AnAngelWithin · 11/04/2010 10:15

morning all. Nothing really to report. I keep getting strong BH but nothing major, Just got like a stitch under my bump. My hips ache like mad though When I told DH about it, he started flapping like mad! Wished I hadn't now! He has (reluctantly) gone to work. No point him NOT really is there!? He's only 4 miles down the road if anything ever does happen! MW tomorrow anyway.

SK it was like mucous with a very slight tinge of blood in it...Hope you are feeling better now?

Kateyjane, totsbots bamboozles all the way here!! SOOOOOOO easy to use, wash, dry, and extra absorbant for heavy wetters!

Pigley its me who is the hungry caterpilar fan!! I have got a sleepsuit set and the grobag now

alle01 · 11/04/2010 11:15

morning all.
i never thought of conditioner in towels was a no-no, i'll try now,...
i'll report back on the prefold nappies, when i tried them, but someone told me that if you find they are not very absorbent or your baby is a heavy wetter, you can make and put fleece inserts inside, especially for the night and it will do the trick, and help with cleaning poo easier too.
i have a lot more pain in my pelvis now, it waked me up last night, i'll have to call mw and have it checked, but last time she said that baby is 4/5 in the way down, maybe now is 5/5, i don't think it can hurt a lot more,

Sassles · 11/04/2010 12:07

Hey Swastayana - Think most councils only do growth scans if they think fundal height is too large or too small or medical reasons. My council give everyone scans at 32 & 36/8 weeks as they are doing some pilot thing to prove baby growth estimation or something, but it is so unscientific it's hilarious.

Kateyjane - Love the names. I'm really fond of sort of victorian/older names too. I love Will, but My Will fell a second fence or something and DH said, "there's your sign", dammit!

Scan said it was boy and the three names we can agree on are Sam/Samuel (1st choice), Nathaniel/Nathan and Harvey. Kind of falling in love with the name Harvey, but my family all went "oooh No". We have no girls names picked out just in case. I like Alexandra, but think it may be vetoed!

36 weeks and still can't tell what the hell's going on in there when baby is moving. Can't tell any bits from other bits and no idea if having hiccups or just kicks. Very nice to feel all of it though.

Got such a fright last night tho. Can now see bits coming out quite far when baby moves. DH had hand on my bump and we were reading in bed. I sort of forgot his had was there and baby did big long movement out for ages, I glanced down and caught sight of DH's arm, but thought it was my bump sticking really far out. Embarrassingly, I even let out a yelp before I realised what it was and got that shiver feeling from my head to my toes. Felt very silly.

memorylapse · 11/04/2010 13:45

Discovered today that snoring lady who was discharged came back in and had her baby. Shf was only 34 weeks! And her baby weighed 6.5 pounds and didnt even need special care!
Im on the lookov for a birth partner now as dh will have to look after the dcs. Dh is devastated that he is going to miss the birth

Carikube · 11/04/2010 14:16

ML sorry that DH won't be able to attend the birth - he must be so gutted.

We use reusables for DD - I stupidly bought a whole kit of Bambino Mio without actually trying out different ones first. I've got quite used to the prefolds system though and haven't had too many problems (though for anyone looking at using this sort of system, I wouldn't use liners for as long as they're breastfed as the poo just runs off and then leaks everywhere). I've bought in a load of disposables for when LO arrives though as I don't know how organised I'll be on the washing front in the early days so both DC will spend a couple of weeks in disposables.

As for names, William is still our choice for a boy's name (we had chosen it when pg with DD) though DH now thinks that we should call the new one Arthur if it's a boy as he thinks that will be funny given that DD is Martha

alexw · 11/04/2010 16:40

Hello all. Hope everyone is managing to enjoy another sunny day. Just want to check something - have had pins and needles for almost 24hrs in one arm now. Can get things ok again if I stand up or walk around but as soon as sit or lie down in whatever position it starts up again do any of you have any bright ideas as to how to alleviate it as am slowly going mad and am soo tired as a result of not sleeping last night. TIA

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 11/04/2010 18:04

alexw, sounds like you may have carpal tunnel syndrome. I get it, so frustrating, I wake up with pins & needles and can't feel half my arm. It's to do with fluid retention and trapped nerves in your wrist. I permanently have 3 numb fingers in my right hand, and they feel really cold compared to the others.

