fiziwizzle · 05/02/2010 19:34

Congratulations Insanity! Well done, can't wait to hear about your twins .

I can't believe how quickly these births are coming, every time I log on there is at least one more!

Sorry to hear that sunnybump, hope that you are resting up well.

I feel loads better after a nap and a 1-2-1 (well 1-2-2) yoga session with DP and I. Now vegging out in my yoga trousers, eating all the wasabi peas (much to DP's distress) and waiting for pizza delivery . Nothing like healthy eating eh?

chinook · 05/02/2010 20:27

Congratulations to all the recent arrivals. (GF you have excellent taste in boy's names).

mawbroon so glad you are getting to have a go at a natural birth. I can't believe your young man is still changing positions. Is it really uncomfortable when he flips over?

Well it is my due date today and I am sat here looking at a huge bump so I guess I am going to be late. Dd was 5 days late so I shouldn't be surprised but was hoping not to be this time. Especially as every extra day spent in there means his already jumbo sized head is getting even bigger! I am curious about this nipple twiddling you are all talking about. I take it that it is a fairly self explanatory procedure, but how long are you supposed to keep it up for?

Wonder who will be next??

Nikki87 · 05/02/2010 20:46

congrats Insanity, love the names!
can't believe how quickly every1 is popping now, so jealous, will one of the newborns have a sly word with mine and tell him to come out?
hope everyone has a great weekend!

bethylou · 05/02/2010 20:57

So exciting to hear about the new arrivals - congratulations and keep it up ladies!!

IC - sorry to hear about the breast feeding difficulties. I always assumed it would be a natural thing that happened and was not fully prepared for learning it as a skill, which I now believe it is. One of my friends needed to use a nipple shield and, being a GP, she was keen to stop as she knew the pros and cons. However, she had to use it all the way through in the end. My theory was, it was better for her to use it successfully and feed her baby as she had hoped, rather than to have to give up.

I may well use them this time as (TMI alert) have discovered that I have very flat stretchy nipples that don't make latching easy. If you are reading this as a first time expectant mum who hasn't ever really taken much notice of other people's nipples - you will be amazed at how different they can be!! I know that it is possible for babies to latch on to flat and inverted nipples, but I concluded last time that my 'weak sucker' (as described by MW) of a DS combined with 'unhelpful' nipples (my own description!!) was not a good combo!! Having said that, I still managed it for 4 months, but it was not easy.

Consultant appointment was with registrar who has said I am fine for attempting natural delivery, but went about examining me in a most undignified manner and made comments about my nether regions (in front of his student doctor 'Tom' who I was not given the option of removing from the room ) which left me running for the nearest supply of consolation chocolate when I got out!! Hopefully, that's the last appointment now though and hope not to meet that particular individual again. Let's hope he never becomes a consultant!

Will be back on tomorrow to check for the latest updates. Good luck!

p.s. have now tried vigorous walk (pushing DS1 on bike up hill - ouch - stupid idea!), nipple twiddling and not-so-vigorous sex so hope I might join the 'delivered' list soon!!

raindroprhyme · 05/02/2010 21:10

hi everyone,

wow babies everywhere

Seth Cooper born 11.59pm, 01/02/10, 8lb 15oz.

good luck to everyone.

will keep checking in.

BabyGiraffes · 05/02/2010 22:14

Hi, congratulations to all new arrivals -they really are coming fast now (no pun intended) and very best of luck to everyone still waiting for their little ones! Here's the promised update... My dd decided that she didn't like all the talk about induction and decided to appear a week early at 39 weeks, and she did it fast (apparently not unusual for second babies). Waters went half 7 in the evening, got to hospital by half 8 with very strong contractions and already 8cm dilated, and dd was born half 10... Had a quite fantastic experienced midwife (mental note to send a card and chocolates). Baby is doing really well and has a sucking reflex like a vampire, making me hit the ceiling when she latches on . Oh, and name is still being debated, terrible I know, but our first choice does not seem to suit her

woowa · 05/02/2010 22:48

Goodness me! Congratulations raindroprhyme and thanks for dropping in to tell us! I'm amazed at how quickly you're all getting onto the internet!

Hello Girls

Congratulations all new mummies

Just checking in. Still here, still pregnant, 38 weeks tomorrow. Not ready yet (when will I ever be??)so laying off the pineapple etc for now.

Having a nice day out at the seaside today with DH and dog - may be our last chance for a while...

Keep waking up about 4am for a couple of hours at the moment then going back to bed - maybe practise for when LO is here??

Hope everyone with babies are doing ok, I STILL can't believe it is going to happen to me though, when does it sink in??

