So sorry to hear Firsttimer's news.
OnlywantsOne - please try not to worry too much. The vast majority of pregnancies go on as normal if a healthy heartbeat in the right-sized embryo's been seen after 7 wks. It's normal to cramp for some people - I did through my entire first trimester with DS. I've been cramping this time too, before my own brown spotting started. Now I've had the spotting, I'm panicking more about the cramps, but at the moment I don't think they're any worse than they were before I thought I had something to worry about, if you get me!
If they get a lot worse or there are other reasons you're worried, you could call NHS Direct if out-of-hours and they might refer you to A&E (where someone is often able to do a scan). If it's during the day/week, if you can get to your MW first (she sounded v understanding) I'm sure she'd be able to arrange another scan at the EPU.
FWIW, I'm cramping a bit at the moment (lower back pain, like mild period cramps) and last time I looked, nothing was 'happening' in terms of discharge.
Hope you feel better soon and that it all calms down.
