Hi all,

Great news on all the good scans.

Pample, I'm ashamed to say that I don't think I ever actually went into St Peters in my four years at Oxford (Oxford? Insular? Surely not ) What did you read? I was a classicist. Haven't booked at Jamie's, because you can't book (probably explains the big queues!). We'd rather not book anywhere as we're not sure what we'll fancy doing yet, so I thought somewhere that doesn't take any bookings at all might actually be a good bet (especially as it's Valentine's weekend, so some places might be very busy). I haven't been to Quad, but thanks for the recommendation - we'll go and check it out.

Haven't experienced the skin problem myself, but I do know that pregnancy can do all sorts of weird things to your skin (and that's before the stretch marks hit ).

Feather, I'm actually hoping for a very laid back pregnancy, as my last one was incredibly easy. What I'm rather dreading is the bit after the birth.... I can honestly say that the first three months with DS was the worst time of my life (sorry, first timers!), and the thought of doing it again with a toddler is pretty daunting. I'm just telling myself that it WILL be easier this time around, because everyone says that second babies are usually easier [fingers crossed emoticon].

KayloHalo · 12/02/2010 14:30

Cakey Thats great news about your scan

LCR Since being pregnant I've had dry skin on my upper arms and I've been putting Johnsons baby lotion on it seems to work lovely.

Chulita I was the same when it was tie to go back to work after having dd - I sobbed buckets when I had to leave her with my mum (childminder) but it only lasted a couple of days. When she went 'big nursery' she loved it so much it was almost a second home for her. Definitely no regrets.

Can't stay long, again, I've got to clean up before I go get the kiddies from school as we have a party to go to - which I really don't wanna. I don't know any of the mums really cos out of all dd's class I think there's only about 3 or 4 mums who work. An they're not going because they're working - it's only cos of my SPD issues that I'm not working.
Gonna feel like a spare part I think, well at least I'll have ds there for support bless him. He now hates all nurses cos they hurt him with needles He was so good tho an they gave him a certificate - and yes...I blubbed my eyes out (but not til we got back to the car ).

bye for now xxxx

OMG! It's not all slow! eek

neenz · 12/02/2010 15:43

I've been to Quad in Oxford - it was really nice!

The DTs had a bug on Wed and last night I puked too . It was horrid, I felt rotten in the afternoon, went to bed when I got home from work and then got up at 11pm to puke. Felt much better after that and have been ok today. Feel much better for having had 12 hours in bed too!

I was planning to quit my job after this baby because all my wages would have been wiped out with 3 in childcare, but every time I thought of leaving it felt like a real wrench because I have worked really hard to get where I am and although I don't earn megabucks I work for a national newspaper and its quite presitigious. So I asked at work whether I could change my hours to 2-9pm so I only have to pay for half a day's childcare and they said yes! I can start the new hours straight away, but need to renegotiate my hours with the CM. Anyone had any experience of that? What is the etiquette - not sure she will be so keen to only have them half a day... might need to switch them to nursery.

neenz · 12/02/2010 15:43

Chulita,, what's the link? It's not loading...

Chulita · 12/02/2010 16:44

typical - it was a lady giving birth in the entrance of the hospital (nothing dramatic, just thought it's not always a massive 36 hour struggle!).

Chulita · 12/02/2010 16:45

Well done for getting different hours, that's brilliant! Lucky you for having understanding bosses

Doodleydoo · 12/02/2010 17:36

It is a woman giving birth in the hospital doorway as it happened so quickly! On Sky News.

Good news neenz about the job, that sounds great! I used to work for a national paper but don't think it was as prestigious as yours, mine is not always seen in the best light!

Got a grumpy child who is getting a cold and only wants to drink innocent smoothie - could be worse i suppose!

starshaker · 12/02/2010 18:21

well ive had a really shitty day.

Wont go into details as im sure others are a bit squeemish like me.
DD caught her finger in the door last night and was not good. Had to go to theatre to have it swen back on. Thats the brief version. But ive had 2 hours sleep and im so sore cos ive overdone it alot.

marzipananimal · 12/02/2010 18:42

starshaker you poor thing and poor DD. Really hope you both sleep well tonight and feel much better in the morning x

cazzybabs · 12/02/2010 20:02

grggghhhhhhhh - went to the doctors to have my 14 (or actually 16 weeks blood takens) and the bloody nurse wouldn't take them because the midwife hadn't counseled me about HIV etc tests...what a waste of an hour. So I need another to go another time - ahhhh...and on the way my bike broke and I got shouted out by a lorry driver for cycling up the wrong way up a one way street (it has a cycle line going the way I was going)..sigh never mind

Chulita · 12/02/2010 20:49

starshaker, I really hope your DD gets better very quickly and sleeps well tonight. [hugs]
cazzybabs, sorry you got mucked about - it did make me smile though with the lorry driver, I've had a few run-ins with them!
I just woke up from a 3 hour nap, I'm really hoping I manage to sleep til a decent time tomorrow, I only meant to close my eyes...

