flyingcloud · 16/02/2010 19:23

Hello everyone.

I have so much to catch up on.

Congratulations on all the new arrivals. Life has certainly changed.

I hope all those waiting are doing ok.

Just remember that good things come to those who wait...

fiziwizzle · 16/02/2010 19:36

Goodness, babies everywhere! Congratulations hannahsaunt, Nikki, chinook and MyNameIs on your clutch of beautiful babies .

How jealous am I now? 8 days overdue and counting. Trying not to count, but counting nonetheless. Absolutely nothing going on here. Having read a fair few threads on caster oil here on MN (I was considering it) I've plumped for stuffing evening primrose oil capsules up my fanny instead.

Sorry about your grampy catinaboot. Hope you manage to get to his funeral, if you want to.

tinkerbug · 16/02/2010 20:25

Hi there, another newbie here!! I've been reading this thread for a while but was unable to post from work (they don't allow access). And having recently moved house, have finally got internet at home!
Anyway, I'm due on 22nd Feb with my first baby. It's a boy and we're very excited!

I know it's very late to be joining this thread but you all sound lovely and lots of you are having the same experiences at the same time!

Have loved reading all the birth announcements and stories and am looking forward to all the ones to come...

mawbroon · 16/02/2010 20:40

Well done to all the new arrivals.

Haven't posted for a few days because I have no news whatsoever on the baby front!!

Still no news on the baby front, but i got my plaster cast off today. I have a removable boot, but I am actually way less mobile than I was in the plaster cast, so a bit of a set back. And I was cheesed off earlier because I realise that I have a long, long way to go.

Right now, I am wondering how on earth I am going to cope with everything, and a new baby.

Just tell me it will all be fine please.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 16/02/2010 20:54

Welcome tinkerbug! Mine was due the day before yours... she's been here more than three weeks now!

Aw, mawbroon, I was wondering how you were.... It WILL be OK, you know. You're a tough lady and you'll manage just fine. Sending you calcium-rich, bone-healing vibes...

bethylou · 16/02/2010 22:31

Hi all. Also have news. Went into labour at about midnight on Saturday, went into hospital at 3:15a.m due to needing antibiotics and expected to be slow like last time. Baby Thomas James arrived safely at 9:17a.m on Sunday weighing 8lbs 2oz with just gas and air and a tiny tear which is fine. Sooo much better than last time in sooo many ways and all going well. (TMI alert) I can wee without a catheter which is a huge achievement for me after a month of problems last time round!

Got home late last night and have spent the day helping DS1 (now 22 months) to get used to having a brother around. Mother-in-law has been brilliant and has now left us to it for a couple of days (DH has been brilliant too, but expect him to be!)

Breast feeding very uncomfy at the mo but persevering. Thomas was weighed today and has only lost 4% so it's obviously going well from his point of view!

Congrats to all of you who have popped and hope it happens to the rest of you soon (except Mawbroon - hope you get some more time to recover. I'm sure you will pick up again soon as you've been doing so brilliantly).

Fromm a tired but very happy mummy of 2!

skibelle · 17/02/2010 00:43

Congratulations to everyone here.

I have also joined the Mummy club. William was born last Friday 12th by ELCS due to being breech. We had a good start but are now having feeding issues and William is a bit jaundiced so am expressing for him. Hopefully things will improve soon. Good luck to those still to pop.

stoofadoof · 17/02/2010 07:26

good news from another five of you! ace! well done all...

warning.. am about to get ranty, sorry, but DH at work, and i need to get something off my chest!

saw the consultant today... without boring on, eventual outcome is that i've been waitlisted for part-elective/part-acute section next weds if haven't delivered vbac before then... (i'll be 10 days overdue)

blood pressure has shot up, i've been extremely anxious (i didn't realise til today really) and consult and senior mw have today diagnosed untreated post-traumatic stress following birth of DD.... ANYWAY... bearing this in mind, my mum (currently with us for extended period to assist with DD etc) said 'oh, so you're too posh to push then?'

i realise i'm hormonal and not in a particularly good frame of mind today, and she's doing us a massive favour, and there's lots of other stuff going on, and i've no doubt she spoke without thinking, but ffs...

i managed however, to take a deep breath and carry on without saying anything... she then followed it up with 'so whats your bp then?' i responded with 150/84 but its up from 100/60 which is what they're bothered about... my selfless ma's response? 150/84? that's nothing mine is....... etc etc etc

grr, harrumph, sod it, bloody hell, ffs etc etc etc...

sorry for the long post - very edited 'highlights' but i feel better now!

thinking of you all

flyingcloud · 17/02/2010 08:17

Skibelle - William and I share a birthday!

stoofadoof · 17/02/2010 09:07

oh balls, and now i've upset her by telling her i don't really like one particular sort of biscuit she makes... i should really go to bed and make sure i play nicely tomorrow!

sorry, that's random... am all over the place!

night night

HappySurfWidow · 17/02/2010 09:36

Morning all,

I just wanted to post a quick CONGRATULATIONS for the mum's of all the new arrivals... I'm delighted for you all, & can't quite believe I should be joining you soon!!

