Morning all ,

Good luck to everyone having scans today and congrats to all those that have been scanned. Really sad to hear Louey's news though, I so sorry. I mc'd in December and it was awful, emotionally I was very low and needed lots of pampering.

Not much change here, still feeling very sick at 10 weeks and one day. I know it's a good thing but it's tough to live with. Have a nice little bump forming too, it's difficult to hide at work. Not having scan for two and a half weeks yet...wish it had been sooner.

Sorry for not mentioning everyone by name, the thread moves so fast! Really hope all well, SB

LadyThompson · 25/03/2010 08:20

Just popping in to say very very sorry to Louey

And to SilverSky - private scans cost about £125-£150. Are you near London? The best place is the Fetal Medicine Centre. I agree that 14 weeks is far too late - really sorry for you. I have only had private scans so if there is anything I can possibly help with at all, let me know.

I had my nuchal scan and bloods on Tuesday - was supposed to be 12 weeks on the dot but they say it looks more like 12 weeks 5 days. The combined risk was 1 in nearly 3000, and I am so relieved as when I had DD it was 1 in 96 and I had to have a CVS. Got some 3D pics as well but, erm, they aren't much to look at at this stage...

Good luck, AbFabT.

DillyDora · 25/03/2010 09:15

Hi LadyT really glad to know about the scan, what a relief after last time.

Sorry to hear all those who are having hassles getting scans - hope you can get some kind of resolution!

xx

Hermya321 · 25/03/2010 09:21

Silver Thats so bad!! I can't beleive the hospital have messed it up like that, have you rang them and complained yet? I'm sure you'll be an all round fab Mum. I mean at the end of the day, how are you supposed to know about something unless someone tells you.

Ivy I cracked and told my friends in all honesty, one of them wanted me to be a bridesmaid. I'm still not sure about that one. I did laugh at the thought of your Mum telling random strangers about your pregnancy.

Abfab Good luck today!!!

LT Thats fantastic!!! I'm so pleased for you.

Elsa123 · 25/03/2010 09:23

Yay- well done LadyT.

Well- I am doubly doubly pleased I booked a scan at the Fetal Med Clinic for next week as I am 11 weeks today and my midwife has just cancelled my first appointment with her, which was today. She told me 2 weeks ago she would send me paperwork through to fill out to get a scan booked as there was info I needed to provide which she didn't have like my exact weight. She never sent me the paperwork and told me yesterday on the phone that she'd sent it herself (I'm not sure I believe her because if she did then surely its missing lots of info). She said it would take 2 weeks to hear from the hospital, but 'couldn't remember' when she'd sent the paperwork, so couldn't be sure when my scan date would be. I'm on holiday next week, so if the appointment comes through for next week, I'm not going to see it anyway (will tell her this when she rings to reschedule). So, it looks like I will next see her on the week I turn 13 weeks. I've not said I've got an appointment at the FMC- will keep it to myself for now. At least by getting a provate appointment I am not climbing the walls with worry, otherwise I might just have punched someone by now... At least I am seeing the physio in a bit- can't wait for some miracle work on my shoulder!!!

SamanthaB123- sorry to hear you're still feeling sick. I know what you mean about the bump. I assumed being a first timer that the bump wouldn't be noticable until much later and I also have a pic of my mother 2 weeks before she had me (she's small too) and you can't tell she's pg. I obviously am not going to follow in her footsteps. Tbh, its freaking me out a little! I also have one small stretchmark on one boob. Great. x x

Nymphadora · 25/03/2010 10:00

There definately seems to be a distinct lack of care in early pregnancy. Are we all going to get told at 14 weeks that we should have done X,Y and Z and why didn't we know?

NinthWave · 25/03/2010 10:30

Good luck today AbFabT!

Does anyone here know anything about low GI diets? I had glucose in my urine sample at my booking visit, and I know I'll have to go for a glucose tolerance test in the next couple of months, but I am quite scared of developing gestational diabetes - my DS was 9lb 6oz without GD, and I really really don't want a bigger one than that (his shoulders got stuck, all v dramatic).

I have thought about going on a low GI diet but no idea if this will have any effect or not...anyone got any thoughts?

Nymph i completely agree, my booking in app is monday, ill be 12+5 weeks and 15 weeks for 12 week scan but that is why i went private, def going to moan at midwife about it though.
Good luck to everyone with there scans and congrats to those who have had them.
Thinking of Louey.

AbFabT · 25/03/2010 10:54

LadyT, glad all is well with you. Phew!

Thank you for the good luck wishes Hermya and NinthWave. 9th, I'm sorry I don't know about GI diets, but the MW team must be able to advise you?

Elsa, glad you got your private scans booked. It's just a shame it's necessary.

Ok, so me! Well, baby is doing fab! Phew! I am so relieved. The sonographer couldn't see anything via my tummy though apart from the heartbeat, so I got sent out to go and stock up on as much water as I could. Felt thoroughly sick of water, but needs must. When I was fit to burst about half an hour later, she called me back in, but baby was doing a headstand, and she couldn't do any measurements or get a picture. So, it was the dreaded dildo-cam for me! Had to go and empty my bladder first. Actually, it wasn't that bad, and we got some really good images, baby moving about fine, did some leg kicks and waved. The sonographer said they were exceptionally good images! Woo hoo! My stats (nuchal etc) are good too.