Right, back to bed for my second sleep xx

threeplusone · 06/02/2010 08:39

WOW.. huge congratulations to every one.. we are defo on a roll now.
DH and I went to a 40th Bday party last night and I had a good boogie on the dance floor trying to help Little man along. Had Mw yesterday and he has moved downsome more he is now 3/5engaged.. so going in the right direction. Boy do I know his heads is there I feel like I have abowling ball between my legs.

I have said when I go to the hospital on Friday I am going to ask them for a sweep.. will be 39+5. But i am also going to ask them to admit me as DS2 was so fast and not engaged I am abit panicky about making it to the hospital on time.. 3cm to delivery was 15mins last time!!!! and the hospital is a minimum of 20mins and this wqerather can take 50mins as we still have lots of ice and more snow is expected this weekend for atleast the next week.

MW told me yesterday to do lots of nipple tweaking, lots of sex and loads of clitoral stimulation. TBH nipple tweaking does help bring on strong BH after only a couple of minutes.. so hoping this little man will make an appearance before friday.

Is there a Feb post natal thread yet.....

stoofadoof · 06/02/2010 08:43

yey - congratulations to to all the latest deliveries - don't want to miss anyone out, so just a general 'well done!' I dunno, i don't log on for a day, and there's a whole stack... nothing doing here though!! ho hum... Blimey those twins were a good weight Insanity!

ok - good bf and recovery vibes to the new mums, and lets get a shufty on vibes to the overdue and desperately wanting them now ones, and oh hang on a minute vibes for the ones that don't want them yet! Think that covers it all!

night night!

MarieKL · 06/02/2010 08:50

Hi All

Sorry I haven't logged on for ages, but congratulations to those who babies have arrived. Its so exciting! And all the best to those who are still waiting.

I've been getting lots of pre-labour signs in the last few days but so far no contractions!

Looking forward to hearing who is next

Warmest wishes to all

FluffyCoo · 06/02/2010 08:57

Morning all,

Congratulations Raindrop hope you and Seth are both well.

Been up since the crack of dawn this morning - having major wobbles about impending mummyhood! I think it's because I've been keeping my head down, getting my work done and now that i've finally packed up, reality has come crashing in... i just haven't been allowing myself any time to really think until now! DH has been supplying lots of tea, cuddles and reassurance though so hopefully it'll be a passing dip on the emotional rollercoaster! Hmm, i think breakfast may also help...

Have a great day everyone, hope to see some more lovely announcements later!

Clappedout · 06/02/2010 11:39

Hi,

Congratulations to the new Mums, so exciting, good luck with the nipple tweaking and 'vigorous sex' to those nearly and over due! I am impressed.

immaculalda sorry to hear you are struggling with BF but brilliant news about the weight gain. I used a nipple shield with my DD (1st baby) for 7 months and she fed really well with it after not latching on without it. I had tried for two weeks but it caused no end of frustration and tears for both of us and I did not want to go through it again. My DS is very small so I have tried it again and he has managed to latch on and feed, I am expressing as well as luckily he also takes a bottle but it is hard getting it right. I know people say shields should be a short term measure but if your baby is getting enough milk and you are happy then I don't see the problem, other than the hassle of remembering to take it everywhere and the funny looks you get. I buy the Avent ones. They also mean your nipples are less sore! Good luck and hang in there, still early days.

galadriel77 · 06/02/2010 11:41

Congratulations for all the recent births. I am VERY jealous and ask that you send some labour vibes this way please.

Only 4 days overdue and even though it normally doesn't bother me and I'm quite a calm person it is starting to get on my nerves!

It is possibly every one else commenting on it and my mum hanging around that is doing it but I feel like I am about to burst into tears all the time.

I just can't sleep - my hips are killing me. And I am getting a lot of pain bottom left of my stomach. Again I am wondering if it's a bladder infection but I'm not really getting any pain when I wee or afterwards. Just sometimes it is really sore. At about 5am this morning I couldn't lie on my left side as it hurt so much and I had to take some paracetomol.

I've also got a bit of a headache but both DD's have got colds so I think it's a bit of sinus pain. I suddenly started worrying about pre-eclamsia as I'm a little bit puffy on my hands and feet - normal I know as my blood pressure was fine on Tuesday but you do start to worry.

So generally I feel as if I am falling apart; can't sleep, headache, indigestion is terrible, can't get comfortable at all. Tried sex, nipple twiddling, walks and bouncing on ball and nothing is happening.

threeplusone · 06/02/2010 11:48

Sunny.. I hope you are ok hun

Sending everyone including myself lots of positive labour vibes.....xxxxx

hannahsaunt · 06/02/2010 12:10

Lovely to hear of the babies coming - lots of lovely names.

