I'm still here, 40+5 by their dates but skeptical about date myself and want to hold out for a natural (home) birth. I had an appointment today and have agreed to monitoring (scan) and stretch and sweep 7th May, followed by induction booked for 10th May (40+16) if necessary. No sign of contractions despite losing show back at easter. Baby in good position but head not engaged yet. I went to 42 weeks last time and was (kind of) induced eventually. What I mean is that I had 2 doses of prostin pessary and then they gave up for the night and my waters broke 6 hours after the 2nd pessary so I think that might have been a natural start to labour in reality. I did not have a drip etc.

Well, been to see midwife at midwife unit who checked me over. Gave me an internal to check status of cervix which was still high and unfavourable although starting to thin slightly. She gave it a good old poke to try to get things moving. Feeling uncomfortable & crampy down below now so hoping it is start of something and not just after effects of her rummage. She booked me in with hospital for induction on Sat which I am not happy about as is too soon. My usual midwife has since called me, so I have asked her to try to rearrange induction for tues/wed next week Instead when I will be 14 days over. I just want the best possible chance to go into labour naturally so that I can go to the midwife unit.

Reflexology booked for tomorrow morning, so hopefully that will help if nothing develops from this discomfort over night.

Poor DS had to come to midwife with me and sit behind the curtain while I had the internal. He was good as gold, bless his heart! Midwife was terrified he was going to peep around curtain to see what was going on!!

Ok hormonal pregnant woman alert i have just spent the last hr sobbing my heart out- i am sooooooooo fed up, how silly is that. Right must pull myself together have to pick DD up from school

Boodstress · 29/04/2010 14:53

I'm not really small or big sparklycherrymummy. Just average. I think my friend is just a bit clueless about these things. Combo of reflexology and DH's involvement should hopefully move things on. We need another baby...come on girls...

sparklycheerymummy · 29/04/2010 14:55

oooohhhh am excited for you. my dp did have to get very involved with arms and leg holding etc but he wouldnt have been any other way!!!!

i had had so much gas and air and they cheered me so much i though i had already had him when his head was only just crowning!!!!! LOL

gas and air fab stuff....every house should have some!!!!!

Zeeky · 29/04/2010 14:56

Rlp - good to hear of someone else sticking to their guns about not being induced too soon. DS was 9 days late so never got as far as all this faffing over sweeps & inductions last time.

Ray have a good old cry and get it out. I find the pressure & hormones build up and then after a crying outburst or major over reaction to something I feel much better. We're entitled to be a bit over emotional in our current states

Boodstress · 29/04/2010 15:03

I missed the last few posts when I posted my earlier reply so nice to hear update from all the overduers. LOving also hearing about all the big baby/straight forward birth scenarios.
Rip great that you are getting to give your body that chance to go by itself. Bet you do without any intervention this time. Zeeky, at least things are progressing in some way (thinning), the combo of the reflexology and the 'rummaging' should do something. ray I cried off and on most of yesterday evening, particularly when I thought I was going to be subjected to Barcelona v Inter but thats another story. It is such an endurance test going day to day waiting but trying to carry on as normal. What will be will be I guess.

ilovesprouts · 29/04/2010 16:26

my dd is having a stretch and sweep on fri, wonder if it will work

stinkypinky · 29/04/2010 17:17

Day 8 post section, and I am really fancying a bit of hokey cokey near my cervix Trying to resist urge as may be a tad early. Felt blooming rotten all pregnancy so feeling like a teenager now.

Won't be long now ladies, and it will all be so worth it!!!

Zeeky · 29/04/2010 17:48

Wow stinkypinky, you're a braver woman than me! It took me about 3 months to get back in the saddle last time!

Boodstress · 29/04/2010 18:13

One of the fringe benefits of a C-section - everything is intact..I did panic about the scar a bit if I remember but mostly I was too exhausted to bother anyway. Trying to work out if I can bark orders during a home made induction (sex at 40 plus weeks) - with SPD and a massive bump I will need instructions followed very carefully (I shall say this only vonce etc). Poor DH isn't keen I don't think but is trying to look happy with the prospect.

Mistymoo · 29/04/2010 18:21

Hi All. Just wanted to let you know my ds was born on Tuesday 27 April at 2.11pm. He weighed in at 9lbs 9.5oz. It was a straight forward and quick delivery.

Was going to come home yesterday but his temp was up just before I was discharged so had to stay in for 24 hour obs. He was fine, we think it was just too hot in the ward.

