Very tired and weepy/angry today. We were supposed to have flown off to Tunisia yesterday but volcano has ruined that. Just realised that I won't ever have a romantic week abroad with just my DH again. And I'd slimmed down to a size 12 bikini as well.

There won't be another opportunity to go abroad together; my brother is having a bone marrow transplant in early June and we'll need to be around over the summer. After that, I'll be too pregnant to fly.

After some bleeding yesterday and this morning I took myself off to St Thomas's to get checked out and was extremely relieved to see a heart beat on the scan. As a bonus I discovered that my left kidney is in my pelvis! Apparently nothing to worry about, and not connected with the unexplained bleeding, but odd none the less. Now I feel like I should go and find some lower body armour to wear for the rest of the pregnancy...

moomaa · 19/04/2010 13:34

RaceyLacey - Verso is quite nice to drive, got enough oomph for me, and I have been an Audi driver in past well dh's Audi, then we went to a sporty version Civic that was very nippy so I have been used to faster cars. It is probably a bit different if you are fully loaded, when I drive it is normally only me and two toddlers.

TheChangeSpiral · 19/04/2010 13:35

Miffster So sorry to hear your holiday has been cancelled. Don't give up on having an romantic, exotic getaway just yet though. Even if you're too preggers to fly there are so many places you can go without getting on a plane. For example, you can get to Morocco in about a day and a half by train!

I recently went to Vietnam overland on trains and buses. Although admittedly it did take a few months but technically you could do it in 2 weeks. You can go from London to Beijing in a week too. Not that I'm suggesting you might want to do this but the world without planes isn't nearly as big as you might think.

I realy hope you get your holiday! x

comtessa · 19/04/2010 15:57

Firsttimer2010 Me too with the stomach muscles! Really feels like I've over-stretched - ha, chance would be a fine thing! I'm either feeling awful or asleep!

Also, has anyone else's DH completely gone off sex? When we were talking last night, he said he just didn't feel comfortable with sex at any time during my pregnancy. I suggested he just wanted to benefit and (TMI alert!) just have me go down on him instead, but he said no, he just didn't feel comfortable with sexual activity at all until after the baby's born. I feel like we'll be missing out because (not that I feel like it any time now!) part of sex is just the intimacy and the lying together afterwards and I feel really sad that I'm going to have to wait so long for that. (

Anyone else had this so far from their DH/DP?

comtessa · 19/04/2010 15:58

Oops, that was meant to be a sad face.

Can I join please?

Baby number 1 due 16 December.

No idea how to choose a hospital, what I should be doing, or anything! Feel clueless and too nervous to be excited. Oh and tired!

Any tips on how to choose a hospital or anything else I can do to feel useful / vaguely sorted!?

Hey Firsttimer2010, sorry to hear of your predicament. I asked DH and he says sex is different and he's slightly distracted by the thought of the baby, imagining it's much bigger than it really is and a bit worried about squashing it. That said, our sex life has been about normal cosidering I feel exhausted most of the time. Maybe it would help your DH to talk to some male friends who are dads. I know what you mean about intimacy, I always say to DH that I like sex because I'm assured of his undivided attention ! Maybe set aside time to have a bath together, massage or go to bed a bit early for 10 minutes of cuddles.

Hi all, just found out I'm pregnant with our second, somewhere between 4 and 5 weeks at the moment. Feeling nauseous already (! was much later with my DD), a bit tired, faint and bloated. Last time I barely ate anything for months and now I'm finding I'm having to eat and keep still to stop from feeling sick. Have just enjoyed a crisp and salad cream sandwich!! I'm really dreading these next 10 weeks as I was so poorly last time and now I have a toddler to look after too, who is currently having a tantrum on the floor because she refused to have a nap. Hey ho, the rest of it seems like it'll be a breeze in comparison.

Re the sex, my DH was really wierd about it too and we had sex less times than I could count on my fingers in my last pregnancy. And for the few months after it too.

TheChangeSpiral was that aimed at me?

Welcome to newcomers

snozzcumber - you could have a look at getting a prgenancy bok. I quite liked 'the rough guide to pregnancy and birth' which goes through pregnancy week by week. As long as you're taking folic acid and avoiding the stuff you shouldn't be having (sure there's a list on MN) just try and get rest if you need it.

In terms of choosing a hospital I guess it depends on where you live as to what's available, and what you think you might want in terms of pain relief as well. I think midwife led units don't have epidurals for instance. Your doctors can advise on what you need to do to get booked in with the midwife if you give them a call.

HTH, and congrats!

I've been having quite a few more niggling pains, some sharp and also (sorry, tmi) a bit of diarrhea as well. Can't remember having this last time, anyone else in same boat?

deepblue · 19/04/2010 17:39

oops, crossed posts. Based on my long cycles my EDD is 26th December, washing, but I think it's earlier than that. Something like 3% of babies come on their due date, so you should be pretty safe lol. One of my best friends has had virtually no pregnancy symptoms and is about to deliver, and my SIL had an awful first tri ending with a missed miscarriage. So it goes to show that you never can tell with regard to symptoms.

Sorry Wholelottalove - was what aimed at you?

TheChangeSpiral · 19/04/2010 17:48

snozzcumber I've got the mumsnet guide to pregnancy and it's so readable - not just informative but often hilarious too. I've also got What to Expect but I'm finding it pretty patronising and stuffy to be honest so I'd recommend the MN one.

snozzcumber · 19/04/2010 17:51

Thanks Wholelottalove and Littlesnoo - that's my evening sorted on the net - hospitals and amazon! I'm on acid (as it were ) and have been avoiding yummy stinky cheese etc, and told DH that he might have to go easy on his usual summer BBQ habit this year.

To be totally honest, all I can think of in terms of pain relief is that I want as much as possible. But I know lots of people are advocates of natural births. Being blunt - why? What are the benefits of trying to keep things natural - doesnt it just risk the whole thing hurting more?

I'm in N2, so options are Royal Free, Whittington, Barnet General, UCH. Anyone else on this thread in the same area, or any experienced mums with any advice on those hositals?

'Had the most splendid day reading in the sunshine yesterday. My ears were treated to a riot of sounds from birds and insects and I was tickled by how much grass looks like the earth's fur.'

Sorry, TheChangeSpiral just sounded like a piss take as I'd posted something about being in the garden and doing some writing, but I've been known to take offence where none was meant so thought I'd check. It may be my pg hormones are being hyper-sensitive in which case, apologies.

Snozzcumber - there are some arguments vs some pain relief - e.g. epdiurals may cause other complications or pethidine make baby sleepy/harder to feed - not that I'm an expert or particularly 'against' any form of pain relief. There's loads and loads of books and resources on the net if you want to look into it. I'll try and find my books and see which ones were good.

notso · 19/04/2010 18:43

TheChangeSpiral thanks, phoned the m/w and they are going to do a blood test just to be on the safe side.

I don't feel pg, my boobs are sore, I feel nauseous and I'm off chocolate but I don't feel any different.
I can't remember if I did in other pg's but feel really paranoid this time that somethings not right. Maybe it's because I have had to tell people early rather than it just being DH and I in the know until the first scan.

TheChangeSpiral · 19/04/2010 18:45

Wholelottalove Certainly no piss take intended - it's just the ridiculous way I think/talk!