I am now home, and keep having to go toilet.

Best of luck to the rest of you with scans yet to come.

tiredfeet · 25/03/2010 11:02

hello ladies, just to say had scan yesterday and there really is a lovely wriggly baby inside me , i really didn't believe it until I saw it on the screen! I was feeling good afterwards so we went out for food and saw a few friends, it was so lovely to do something a bit normal after so long being ill.

glad to see there's good news from seashells and abfab too

tiredfeet · 25/03/2010 11:03

oh and congratulations ladyT too - sorry, wasn't ignoring you, just feeling very sick today wasn't reading the thread very thoroughly

good luck to those with scans still to come

SilverSky · 25/03/2010 11:43

Helllooooooooo!

MW visit has happened.

According to her dially thingymebob I am not 11weeks but 10weeks. Arse!!!!!

I didnt talk to her about a private scan but I think I am seriously considering it.

Where is the FMC? My local NHS hospital has a private centre attached and perhaps I can get in there? The MW told me there was not point having a scan now as you can't hear a heartbeat and that is often more distressing not hearing a heartbeat so its better to wait.

Husband says we may as well get the nuchal scan done if they do it anyway but I am not sure I want to know. We'll have the baby anyway. But as I am no spring chicken its all weighing on my mind.

According to MW I am a low risk normal first timer with no concerns. I think I am going to go to the hospital further away as it has the CU attached and if I need/want drugs/cs I can have it. MW scared me a bit by saying local hospital is MW led with one MW on shift and when busy community MW's are called in to help out, but no epidurals and stuff, and sometimes its nice to know the options are there, otherwise I could imagine I may panic about the pain and that there isn't any relief coming!!!

What would you do?

Nymphadora · 25/03/2010 11:54

You can see the heartbeat so why would you be worried at not hearing it?

ILoveGregoryHouse · 25/03/2010 12:15

Hi silver, it depends on the machine. I heard a heatbeat at 8+2. If you do go private then they may have very fancy sonograms (is that the right word?)and you would be able to hear it. But that's a bit irrelevant as, as Nymp says, you can see it anyway.

FMC is in Harley Street.

Hermya321 · 25/03/2010 12:48

abfab thats such great news. You must be so relieved.

Elsa I'm so sorry that you're midwife seems to be a bit of a ditz, I'm glad that you're getting sorted though.

SilverSky · 25/03/2010 13:13

Update: Am going to FMC on 8th April. They said that the NHS scan on 15th April is not the optimum time for a 11-13+6 scan.

I could go today for a viability scan but the lady recommended that as I am ten weeks it would be better to wait til 8th April.

Mind at rest. ALready feel loads better.

Nymph I think the MW was, in her way, trying to put my fears about being in this inbetween stage and not knowing in perspective. Though, I just thought, what a load of old toss.

Congrats to those who have had scans and for those who are being messed around I feel your pain.

shieldbug · 25/03/2010 13:16

Glad to hear so much good news from scans. I've finally got one booked (for 7th April) so not too long to wait, although I'm sure it will feel like ages!

Silver I don't understand why your midwife said there was no point in a scan now. As others have said, you can see the heartbeat (even at 6 weeks they found one in my sprog) so why is she worrying about actually hearing it? However, if they have recalculated your dates, is your scan now in a better time frame?
When it comes to choosing your hospital, I reckon your peace of mind is very important, so go wherever puts you most at ease. Good luck with all the choices you are having to make right now.

shieldbug · 25/03/2010 13:17

Sorry silver cross-posted there. I'm delighted to hear you have already got something sorted. Good luck for the 8th.

SilverSky · 25/03/2010 13:22

Shieldbug just need to get the afternoon off work now! Think it may be tricky as already one person off..... bummer. Will try and sort ASAP.

Elsa123 · 25/03/2010 13:27

sometimes its necessary to sort it out yourself isn't it silver?! Its still not right, but hey ho. Ref hospitals- I wouldn't judge until you've actually seen the facilities.

The mw was talking bollocks silver. The sonogram is all about what you see- and one of those sights is a heartbeat.

Congratulations AbFabT and tiredfeet- I'm soo jealous!

KSal · 25/03/2010 13:59

ooh sheildbug, we#re got our scans on the same day

KSal · 25/03/2010 14:02

oh look... that'll teach me to read through before i post

DillyDora · 25/03/2010 14:53

Hi All,

Msg for Nymphadora I think, unless it was Hermya who got told they couldn't have their prescription/dentist charges exemption certificate till 12 weeks - the mw I met today said that's a load of ol' rubbish (I had been told the same thing) and gave me the form immediately. She said she doesn't know why the drs say it but it simply isn't true, I don't know if it would differ from region to region ....
Worth pursuing?

xx

shieldbug · 25/03/2010 15:20

Regarding prescriptions, I got one today, but didn't have my certificate yet. When I told the pharmacist, she just ticked the box on the back, ticked the one that said evidence not seen and didn't charge me anything. (I'm in NI so maybe things work differently over here).

shieldbug · 25/03/2010 15:22

KSal We'll count down the days together! I'm excited and nervous already!