Having held it together for the last 8.5 months with dh away a lot and working lots of weekends etc, finally fell apart yesterday and said that I couldn't do the next 5 days with him away (only started mat leave on Monday - stupidly worked to 38 wks which was far too long) - BP is low, have lost weight etc - he phoned PILs at 2130h and they are en route from NI arriving tonight - they are fantastic. I can do one more day ...

InmaculadaConcepcion · 06/02/2010 14:27

Congrats raindrop on the arrival of Seth and to Insanity on the arrival of Ethan and Erin - what a cool clutch of names! Good luck to all.

A BIG thanks to everyone sending the positive BF vibes and especially to bethylou and ClappedOut sharing your experiences - very heartening to know I'm not alone in this.

And a MASSIVE thank you to mawbroon - that web page is already proving invaluable. I was mainly on the right lines anyway, but it's given me loads more suggestions of things to try, so huge appreciation for that.

The vibes and the webpage are already working - I was just reading the kellymom stuff, switched DD to the other breast and lo and behold, she latched and started going for it, just like that! Awesome. Not kidding myself we're all sorted now, but by god, it's heartening!

Much love to all the overdue and impatient and feeling crap ladies in the last stages of pg - I'm cheering you all on to the finish!!

Yes, a post natal thread - it would be good to keep together and share our BF/no sleep/emotional wreck/MIL gripes etc etc as we get into the serious mothering part of the occasion!

Speaking of MIL, mine is hear now, as is SIL and they are being utterly brilliant. Just off to luxuriate in the shower while MIL cuddles LO between feeds. Bliss!!

flyingcloud · 06/02/2010 14:42

Wow this thread moves so quickly. Huge congrats to all who are having their babies. It really is so lovely to hear your news.

I am feeling a bit emotional today - all my French friends keep saying that I am being very impatient, as by French standards I am not yet due, even though I am now 40+1

I know I'll never get this time back and to make the most of it, but I swing between patient waiting and a feeling that it will never happen. It's this feeling of limbo - getting tired if I overdo it and yet bored of waiting.

Do any other first timers feel a bit lonely? DH is working full time at the mo, including weekends and I don't have that many friends round here, I can't travel too far to go and see anyone. All I can do is stay at home and do housework.

Sorry for that

ktpie · 06/02/2010 15:04

Congratulations to everyone who has had their babies!
Lots of sympathy to those still waiting, I went 10 days over last time and it was awful just waiting, and so annoying getting loads of phone calls and texts to find out what is happening.

Hannahsaunt - glad you are getting some support, sounds like you need to take it easy.

It's weird being back in the world of newborns, getting on OK so far, sore nipples and the stitches hurt and I generally feel achey all over still but we are both fine.

I had a revelation the other day, I'd been struggling to get the Lansinoh out of the tube as it was too cold but if I keep it in my pocket (being careful not to squash it as having it burst would be a nightmare!) then it comes out easily, and I have it handy.

Also dug out this book that I had from last time, I found it really useful and it's good this time round as I can't remember the time scale of things happening.

I am sort of keeping up with you all by checking the thread from my phone while I breastfeed but I can't post from there so sorry if I'm a bit quiet!

Nikki87 · 06/02/2010 15:51

flyingcloud, i know exactly what you mean with feeling lonely, my DP works from 8 til sometimes gone 7 through the week, and then likes to lie in at the weekends, so feel like i dont see him that much, just think though, we will have our little bundles to keep us occupied soon

sunnybump · 06/02/2010 18:29

I'm fine thanks I didn't actually feel unwell enough to be in hospital at all, just high BP, protein in my urine, and a wee bit puffy so was on pre-eclampsia monitoring. Now it's down a bit I'm just going to rest, sleep, and boss DH around all weekend. I slept for 13 hours last night, broken by toilet breaks but it was such a deep sleep.

Having lots of BH tightenings now so hoping it's not long now. Nipple twiddling definitely sets them off too. I'm going to leave the curry & pineapple til I hit 39 weeks!

Hannasaunt I'm glad your rescue is arriving soon, in the nick of time it seems.

Galadriel if you get any other symptoms get your BP checked again by the community MW to put your mind at ease. Meanwhile get glugging the Gaviscon and Paracetamol and maybe try steaming your sinus' with hot water, bowl and towel combo. Karvol and Olbas oil are good to inhale too. What I would have given to take sudafed at times in this pregnancy!

Flying and Nikki I know what you mean, everyone is busy getting on with their lives and we're in this weird limbo state, just waiting apprehensively for a sign. I got another load of trashy novels out the library today in an attempt to distract myself. Hour long baths are good too I discovered - plus soon these will be the ultimate time luxury.
