alle01 · 20/04/2010 11:53

oh hollyoaks, i'm afraid i haven't got a clue, but my simpathies, that is a real dilemma, i don't know what to suggest, but i have two nephews, one they took the nappies off when he wasn't ready, and told him off for the accidents, he kept on having accident until he was four, so i would say whatever you do, cannot be traumatic or against her will, or it will just be a step backwards, the other one told me himself at nearly three that he does not need a nappy no more, and he is very proud of it, maybe with rewards and stickers or something similar she will agree to use the potty without forcing her, you can always tell her that the new baby needs the nappies and she must pass them on, it worked with my nephew, we have two new babies in the family, so he 'gave' them the nappies,...good luck

Carikube · 20/04/2010 12:40

James I won't be using a tens machine in labour as I tried one with DD and didn't get on with it at all. I think it doesn't help that I have no coordination so kept getting my 'blast' moments the wrong way round and found it more stressful trying to work out when to push the button than the actual contractions themselves But that's probably just me - I know other people who swear by them (I didn't really get on with G&A either as I couldn't coordinate my breathing properly - I should just admit that I'm a bit useless really!).

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 20/04/2010 12:51

DD engaged early as well, but arrived at 39 weeks after induction so I don't think it means much. This one isn't engaged yet but feels very low, much worse than DD ever did.

James - I used a TENS machine last time. I quite liked it although I'm not sure how much it actually helped with the pain - I think it gave me something to focus on. I'm not getting one this time round but mostly because I might be having a section so don't want to waste the money getting it if I don't need it.

Good luck to those with exams, I'm very impressed that you're sitting them at this point in pregnancy!

itshappenedagain · 20/04/2010 12:53

hello all! just ahda brief look though posts...
littleowl congrats on your new arrival...wishing him a speedy weight gain and back home with you soon.

Hollyoaks... my friend used bribary 1 chocolate button for sitting on the potty( even if wearing pants/nappy at the time, 2 for a wee and 3 for a poo. and sticker charts for all successes. it definitely worked for her, adn i would stick with it if she is not wanting the nappy on. I was very lucky with my Ds we chose and bought the pants and i got some pull ups for night, but he refuse to wear them and once out of nappies we didnt look back, only had a few accidents, usually because he hadnt tucked his penis into the loo, resulting in it going all over the pants. good luck and keep going!!! oh and wilkos sell packs of 500 stickers for 45p!

i measured my bump last night after reading posts and im now 49 inches around my waist...it was 24 inches before pregnancy, i also stupidly weighed myself and now weigh 11 stone, am hoping that it will come off qickly with breastfeeding pus running around after a small child! i was up all night again with regular contraction type pains, and di start to worry slightly, but again they were braxton hicks, probably due to too much walking abround yesterday.

itshappenedagain · 20/04/2010 12:57

oh! nearly forgot... pamelat- unfortunately my exam is red brick uni and although they have been helpful i cant do my exam at home...which would be fab as i currently have it on the 11th floor or the uni building, its my final exam for my degree so really really want to pass with best mark i can so i can graduate in july...if not i have to wait until next year and have already defered it from last year due to circumstances at the time. good luck with your though...what is it on? mine is target organ toxicology!

memorylapse · 20/04/2010 13:41

BRB..more snow?? god I hope not..exciting that you are having your section next week

Hollyoaks..with my other children Ive very much let them lead me with the potty training..so if DD wants to sit on the potty and wear pants..Id go with it..she may not always "go" on it and there will be accidents but let her guide you..if shes ready..she will just do it..you may find that she regresses a little when LO is born as she will see LO having nappies and may feel left out, dont stress if that happens..it wont last long.

re mattresses..I needed the 66x29 mattress and got it from kiddicare...sadly DD does not seem to like her lovely John Lewis basket and will only sleep in her pram

Im feeling upset for my kids..the two little ones 9 and 5 are supposed to be flying to florida in 2 weeks to disneyworld..DM booked the holiday last year and its cost thousands..now of course with the ash..its probably not happening..really feel for DM and the DC'S

newmomma · 20/04/2010 14:55

Hi all...

Just about to put my feet up and watch a trashy movie but wanted to say a huge congratulations to littleowls!!

Hope Joel (fab name btw!) is home soon and you're recovering well.

Just wanted to say thanks to well-wishers for my ECV today - as it turns out the little blighter has moved and is now cephalic, spine to the left so all ok with the world for now. UNLESS SHE MOVES AGAIN!

Going to sit very still and hold in what tummy muscles I have left so she can't wriggle into the wrong position again.

Enjoy the rest of the arvo sun ladies! xxx

mustbemadno3 · 20/04/2010 15:07

james I used a tens machine in my last labour and didnt find it brilliant and certainley not in the later stages. But I have brought one for this time as I think it helps you to labour at home for longer. May all be pshycological but anything to stay at home as long as possible I say!

