I'm a fatty and I know it, my mw knows me and didn't say a thing to me about my weight. Only that I might not be able to give birth in the Birth Centre I had planned as they don't like to deliver mums with a BMI of 35 or over. Mines over

In my defense I was fine before I got depressed and then it just piled on. Of course I want to be thinner and I've been trying to lose weight - and I've got quite a bit of it off too!! Just gonna watch what I eat whilst pregnant and am planning on bf baby as well as continuing to watch what I eat after delivery, we'll just have to wait and see.

Welcome CarterM

at all those rubbish midwives out there making all you ladies feel rubbish! My bmi has always been a little on the high side, but my fat % is low, so I always go by that, bmi is such an inacurate form of measurement, the wii told my 22 yr old brother who is a 28" waist that he was obese!!

not sure wether the sale is just online or not doodley I'm hoping not as I would like to try a few things on in store. But I'll go try things on anyway before buying me thinks.

Just put our flat on the market! yikes, hope we don't end up homeless avec child!

mrsZaC · 16/02/2010 12:12

tee hee 3 posts within 30 seconds of eachother.. lunchtime? don't forget the pancakes today girls mmmmmmmmmm think it's a crepe for me today!

forgot to say neez I think your forgiven for any amount of weight gain with twins, since your eating for 3! Good to hear that it came off afterwards, my friend lost more than her baby-weight too afterwards, although she is an expert dieter . Can't wait to get back to my gym classes, I miss them

mrsZaC · 16/02/2010 12:13

dam forgot to say welcome to carterm

Hi ladies,

Has anyone taken antibiotics during previous pg's? I've been really poorly for the last week and went to the docs this morning for her to give me Erythromycin antibiotics for an ear and chest infection.

I got really worried when I read the leaflet as it said 'do not take while pregnant' so rang back to double check and she said not to worry and she'd checked it with the pharmacist too.....but I can't help worrying!

And ladies, I'm feeling all fat too....I've taken to tying my jeans with a hair bobble as I can't fasten my skinny jeans!! I thought I was far too early to be wearing mat clothes but I've just given in and ordered a load of stuff from TopShop and may just browse Mama's and Papa's now!!

Hope you all ok, and speak soon

girlsyearapart · 16/02/2010 12:34

Hi I took antibiotics while I was pg with dd2 fir a kidney infection. Can't remember which one though.
will do pancakes later- once it has stopped raining and I can go to the shops..

my dad is always told he is overweight- he has not one scrap of fat on him and is fit as a fiddle.

Chulita · 16/02/2010 12:40

I lost all the baby weight I put on with DD within 9 months of having her and I didn't diet or exercise beyond pushing her buggy and a bit of jogging (I mean a tiny bit, less than 3 times a week!) I was more careful about what I ate but let's all remember we're not getting fat, we're pregnant. There's a huge difference. I look very chubby at the mo, been in maternity jeans for about 4 weeks and I get upset sometimes at my body (I'm 5ft3 and used to be a size 14/16, I worked hard to get down to an 8/10 so it's painful to see it creeping on again) but DH keeps reminding me that it's baby, and you can't lose weight now so just put it in your head that we're going to get big as houses, poo out a little screaming gremlin and then be able to lose it after that

hilda - I've not taken antibiotics but this site seems to say that certain ones are fine when pregnant and Erythromycin is on the list!

hildainstant · 16/02/2010 12:52

Thank you so much Chulita, that makes me feel so much better

mrsZaC · 16/02/2010 12:52

agreed chulita doesn't stop the paranoia though! But like I say all for a good cause, just helps to know your not the only one who feels this way.

Can someone please help with my due date calculation I think my midwife has messed it up?!!!!

I've been working on a due date of 26th of August based on my dating scan, which I thought made me 12 weeks 5 days?

Now I ended up having my booking in with a trainee midwife who said she couldn't find my dating scan paperwork (boo) so she was working out my due date from my LMP which started 20th November (I think). She said that made my due date 27th August but that I was only 11 weeks 5 days along. Can someone PLEASE explain this disparity?!! I don't want to go backwards to before the 12 week mark again :-(

Thanks!

Doodleydoo · 16/02/2010 13:46

Well Pamplemousse - I my due date from lmp (10th nov) is 17th August, you are 10 days later and therefore 10 days behind me, I am 14 weeks today which I think does make you 12 weeks rather than under.... daft trainee midwife, you might be 12.4 rather than anything else!

nigella pancakes these are what I am hankering for - am sure we can have as the alcohol is burned off, if not then we can just have without the booze!

