Gosh Initio that sounds hard going. Hope you heal well. Congratulations on the safe arrival of Joseph.

Will be interesting to see if anyone else has ended up having a Valentine's baby (as 6 were due!) or if I will be the only one (who wasn't due till today).

Thomas doing well, DS1 very confused (and caught him applying gentle inquisitve pressure to Thomas's nose with the underside of his slippered foot this morning while I emptied the potty!!) However, made up for it at bedtime by giving him several tender kisses which made me sob (holds it together all day and then sobs quietly during the evening-type hormonal woman!)

Stoofadoof - totally sympathise re mothers - mine put on facebook last week to my brother 'Come and see your fat sister' which was no doubt read by all the people I went to school with who don't know I was pregnant!

More good luck wishes to all.

Nikki87 · 18/02/2010 00:03

congrats on all the new arrivals :D

stoofadoof · 18/02/2010 07:02

thank you all for helping me feel a bit better!

midnightsun right there with you on overdue and vbac... consultants opening pitch yesterday was 'we'll leave you another 9 days (by which time i'd be 41+5) then we'll see if we can get in and break your waters, leave it a few hours and see if anything happens, then have a think about what to do next....' erm NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!

still nowt doing here... must go and finish my job application tho, just in case it all kicks off!! (some chance!)

hoping no news is good news from a few of you (3plus1 totally etc - no posts for a few days)

mawbroon · 18/02/2010 09:27

I saw totallyandutterlypaninied on a breast feeding thread the other day, so I am assuming that her wee one put in an appearance.

I am in the VBAC boat as well stoofadoof. My consultant has booked me in for a cs on 8th march which will be 41+2. I don't know why he also said 9 days. Is it a lucky number in obstetrics or something?!!

I am managing much better in my boot now. I don't need the crutches in the house, and have a better walking action because of the shape of the boot. I have the chiropodist coming this morning to get my foot tidied up a bit after 6 weeks in plaster. She will need a Black & Decker sander I think.....

Midwife coming today to do all the routine stuff. She is great, I am so pleased that she agreed to come to the house rather than me have to faff about getting to the surgery for such a short appointment.

I was back at the doc yesterday about my thrush. I think I am now on to the 5th (?) round of treatment. She has given me 12 pessaries, which will actually take me to past my due date and hopefully it will clear up soon after the baby is born. Coupled with the cream, it's so fecking messy. I hate it! Doc did annoy me somewhat by arguing with me that thrush couldn't cause any breastfeeding problems, but she had already annoyed me on a previous occasion by bursting out laughing when I told her (re medication I was being prescribed) that 4yo ds was still feeding. So maybe I was being a bit sensitive....

DorindaG · 18/02/2010 19:07

Hi all,

finally here to announce proudly that I had my baby just a few hours after his due date of 6th feb!
Benjamin Samuel was born on Sunday 7th Feb at 5.26am, weighing 7lbs 12oz.

I had contractions from about 4pm the previous night (proper from about 9pm). Phoned hospital in the small hours because I'd had some bleeding and they said come in to be checked. Contractions still 6 mins apart at that point. Hospital literally round the corner from our apt - but by the time we got there my contractions had gone 'whizz' and were only 2and a half mins apart!
Had baby within an hour of being in the delivery room.

He came out a bit oddly - face presenting uowards, so the first thing they saw was a little mouth with a tongue sticking out! He got stuck for a short while and I think they were a little bit worried, but I was determined to get him out quick once the real pain kicked in!
Poor little mite's mouth and cheeks were all purple and bruised, but had healed up in a day or two. I think it definitely made him reluctant to breast feed though.

He's the spit of his dad, and gorgeous! I think dad was a bit shocked at the speed of things, and we've both been emotionally overaught, but he's been fantastic support - esp. as my iron levels dropped even lower after the birth (I passed out in the bathroom in the hospital while washing afterwards!) Getting better but of course finding parenting much harder than we realised/expected it would be (and yet, also much more rewarding than we ever imagined, even in these early stages).

Sorry - huge message!

InmaculadaConcepcion · 18/02/2010 19:58

Ah, congratulations Dorinda - wonderful news.

fiziwizzle · 18/02/2010 21:12

Congratulations Dorinda! Sounds like he may have been back to back? Well done you for pushing him out upside-down .

