omg...someone tell me that with 6 weeks to go its too early to have a show??!?

lizzie9442 · 10/04/2010 19:48

angel - With my first son I had a show when I was 34 weeks pregnant and I gave birth to him 3 days later but I have heard that other people have gone weeks. Have you had a show then?

AnAngelWithin · 10/04/2010 19:56

EEK!!! I think so... it was only a tiny bit bloody, barely noticable, but was a fair amount of mucus. God you would think 5th time round I would know whats what but it's mad what you forget!! i went into labour with dd1 24 days early and she was born 22 days early.

pamelat · 10/04/2010 19:57

Hi all, I dont remember having a show with DD? Would you always know?

Cant wait to see midwife on Weds and see whether she thinks baby has gone head down? I am getting a lot of movement low down, but its more like pulsing than kicking? DH said maybe my own pulse being pressed upon?

Loving the weather but feels like long days. DD been up since 630 and only been in bed 40 mins or so, exhausted!!!

Re snoring, my DH has been in the spare room every night for over a week due to his snoring. I cant sleep otherwise!

pamelat · 10/04/2010 20:03

just googled the pulsing and apparently it could be the baby having hiccups?!

lizzie9442 · 10/04/2010 20:04

angel - I'm the same its my fourth and I still foeget things, every pregnancy is different though. My show was mainly mucous with bit of blood that seemed to increase by the next day. Maybe you should call the midwife as when I had this I was admitted to the hospital and I think it was the next day that the contractions started. Good luck x

lizzie9442 · 10/04/2010 20:05

pamelet - I get the pulsing all the time and I think it is definately the hiccups, its a really strange sensation x

AnAngelWithin · 10/04/2010 20:08

oh yikes. Think i will sit everything out tonight. I've got the midwife on monday anyway. Nobody is around to help with the kids til monday anyway either.

Yes the pulsing is probably hiccups. It is a very strange feeling!

schipo · 10/04/2010 20:09

Good evening all

I've had my day of washing all the white vests and sleepsuits, hung them in the sun, and then I even got the iron out so they're all pressed - as I understand their supposed to be for the first wear but no other . Coloured things tomorrow! I'm not sure if I've got enough of everything so I'm planning an audit after all the laundry. There were some great lists linked to in earlier threads iirc I'll have to dig them out.

Dorothea - I read your thread too and depressing it is. You're not asking for anything I wouldn't. Wishing you some more enlightened medical professionals and lots of luck when the time comes.

Angel - omg exactly - does this mean you're going to go first after all? I can't believe we're at this stage already.

AnAngelWithin · 10/04/2010 20:12

i hope not schipo!! I'm not 'that' ready yet!!! Babys movements have felt odd today as well, almost grating.

pigleychez · 10/04/2010 20:45

Swast- The growth scans are only if theres some concern or medical issues. Normally its the 20 week one then nowt else.

ML- Hope you manage to get some sleep soon and your not too bored in there. Not long now

Five- DH made a joke to his dad today about my snoring.
Dont overdo it with the trampoline. Although sounds like me and I dont think i could wait for it to be finished!

Sounds like some lovely secret stork gifts doing the rounds. Those with outfits should post a pic on the FB page of baby wearing said outfit

Who was it that was the Hungry caterpillar fan? Asda had a hungry caterpillar babygrow and bib set for £6. It made me think of this thread

Angel-I had a sweep at about 4 days overdue with DD and then had a show afterwards. It was gloopy and had streaks of blood mixed with it (sorry TMI).DD still had to be induced at 40+12 and was finally born at 40+14. Rest up and either see your MW on moday or call the hospital if anything happens before.. You may even be our first!

Baby Hiccups- With DD she got them loads and it getting the same again with this one. Averaging about 3/4 times a day with this bubba.

I think baby might be making its way down now too. After a few mintues of walking, im getting really sharp pressure pains that really hurt. MIL commented that i look like im in pain when im walking.- I am!

Had a lovely day in the sunshine today. Hoping for another nice day tomorrow so we can stain the decking. Oh the joys!

alle01 · 10/04/2010 21:26

hi all
i think my baby has hipcups too, had a bit of a leaking today, but stopped now, i don't think my water broke, scary, i am not due till 29 april

memorylapse · 10/04/2010 22:24

Im wondering if im going to be beaten to it in the giving birth stakes! Saying that I had a show on weds but nothing has happened. Gentle pulsing is more likely baby practising breathing they do this a lot in the later weeks. Hiccups feels like a strong rhythmic jerking sensation. Feeling borf and lonely now. Dh cant visit till tuesday now due to work and will be missing ds 1's 16th birthday on monday. Dm lives 20 mins away yet has been to see me just once.

alle01 · 10/04/2010 22:37

hi ml,
how are you doing them?, any idea when will you have your baby?, sorry, i can't remember how many weeks along you are,...

kateyjane · 10/04/2010 22:45

Hi everyone

Sounds like everyone has managed to enjoy some sunshine today I agree that it makes everything seem much nicer and somehow easier. Love it when the children can play out.