Ohh ml I hope they managed to get to disney they will be soo disappointed bless them. Although it is better to be on the cautious side, so just hope it clears so they can get there holiday.

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 20/04/2010 15:45

ML, lets hope your DC's & DM get their holiday. At least if it's cancelled though they might be able to reshedule for later in the year???
Sorry no personal replies, I'm so tired. Not sleeping well at all as getting very strong BH contractions, they're really taking the wind out of me. More than fed up with it all now!

sweetkitty · 20/04/2010 15:56

hi everyone

littleowls - huge congratulations on the birth of Joel, I hope he is out of SCBU soon and home with you

Tomlin - I found the same thing with DD1, we started on reusables when she was 8 months old and yes you do need to buy bigger sized clothes and I found you have to change nappies a lot more, DD1 was a very heavy wetter and I found a lot of the nappies leaked after about an hour unless I had huge tots bots with a booster.

hollyoaks - I think how engaged a baby is bears no relation on early/lateness sorry especially in second plus babies. I am firmly in the camp of the later the better re potty training. Personally I would give up for a few months and maybe start again around July when the weather is nicer and you have the new baby and have recovered a bit. Just my opinion though.

ML - hope you are enjoying Olivia at home now, she is such a little doll, I feel as you were only a day ahead of me. Hope your DC make their holiday, I have a friend all booked up for Disney next week as well and is panicking a bit.

brightred - very exciting your date is next week, all this talk of snow is mad it's almost May!!!

James - I have never used a TENS machine in labour was thinking about it this time if I am induced but I think I will be too fast and furious again. Was planning on one with DD1 but she was too early. Have had friends use them and say they are great though.

newmomma - yey on turning baby, was it Pamelat who was having ECV today as well and was worried it would kick her off? Haven't heard from her today have we?

Cannot believe there are some of us sitting exams so pregnant, my brain is fuzz, takes me all my time to get through the day nevermind anything that requires me to actually think.

Not much to report here, I think all I want to do is sleep and pee every 10 minutes I am in the toilet. DD2 had her second school visit today, she didn't want to leave (her sister is in the class she was visiting as well). She is SO ready for school, I am just getting over DD1 going and now DD2 will be going too, my babies are growing up. DP has taken the big two to the park so I could nap when DD3 did.

OP posts:
newmomma · 20/04/2010 16:55

Yes, it was pamelat; we were both stressed that the ECV might result in a cs...

Come back and tell us how it went pamelat? Hope you're well?

myfirstbump · 20/04/2010 17:31

Congratumalations Littleowls! Hope he can come home soon.

Good luck to everyone sitting exams. I don't know how you're doing it, I know I couldn't manage and it's only been 3 years since I did them myself! Just think though, at the end of all of them you get to relax with a lovely new baby!

Newmomma, hope she stays put!

Hope you're doing ok Pamelat.

Pigley - how did your parents get on in the end? Did they make it home? Or have I just not read properly...

Nothing to report here. Aching doesn't seem to really cut it anymore when we've got babies being born (I'm not even going to try and compete with labour...)

I don't want to wait another month! I don't want Baby to put in an early arrival either, but I'm so looking forward to meeting my own little one now.

pigleychez · 20/04/2010 18:19

Tomlin- Hope DS's playschool leader's wedding goes ok!

My parents have got to Portsmouth on the ferry. Just had Mum on the phone in a strop as the train station isnt near the ferry port and they need to get a taxi with which theres a big queue. Shes going to be even happier when she rings again and I tell her that the trains are only every hour now so will looks like they will miss the 6.30 one and have to wait till 7.30 pm. Then have another 2 hours journey.
My mum gets sooooo stressed and takes it out on everyone around her. My Dad is a saint!
DD is being a nightmare, ive been trying to sort her out, cook dinner and getting moaned out by mum on the phone plus DH is playing Badminton tonight so not in till later. AARRGGHHH
Sorry Rant over

ML- Hope the flight ban blows over soon ( excuse the pun!) Our friends are getting married on Sat and fly out on Monday on thier honeymoon. The bride is starting to fret now too.

Newmomma- Glad baby has turned Great news... Hope it stays that way.

SK- Glad DD2 enjoyed her school trip

Heavily pregnant and exams!! No idea how you do it!

Gasmen have comfirmed that they are going to be doing the driveway tomorrow (Finally) which im dreading!

Anyone else get very sore underneath the bump? Feel like im have to hold it up by the end of the day. What times bed?!!?

pamelat · 20/04/2010 19:54

littleowls congratulations, hope Joel gets stronger quickly and you can soon have him home with you

newmomma great news re your position.