I will have a go at updating the list again...

threeplusone · 18/02/2010 21:15

Sorry havent had chance to catch up congratulations to the the new mammys..

Well oliver james arrived on Monday night at 1950 weighing a whopping 8lb 2oz (and they told me he was going to be 6lb)

#After posting on here that i thought my waters were leaking we went for our appointment at outpatients, they examined me straight away and sent me to the delivery suit, as I was leaking fluid.
In delivery suite the bomb shell was dropped on me that I was carrying the Group Strep B virus.. and I needed to be put on antibiotics 3 lots over the day and night, as they didnt think I was going to have him that night as the contractions were not registering on the CTG.
Admitted on to the ward at lunch time, was still contracting, went to the delivery suite at 3 for another CTG aagain no contractions shown, and they were hurting. Told to go back for monitering at 1930.

By 1730 contractions were getting painful, by 1830 I asked on the ward if I could go to the delivery suite to be monitered as was in pain.. they said yes.
Again on the moniter no contractions showing.. I had an almighty one, which shocked the MW and Olivers heartbeat was lost.. it returned but was at 70beats per minute and eventually back up to over 110.. As my last delivery was fast they decided to give me a drip at 1900 to speed up the contractions..
And boy did this work..(still no sign on contractions on CTG!! ) 50 minutes later out came Oliver.. (stilol not had a contraction according to the CTG!!)I had a slight tear and they wanted to put in two stiches but i refused..

It was funny in places like me appologising to the mw for saying OW OW OW in the contractions then singing and humming my way through them!!!!.. I was impressed withmy self I only swore once and that was to my husband I said.. F**k this hurts..
Inbetween going OW ow ow and hmmmmmmm I kept looking at my DH and saying I love you..

When the MW told me I could push I said no I cant yety I am not fully dilated!!!! you want me to push for hours... lol.. 5minutes later I pushed as I felt the need to then.

So even though it was dramatic in places everything turmned put fine and baby Oliver is now at home were he belongs.. we got discharged to day , with the warning to keep an eye out for things due to the group strep B and he is also slightly Jaundiced.
My BP is also Sky high again...

Sorry for the long ramble hope it all makes sense..

Good luck those still waiting.. mught not be on for a while as I need to sort out ,my routine with this tribe.. I feel all wrong at themoment andnothing is organised !!!! Or maybe that is because I am too tired..

fiziwizzle · 18/02/2010 21:31

They are appearing as fast as I can update the list!! Congratulations, threeplusone it sounds as if you did a fantastic job! I love the humming through the contractions .

fiziwizzle · 18/02/2010 21:35

40+10 today and nothing at all going on here . We did two good half hour sessions of nipple-twiddling yesterday which produced strong braxton hicks but nothing more. AND WHAT GOOD ARE THEY?! Then I had a rubbish night's sleep, so haven't bothered twiddling today. Too grumpy to twiddle. Just had a hot chilli for dinner but am not holding my breath .

stoofadoof · 19/02/2010 02:13

yey Dorinda and 3plus1 congratulations!

still nowt here! currently stressing cos i can't find a radiography place with a vacancy on monday to get my 41 wk scan done! they're all fully booked close by, so might have to head further afield (unless he arrives over the weekend of course!) ... just waiting for MW to call back with a plan B... was much easier just turning up at the hospital back in the uk!!

fizi i got absolutely no signs of anything at all last time, until my waters went at 42+1, 15 hours before my induction was booked! There's still time!

good luck all

threeplusone · 19/02/2010 09:04

stoofadoof good luck in finding somewhere to have your scan .. sending you lots of labour vibes.. xx
Lots of labour vibes coming your way to Fiziwizzle and to everyone else waiting..

InmaculadaConcepcion · 19/02/2010 09:05

Whoopee, 3+1, well done you and welcome to your LO! Good luck with integrating him into the rest of the family.

tinkerbug · 19/02/2010 12:43

fizi thanks for the info re spinning babies website, it has loads of useful info!

Huge congrats to the new arrivals.

