OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
GiraffeYoga · 04/05/2010 11:29

Hi Diege
Yay for TTC schedule and decorators (that sounds odd all in one sentence!)

Thanks- think you are right about the withdrawal (awful word!) risk factor...not much chance I just dont get the constant weeing thing...Only ever got that before when preg.

Diege · 04/05/2010 12:59

Arghh am all stressed out, migraine just starting. Have spent all year building up a degree programme, have taken staff on, recruited students, written materials, then get an e-mail this morning telling me it's being 'pulled' (seems to be because of a fall-out between people far higher up the greasy pole than me about staffing...)So now I have to let 15 prospective students and 2 staff members know that they have no place/job come September Sorry for rant, feel a bit better now.

GiraffeYoga · 04/05/2010 13:12

Oh no, and for you ... I cant believe that they can just do that.

Rant away here- thats why we are here

Do you still have a job?

GiraffeYoga · 04/05/2010 13:13

sorry if i've missed this point before - but build up a degree programme!! wow, you are a proper cheese in whole of academia

GiraffeYoga · 04/05/2010 13:18

that should have read- world of academia not whole!

Diege · 04/05/2010 14:15

Hee hee, more a crumbling gorgonzola I'd say Am in 'negotiations' as we speak, though not hopeful. My job is safe I think (I've just sent an e-mail asking that)though will need to ring up one student asap as he's given his notice here to start degree in Sept. I have 15 students recruited so far, need 20 (so they say, was 12 last time I looked..)I can offer them another degree programme, but not one I'd choose...
I've had my paper accepted for conference though, which is good. Off to do some e-baying now while waiting for e-mail ping to see if my job is safe long-term

Kayzr · 04/05/2010 15:20

I'm gonna kill my xmil!!!! Apparently I don't care about the boys because I get drunk on the weekends I don't have the boys. Surely it doesn't fucking matter if I don't have them!!!! I just want to strangle her!!!

tinkhasaspringinherstep · 04/05/2010 17:03

Diege - oh no

kay - not ex mil again!!!!!!!!!!!!

tinkhasaspringinherstep · 04/05/2010 17:03

dh has put rocking chair on @ work
no calls here about them!!!

LaTourEiffel · 04/05/2010 18:25

Hi all,

poorlies after poorlies here - DS1 has had tonsillitis, DS2 an ear and eye infection, DH has had some sort of cough / cold / flu thing and passed it on to me - and I've converted it neatly into a nasty case of pharyngitis....all a bit pants really, but at least its made me slow down and wedge myself on the sofa for a little bit

DS1 is going to stay in pre-school for a bit longer tomorrow too to give me longer to rest before picking him up - just hope he doesn't notice!

DS2 is now 6 months and 3 weeks, has just cut his third tooth on the bottom, but still doesn't roll - although he can shift himself round in a circle by wiggling his hips - he also doesn't eat, which is a pain, I was hoping it might settle the night time boob-munching but he just doesn't want to eat

If i give him stuff on a spoon he firmly closes his mouth before it gets in and if i give him bits in a BLW style, he just isn't interested - he'll chew everything else in sight, but not food. Not used to this, DS1 just scoffed everything and got cross with me if I didn't shovel it in fast enough!

Assume this is all in the normal range of development? Anyone?

Can't believe how many of you are talking about having another! Seems too soon for me, but that's because mine's such a litle (huh!) baby still.

Kay, hope everythings OK with you? x

essenceofSES · 04/05/2010 18:38

Hello!

LaTour - sorry for all the poorlies. Sometimes it just seems like one thing after another.
Re DS2 weaning, I was quite lucky that O seems like your DS1 but I know from friends that it's not always the case and some LOs just take a bit longer to discover the joy of food. The mantra we were told to keep in mind is the "food is for fun until they're 1". If you think of it like that, he's got plenty of time to get used to it. From the sounds of things, he's still enjoying his milk so I wouldn't worry and just keep offering a mixture of finger foods (and purees if you want) so he can take it at his own pace.

