Thanks girls, feel much better about buying the dress on a whim! But MrsZaC its elusive that's going to Oxford not me, although my new dress would be perfect for mooching around the art galleries of Oxford

kaylo sweetie, your SPD sounds awful. Are you able to get yourself to an antenatal yoga class? A girl in my antenatal yoga has SPD and the yoga teacher gave her loads of positions to help ease it. Poor you, have a big wodge of chocolate fudge cake to cheer you up [passes entire cake and a fork to Kaylo]

marzipananimal · 11/02/2010 15:03

Congrats to those of you with good scan news
kaylo I hope you feel better soon.
In York they charge £3 for scan pics but you do get 4 so I didn't think it was too bad.
I'm thinking I need to go maternity swimming costume shopping soon - any advice on where to go? I don't have a clue about maternity stuff!

pamplem0usse · 11/02/2010 15:36

Elusive I'm very jealous. We used to live in Oxford and I do miss it so.... which college were you at?
Sorry I've been a bit of a lurker everyone. After three bleeds (and three scans that said all was fine) I'm still a bit nervous.... got my booking in on Tuesday and finally have my '12 week' scan the week after (when I'll be 13 and a half...).
Glad to hear everyone's have gone well, keep your fingers crossed for me!

girlsyearapart · 11/02/2010 16:19

We had to pay £3 for photos. Got three I think. It was on the scan appointment letter so look through yours and it should say.

pample I had a maternity cossie from mothercare, needed one for work and it was the only one I could find!

kaylo you can't possibly finish all that cake by yourself....

neenz · 11/02/2010 16:21

We are supposed to pay £4 per photo here but often they let you off. This time she gave us two for free, and said 'with twins already you've got better things to spend your money on'

ElusiveMoose · 11/02/2010 17:09

Congrats to everyone with good scan news. Pample, hopefully the bleeding is just 'one of those things' - the fact that you've had three good scans suggests maybe it is. My college was Trinity, so nice and central for the shops . I think the plan is to go to Jamie's Italian for dinner - I looked online, and the menu sounds very yum.

I was hoping Bravissimo did maternity cossies, given that there's one over the road in Oxford, but apparently not. I had a quick look on the M&P website today and they had a couple of nice ones on there, and Jojo do them too. I'm really averse to spending too much, though; might have a look on Ebay, actually.

Oh, and we got four photos free (don't know why - had to pay last time).

Kaylo, sorry things are so tough for you - hope you can give yourself plenty of rest, though not exactly easy with 2 DC to look after.

Just updating to say my scan went well. Although I am a week less than I thought so have to go back week Friday for the nuchal scan, but they said good strong heartbeat and baby was literally jumping up and down. It was so lovely - considering its my first and never seen that before. Me and DH both shed a few tears!!!!!

Will wait until week Friday to change my due date which will prob be September but would like to stay on this thread if you'll have me!

hildainstant · 11/02/2010 17:39

Hi ladies,

I'm new to mumsnet and sorry to say that I haven't read the full thread - forgive me!

This is my first pregnancy and my due date is 29th August so I'm approaching 12 weeks this weekend. I'm generally feeling crap (hope this is normal?!) but I'm lucky to have an understanding boss!!

I had an early scan at 8 wks as I had pinky/brown discharge and cramps and seeing the heartbeat was emotional to say the least! It was so lovely to see this little kidney bean that was our baby!

Anyhoo, it'll be great to make some good friends on here for support and advice, and to go through this next 6 months together!

I live in Sunderland and seem to have a great team of midwives, even though I've met one once, and had nothing other than telephone contact!

Aussieng · 11/02/2010 17:50

welcome Hilda now go back and read the thread from the beginning and when you come back we will add you to the list if you pass the quiz

I had to tell my boss early too due to sickness and exhaustion - mine started to pass at around 16 weeks so you have my sympathies

yeay Sparkle!

Thanks everyone, choc fudge cake was just what I needed but plenty left for you lot passes it back around>

More newbies - YAY welcome!!!!

WRT scan photos, we are asked to pay £4 for ours but we get 2 (more if it's a nice sonographer) in a folder so I don't mind.

I just heard that my friend has lost her baby she was ten weeks pregnant. It was our manager that told me and now I'm scared to text her or cal her - what would I say considering it wasn't her that told me?

So so sad for her.

OP posts:
hildainstant · 11/02/2010 18:24

Hi KayloHalo,

Maybe she asked for your manager to tell you all? In my view (which may not be the best!) not acknowledging that it has happened may be worse. Just a simple text to say how sorry you are and offering your support may be enough?

Hope that helps x

KayloHalo · 11/02/2010 18:38

Thanks Hilda, I reckon you're right - I text her saying I'm here if she needs/wants to talk and that I was sorry.

I really could cry for her, its her first pregnancy.

I definitely feel better for texting her.

Can someone please add me to the list? I'm due 26th August....

Elusive (sorry everyone else for taking over the thread with Oxford chat) I was at SPC, good location for shopping, rubbish for just about everything else!

