OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Aussieng · 15/02/2010 15:49

At the risk of being told off for being generalist and prejudiced, I think that there is a general problem with the manners of many men in the age group you mentioned PamplemOusse especially professional men of that age group (probably would include 20's too). I'm not sure if it is some confusion over the interaction of good manners with respecting women's equality etc or what but there is definitely an issue there. I think I fell in love with my DH when he took me out for dinner early in our relationship and stood until such time as I was seated. I came over very Scarlett O'Hara but it was lovely.

Chulita · 15/02/2010 16:15

Ah, good tip, I was just going to squish into my usual cozzie but may as well let them all know the only reason I'm a bit is cos the pool's on an army base...have visions of loads of muscle-clad soldiers in there and then me!

ronx · 15/02/2010 17:28

Hi! My 12-week scan is tomorrow - at long last. Although I know there's nothing I can do about the outcome, I'm terrified about what they will find in there.

neenz I'm a news sub on the Telegraph.

neenz · 15/02/2010 17:46

Ronx, it will be fine - very very small chance of them finding anything wrong if you have had no cramps/bleeding. You win most prestigious newpaper - by a mile . I was going to move onto Express subs for the hours (2-8) but my current boss on mags says I can do those hours without moving. Nice bloke . I really like the Telegraph, despite its political affiliations

My DD (21mths) has taken to crying and shouting 'igglepiggle igglepiggle' non-stop until I put ITNG on - we're on our fourth episode of the day. This only started when I put it on sky plus - she knows now she can have it on any time!

bigmuther65 · 15/02/2010 17:59

Chulita loving the vision of being in a pool with loads of muscle clad soldiers sound more like one of my xrated dreams.

Chulita · 15/02/2010 18:35

'cept most soldiers aren't actually muscle clad but it never hurts to dream

aendr · 16/02/2010 07:38

I was on the London Underground on Saturday. I got on sardines level completely packed central line train, going only one stop (it was chucking it down with rain, I knew I had a walk at the other end and needed to conserve my energy for a late night too, else I'd have walked the one stop too.) I had one of those "Bump on Board" badges on my handbag strap. Nice young lady immediately offered me her seat. Took me a minute to figure out why. I declined (one stop and it would have been more hassle to swap than stand up, and I could hold on where I was) but it was such a pleasure to just* be offered.* To get a "Bump on Board" badge, just ask at any London Underground ticket office. They're free.

loobyt · 16/02/2010 07:49

mrsZaC · 16/02/2010 09:26

morning!

Congrats on your scan lovesaruby and good luck to ronx & loobyt for today

Was well depressed this morning, went to put my 'fat jeans' on and they were far too umcomfortable.. grrrr! I think I'm just getting annoyed as my friend who is now 14 wks and 2 weeks more pregnant than me exclaimed, I'm still in my size 8 jeans! when i told her I had to buy maternity tights for work grrrrr she does have a bit of a belly but it hangs over the top, I'm all hips and belly and thighs at the moment. I'm hoping on a positive note that means I have lovely big child-bearing hips that baby will just slide out of..

Anyone else feeling HUGE or is it just me? I suppose everyone is different but I was soo determined not to look like a ten tonne tessie when i was preggers, but I've been sooo tired I can't do anything much more than sit on the couch and eat, apart from during the day but I'm stuck on my butt in an office so not getting much excersise at all .

sorry.. rant over with, just feeling flabby and rubbish today.

bouncingblueberries · 16/02/2010 09:31

Me too MrsZac - don't worry, you are not alone! I promised I would walk to and from the office every day this week but so far I've only managed to walk from office to train station. The bus is just too tempting on a rainy, grey February morning!

My mat jeans are still doing my head in, they just fall down all the time - even if I wear my old jeans with a belly belt, they still fall down! Grrrr.

vix206 · 16/02/2010 09:37

isheisnthe I wasn't asked about downs being in the family, but in the book I was given it had a page that said 'myths about downs syndrome' and one of them was that it runs in families. I also meant to say that 1 in 600 sounds good to me, and not to worry. I know its easy for me to say. My scan isn't until Thursday and nobody has even told me if I'll be having the Nuchal stuff, as far as I am aware it is just for dating. It is my '12 week' scan even though I will actually be 14 I will definitely be having the blood test at 16 weeks though with my midwife.