Am 3 days after my (UK) due date, so it seems this baby is going to be pretty Frenchie... At least that means he'll be out by this time next week!! What a relief...

In the meantime, my daily projects are: scoffing a pineapple (my mouth burns!), plenty of sex, & having a walk (produces impressive pains "down there" that disappear as soon as I get home! Bah!!!)...

But my acute impatience has mellowed dramatically as I have got into watching the Winter Olympics! So baby can take his time...

Hi to all.

skibelle · 17/02/2010 10:54

Flyingcloud- Many Happy Belated Returns! Is it a good day to have a birthday? Actually, don't answer that if it's not, as I suppose I can't send him back and get another one! Glad it wasn't Friday 13th or Valentine's Day, so 12th sounds good to me...

Stoofadoof- Sounds like your Mum is having a bit of a moment and I don't blame you for ranting! She is upset because you told her you don't like her biscuits?! Tell her she should be glad she doesn't have me for a DD or she'd get the push with her 'too posh to push' comment. I'm prob a bit sensitive on that front too, as this was my first and I had a CS that I really didn't expect. But I also didn't expect it to be such a fab experience and seeing the other Mummies in hospital who had the lovely natural water birth that I wanted walking around like pirates afterwards made me just a little bit smug. Hope things get going soon for you, but if they don't then all will be fine.

HappySurfWidow · 17/02/2010 11:30

Hi again,

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me the french translation for "membrane sweep"??... I've got a checkup tomorrow and want to request one.

Merci beaucoup!!

catinaboot · 17/02/2010 12:11

Thank you all for your thoughts re my grampy. Birth and death, aint life bittersweet.

Although that's very depressing of me as this is all about the celebration of new life! I'm still waiting for my new little life to make an appearance. Now 40+3. Keep thinking it's happening... but no.

Mum's put in a request that he comes on Tuesday. What is it with mothers and unthinking remarks... when i did my ankle my mum told me that i was going to get really fat sitting on my arse all day! As if that was the major problem for a 38 wk pregnant woman!

fiziwizzle · 17/02/2010 12:24

Congratulations bethylou on the birth of Thomas and skibelle on the birth of William. A couple of bonny bouncing boys! Good luck to you both with feeding.

What weight was William, skibelle? I'm going to have a stab at updating the list (gulp)...

tinkerbug · 17/02/2010 12:39

Congratulations to the new arrivals!

Have managed to convince myself that I'm going to go overdue - anybody know whether there is anything genetic in being overdue? - my Mum had 4 babies and was late with all of hers!

Am also hoping that baby has turned around - he is head down but is facing the wrong way Am doing my best to turn him - midwife recommended walking up and down the stairs sideways, sitting on the birth ball / a dining chair when watching tv rather than slouching on sofa (which is my preferred position!) and getting down on all fours regularly. Tried the last one once but got distracted by seeing how much dust was on the skirting boards!!!
Any other tips gratefully appreciated!

fiziwizzle · 17/02/2010 12:51

Apologies if I've missed anyone off or got it wrong. As my sister reminded me this morning, I don't have a brain at the moment...

fiziwizzle · 17/02/2010 13:01

Hi to tinkerbug! I don't know if there is anything in the genetics - I suppose there must be - my mum was at least 10 days late with all four of hers, and here I am, 40+9 and still very much pregnant. Maybe you should prepare yourself for a long wait....?

Re turning your baby, try the spinning babies website (sorry can't be bothered to work out how to insert a link but google spinning babies!).

stoofadoof, mums say the most thoughtless things sometimes. Well done you for refraining from telling her to sod off. Hope that you have a better day today... whenever your day is... can't work out time differences with no brain.

Chin up mawbroon, you are doing brilliantly and you will soon be just as mobile in the new boot. You've coped so well - and you will continue to cope - but do give yourself a break too. If the sofa calls, get thee to it with the biscuit tin... Everything will be FINE .

HappySurfWidow my GCSE French won't stretch (ha! no pun intended) to membrane sweep I'm afraid but there are Frenchies who should be able to help - or try the Feb 2010 postnatal thread?

Right I'm off for a long(ish) hilly walk in the probably vain hope to get things moving.