I really want to go and try some things on too at Mama's and Papa's - have just discovered there is an outlet store near me!!!!!!

marzipananimal · 16/02/2010 13:47

pample based on your LMP I work it out as 11 + 4 (my LMP was 12th Nov and i'm now 13 + 5) but don't worry, I think the scan is more accurate so stick with that date

marzipananimal · 16/02/2010 13:49

oops - really bad maths there! that would make you 12 + 4 pample

bigmuther65 · 16/02/2010 13:51

Thought i would get told of by my midwife about my weight as i am 15st actually tipped the scales at nearly 23st at my heavest but have managed to lose a lot of weight in the last couple of years. My midwife was lovely and was in really impressed at how well i have done.

pamplem0usse · 16/02/2010 13:53

Thanks ladies, that's pretty much what I thought! My husband told me to tip-ex out what she's written LOL.....

Doodleydoo · 16/02/2010 13:53

The problem with weight is it is such an emotive subject normally, that with hormones jumping on top I think it really gets on top of you. I think Midwives have a duty to inform you if they think you are in the overweight category because of the associated risks - i.e gestational diabetes - would prefer to know about it before than after- but then some skinny women have had it to so....... but they shouldn't make you feel crap about it as lets face it mine said - you are obese, but you can't diet.....ok so make me feel bloody great, and when i said I was getting a personal trainer she told me to be careful and not to overdo it - so how the hell are you meant to win!!!!!!

BTW, I know it sounds all posh etc having a pt and maybe it is, but have found it a good way of spending my money - I don't go out, aren't a member of a gym and it keeps my sanity up there - the pt comes to my house so can do it with dd around and frankly was suprised at how little I was spending on it if that makes any sense? it is my only vice! Although I admit it might just be cheaper to get a dog and walk for miles.........

mrsZaC · 16/02/2010 13:53

sounds like she's a week out pamplem0usse your dates are similar to mine, although I can't go my LMP as I didn't have one - doh! but i can go by the dates when I got my first faint positive test and pretty much know the date I conceived. Maybe for some reason she thought your cycles were longer?

pamplem0usse · 16/02/2010 14:00

No I think she just made a mistake! I've just double checked my calculations using my diary and get 12 + 4 so I've changed it in my file.
It was a bit of a farce really because she was a trainee midwife and the (real) midwife asked if I minded if the trainee did my booking in. I assumed that meant she would be in the room too but she wasn't and the trainee kept getting little things wrong :s Oh well!

neenz · 16/02/2010 14:02

You didn't have an LMP, MrsZac? Why is that?

Pample, have you had your scan yet - they will go off the date the scan gives you anyway so don't worry about the MW getting it wrong.

Can't wait for pancakes tonight - lots of golden syrup on them... yum

pamplem0usse · 16/02/2010 14:04

neenz yes I've had my scan but the trainee midwife insisted they hadn't got the paperwork (which I suspect is actually sitting in my GPs file) so she was going off my LMP which she seems to have got wrong. My scan was at 10+4 because I had a bleed but they told me it counted as a dating scan. Have a NT on Monday so might ask them to re-check then!

mrsZaC · 16/02/2010 14:23

could be wrong but I was meaning LMP=last missed period

mrsZaC · 16/02/2010 14:25

haha wow preggers brain, sorrry neez totally read that wrong.. I came off the pill and got a positive 2 months later but I hadn't had a period so had no dates to go by.

Doodleydoo · 16/02/2010 14:27

Pample, sometimes the mw is just all wrong in the notes - they wrote on my notes that I had irregular periods because they aren't exactly 28 days apart - they are more like 29/30 but apparently that isn't normal so now on my new notes it says irregular anyway, lets just face it we all know that its meant to be 40 weeks, but I bet most people have their dc more like 41! Due dates are there to give you an idea and for everyone else to call and find out if you are in labour yet and if you have a lazy baby , by 39 weeks you will be so fed up - am thinking of telling everyone it will be a week later than due date to get them all to shut up!

KayloHalo · 16/02/2010 14:35

God I am so phenomenolly tired today and have such a headache!! Feel like I can think straight, or see straight. And the lights in the office are bothering me and making me blink more than normal.

Has anyone else had this?

OP posts:
mrsZaC · 16/02/2010 14:42

owh poor Kaylo, not had funny goings on with lights but I've had on-off headaches for the past week it's like dehydration headaches but I'm drinking plenty of fluids.