ML, good to hear that snoring lady's baby is doing well, as long as they don't put her back next to you again.

I think you lot talking about teeth has jinxed me! My painful one cracked & a bit crumbled away today and is soooo sore now. Going to have to get an emergency appt in the next day or so. I feel like a bear with a sore head.

mustbemadno3 · 11/04/2010 22:05

sassles i like the name Harvey.

ML Cant believe you dh wont be there, is there nobody who can have your dc? You must be so bored in there.

Angel hope you ok? I had a show 3 days before I went into labour with ds2.

I enjoyed the health farm thanks to all those well wishers. Very relaxing just a shame I came home to find my dh had invited my sil and bil for sunday lunch. Which meant I had to cook, which I didnt feel like doing after such a relaxing weekend. I was half hoping I would come back to sunday lunch cooked for me! Oh well wishful thinking.

Hope everyone ok, sorry my posting is a bit sparadic, but internet is so crap here and my new iphone is not working properly. I swear I have an electrical fault as everything I touch that is remotley technical gos wrong!!!

kateyjane · 11/04/2010 22:17

Evening everyone - I finally have a clean house, hurray! Can't believe how much better it makes you feel. Silly really as it will be back to the same tomorrow

SK - Hope you managed to get a rest during the day, you must be shattered. I don't have a date yet for my induction. They want me to go as far as possible (depending on bile acid levels) but definately no further than 37 weeks, so will probably be general election week - we may be the same day! Like you I am relieved that I will be induced as it makes things much easier to organise for the other DCs. Thanks for your information about nappies, think I will buy a selection to try. I really like the look of tots bots though, glad to hear you had a positive experience.

MDM - Very impressed at your crafty skills. I would love to have made something for my DCs, unfortunately I have been doing the same cross stitch for the last 10 years

Angel - Thanks for the nappy advice, hope the BHs have calmed down and that you are okay.

Sassles - Love all your name choices. I have two friends with sons called Harvey and they are both really lovely boys.

Carikube - I almost bought the birth to potty Bambino Mio set, but the lady in the shop stopped me She said to try others as well before spending all that money. She also suggested (like you) to use disposables for the first couple of weeks, as not many reusables can deal with newborn poo! I love your name choice, almost chose that too - although LOL at Arthur and Martha. I really tried to persuade DH on Martha for DD2, it is a beautiful name.

ML - Hope you're okay.

Rachel - at 9.5 hour shifts, hope you can cut it down. I couldn't even contemplate work right now. I really admire all of you who are still working.

alex - Hope your pins and needles settle down.

Five - Hope you get your tooth sorted Codeine with paracetamol is good for the pain and they say chewing gently on a whole clove can help numb tooth pain, but haven't tried it myself.

Hope evryone has a good week - long may the sun continue

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 12/04/2010 07:35

ML - happy birthday for your DS. that your DH can't be at the birth, is there anyone else who can help you?

Angel - hope everything's OK

Alexw - sounds like carpal tunnel syndrome. Not sure what you can do to help it but maybe worth asking your midwife?

Mustbemad - glad you had a good weekend

Sassles - love your names, Harvey is very nice. Don't mention names to family, they'll always put you off!

MDM - useful to know about the fabric conditioner, thanks! I don't really use it very often, but I do use it on towels so will stop!

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend with the weather. We spent a lot of the time in the garden with DD running around naked and getting herself covered in sand. I gave her some coloured chalks to draw on the patio and she covered herself in those as well. DH cleared out the shed so we can have all our camping stuff to hand for the summer which felt v.productive.

Hollyoaks · 12/04/2010 08:18

Morning all, the sun is still shining here, for now.