Initio · 17/02/2010 13:09

Hello everyone,

Just to update you, I had Joseph on Saturday 13th Feb at 13:09. He was 8lbs 9oz. I was 40+5 weeks.

Had a bit of a epic journey. I went into labour on the Wednesday and had 19 hours of very regular contractions, then a bit of respite on Thursday and then it kicked off Friday night. I had an Ocado delivery booked for Friday afternoon, so I think I was holding on for that. Could afford to lose a whole shop!

Anyhow I went to the Birth Centre on Friday night where my waters broke in reception. I was examined and found that I was 0cms dialated and they were going to send me home. Couldn't believe it. But, when they looked at my pad, there was meconium in the waters so we stayed. I stuck to gas and air for most of the night and got to 7cms at about 4:30 and then begged for an epidural. Got one, chilled out for a few hours and then decided to get on with pushing.

The pushing was futile, and after two hours I was taken to theatre where I had the epistything and forceps were used. I lost a lot of blood and had to have a transfusion of two units and stay in a high dependancy ward for a bit. My mum and partner were there and were a bit traumatised by it all, but I was, truth be told, off my face from all the medicine, the reality of the situation didn't hit me. They're a bit more spun out about the whole thing.

The care I received throughout was brilliant and highly recommend St. Thomas', London to anyone considering it. Lovely people, who go out of their way to help you.

So about 64 hours in total, but well worth it and I'm home now with a cute little boy and a manic jack russell who doesn't know what to make of it all.

Oh and I came across my birth plan as I was packing up and just had to laugh. None of it transpired with the exception of baby to be given vit K as an injection.

Best of luck to all of you and your imminent births, I hope they are safe and complication free. x

InmaculadaConcepcion · 17/02/2010 14:13

Congrats to bethylou, skibelle and Initio - three boys! Grand news.

Sorry yours was a bit traumatic, Initio, glad everything's okay now.

Good luck everyone - see you over on the post natal thread

NB good for you for keeping your cool stoofadoof...

catinaboot · 17/02/2010 14:32

Can I go on the list fizi. I'm due on 14th Feb and he's my first!

I mean, I was due.

sunnybump · 17/02/2010 14:35

What a gorgeous clutch of new babies! Congratulations to you all. Great to hear so many positive experiences too, the NHS does get bad press sometimes but the majority of the staff are absolute stars

Mawbroon you will survive, you have help available from family and, fingers crossed, a little more time for bone healing. Try to remember how far you've come from being totally immobile, you're doing so well. Be kind to yourself.

Oh Stoofadof I really feel for you. It can all get a bit fractious with family eh. Mmmm you mentioned biscuits, this BFing is making me ravenous!

Good luck everyone with the pineapple/curry/stairs/sex/etc!

AbsB · 17/02/2010 14:37

Oh Congrats to all the new arrivals!
Initio it sounds like you have had quite a time of it! I also have a Jack Russell and a large dog, and don't know how they're going to cope with the new baby (when it finally shows up!)... They know something is going on because there are so many deliveries and the pram in the middle of the sitting room is a dead give away!

There are going to be very few of us left on this thread soon! I'm very jealous of you lot on the post-natal thread, might have to do some spying...

Any news on totally?

Anyone watch the C4 programme yesterday? There were some parts that were really comical and I thought the head midwife was brilliant!

midnightsun · 17/02/2010 15:17

I'm still here waiting. Due date has been and gone, only just (it's 13th Feb on the list but the hospital and my Dr are working from 16th Feb which was my adjusted date after 19 week scan). I went into labour with my first DS 3 days before his due date and I totally expected this one to be as early if not even earlier so am a bit impatient now. First important lesson of raising second children duly learned i.e. do not expect them to be the same as their older sibling...

I mostly sailed through the pregnancy and it's just this last week or so I've been getting wiped out by it all. Tired, with swollen hands, ankles and now tongue (?!), numb and tingly right hand (carpal tunnel syndrome I guess), slightly raised BP and protein in wee at due date check-up yesterday but not enough to worry about. And I'm starting to get anxious about the birth. Am meant to be having a VBAC but now I'm overdue I am scared and don't want (a) any kind of induction or artificial interference to kick off a powerful labour as I have bad memories of 1000 painful and relentless natural contractions last time (b) a c-section or (c) to go too many days over the due date, either. Hard to please, moi??

So I am hoping very hard that the baby comes of its own efficient accord very soon, not least so I can stop whinging.

Congrats to all who have delivered their little ones and good labour vibes to the rest who have yet to do so. It's all so worth it in the end.

skibelle · 17/02/2010 20:26

Fizi- Thanks. William was 6lb7.