Thank you to everyone for your suggestions about convincing DH to get a new changing bag - am still working on him

Sorry to ask another question but I think I remember some of you saying that you had used reusable nappies with your DC's. I really want to give it a try this time. I was just wondering which brand you would recommend? I have got one of 'the pop in' nappies. Having read some threads the most popular seem to be Bumgenious, itty bitty or fuzzi bunz. To be honest I am quite overwhelmed with the variety and don't know what to do?? Any advice would be appreciated
Angel - Hope you're okay. I had a show with DD1 then went into labour about 24hrs later, but nothing with DD2 or DS1.

Finally got secret stork posted today

Had consultant app yesterday and bile acid levels (OC) keep going up and up, so don't know when they will induce me? Fundal height is consistently measuring 4 weeks ahead of where I am. So was 32+5, but measured 37 weeks Don't know how accurate this is though. Have another growth scan next week to see how lo is progressing. I will be quite glad to be induced at 36/37 weeks otherwise I think lo may be a 12lber!

Re washing - I also use biological rather than non-bio None of us have sensitive skin and I always feel it cleans better? (especially with my messy lot!) Plus I am addicted to the smell!

Welcome to the thread Swast

Dorethea - I also saw your other thread. Hope you get exactly what you want from your consultant. They should totally respect your wishes, as long as lo is alright why shouldn't you have immediate skin to skin? IMO this is the least they can do. Anything that makes the whole experience less clinical and more mother and baby focussed should be encouraged in the right circumstances. I think some of them forget how special the whole experience is for the individual just because they do it everyday.

Sassles - also love the name Will. We are set on Edward (Teddy) George for a boy, but have changed from Florence Elizabeth to Matilda (Tilly) Rose for a girl. Still keep doubting our decision though

ML - Hope the snoring lady gets sent home - what a nightmare, just when you need as much sleep as you can get. Hope you are okay. Thinking of you.

Littlowls - I also keep hoping that nesting will kick in soon. My house is a disaster! Keep thinking there is no point until the DC's go back to school on Monday, but am not sure they are responsible

Hope everyone has another lovely day of sunshine tomorrow

TomlinTowers · 10/04/2010 22:52

Hi all

Just popping on to see how everyone is getting on.

Angel - good luck! I didn't have a show with DS1 at all, and others I know have show and then nothing! Will be keeping fingers crossed for you!

ML - I hate hospital wards - I always end up next to the noisiest woman! Hope everything good for you, you're nearly there!

Had a lovely day today - had first barbeque for lunch and was yummy! Hope everyone else had a good day in the sun!

alle01 · 10/04/2010 22:55

kateyjane- i got a deal from the council, for £40 they give me all the nappies baby will need, size exchange included when needed, and get £20 when you finally return them, like a loan with deposit, you only get one choice: prefold, but is worth a try, made the choosing simple, and if i don't like them can always return them and iniciate the hard chore of choosing one from the retailers.
there's a washable nappy thread and the ladies are really helpful, i'll look it up and give you the name, i can't remember

alle01 · 10/04/2010 22:56

general chat for cloth nappy users part 19: get your nappies on the line, or something like that

kateyjane · 10/04/2010 23:40

Thank you alle01 - Will look at the thread. I was hoping that our council might do a deal, however they just recommend you use them without any incentives. They have only recently introduced recycling though, so I guess I was expecting too much Did you find pre-folds easy to get to grips with? They look very complicated to me

memorylapse · 10/04/2010 23:46

Allie. Im nearly 37 weeks.
Snoring lady has been discharged. Yay! I currently have a 5 bedded bay to myself . Not for long though im sure. We have realisf we have no one to look after the kids when im induced as dh doesnt want to risk going home as last time the induction kicked in he nearly missed dd being born however im now faced with the possibily of not having him there at all

alle01 · 10/04/2010 23:51

kateyjane- i don't know yet, the council lady will visit me in a couple of weeks and bring them and explain about it, i haven't got a clue, but talk to other mums, they said to try these ones as they are virtually free, and change only if necessary, it all looks very complicated to me, but surely will all make sense when you try, still 3 weeks to have a baby to experiment on

kateyjane · 11/04/2010 00:34

ML - Glad snoring lady has gone! Hope you get a good nights sleep.