LeeKerry · 12/02/2010 23:36

OOO (new to MN) can I join this club? And how do I actually join? I'm due 24th August

ronx · 12/02/2010 23:45

Well done for getting the different hours neenz. Which paper do you work for? I'm on a national too. I work three days a week from 2.30 - 10.30, but all I do when I come home from work now is go straight to bed.

The worst your childminder will say to the reduced hours is 'no'.

girlsyearapart · 13/02/2010 07:58

starshaker oh your poor dd hope things are looking up today.

have to drive across london with the dds today on my own to go to a christening really not looking forward to it as hate drivng to places I don't know especially with the kids..

also apart from the couple whose baby it is I won't know anyone.

anyway if I can manage to get back from there I'm going to a quiz with my sister tonight..

starshaker · 13/02/2010 08:49

well by 8 last night we were both in bed asleep. Think its very sore today but she refuses to take any medicine including her antibiotic. She seems a bit brighter today but is still chalk white. Trying all my tricks to get her to eat. Think she will be fine though and i just need to stop worrying.
As for me im no longer in extreme pain so think the sleep was deff needed just to let my body relax a bit

aendr · 13/02/2010 08:50

LeeKerry: you just did join, welcome to Mumsnet. :-) I'm not that experienced a mumsnetter myself, but it appears there's a 1000 post limit on threads, and we're approaching that, so keep an eye out for a new-thread announcement. To add yourself to the due dates list, just copy it and insert yourself where appropriate. Some of us are adding our age and general location, and whether the bump is our first, second etc.

Elusive/Pample: another ex-ox person here, though only for my DPhil. I was at BNC. Met my OH there, he was a Magdalenite (also DPhilling). I'm pleased to say that I did get to SPC - I even visited Templeton that was.

After my scan, and with the extra prodding and poking due to the bleed, my belly feels quite bruised and tender. Did anyone else have this?

pamplem0usse · 13/02/2010 10:02

Aendr/ Elusive.... I was just doing my MSc there, in the incomprehensibly titled Material Anthropology and Museum Ethnography! Doing my PhD elsewhere now (and will still be when little one arrives... oops!
Aendr - I'm not sure 'only' and 'DPhil' should be used in the same sentence!!
Elusive -- if you like thai Chang Mai on the High Street is amazing (OK it does now look like I spent my whole time at Oxford going out for dinner!).....

Sx

KayloHalo · 13/02/2010 10:06

Awwww, Starshaker* Hope your dd is on the mend, how awful for you both!! Glad you're feeling better.

Cazzy What a rude lorry driver, and couldn't the nurse counsel you on the HIV testing, saves you being mucked about left right and centre.

LeeKerry Welcome to our humble thread

aendr I had a sore belly as well as although I didn't bleed, baby was in a funny position and asleep so sonographer prodded me in an attempt to wake him/her up.

xxx

OP posts:
Aussieng · 13/02/2010 11:14

my HIV counselling consisted of " one of the blood tests is for HIV is that ok with you". What nonsense Cazzy to be messed around like that.

aendr - I had a lot of sharp cramps after my scan - kind of like the baby getting its own back.

Welcome LeeKerry

Was really really really hoping to go on holiday at the end of next week but all the prices shot up with it being half term and now I seem to have missed the boat since all of the last minute deals are onto the following week. DH does not want to go the week after next(pay week for most people on monthly salaries so good income for him usually) and I then have my 20 week scan after that which means we now can't go until mid march Was so looking forward to relaxing and not going to work for a week.

Girlsyearpart is your DH working on Sunday - mine does not usually work Sunday nights but is this week due to it being VD which while I don't usually mind the weekend working too much is a bit

vix206 · 13/02/2010 13:56

re HIV test, the midwife just said ' The HIV test is not compulsory, so you don't have to have it' and that was the end of the 'counselling'.

neenz · 13/02/2010 14:25

Same here with the HIV test - the 'counselling' wasn't very intense. Ridiculous not to give you the blood test for that reason.

Welcome LeeKerry - another experienced mum, onto your third! What other kids have you got?

Pretty impressed/scared that there are other journalists on this thread! I am a sub at Express Newspapers (so Express and Daily Star) so when you say your paper's not so prestigious you can't get much less prestigious than the Daily Star can you (maybe Daily Sport!), and I work on the Daily Star TV mag, as well as the Express Saturday mag, I also muck in on New and Star magazines as they are produced in the same office. My boss pretty much said 'I don't really care whay hours you do' and it is actually better for him to have some people in early and some late, gives him more flexibility with flow of pages etc.

neenz · 13/02/2010 14:27

Ronx, you have to tell me which paper you work for now!

Doodleydoo · 13/02/2010 14:42

neenz I used to work for DM on one of the weekend tv supps. That is why it ain't so prestigious - you don't get much more of a hated paper than that do you!!!!!!

Now who does Ronx work for?????

Hope the childminder lets you have those hours! I am trying to get my dh of the sofa as meant to be catching a train in 20 mins and he refuses to turn the f ing rugby off!