Kay - I guess XMIL was always going to continue to be an issue. You know yourself how well you care for DSs and she really isn't going to achieve much by saying these things.

Diege - How awful!!! for you!!!
Hope negotiations do the trick although I can understand your hesitance in that.
LOL at ttc schedule though!

Giraffe - ooh! Anything's possible although unlikely at the same time... When is AF due? Are you going to do a test at some point?

Nat -

Tink - hope the chair gets sold

GiraffeYoga · 04/05/2010 19:13

Hi

Latour, hope you are all better soon

Tink - sorry for bad luck with the chair... hopefully tomorrrow will be better.

Nat- hope new place is good!

Ses- i think its v unlikely too..I am putting it down to my hormones getting back to normal after stopping BF.

Hi eveeryone else

GruffaloSoldier · 04/05/2010 20:51

Hi all!

GY - oooh how cool would that be though are you going to test to make sure??

Tink - Ebay it!

La Tour - sorry for being ill!

Diege - sorry for work probs hope it turns out ok!

Ses - hello there!

NJ - I don't think you are excited enough, you need to crank it up a little more

another mad/busy day here! DH managed to drop an entire bucket full of water in our hallway = wooden floors and carpets sodden various mats/rugs/towels now drying all over the place and a very p'd of DH!

DH at work now until late and unicycling home tonight so will be home later than usual. (it takes about 1hr on bike so wont be too much longer than that)

GC took ages to go to sleep tonight, I dont think he is very well very snotty and clingy.

DH off tomorrow

Hello to anyone Ive missed!

LaTourEiffel · 04/05/2010 21:24

Thanks guys - I've not done much of a catch up - what's NJ excited about - I'm guessing something to do with either THE MOVE or THE COURSE - can anyone catch me up?

GYo - really? is this good? (secretly very excited!)

Poor GC, mine are all snoring in my bed, and I can't sleep coz my throat and ears hurt so much. Doc said I couldn't take anything other than paracetamol coz of breastfeeding, but Kellymom says that ibuprofen is Ok - Ses - do you know the score on this one? Is it possibly to do with DS2's hypoxic ischaemic encephalopthy (sp?) - although she didn't have his notes and didn't ask about it...

Am sat here with burning cheeks, trying to work out whether i'm hot or cold - its all pants :-(

NatalieJane · 05/05/2010 07:58

Good morning

Really quick one - no really!

Diege, have not a clue what you're talking about but it doesn't sound good, hope your job, at least, is safe.

La Tour, yes, t'is the move, got the keys Monday, they moved out yesterday, so we've all been in and had a proper look around etc. - it is going to be fabulous, eventually - lots of decoration needed, bit of a PITA, but it'll be worth it! DS2 was the same with weaning, he was about 7-7 and half months before he ate a thing, then there was no stopping him! The old 'food for fun till they're one' is a great saying - use it! Hope you're all feeling better, doesn't sound like fun at all

Kay, you know what, you no longer need to be polite to her, I wouldn't go in screaming, but really, don't let it bother you, you know what's right and wrong, and if she has a problem with anything, then it is her bloody problem! She's always sounded a very jealous woman to me, just try and take it on the chin and then forget, it's not worth your head space.

So yes, house needs lots of decorating, hoping it will look better with our things in because there is no way we've got time to have it all decorated within a short time, so it's going to be a case of most desperate first I think. But other than that, it is great Can't wait for Saturday now

Had the biggest fright of my life yesterday though, we were coming from the new house to the old house, DH was putting DS3 in his car seat, and DS2 fell over and was crying, he only cries when he's properly hurt, I was in the house and didn't hear anything, by the time DS1 got to me and I came out, DH had finished putting DS3 in his seat, and rushed to see to DS2. I was driving the car home because DH had his van (he'd come straight from work) so he was following us, got to the busiest T junction in the village, went round the corner and DS2's door opened, DH had obviously not shut the door properly in the rush to get to DS2 when he fell. DS1 screamed his head off in that scream that makes your heart skip a beat, I just stopped, blocked all the traffic on this blind junction, shut the door, drove home - have no idea how I did it, I don't remember, was just in shock I think. Stopped shaking about 11 o'clock last night

It's stupid really, they were all strapped in their seats, no one could have fallen out or anything, but it scared the shit out of me. Had flashing moments of real proper anger at DH, but soon realised it was the rush to get to George, and even if it hadn't have been that, it's not like he'd have left the door open on purpose!