Sorry alle - didn't realise you hadn't got them yet Good luck with them, let me know how you get on. They do definately seem a more economical option than some of the others. It is really good that you get a council lady to come and explain things - think I would definately need that.

sweetkitty · 11/04/2010 05:56

I think I have a dodgy tummy and cannot get back to sleep hence posting at this weird hour. I started thinking about the birth and getting myself all scared. Why? I don't know there's nothing I can do to prevent it he has got to come out and to anyone else I have "easy" births but I am a bit scared

Washed and aired all the moses basket yesterday and the car seat, I am still not sure about the car seat, the straps didn't come up as clean as I would have liked so I'm not happy with it. DP has called me mad and said I should get one of those covers and some new shoulder straps but I just don't like the seat but a new one plus base is £200 which he thinks is crazy when we have a perfectly good one. It's in the car anyway

pamelat - we are getting a sandpit for the summer as well, I have visions of the big ones playing nicely with it whilst baby naps in pram

pigley - DD3 picked "My will" as well very apt we thought she spent the afternoon wanting to do everything the other two were doing in the garden, she was trying to "go" a scooter, get on a swing and push a huge pram that she couldn't even see over the top of but it didn't stop her. She loves the trampoline as well and I think it's only a matter of time until she figures out the ladders eek.

Five - hope your not too snore after all your exertions you crazy woman! I snore differently in pregnancy too, DP always complains about it. In fact last night I asked why he intentionally got me pregnant again (as a joke) as I am the most miserable pregnant woman ever and I don't even like me just now nevermind anyone else, poor man I think he is ready for a rest he is doing everything, cannot remember the last time I changed a nappy even.

Angel - no advice re the show, can it happen weeks before? Is it a show or just a bit of gloopy discharge, I think I had that with one of them? Hope it's all OK anyways

ML - glad the snorer has gone try to get some rest, you must be up the wall by now, is your induction set in stone for next week then? Just think you will have your baby in your arms by next weekend and the world will seem a better place. It's like all our lives are on hold now until B Day isn't it?

kateyjane - do you have an induction date as well then? Bet you cannot wait. Re the nappies I had washables for DD1, I had tots bots, fuzzi bunz, MEOs, bumbles. I loved the Fuzzis but they leaked after about an hour unfortunately, tots bots were the best for us, DD1 was such a heavy wetter, she still wees more than any child I know. Have heard good things about Bumgenious though. I gave up when DD2 came along as I had no tumble drier and washing was tough for two. Afraid I have been using disposables ever since I think the general consensus is to buy one of a few and see which one suits you best.

Your names are lovely as well, we STILL haven't decided on a name, DP has settled on one I don't like it anymore.

Don't know if it is worth going back to bed for an hour or just staying up now

Hollyoaks · 11/04/2010 09:35

Morning all.

Enjoyed the sun yesterday with dd and dh in garden, hoping for more today if the clouds clear.

Pigley - I picked My Will too as its on our boy shortlist and said we could use it if it won. It fell so not sure what that means. I also saw those hungry caterpillar babygros and thought of this thread.

Angel - any update?

Sorry no time for more personals, but hope everyone is well.

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 11/04/2010 09:59

Morning all, what a lot to catch up on!

Sounds like everyone is having an enjoyable weekend in the sunshine.

ML - glad the noisy lady has been discharged, it must be a relief to have some peace and quiet. Hope you're feeling OK and not suffering too much from the boredom. At least they let you use your phone.

Kateyjane - love your name choices! I have been suggesting Mathilda (shortened to Mattie) for a girl, but DH not so keen for some reason.

Rachel - 9.5 hour shift sounds exhausting, definitely worth trying to cut down if you can.

On the topic of washing stuff, I was advised by a friend who works in the washing powder division of a large pharmaceutical company not to use conditioner on anything that needs to be absorbent (i.e. towels, tea-towels, muslins, bibs etc.). It's because conditioner works by putting a coating over all the fibres which keeps them separate from each other, making the fabric feel softer and more fluffy, but the coating makes things slightly waterproof, so they aren't so absorbent. She said it's silly that they always illustrate conditioner adverts with towels, because they're the worst thing to use conditioner on!

Having a relaxing weekend at my parents' house. DM is going to help me make a cot bumper today, continuing my new obsession with crafts sewing things!

Will try to catch up properly this evening when DH is watching hours of golf on tv!