ML - is there definitely no-one who could have your dc? Happy birthday for your ds, is he need not old enough to do babysitting duties though I bet he's busy with his GCSE's at the moment.

Angel - hope things have slowed down for now.

Sassles/Carikube - look like there was a few of us with My Will on over the weekend, seems like a popular choice. We had it picked for dd but gone of it since, though dh still wants it.

Five - can't believe your tooth is causing you problems again, hope you get it sorted. I was talking to sil last night and mentioned teeth and she had to have two fillings with both of her pregnancies. I mentioned it as my teeth are fine but my nails are flaking and some have calcium spots, I was wondering if its caused by the pg as well.

Potty training has gone out of the window until after we get back from centre parks in July. I don't think I will be able to get a good run at it before then and don't want to be in the middle of it on holiday. DD can do it and is showing all the signs but was becoming really stressed with using the potty and refusing to sit on it. It was becoming really stressful for both of us and she just kept saying 'nappies please.' After 5 days and only one success with wees, though lots of poos, I've thrown in the towel. Not sure if the baby's arrival has anything to do with it too?

Started to pack hospital bag, bought a new holdall on wheels from Argos which is much bigger than I thought for £15, reduced from £20. Getting excited now. Can't believe we have inductions and sections next week , still feels a while off as I'm only 33 weeks today but some of you at the beginning of the month must be classed as full term now. It doesn't feel like two minutes since we were announcing out bfp's. Does anyone feel a little sad about it all ending? I do, but think this may be our last.

AnAngelWithin · 12/04/2010 10:07

morning all. Nothing to report really. BHs slowed down, so thats good. I've got midwife at 2. Just hoping baby has turned otherwise my next visit will be painful!!!

So far this morning I have stripped and washed my bed linen, its on the line now, another load washed and on the clothes maid, done all the dishes, scrubbed pans left soaking from last night put some stuf to soak to clean in the oven, Washed all the kitchen worktops down, descaled the kettle and the steamer, cleaned and polished the kitchen table, and ordered some more nappies Going to have a bath and wash my hair in a bit, then i can put the shelves from the oven in the (clean!) bath with soda crystals, easier to clean later then.

Hollyoaks have fun bag packing!!

Heffa, sounds like you have had a productive weekend!

Katey yes it feel much better when the house is clean! I am trying not to get myself in too much of a state about it cos until the kids go back to school, it's not worth the hassle!!

mustbemad, glad you had a nice time.

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 12/04/2010 11:21

Hi Everyone, hope everyone's well. Sorry for the really quick and impersonal post - am at work and just had a bit of a panic when I suddenly remembered that my midwife is expecting me to turn up to my appointment on Wednesday morning having written my birth plan. Does anyone know how to go about writing one / have any good links to sample ones? I know hardly anyone gets the birth they plan for, but thought I should at least try to get all my preferences down on paper.
Thanks in advance!

pigleychez · 12/04/2010 11:31

Hope everyone had a good sunny weekend. We spent yesterday in the garden doing jobs. DH pressure washed the pat
h and patio and I stained the decking. Done all the spindles (100's of them) so only the floor to do now!

MDM- I had heard that about the towels too so dont use conditioner on them. Funny isnt it though how you would think that was exactly what you would use it for!

Angel- My plug was like a big blob of clear jelly with blood streaks in it ( sorry if TMI) Hope the MW goes ok today.

Sassles- If its hiccups there will be a rythmic pattern to them.

ML- Is there no other friends that could have the kids? Could you not Bribe your eldest too babysit for a while? Maybe with an extra birthday present.

Carikube- Loving Arthur and Martha

Five- hope your tooth is better soon.

Mustbemad- Glad you enjoyed the heath farm. I loved the relaxation at the health spa we went to too

Sassles- Ive deliberatly held off talking names with family. They can be sooo annoying. When my mum started asking i would say names like "Moonbeam" and "Sundance"... shes stopped asking now

Hollyoaks- With DD my nails were fab! Really strong and healthy and grew really long. This time round they are dry, brittle and break so easily. Guess my body never recovered from DD!