I went out looking for maternity clothes yesterday, what a nightmare that was! So frustrating, and I got a sudden blood sugar drop so had to inhale a Bounty Bar outside Boots! Ended up with one dress from DP that isn't maternity but is an empire line dress with a full skirt and it is lovely. Should last me at least a few months. Then last night went onto ASOS and bought 3 dresses on there from their maternity collection - there is some lovely stuff on there and not too dear. I bought:

www.asos.com//Totem/Totem-Pineapple-Strappy-Empire-Babydoll-Dress/Prod/pgeproduct. aspx?iid=571959

www.asos.com//Asos/Asos-Maternity-Exclusive-Jersey-Wrap-Bust-Dress/Prod/pg eproduct.aspx?iid=453891

www.asos.com//Heidi-Klum/Asos/Asos-Maternity-Exclusive-Wrap-Front -Maxi-Dress/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=773223

I have a load of long cardigans that will do me for the spring while its not warm enough to wear them without something warmer over me! I'm just getting fed up of wearing jeans with an elastic band through the button hole and big baggy jumpers. I missed wearing dresses so I'm so glad to have found a few nice ones. I am really starting to look pregnant now, although not sure how much of it is actually food/bloat.

Loobyt and Ronx good luck with your scans, I am sooo excited about mine on Thursday! Only 2 more sleeps

KayloHalo · 16/02/2010 09:42

Hello!

Good luck for looby and ronx* for scans today!!
And congrats on successful scan Ruby MrsZaC I'm a hips/belly and thighs girly too - have been in maternity clothes a few weeks now. So don't worry - you're not alone!!!

aendr how nice to be offered a seat - I was never offered when pregnant with dd and ds, and this time around I'm driving and I'm not planning on giving up my seat unles I can't fit behind the wheel in 3rd trimester.

Planning on having a lovely easy peasy day at the pffice today - lets see how long that attitude lasts

pamplem0usse · 16/02/2010 10:16

Finally got my booking appointment today, and.... I've got a really bad cold. Boo!
Also a bit freaked because I know I'm overweight (but not how overweight, I don't weigh myself) am a size 14 but 5'11 so I guess I carry alot more weight than I should. Has anyone had any really disparaging remarks about their weight from their midwife????
Argh!

mrsZaC we're due date twins! I'll be 26 when the little one pops out.... you too, or do you have your birthday before then?

Doodleydoo · 16/02/2010 10:23

Even my fat work trousers are too small now - 14 weeks today so am feeling a little depressed about it, especially as can't find any mat clothes from last time. I keep looking in the mirror and seeing fat, just fat, gross. One hopes there is a baby in there and not just a large slice of chocolate cake, or peanut butter sandwich .

ishe I promise you that I too was approx 1 in 600 on nuchal last time round when I was 32, I was told it really wasn't a problem as I was quite shocked (my sil is 3 years younger as was 1 in 1250 or somthing similar!). To be fair my cousin does have a downs daughter and she had her at 26 and was so low risk that they didn't even bother to check her. I think there is always that risk there that you might be that 1 in whatever, but you have to weigh those odds up against whatever the risk is for an amino etc. I genuinely am interested to know what my risk is now that I am older this time round. You are in a different position to many others in that you have a downs child in the family and therefore you have more knowledge than many of both the pros and the cons etc (iyswim - am sure there is a better way or putting it!).

mrsZaC · 16/02/2010 10:46

owh girls, glad to hear I'm not on my own with this one, it's not very easy looking at your body changing, especially since I got married last May and worked super hard for my size 10 figure... all going to pot now but for a great cause, that's what I have to keep telling myself hopefully I'll start feeling better energy-wise soon and hit the gym for some light work, that will make me feel better

vix love the maxi dress, I think i would look like a tent in that though.

BTW ladies, mamas and papas have 30% off their clothing @ mo... I think I feel a shopping trip coming on! I'm in love with one of their parkas, and it is now 30% off - woo hooo!

pamplem0usse I will indeed be 26 when baby is due, I'm a november baby. Not 100% on my due date but then no-one really is I suppose, my 9 wk scan put me at 1st Sept, but I reakon it's more like 29th of August by how my dates go, but we'll see at my 13 wk scan

only 6 months left ladies (less for some of you!) woopeeee!!!

girlsyearapart · 16/02/2010 10:46

chulita the thought of a pool full of soldiers would be an incentive for me to go to swimming!

had a lovely day yesterday and did another body balance class. Am determined to exercise at least once a week.