Makes my blood run cold thinking of the 'what if's...', a bike running into it, a car running into it.

OK plan for today, going to do a BIIIIIIGGGG shop to be delivered at the new house tomorrow, (we've run out of nearly everything - t'was alwasy the plan to let everything run down so we'd just have a huge shop delivered to move in with), then got some clearing up to do here (old house!) where I've taken the boxes and stuff out of the dining room, it all want's hoovering etc., then, big cleans on the bathrooms so we can just give them a quick once over on the last day, and by then DS1 will be home so we'll get the car loaded up a few times and take it all down to the new house. Am finding I quite like doing this moving lark, it's nice to be the one putting things in the rooms even though they're all in boxes! - freak!

Bloody hell, I've done it again, going to rush all morning now! Must stop gabbing! Will be back at some point, but soon enough it is going to hit 'hectotic' levels and I'll probably dissapear for a bit! Bye for now xxx (feel about 80 using 'bye for now'!)

NatalieJane · 05/05/2010 08:38

Sorry, DS3's door opened!

maxxymoosmummy · 05/05/2010 08:43

can anyone please give me a quick update?

cantmummyhaveabreak · 05/05/2010 08:53

Morning-

Nat, that must have been very scary- sacred me when just our boot flew open once, right on a round about, DH stopped and i jumped out and shut it... i was worried my pram would roll out and cause a massive accident- not to think what stopping could have done!!

Had a very shitty couple of days... migrane only just left me yesterday ... and had my mum and MMM here most of the day, and my aunty for the morning too. was hectic but fun. didn't manage any cleaning tho so felt really guilty last night and was cleaning the bathroom at 9.30pm in guilt.

Today i have a list the size of my arm to get done- got to sort our room out- been doing bits and bobs in their all week but keep getting disturbed and it's now about half done!! Have our friends staying in our room on sat night so i need to get it done. need to sort the DC's room- again- so that we can get the airbed in their for us... then need a general tidy in the living room too- thoguht i'll be scooting round on sat am cleaning up after the kids by how fast they can mess it all up again!! Actually- just realised i dont have that much to do... supposed to be washing the bedding, but thoguht i should leave it till sat as we're putting clean sheets on for sat night anyway.

Can anyone give me a bit of help too?... DC's are both out of nappies at night (DD just started all on her own 2 weeks ago) DS has a little washable mat thing under his sheet to protect the matress, but if he's had an accident i sometimes forget to put it back on after it's been washed, and he's had a couple of accidents actually on the bed... DD1 hasn't got a bed mat thing yet, ordering one ASAP. Anyway- what i'm asking, DS's bed smells a bit of wee, despite stripping it as soon as i know he's wet and letting it air off all that day... anyone know anything i can get rid of the smell with without just covering it in febreeze?

tinkhasaspringinherstep · 05/05/2010 09:07

morning

nat - [shcok] must have been scary!!!

cant - migraines r awful!!!

hi la tour

hi to everyone else

off to music with mummy

dark here and cold where has spring gone

hopefully toys in paper today so crossing fingers!!
can check when paper comes through door

cant - not sure what to advise apart from airin matress outside maybe

latour - they can be so different re eating !!

dd1 so fussy always has been and still is

dd2 the complete opposite!! eats everything

could be refusing as teething can make them off food !!
dd2 was on purred jars up to 6mnths for ages will he have them?!

Starshinetiger · 05/05/2010 11:44

Hi All, Not been on for ages due to all manner of things. Now in work this morning and doing a flying visit.