Well i think baby has dropped after yesterdays DIY! Bump looks lower and now when i walk i get very sharp pains downstairs and its very uncomfortable. Sitting down feel likes its head is poking out my bum and I need to slowly lower myself down.
Getting bangs on my hip bones now which im guessing is baby thumping with its hands.Baby is still as wriggly as ever but you see my whole bump change shape now which looks very odd.
Im 35 weeks tomorrow.. starting to hope this ones abit early as not sure if I can cope like this another 5 weeks. Ill end up Sofa and housebound!

cupcakefairy · 12/04/2010 12:05

Morning all, quick catch up from me.
Feeling v rough and blaming it on the iron tablets... feel nauseous and so tired and to top it all have now got the runs lovely. Been trying so hard to avoid the constipation everyone said came with iron tablets that maybe I ate too much dried fruit!! Finish work Thurs, can't wait.

MDM re names, I wouldn't worry about it looking like you named the baby after your an teacher! Lol.. we have a similar problem though; the boys' name we've settled on, we didn't know anybody with it before and one of the girls in our AN class is called it I'm worried she'll find us weird but we did decide it way before meeting her!
Also our top girls' name is in the top 10 of the country too and we've been back and forth over whether to use it or not... thing is we want to mainly call her by a nickname of this name that isn't so common so think we've decided to go for it.
Re sleepsuits, I wondered this too but I think they do wear the vest under the sleepsuits and then under all their clothes really for the first couple of years. I was told the rule is they should be in one more layer than you are...

I have another question though; if you're keeping them in sleepsuits to start with, are you supposed to change it to put them to bed at night it has been really troubling me! I'm so clueless!

Kateyjane you lucky thing; I tried to convince my dh about the name Teddy for the first 6 months of the pregnancy and it has been a firm no! He hates it but I really love it! Good choice

Hello to everyone, especially those getting close to the time! Very exciting

Carikube · 12/04/2010 12:23

Hello all...

Feeling knackered here too as dropped DD off at nursery this morning and have been running around trying to get things done. Was looking forward to a nice stroll around town to go shopping but after about 30 mins realised that wandering around with what felt like a melon between my legs meant that I wasn't too comfortable . Have also decided that as long as I get to a week on Friday (37 wks) so I can go to the MLU I will be happy but I really can't face the thought of this one being overdue.

Cupcake how often you change the sleepsuits is really dependent on how you feel - I think in the early days we did it at least once every 24 hours (but more often if there had been posseting etc) but then I got in to the habit of dressing DD in the morning (whether an outfit or another sleepsuit) and then again in the evening just so it felt like there was some difference between night and day iyswim...

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 12/04/2010 13:14

Cupcakefairy - I used to like changing DD between night and day, although she only ever really wore sleepsuits for a couple of months. It's up to you though, I just liked the routine of getting her dressed. I was also told the rule is one more layer than you so I try and stick to that. Normally DD has a babygro/vest on underneath whatever she's wearing.

MDM - my maternity notes had a birth plan thing in first time round (haven't looked this time) which I used as a guide. I didn't want to write anything too detailed so I just focused on the things that were really important to me (like skin to skin contact after the birth). The midwife went through it with me anyway.

Angel - you've been busy! Don't know how you manage all of that!

cupcakefairy · 12/04/2010 13:46

Thanks girls that's really helpful I think I will change baby for nighttime too- anything we can do to help them distinguish between night and day eh!

Yes I've heard detailed birth plans just get ignored so I was planning on just a few bullet points like -avoid epidural if poss -birthing pool if available - skin on skin contact etc. My mw hasn't asked for one yet though, seeing her tomorrow.