Getting v frustrated by well meaning relatives texting "any news?" every day...I know they mean well but it just makes me more fed up of waiting, and I'm not even due till Monday!

DH being v sweet, every time I get up in the night for a wee (currently about once every 2 hours) he says "are you ok? Have your waters broken?" - bless him, think he is starting to panic a bit...

And, with perfect timing, I found out a couple of days ago that I have been summoned for jury duty on 8th March! I have asked for a deferment (think that's what it's called) until next year and still waiting to hear back - just what I don't need!

Good luck to everyone else still waiting....

HappySurfWidow · 19/02/2010 14:14

Hi everyone,

I thought I'd check in and wish plenty of hearty congratulations for the latest arrivals... (Admittedly, I find it hard to keep up with who has had who and when (which is why fizziwizzle's list is invaluable)... You're all doing an amazing job - I'm in awe...

Had my hopsital check-up yesterday (am at 40+5 now) and both the baby's and my vitals are great. Am 1cm dilated but not enough for a sweep apparently (found the French for it!!), so am back on the pineapple (5th in 5 days!) and bouncing ball!

So the arrangment is that, unless something happens before, I have to go to the hospital next Wed (my French due date) for them to see if we're both still OK to keep waiting for labour to start naturally. Depending on our health situation, my hospital won't definitely induce till the 2nd March... which is plenty of time for baby to get a move on by himself! Phew...

Was pretty cheesed off though with my doctor when he STATED to me that I WILL have an epidural! I argued back that I wanted to wait and see how things go and decide in the moment (which is what my MW is happy for me to do). He then explained to me (like I was an ignoramus & with plenty of drama - to put the fear into DH!) that epidurals aren't only for pain relief, but to ensure our safety... His reasoning was that even if I get through labour & birth without an epi, then I'd be buggered afterwards if there's a complication with the expulsion of the placenta! He said it's better to have it (even if I can manage the pain without!) just to be sure no precious time is lost in the event of something unforeseeable happening.

I understand that he's seen it all and probably has a much more realistic vision of childbirth than I do (me the idealistic, first-timer!), but I just don't agree. I don't like mucking around with nature and I really want to give my body the chance to perform the miracle it was built to do...

Perhaps I'll be screaming the place down for an epi from my first real contraction, but I at least want to have the chance to decide for myself!! And if something terrible happens and they need to knock me out with GA & I miss the first few hours of my LO's life, then I'll deal with it then...

I so hope all goes OK and I have the lovely supportive MWs rather than the bully-doctor!!

Anyway, sorry for the rant... but thanks for giving me the chance to get out my frustrations.

Have a great weekend everyone!

catinaboot · 19/02/2010 14:24

Yay, I've made it on to the list. Thanks fizi.

My mobile managed to vibrate its way off the bedside table and into a glass of water yesterday. Was still ringing at the bottom of the glass when i got to it. Worked for a bit, now kaput (sp?). Atleast i don't have to put up with well-meaning texts! It's an option though tinkerbug - phone suicide!

Started to worry last night that baby was not moving as he much as usual because he's been really active, and it was just movement rather than active kicking. He's 3/5 - is that normal?

Got docs on Monday, presumably to talk about sweeps etc and boot off on Tuesday. Phew! Defo getting my money's worth from the nhs.

fiziwizzle · 19/02/2010 14:43

LOL at catinaboot's phone committing suicide! Mine did that years ago, my brother opened it up and dried it with a hairdryer and it was right as rain . You would then have to endure the well-meaning texts though... (FFS I will tell you when I have the baby...!).

HappySurfWidow I am with you 100% on waiting to see if you need an epidural or not. Dr sounds like he is from the Dark Ages. These days it's all about natural childbirth, isn't it?! Of course you should be allowed to labour as YOU want, not as the hospital wants. Stand your ground lady! And if you do want one in the end, at least it's on your terms, and you gave it your best shot. Are you having all these discussions in French?

My DP has just sent me a pleading text asking if I can ring him pretending that I'm in labour so that his weekend can start early . I'd love to have him home but can't tempt fate like that! I have a feeling this baby is going to be WAY late and he'll have to go back in on Monday with egg on his face...

