office I was told everything was fine. Google tells me a 7 week embryo should measure about 1cm and I'm only 4mm less than that. Surely that's ok?

Anyway now I'm officially pg I will try and contribute to the thread more.

PS fudge Thinking of you. We are here whenever you need us. I hope you feel a little stronger today.

Hermya321 · 04/08/2010 17:40

Halo I think measurements aren't always supposed to be the same for all women. I suspect if there had been a problem, they would have said so.

OP posts:
bunnygirl80 · 04/08/2010 23:07

halo I'm glad your scan went well. I reckon 9.6mm is pretty close to 1cm - a difference of 0.4mm could easily be down to a slight error in measurement, or if you conceived even a day later than you thought then LO will measure slightly samller than you'd expect.

worrisome if I have an octopus baby with psychic powers I'll be able to make millions selling my story to trashy mags and reality tv. I could be the new octomum

fudge I'm still thinking of you

I was rudely awakened last night by DH leaping out of bed screaming, running across the room and turning all the lights on. Apparantly he thought he saw a spider Poor thing was dreaming, and didn't even fully wake up when I got up to help him look for the killer spider and help him back to bed. He was fast asleep again in seconds while I was awake for about another hour trying to get comfortable and settle my nerves I suppose I should be greatful that he was willing to leap up and try and save me from the imaginary spider

OneOf8 · 05/08/2010 09:08

This is great news Halo!, with my early one, they dated LO 2 week-ish back form LMP, which concerned me, but then added a week at the 12 week scan.

Because everything is so small, the error margin is slightly more for "dating" up to 8 weeks - My midwife told me this. Not sure if it is medically 100% true or she was trying to put my mind at ease! BUT to strenghten her reasoning this is apparently why if you have an early scan prior to 8 weeks in our area they also do one around 12 wk, but if you are dated at this as being after 8 weeks the next one is the 20 week one.

Bunny That is so funny! if my OH thought he saw a spider, he'd ignore it! If it was a wasp however, he'd run a mile leaving me to fend for myself!

addie81 · 05/08/2010 11:04

Halo - I am working at home today and I have the scan I had done at 7 weeks and 3 days in front of me on the noticeboard above my desk - my measurement is 9.6mm. My baby girl is now measuring at least 2 weeks ahead of dates so is a whopper - on that basis I am totally confident that 9.6mm at a 7 week scan is absolutely nothing to worry about, I bet your little one will catch up quickly and end up massive like mine who was big by 12 weeks, quite big by 20 weeks, and huge by 30weeks! I was told at the time of the 7 +3 scan that the measurement was correct for a 7 week and 2 day baby, and they changed my due date accordingly, so maybe whoever scanned you is using a particularly big scale!

NovemberAli · 05/08/2010 13:13

Great news Halo, wishing you a trouble free remaining pregnancy!

haloflo · 05/08/2010 17:12

Hey all.

Thank you so much for the reassurance. Further googling tells me that a 6 week embryo would only measure 4mm so mine was defiantly much more than that.

addie Thank in particular for the reassurance, that's good to know. The word "whopper" is a slightly scary one though! You enjoying working from home? I have a feeling I would end up on MN, making drinks, watching tv. Anything but work basically. Although the office grinds me down with its horrid lighting & stinky food smells, I think I need the discipline!

oneof8 I was thinking about how small a mm actually is today and how they just popped a cross from one side to the other even though it wasn't that clear where the edge was. Defiantly a margin for error there.

bunny I'm glad that wasn't a spider. Bless your DH being all protective (even against imaginary things!)

Right anyway I need food. My life seems to revolve around the stuff at the moment and the second I get hungry I feel sick. Pizza tonight as it was easy and fast to cook. I'm trying not to pile the pounds on but fear i'm currently fighting a losing battle.

Spirael · 06/08/2010 10:04

Hi all! :) I am still around, just been reading rather than posting for a bit.

fudgecat, I'm really sorry to hear the latest scan wasn't optimistic. :( I just can't imagine what you're going through. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a miracle for you.

haloflo, I had a bit of spotting in the first few weeks with Mindy. :) And they changed my due date every time I had a scan due to the length differing from what they expected from the previous due date I'd been given. So try not to worry!

bunnygirl I can sympathise with your DH, I get those kind of waking dreams all the time. Confused Pretty much every night at the moment I dream Mindy is cuddled up in bed with me (we've never co-slept) and semi-wake still believing it. But then I can't feel her in my arms so panic and fumble around trying to find her, before realising she's safely tucked up asleep in the moses basket next to the bed. Blush

A particularly epic time, I was dreaming she was crawling on the ceiling and woke still believing it. Poor DH almost had a heart attack as I leapt to my feet on the bed screaming to grab her before she fell. Wink

A new tip! If you're planning to breast feed, getting something like this is pretty helpful as you will spend hours in a chair so will want to make sure to have food/drink/remotes/phone/tissues/muslin/laptop/etc within reach.

superpenguin · 06/08/2010 13:31

Hello everyone!
Just to say I am still here!
Haven't been on here for AGES as have been mad-crazy-busy at work lately.
Anyway, all is ok.
Haven't read through all the zillions of posts yet but will do at some point!

My update:
9 weeks + 4 days now!
My sickness has been worse lately and I was sick last night but although feel crap all day it seems worse in the evenings these days.
Had my booking in appointment on fri 30th which all went well. They asked me a million questions, weighed and measured me, took my blood pressure, gave me my notes and a book full of info, oh and tried to take some blood but couldn't find any. I have rubbish veins.
Am waiting to hear about my 12-week scan date now. Hope they tell me soon and give me enough notice.
Will come back and post again soon! x

superpenguin · 06/08/2010 14:55

Am finally caught up I think!

Ozzie and pixie - how are you enjoying your maternity leave?
Ozzie your DH's new employers sound fab!

fudgecat so sorry to hear about your scan. thinking of you. :(

Halo glad to hear everything is ok for you. :)

Hope everyone else is ok!

MrsWajs · 06/08/2010 15:40

Hi guys, how are you all? Just wanted to pick your brains (as you are the ones in the know)

Did any of you have a BFN which letr turned into a BFP (same test stick) and was it reliable???

I had a BFN on Wednesday but when I rechecked the stick on Thursday it had a faint positive, was definitely pick but just a lot lighter and was a superdrug test if that helps??

Would appreciate any words of wisdom although I know it's an unusual one.

Thinking of POAS'ing again tomorrow morning but am terrified it'll be negative again!!

MrsWajs · 06/08/2010 15:43

Sorry few spelling mistakes letr = later, pick = pink!!

Hermya321 · 06/08/2010 19:22

Mrswajs I can't say I've had that, I think the only way you're really going to know is to test again tbh or wait until you get your period. After the time limit on the test you can't really rely on the results as it could be a false positive. I know you're terrified it's going to negative again, but it's better to know for sure than work yourself into a bit of a state. Are you still cramping?

OP posts:
mumnerves · 06/08/2010 20:12

halo so pleased to hear the scan went well!!

superpenguin sorry to hear you feel rubbish but not long left to go till you start enjoying the pregnancy x

MrsWajs sorry no info for you but just wanted to say good luck and hope ERTD stays away x

MrsWajs · 06/08/2010 21:42

Hermya Cramping was much stronger today but has eased off again now and really don't feel much except a bit windy and constipated so difficult sometimes to differentiate what's what!! Sorry TMI!!

Well we'll all know as of tomorrow morning I suppose - wish me luck!!