Boodstress · 29/04/2010 18:37

Hooray Mistymoo and a nice big baby too, well done, congratulations. Hope he settles in well.

Zeeky · 29/04/2010 19:07

Big congrats mistymoo!!!! I knew you must have popped as you had gone very quiet! Big baby!

Midwife rang an hour ago to say only induction appt available around my 14 overdue limit is Sat. Really don't want it but what can i do? Got to get this baby to come before then!!!!

AdelaideJo · 29/04/2010 19:35

Hi, thought I would post my birth tale on here (wasn't sure if here or post-natal thread?).
Overdue ladies, keep the faith!

We had an "incident" in the flat next door on Sunday night between the couple that live there, and I think the high drama put me into labour . When it was all over and done with, about 2am, I started getting really regular proper period pains which radiated right around my back. Took some paracetamol which did nothing; that really bothered me as with my DS I'd laboured at home for 2 days with paracetamol going right to 4cm!
At 5am I rang the hospital and went in GUTTED to discover that not only was I not dilated but cervix still really high up and thick . What I DID find out though was that, despite all my efforts, she was still back to back. Between about 7am and 3pm, despite standing up and leaning over the bed pretty much the entire time, I had only dilated 2cm and was in agony. Was really discouraged by EXTREMELY YOUNG midwife from using the gas and air (!) (for a back labour!?!) and advised to "use massage" .
Anyway, by about 5pm I insisted I get some Pethidine as DD still was back to back. I relaxed really well with it and did the last 6 cm in about 2 hours, because suddenly my waters broke and DD arrived 11 minutes later! Lost a bit of blood and was a bit shocked afterwards because she sort of shot out, but all in all everything was good (apart from the back labour of course).

AdelaideJo · 29/04/2010 19:40

Congratulations Misty - a nice quick delivery for you, lovely .

Stinky I can't believe what i've just read about your friski-ness you must be off your rocker lady!

Boodstress · 30/04/2010 09:37

Thanks for posting the birth story Adelaide, they keep us overduers going - light at the end of the tunnel etc. Sounds like you did great and so pleased you found something that relaxed you that well - Pethidine made me feel totally out of it last time but lots of people have said you're experience can be totally different second time round. I would love to know why gas and air was discouraged for back to back - wouldn't both together have worked well. Anyway, well done.

flybynight · 30/04/2010 09:38

Congrats Mistymoo That's lovely news, even if I am green with envy.

Had a sweep yesterday - frankly, my fanny feels like it has been mugged. It resulted in hours of really painful erratic contractions that tailed off at about 9pm. Still, they are happy enough to wait until +14 to induce, so I have a reasonable chance of getting a home birth yet. ANd I had a show as well! Never had one of those before.

Stinkypinky your hormones must really be playing tricks on you!

AdelaideJo Sounds like you were very stoic through an uncomfortable labour. I don't envy you the back labour.

Boodstress · 30/04/2010 09:44

Zeeky - any movements? crossing fingers something happens in the next 12 hours

Boodstress · 30/04/2010 09:49

Flybynight painful contractions AND a show..I'M green with envy. I really will be the last one to turn out the lights in here. Feeling less and less pregnant by the day..reflexologist midwife cancelled last night as she was on call (someone else went into labour..[smack on the face]. I am having it tonight instead, hopefully that together with the thought of DH being here for 3 days helping with DS will be enough to hurtle me into labour...

ilovesprouts · 30/04/2010 15:00

well my dd had her sweep today so we will see ,hes still got 9 hours to show tho :0,shes not well tho has got ear, chest throat, infection poss asthma ? has got a spray thingy iwkwim, mw coming back tuesfor 2nd sweep

thedollshouse · 30/04/2010 16:27

Congratulations Mistymoo

Mistymoo · 30/04/2010 16:31

Thanks for all your lovely messages. For all of those going to have a sweep, I had one on Monday and I'm sure that's what aided me on the way.

I was very sore for the rest of the day. It felt very heavy and sore down below and despite MW suggesting I take a long walk I could only manage to pick up dd from school. I was also very emotional but hey ho I have my wee man now and I'm still emotional

Will have to go and make my presence known and the port-natal thread now

ilovesprouts · 30/04/2010 16:57

is they a due may2010 group ??

Boodstress · 30/04/2010 17:30

I REFUSE to move off the due April (only to go onto the postnatel thread)..hopefully I won't be talking to myself by next week.