CarterM · 16/02/2010 10:50

Hello all, this is my first post- decided to join today despite the pasting this site got by one columnist in The Times over the weekend (think at 36 I'm capable of making my own mind up). My due date is 04/08 and it's my first, just starting to show and I'm kissing goodbye to my waistline, such as it was. Pamplemousse- I had very disparaging remarks from my midwife about my weight 'Oh dear, have we been eating for two?' and I'd only gained 5 pounds and was still in my normal clothes!
So, if I could add myself to the list:
04 Aug- CarterM #1, Solihull, 36
Thanks!x

Doodleydoo · 16/02/2010 11:12

I think if you look on the previous thread - if you can find it - I got a huge bollocking from my midwife for being overweight - ok I am 5ft7 and a 14/16 so yes I am overweight but she told me I was obese and not to eat for 2 and do more exercise - uhm crippling ms anyone and huge tiredness?

Anyway I have been weight monitoring like mad as I did get pre-ecl last time round and don't want to have complications if I can help it this time too. I am actually quite fit even though a heifer - have been seeing a personal trainer at the gym for 18 months and although I didn't lose weight I had toned up (not any more though!) at 14 weeks I weigh 4lbs more than I did before I was pregnant (beginning of Nov 09)which is exactly the amount I should have put on for this pregnancy so far......... I still have a personal trainer now and she said to me that on any daily basis your weight can fluctuate by up to 5lbs! so although I lost 1.2lbs at the start of my pregnancy (we were moving house!!!!!!) that could have been part of the 5lb fluctuation that is possible. Made me feel better I can tell you!

Re normal clothes, yes I can still squeeze into them, but boy is it like wearing your thin jeans on a fatter day, a little uncomfy for me!

Am off to peruse the M and P website - is the 30% off online only? My boss has left the office and I am on my own playing on MN and doing a bit of shopping.......

Doodleydoo · 16/02/2010 11:17

Sorry, my post sounds all me me me, but got so angry to be told I was a bit fat heifer by the midwife, when she wasn't exactly small - lecturing me does not help the cause my friend, oh no!

neenz · 16/02/2010 11:21

Welcome CarterM, we are not as bad as the Times makes out really . There are some pretty feisty sections of MN and some posters really are very rude but they have anger management issues.

MrsZac it's so frustrating when the weight piles on isn't it. It would be lovely to just get a neat bump and not put weight on anywhere else but it doesn't really happen. With the twins I was determined to go for a 30mins walk at lunch every day but it rarely happned cos I was so tired. I put on 3.5st.

However, I BF the twins for 13m and I was 8st 7lb then - thinner than I was at my wedding! So it will come off afterwards, one way or another

I was getting really depressed about my weight this time thinking I must have put a stone on already but when I weighed myself it was only half a stone. The midwife did the BMI calculation and mine was 21 so fine but I did wonder what they say if it is on the higher side - what are you going to do? You can hardly diet can you?

neenz · 16/02/2010 11:25

x-posted Doodley - at your MW. They don't seem to take into account the fact that BMI is not always a great indicator of healthy weight. If you are eating well and were exercising before you were PG then you are probably just a normal weight for you. Rugby players often have a BMI of over 30 - obese

CarterM · 16/02/2010 11:55

Good point neenz, my oh is allegedly obese according to his BMI but there's not a spare ounce on him, although I tell him he must have stored it all around his arteries when I'm feeling fat

bouncingblueberries · 16/02/2010 12:06

By my BMI I'm technically overweight (size 14, 5ft 9 in) and the midwife did raise an eyebrow at me at my booking in appointment, but thankfully no lecture. She just shrugged and muttered something about 'in an ideal world' . She couldn't have been that bothered though as she then spent ages trying to convince me to have a homebirth.

I'm really trying to eat healthy and exercise (walk) as much as possible, but I've put on a stone already

I'm eating soooooo much better than I did during my last pregnancy (I really did eat for two then!), but the weight is still piling on. I know I need to cut out the biscuits and cake, but my god it's tough! Some days having brioche for breakfast is the only thing that gets me through the morning! Christmas didn't help either