I went today and baby is still breech. I was also meant to be having the ECV but the consultant had gone home. Strangely I didnt mind at all because the scan was just so incredible and I was so happy that he was ok, and he looked so comfy and cute. (Photo on facebook, will try to upload on here)

He isn't footling breech though and my bp is not too high so they will try the ECV, if we decide thats what we want to do. The only other thing to consider is that the cord was near to his face, so the consultant might advise against it. Otherwise c sectin dates around 4/5th May discussed. They will give me a date and time next week .

Am tempted to go for the c section without trying ECV (?) but just worried about the impact on my DD (2.3) if I cant pick her up/reassure her etc.

Hope everyone else is also well. I am meant to be working until the end of next week but have booked the days as holiday so technically am off now!!!

Den26 · 20/04/2010 20:35

Evening all...

Congratulations littleowls!! Hope Joel is home with you soon.

Good luck to all those sitting exams - don't know how you manage!

Hope flight chaos ends soon too for all those affected.

cupcakefairy · 20/04/2010 20:48

Evening ladies
Had growth scan today and all fine; baby a bit below average size but that's ok! Saw lovely close-ups of the face which has made us more excited about meeting baby, it's so real now!

Huge congrats littleowls and love the name Joel hope you're coping ok with him in hospital still.

Loving all the nappy advice as we haven't got any yet so will be taking advantage of the Asda baby event!

Our lo is 3/5ths engaged too and I can also relate to the 'seismic' movements, it's pretty freaky!

Whoever it was who mentioned about leaky boobs, mine have been doing that since Christmas- I get a random wet patch on my top lovely. Thankfully I have long hair and tend to wear scarves a lot so can save embarrassment Let's hope it means we'll have great flow when feeding

Sassles · 20/04/2010 21:53

Hey Cupcakefairy I was the leaky culprit. Hasn't happened again since, but it's waiting to catch me out. Playingit safe with breast pads, but you can bet the one day I don't wear them.... Liking the great flow idea!

Congrats to all with lovely new babies. Getting so real now.

Thanks to the mattress talk. Liked the made to order website, that was fab, but got perfect size from Auravita for less than £10 plus delivery.

Finish on Friday at work and getting taken out for lunch on Thurs and Friday. One lunch for me, one for bump!

Anyway, wee quick post as off to bed.

pigleychez Bed usually about 9.30 at moment with wee bit of reading, so late for me already tonight.

Oh and thanks to the person who told me what hiccups were like. Can feel them now. Poor bump. I hate hiccups.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 20/04/2010 22:37

I may be having a scan next week to check position and possibly size of the baby, check she's still head down and behaving. They'll probably scan me when I go into labour too to check position again. Last time they examined me and wrongly pronounced his poor squished head to be buttocks!

Just bought a My Brest Friend breastfeeding pillow to try and give us a bit of a good start on bf as last time I found I couldn't bf unless I was in a particular spot on the sofa with about 15 pillows propping him up to the right height, so hopefully we'll at least last a few weeks with it!

The only thing we have left to buy is a baby bath/support seat, scary now, everything's kind of done! Hope baby doesn't take it as a hint to come out.

The twice daily "How are you...?" calls and chat messages have started already - Anyone else getting that yet? I give it a week before they turn into "Any signs yet?" and then the dreaded "Haven't you had it yet?" calls which make me want to punch people.

Hope you're all doing ok, lots of clicking coming from the bump tonight, what is she doing in there???

brightredballoon · 20/04/2010 23:27

James I've been getting some clicks from the bump tonight as well, its such a strange noise!

Pamelat how annoying the consultant had gone home though, would have been good to get his thoughts on it there and then. You sound calm and relaxed about it which is good, and how lovely to get a nice long look at your wee boy.

SK and anyone else that has bought an Ikea Cot/cot bed mattress, any idea if yours was a sprung one or not? I need to get a new one for our cot (DS is currently in it but will be evicted to his big boys bed when baby outgrows moses basket) but I am lost with the selection from Ikea, so many to choose from. Might just default back to the Pram Centre where our current one is from.

Re tens machines, I treid one during my first labour/birth and did find it a good distraction even though personally I didn't find it very effective form of pain relief. Definitely worth a try though I would say.

Another late night, I need to get better at going to bed at a reasonable time!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 21/04/2010 07:40

James - every time I ring my parents (who are looking after DD when/if I go into labour) the conversation starts normal and then they start going 'so, is this the big red button' - I'm not sure why they think I'd be chatting happily about the weather etc if it was.

Newmomma - congratulations

Pigley - hope your parents got home OK in the end and that your Mum has had a chance to chill out.