Have you booked Jamie's Italian?? We went about 4 months after it had opened and there were still queues out of the door, I hear from friends it still gets pretty busy..... we enjoyed it but didn't think it was up to the likes of Quad which is fairly similarly priced I think! (but then I'm an awkward veggie!)

hildainstant · 11/02/2010 19:15

Is anyone else expecting quite a stressful pg? I'm a senior manager for a Police Force, in my final semester studying for a MA and we now need to move to a bigger house so we're house hunting (I don't do things by halves!) as well as feeling crap through my first trimester.

Right now, I dont know how I'm going to do it all, but I'm sure I will. Anyone else with loads on their plate?

xx

aendr · 11/02/2010 20:15

I had my scan today - nice wiggly baby, nuchal fold fine, had my due date adjusted back a little. Went to the ensuite loo (bladder rather full!) and oh dear - pink! Went back in and told the sonographer and she went white (never had that happen before). We reckon it's coincidence, as I bled at 12 weeks last time too. So, ended up having extra blood test and an internal exam, and then anti-D (I mentioned I hate needles before didn't I?) My DH had to get another parking ticket, we were there for so long. The staff at Hinchingbrooke are lovely though. It looks like it's nothing bad, though I'm to keep an eye on it, but I'd have been happier without all stress.

feather2 · 11/02/2010 23:59

Hi There!

Wow, this is a long thread. I'm impressed.

I'm new here - I recently joined mumsnet because I am expecting my first.

I'm due 14th August - actually I'm not quite 13 weeks yet, but the baby was big at the nuchal scan so they pulled the date forward.

I could really do with some cheering up - I've had a pretty bad time so far and I've got a lot going on apart from the pregnancy. So I guess I'll go back a bit and catch up. Looking forward to getting to know you all and seeing what everyone's stories are!!!!

I hope I don't have to pass a test before you'll accept me here - lost my brain a couple of weeks ago.

Chulita · 12/02/2010 08:00

feather, as long as you bring cake we'll waive the entry exam
DD was up with her dad at 0530 today, lucky me...she's now whinging and I just want to go back to bed. I keep debating putting her in nursery for one day a week so I can sleep!

KayloHalo · 12/02/2010 10:26

Morning girls, lovely miserable day isn't it?

Got to take DS for his pre-school booster injections in a bit, I told him and now he's really scared and keeps saying he's not brave enough . I'm gonna be sobbing in that room with him - hormonal as I am

Welcome feather, hope you have a peaceful pregnancy despite everything going on.
It does all seem to happen at once doesn't it?

Chulita One day a week isn't bad at all - gives you chance to catch up with your sleep that way.

Anyhoo, guess I'd better go brace yself and DS for the health visitor jabs. At least I'll get to see my HV again and give her the happy new baby news. And I think I'll take DS to McDonalds or something as a treat for afterwards.

Love to all xxx

OP posts:
Chulita · 12/02/2010 11:10

Well, we're all very quiet today! I hope the boosters were ok kaylo, don't think I could hold it together either! And McDonalds is a great idea
The only thing that's stopping me putting DD in nursery is that I'm totally pfb about her I think I'd cry if I dropped her off! Something I definitely need to deal with or I'll be worrying about her when I'm trying to push the second one out...
hilda, I'm doing my best to have a very chilled out pregancy. I'm a sahm so look after a toddler all day which I find hard but not stressful, DH has a stressful job at the mo though so he brings enough home for both of us! Hope you manage to relax even with everything you've got to do!

bigmuther65 · 12/02/2010 11:36

Starting to relax a little more no bleeding or pain so far this week.Been busy this morning had my antenatal at hospital heard heartbeat with the doppler, also my ds had a appointment at orthopedics we had a big full English breakfast at the hospital its amazing how fatty greasy food can make you feel better stoped of at town on way home and brought some Gregg's sausage rolls for later i will be as big as a house soon.
Welcome feather you can always come on hear to chat if you are feeling low always lovely ladies to hold your hand through all this madness
Also welcome to Hilda

Kaylo you have my upper most sympathy i suffered SPD with first DS
now you mention macdonalds drooling at the mouth think i can get away with being a pig i am pregnant

LCRLCR · 12/02/2010 12:15

hi happy friday everyone! My mum is visiting from Ireland for the weekend and I am sooooo excited - I've got my scans ready to show here and the baby's heartbeat on my ipod so she can get all excited about being a granny!!!

I've got a question - pretty minor but wondered if anyone else had experienced similar. Every since I got pregnant my skin has been horrifically dry - my scalp is flaking and the corners of my mouth are raw and cracked. My partner thinks I've got crumbs round my mouth but actually it's horrid pieces of skin!

Anyone had similiar? help!

xx

cakeywakey · 12/02/2010 12:57

Afternoon ladies - and hello to everyone new! Just updating the list with my good scan results and earlier due date

Baby was very wriggly - was amazing to see. We had a really lovely sonographer which made it a nice scan too. Phew!

Am looking forward to telling all and sundry about our good news now - it's properly real now that we've seen our bean.

Hope you're more comfortable today Kaylo and glad to hear that you're feeling better Bigmuther. Have a great weekend with your Mum LCR - I've not suffered dry skin myself but can recommend Liz Earle's superbalm, it's fab stuff for dry and even cracked skin.

Sorry LCR - not had dry skin during pregnancy, but have used superbalm on my hands (very senstive skin that dries out super-easily) and it really hits the spot.