ForcesSweetheart · 12/04/2010 14:40

Sorry guys this is a ME post. Just back from final clinic appointment and C-Section has been brought forward to THIS THURSDAY MORNING. 3 sleeps til Molly is born! ML the race is on girlie lol, it's you or me for the first baby of the thread I think. Growth scan was fine, she's big for dates but following her line so not worryingly so. However there was a lot of fluid around her today which they said isn't ideal, and consultant felt very sorry for me hobbling on the crutches while trying to look after Lola and decided to bring it forward to 37+2 instead of 38+2. I'm really excited now. Only slight hitch is this now means there'll be a little over a week gap between DH's paternity leave ending and my mum arriving, thankfully nursery have said they don't have a problem having her full-time for that period (just gonna cost us a bit, but worth it I think).

MDM I was sent a sample birth plan by another mn'er which I cut down a lot and tailored to my own circumstances (elective cs). Happy to send it to you, just lemme know your email.

changed my date on list.

OOOOOOOOOOOH FORCES!!!! you and ML are in teh race for the first baby!!!!!

Cupcake, all 4 of mine got changed when they neeed it!! The same will go for this one!!

Just got back from antenatal, park and shops. Shattered now! BUT baby is no longer breech!!! BP was good, trace of protein. Bloods done. MW wasn't worried about my loss at the weekend or the pains, she said it was probably the baby turning.

sweetkitty · 12/04/2010 17:13

hi ladies isn't this weather lovely, have spent today knitting and looking at catalogues with my feet up had a little wander down town with DP and the DDs, DD3 in the new Vibe. Bought some new little knitted cardi's.

Huge thank you for the lovely little clothes my secret stork delivered today, DP thinks we are all officially mad though

Forces - wow that is SO exciting part of me is very jealous you get to have your baby and get rid of the SPD, will be thinking of you on Thursday.

Angel - no wonder you are having pains doing all that! Great news about the baby turning as well.

cupcake - I only change when they need it as well but try to change about once a day IYSWIM whether that's a new babygro in the morning or evening. For indoors he will probably have a shortsleeve vest then a babygro, for outside a cardigan over and a blanket. Mine always have vests unless it is really hot, DD3 today still has a popper vest under her t-shirt. Am intrigued about your names now as well.

Birth plans - mine will be quite short, G&A only, as I will probably be induced by breaking waters I want as little drugs as possible, left to it to labour, no foetal monitoring, no VEs unless necessary, minute baby is born straight on my chest and left, cord not cut until after it has stopped pulsing, no syntometrin, basically I want him delivered onto me and left alone, placenta delivered in my own time, preferably he will have his first feed whilst still attached. I have quite a thing about the baby not being given to me for a quick cuddle then whisked away to be cleaned/weighed/dressed. I am quite greedy and want them left with me.

pigley - you make me tired reading about your exploits.

ML - I have found in the past that other Mums are great if you are in a pickle. Is there anyway you could farm them out to friends for the day even a few hours so your DP can be there? I know how hard it is as when DD2 was due we had no one to care for DD1. I am sure no one would object to looking after a LO giving the circumstances. I don't know what ages your other DC are but maybe the two eldest together at home and the others with friends.

Right am starving off to cook

Forces and ML, very exciting news, the race is on!!! This is better than the Grand national.

Babies in this house usualy get changed once a day if not doing anything, but i do like to put something pretty on my girls if we're going out. I already have half a dozen little matching Monsoon outfits for DD2 (21m) and DD3 (due soon)

Seeing dentist as an emergency tomorrow, half the old root canal filling has now fallen out and the back part of my tooth is moving around and very painful, can hardly eat anything, then straight back home for midwife appt. Feeling very big & achey here now, had a little walk in a local park with DH, DS2 & DD2 today, had to go lie down afterwards. I think my body is putting up it's final protests at having to go through this for a 5th time.

DD1 & I are off to the big teaching hospital near us on Thursday. Her Orthapeadic Consultant is using her legs as a teaching aid for a case study. She has twisted limbs which give her a tremendous amount of pain, but intensive physio seems to be helping and we may avaoid 4 prospective operations if it continues to help. She is very excited about lots of young doctors examining her legs. DD1 is 15 should I be very worried.
Hope everyone is ok, just a waiting game for us all now.