Pamelat - glad you enjoyed the scan. I know what you mean about worrying about a section - I still can't decide and one of the biggest things putting me off is I want to be able to get my attention back to DD once the baby's here.

ML - about your children and Disneyworld. Apparently people originally booked on each flight will have priority (according to my Mum so may be incorrect) so with luck they'll still be able to make it, provided the volcano doesn't put out again.

Hobnobfanatic · 21/04/2010 08:31

BRB - our IKea mattress is sprung. They did various types, I'm sure. It looks fine - not quite as springy and luxurious as the Mothercare one I had with first DD, but still looks comfy and was about a quarter of the price! ]

schipo · 21/04/2010 09:50

littleowls congratulations and hope birth wasn't too much of a surprise for either of you! Joel is a fine name - hope he gets home to you soon.

Met the baby born one week early to one of the girls in my NCT group yesterday. He was lovely and very sleepy.

Pamelat pleased your scan cheered you up. Good luck to you and anyone else considering CS with whatever you decide.

I did way too much walking around yesterday. By the early evening I was having cramps v low down. They don't seem to me to fit description of BH's except that having a hot shower and an early night seemed to have sorted them out again. Going to try to move less today but I have loads of work to do. Better get on...

littleowls · 21/04/2010 09:54

Thanks for your messages everyone

He seems to be stronger and more active everyday. He has taken to breast feeding like a pro .

I have been reading everyones' posts and have caught up a little bit.

TCH - at parents, they sound really excited!

Those doing exams - Good luck.

ML - sorry to hear about the disney holiday. I really hope it all gets sorted out.

It's so nice to hear about everyones bumps and movements etc. It feels strange now that I don't have any of that, just a slowly deflating bump. I kind of miss it but not as much as I thought I would.

I will try to catch up again later, will be at the hospital for the morning, come home for a couple of hours then back for his changes at teatime for a few hours before coming home. I really don't know where time goes!

Off to see him now for lots of cuddles. I can't wait!

AnAngelWithin · 21/04/2010 10:13

congrats littleowls! sounds like you've got the feeding dialled already!!

ml hope disney goes ahead for the LOs!

Not much to report here. Still busy decorating, though today I can barely keep my eyes open!! Babys movements are getting sharper now. Suppose theres less fluid and more baby now!! 33 days to go today according to my kids! lol

I ordered a lovely discounted loola for the boot, which all in all only cos £112 instead of £295. I was just going to use the car seat on the quinny chassis when we al go out together, but with the summer hols coming and the chances of us going out are higher, i don't really want the baby squashed in a car seat all day! I've had a look before and loved it, so I was pleased to get this one! Will only get lightly used though as it is purely for the boot, I've got my gorgeous silver cross for day to day walking!

SquirtsMum · 21/04/2010 10:37

Littleowls Congratulations, hope the little man gets to come home soon

Schipo very of your impending HB

And an extra at those doing exams, I have trouble remembering my address now!! Good luck to you all, though I'm sure you won't need it!

So much for trying to sleep, DP is back on earlies and out the house for 5.30am so there is no chance in me dropping off afterward (bed never stays warm if I'm on my own lol). Having some lovely BH around mid-afternoon and in the evening for the last few days now, not painful but I find myself pacing around the kitchen when they happen, it seems to ease them but DP gets the 'is this it look?' in his eye. Acid reflux has raised it's ugly head again and its worse than before But the late night trips to the toilet are now down to one or two... not sure I like the swap tbh!! After last weeks few days of very little movement and the worry that caused, Squirt has decided to test out his acrobatic skills contantly and I find myself wishing he'd stop - I'm never happy lol

I'm seriously thinking about hiring out DP - sunday morning and monday afternoon I found him dusting, hoovering, washing up and mopping the kitchen floor after he'd swept it too.... he decided after about a week of very sleepless nights for me that he'd do the cleaning this week, he was either being nice, has ordered something online that I'm not gonna be happy with and was buttering me up or he has my nesting instinct cos mine is no where in sight lol

Last MW app I was told Squirt wasn't engaged any more, something tells me that's no longer the case, the little sleep I get is interrupted by aching hips (which ever side I lay on) so hoping thats LO pressing on my insides. That app I was 36+2, next app is 38+5 - is this normal to have so long inbetween app in the last month?

I'm the last one standing for our Star Wars babies (May 4th.. May the Force) and something tells me, as this is Squirt no.1 for me, the little monkey will be firmly staying put for weeks yet - not sure my body or mind can take much more, getting very impatient to meet Squirt now and even DP is asking if I could 'hurry things up a bit' as he has 2 rather awful weeks at work ahead of him and wouldn't mind taking his paternity leave now... cheeky fecker

Looking forward to all the other birth announcements that are sure to be coming thick and fast soon xxx