AbsB · 19/02/2010 14:44

Hey Ladies, Congrats on the new arrivals, I'm sorry I just can't keep up! Thanks Fizi for updating the list...

I am 39 weeks today and went to the GP for my check up... have a UTI so on antibiotics which is a bit annoying as everything has been really good up til now.

Today is my last day at work Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My ankles are HUGE!

Tinkerbug I have exactly the same thing, the phone keeps ringing and lots of well meaning texts! Have put DP on phone screening duty which means I'm permanently "in the bath" or "having a rest"... My own father texted me from abroad saying "Are you a mummy yet?" JESUS! You'd think he'd know better!

stressheaderic · 19/02/2010 17:40

Hello all

Bit frustrated here....39 weeks today, induction booked for Mon cos of a few episodes of red bleeding.
Contractions started last night at 2am, came on stronger, got to every 4 mins, then had load of bright red blood, went to hosp at 7am all geared up....then it all stopped. Baby fine, 3cm dilated, so came home, feeling a bit deflated....now waiting again. Booooo - just want it over and done with now. Come on baby!

sunnybump · 19/02/2010 17:54

Hiya everyone, congratulations to the new arrivals, come and join us on the postnatal thread when you get a minute

HappySurfWidow I had a retained placenta which meant I had to have a spinal after delivery for getting it removed. I'm still so glad I got through the birth on gas & air, tens and the pool. There was plenty of time and everyone was really calm even though I lost a lot of blood. Plus my LO was born with an Apgar score of 9, healthy and bright! I think your doctor is confusing safety with his convenience You stand your ground

AbsB · 19/02/2010 20:12

Oh Stressheaderic (due date buddy) sounds like you are off and going to meet your LO really soon. Lucky you! I am jealous ... Who is going to be left on this thread? Really good luck for Monday and hope your baby shows up nice and early!

HappySurfWidow Sunnybump is right, you need to stand your ground and not let yourself be bullied by this doctor! Can you ask for a second opinion? I hope so!

More phone calls today and someone who said they would call me again next week if they hadn't heard. I told her I wouldn't be answering my phone so not to bother! Is that rude of me?

fiziwizzle · 20/02/2010 04:08

Sending you strong labour vibes stresshead and hope that you're not too worried by the bleeding. The end is in sight!

I can't sleep, AGAIN... It is so frustrating, I could just cry... Why won't this baby arrive? I would do ANYTHING to start labour off now, other than hosp induction. I am willing to take castor oil but we can't find anywhere that stocks it!

mawbroon · 20/02/2010 09:48

Nothing happening on the baby front for me yet. 39 wks today. I was 39+1 when I had my el cs with ds, so after tomorrow, I am into new territory!!

I think the baby is still kind of spinning round a bit. Sometimes his legs are on the outside of the bump, and other times I can feel his back. I had to lie on my bed with my leg in the air to get my moonboot on this morning because baby was lying in such a way that I could hardly bend over him to do the fastenings over my toes!!

I was at the physio yesterday to get some exercises for my ankle. I can do them lying or sitting, so even if I have a cs, then I will be able to do them.

Wishing labour vibes to those who want them.

tinkerbug · 20/02/2010 14:27

I'm with you on the lack of sleep fizi - isn't it typical that at the time when everyone is telling us to rest and sleep and chill out that we are all sufferring with insomnia?!! Hate it!

Good luck with the contractions stresshead!

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 20/02/2010 14:57

Hi all,

I got taken into hospital a week ago yesterday for induction but the waters had got wayyyyyy too much, baby was breech and very big according to scan and my SPD was so bad I could hardly walk at all. Coupled with the irregular heartbeat we decided it was best all round for a section. Had an extensive chat with a midwife and consultant and they said they needed to keep me in until Tuesday when I'd be having my section as if my waters went at home the cord would probably prolapse.

Ended up getting along really well with all the midwives so actually had a lovely stay in hospital!

Tuesday, DH came in at 8am, I was already up and ready. Our beautiful baby girl was born by c section, her heart became regular as soon as she screamed and she weighed 9lb 5oz (thank God she didn't go to term )

Breastfeeding is going well besides her being a hungry horrace and DS (21 months) loves her to bits.

So consider this my birth announcement guys, welcome to the world Faith Juliet