LaTour - lovely to see you back, commiserate on all the poorlies. Have had poorlies in our house for coming up 2 weeks now. This morning have had to beg nursery to take DD for an extra session this morning (she's fully better now) because DH normally has her at home on a Weds am but he has come down with D&V - I never normally do nursery drop-offs 'cos I'm at work by the time they open, but dropped both children this morning - DD cried when I left and then when I came out of her room, DS was waiting for me in his nursery school and was all teary - really broke my heart!

On subject of weaning - DD was the same, was really slow to take to food (unlike DS). I distinctly remember she really gobbled her first jar at 9 months (not what you want to hear) - we were up in Scotland for a wedding and just trying to feed her before the wedding, hence the jar, sat in Tescos cafe, when she suddenly decided she would get into food! Just when we needed to be somewhere!! I totally agree that the food is fun until their 1 does help, but it doesn't help so much with the fact that they still want to feed regularly in the night!! I found a good suggestion which said don't bother with breakfast - start with solids at lunch or tea when you've had a chance to give them a good couple of hours without milk and then they'll be hungrier. It did help with DD. He will get there in the end though - DD does quite enjoy her food now, but has nowhere near the appetite her brother did at that age.

Can't - think my SIL suggested carpet vanish when we had similar with DS - he wet through once when I had not put the protector back on and as carpet vanish is not designed to be washed out it works well on a mattress. Might be worth a go?

Diege - sorry for degree course nonsense, hope it all works out - rubbish when they change the boundaries with no explanations.

Gruff - sorry for AF and for water spillage, hope you have a better day today.

GYo - funny what our bodies do to us isn't it.

Nat - Yay for new house. Sounds so exciting. Horrors with car though - glad all are okay. The shock really is the worst thing.

Kayz - boo to MIL

Tink - yay for shopping as always.

Sorry for anyone I've missed - must dash, should be working!

tinkhasaspringinherstep · 05/05/2010 12:04

hi sst

have put bits on ebay so hoping

they arent in paper

NatalieJane · 05/05/2010 13:13

Afternoon

Have just eaten my weight in potato and onion rostis, knew I shouldn't have looked in the freezer!

Have a good excuse though been doing a huuuuuge Ocado shop all morning, usually takes 10 minutes, but we are so low on everything I went through every single catagory, in between cooking and eating and seeing to the kids, that is all I've done , now got to whizz round and do the cleaning - playing catch up already! Have tried to get in enough of everything for 2 weeks, thought it'd make it easier next week, not sure how to break the news to DH that I've spent over half the shopping budget for the month and we're only 5 days in

MMM - welcome back Sorry you've both been poorly Hope you had a fun break away? I don't know how far back to go with catch up but think the main things of recent weeks is LG&T's and Playing's pregnancies

Can't, am sure with all the cleaning you've been doing you must have ran out of places to clean by now surely?!

Tink, hope you had fun at music with mummy? Fingers crossed for eBayed bits

SST, sound's like you've had a hectic morning, hope your afternoon levels out a bit!

Right, have no idea where I'm going to start yet but must do something, catch you all later x

maxxymoosmummy · 05/05/2010 14:16

congratulations LG&T and PLAYING

tinkhasaspringinherstep · 05/05/2010 15:30

cheers nat

yep music with mummy good

mm - good luck with delievery

NatalieJane · 05/05/2010 15:59

Well that was a fun experience, was on the phone to my sister, Mikey started whinging so I got off the phone and came in, he'd taken his trousers off, had had a lovely smelly poo which he'd been painting with, all over his clothes, his pen, the toys, and by the time the bath was run and he was in, me. You sure you lot want more of these beings that smear you, them, and everything with poo? It's strange what you put up with as a mum, if someone else smeared me with poo I certainly wouldn't have ran them a bath and played tugtug boats with them...

We've had a change of plan here, I am going to pack some more bits up now and wait for DH to get home, he's going to stay with the kids while I take a few car loads up to the house - it's chucking it down, DS2 and 3 aren't especially happy today, and it's easier to do the packing up/unloading cars thing with no little people to get in the way.
